"King Diamond (real name: Kim Bendix Petersen) has a 4 octave vocal range, and The Range Place has mentioned his range from F1 to Eb6." I've been listening to him for over 30 years
yeah i been into king diamond since around '84 Melissa was my first owned merciful fate album...anybody remember 'Metallic Overdrive' rochester radio program back then that played progressive metal
He has his masters degree in vocals. He went to a world renowned academy in Copenhagen. Love him or hate him..hes literally one of the best vocalists in the world.
Often you see metal bands rushing through songs or playing at a different tempo than the studio track... King is always bang on, delivering exactly what the audience is expecting to hear. The guy is a technician.
I'm a huge King Diamond fan. With his octave range, don't know if he can still do it, but he used to be able to hit all 88 notes on a piano with his voice. Met him in The House of Blues in Chicago years ago. A really swell laid back guy. I was in college and dipped out of my favorite class to get to his show. A true legend in the music industry.
I don't know for sure, but I've been listening since the early 80's, and I don't think his range ever went up to C8. Which is the highest note on a piano. His confirmed range is A1-Eb6. Now he may have lost a little off the top end, but not almost 2 octaves.
Saw him at Bloodstock this year with Mercyful Fate and at 66 years old, King can still hit thouse High notes like they are nothing! Absolutely incredible 🤘🏻
@@randywissler9923 Considering that his voice became better, more versatile and controlled after the surgeries and dropping sigarettes etc. I wouldn't be surprised if he has gained notes on both ends.
Thanks for recognizing the band. These are real musicians. They know how to play and they can shred. Andy LaRocque (the guy on the right side when watching ) has been with King Diamond for many years. A super-talented metal guitarist.
You know, all the praises of King Diamond (both vocalist and band) are well deserved. King has been in metal scene since 80s and fronted two bands; Mercyful Fate and King Diamond. He went through triple-bypass surgery in 2010, came back and sounds amazing live. The coolest thing about KD is, all but two of their albums are from start to finish full horror stories (some of them even continue on another album) and the best thing you can do is a full album reaction. I’d recommend starting with Abigail. Oh and by the way, those bones are real. His younger brother’s schoolmate’s dad was a surgeon and he got them that way. He had also a skull named Melissa (named after a song and album by Mercyful Fate), but that was stolen.
King Diamond/Mercyfull Fate are legends in the european metal. Big influence for so many bands, like Metallica or Megadeth! Next One - Mercyfull Fate -Unvited guest!!!!!!!
@@jimmysworld2512 Metallica did a medley of Mercyful Fate covers on their Garage Inc. album. Mercyful Fate is King Diamond's band before he started his solo band.

You really can't go wrong with anything from The King. LEGENDARY!!! Thank you for giving him a chance, lots of people wouldn't give him the time of day. Great reaction to your first exposure to the greatness and brilliance that is King Diamond. Honestly the first time I heard him, it was the album titled "Them".....and I had pretty much the same reaction you did. It's very difficult to pick just one or two songs to react to....due to the fact that almost every single album he has recorded under the King Diamond banner has been a concept album. The entire album tells a story from start to finish...so listening to a single song would be like reading a single chapter in a novel. Some exceptions to that rule would be "Halloween", "Shrine", "The Lake", and "No Presents For Christmas". Not saying you need to react to those, but you can if you want. If you want some of his best songs from the King Diamond banner, the go to would be pretty much anything of the "Abigail" album....especially "The Family Ghost", "Abigail", or "Black Horsemen" Another option would be to check out his earlier band Mercyful Fate. No concept albums, just great individual songs put together on an album. Some of King Diamonds best songwriting comes from this band in my opinion. "The Oath", "Come To The Sabbath", "Evil", "Curse Of The Pharaoh", and "Melissa" come to mind immediately . Welcome to The Coven Jimmy.....there's no escaping now. Cool you found out about King Diamond. He and his former Band Mercyful Fate are (still) an institution in Metal music! Mercyful Fate was founded in the early 80s and influenced a hell of bands in the genre, especially Metallica are still big fans of their music back then. And, yes the microphonholder is made out of real human bones. In the early days King Diamond - when still was perfoming with Mercyful Fate in the 80s - brought a real human skull with him on stage. But sadly the skull was stolen by a fan after a gig and was never found again. He called the skull "Melissa". Melissa is also the title of a Mercyful Fates´ 1st record from 1983. This is one of the most influencial records in Heavy Metal, too, besides their 2nd album "Don´t break the oath". Both albums are really worth to listen to - believe me. When I heared Mercyful Fate the first time I was blown away by his voice and the mytic in the music just like you. Eversince I am a big fan of MF and KD. By the way, when King Diamond got solo, he got some awesome musicians surrounding him. The most famous one is Mikkey Dee. Mikkey wrote one of the inconic drum-fills of all time and became an unreachable challenge to a heck of Metal drummers to copy. LOL. It´s the intro to "Welcome home" from the popular album "Them". After "Them" he left to become the drummer of Motörhead and later on for the Scorpions. Enjoy Heavy Metal, enjoy live and keep on rocking on with your great vdeos. Greetings from Germany!

Between mercyful fate and king diamond there are 20 studio albums. So much to choose from you base you're entire show for the next couple years on the king. Can't wait to see more
Yea king is king of horror rock!! All his albums are horror stories and his different voices represent different characters. Great stuff one of my biggest influences over the years. Yea do this whole show at filmore it was great
King Diamond is a frikken legend, and oh my am I glad you discovered him. The history of King Diamond and his band (Mercyful Fate and then King Diamond) is going way back to the late '70s and early '80s, and his bands are influential to some heavy metal bands back then. King himself is an awesome storyteller, his albums (mostly with King Diamond band) are concept, story albums where all the songs in them are creating one big story, and all of them are horror-related. Please continue reacting to this band (and Mercyful Fate too), maybe the song "Welcome Home" or an entire album of "Abigail"? That would be soo cool. Thanks for this reaction. Cheers!! 😊
Very typical reaction to King Diamond first time, yeah, Holy Shit, and WOW are common words He is the King. Simple,.....Abagail, second 1/2 of this concert .and Merciful Fate, Been here since the 80s. Fuck Yeah Happy listening
Oh yes ... He can most certainly do that too! Isn't he perfect?! Welcome aboard the Unicorn (15 men and a bottle of rum reference)....... and ....Hail the King..... forever! Decades of love for this and finally.... FINALLY..... I will see him on Saturday at the Damn Masonic Lodge in Detroit .... After that. I am complete 😉😁🤘🏻
king diamond is an amazing singer and performer. if u like this, try a song from his older band, mercyful fate, the song the oath, from the album don't break the oath. the beginnings of progressive metal...
Caught them at at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago and it was the best Show I've ever seen! You are 100% correct when you say King is a Legend! The Musicianship is top notch! Love them!
Hi! New here. I’ve been listening to King Diamond since the 80’s. I’ve seen him live about five times. Just watching you watch that video gave me goosebumps. I see I’m a little late to the game here but funny story....I was cleaning my bathroom today and I said to myself I wonder if any contestant for a voice show has attempted to sing King Diamond. Voila here I am.
It took me many years to finally love King Diamond's vocals. The first time I ever listened to King Diamond was the video for Welcome Home back in 1988 on MTV'S Headbanger's Ball. I was barely 10 years old back then. I loved the music, but I could not stand the singing back then at all. It was a few years ago that I finally started to love his singing big time. I love both of his bands King Diamond and especially Mercyful Fate alot. It is insanely amazing how incredible King Diamond's vocals still are all these years later. Most lead singers that have been around many years are past their peak, but King Diamond is still at his peak. You definitely have to check out some Mercyful Fate. In my opinion they have better guitar riffs than his King Diamond band even though his guitar players in his solo band are way more technical players. I would recommend songs like Into The Coven,Curse Of The Pharaohs, Evil, A Dangerous Meeting, Gypsy, The Bell Witch, and Is That You Melissa from Mercyful Fate.
I learned about mercyful fate from tape trading, back in 1985. When I heard king diamond, mercyful fate, I became an instant fan, and never looked back.
Man... wish I had tape trading back then... not even 💯 what it is but it sounds awesome... i had 2 tapes in my collection... guns n roses lies and metallica ride the lightning... now I’ve got the entire world at the press of a button
@@jimmysworld2512 I was in the 12th grade when this was going on. All heavy metal back then was total underground, no radio play whatsoever. So bands like mercyful fate, king diamond, slayer, I could go on, with bands, to have survived to this day says a lot., My name is James by the, nice chatting.
Yeah James... had no clue real metal was an underground scene back in the 80’s... i was only in elementary/ middle school so it was probably beyond my ability to really get into it
Check out Abigail. Personally my favorite King Diamond album and song. I kind of had the same reaction when I first heard Abigail back in the 80s. I had never heard anyone sing like that in my life. And you're right, he is a legend.
I remember buying this CD on Christmas Eve 1986 while visiting my mom. She didn't allow drinking in the house so I took my 6 pack and some bud and went and hung out in the cemetery across the street. For most of the night I listened to Conspiracy on my walkman as the fog rolled in amongst the graves!!!
@@jimmysworld2512 yep...always read the lyrics and in order with the right album...Abigail and Them are my personal best....King is a good story writer and his voice is ghostly and eerie :) \m/
Listen too him in the early days of Merciful Fate and his one album Abigail if you want to hear some awesome vocals. Been listening too him for years and it never gets old.
King Diamond has been around since 1983. First with the band Mercyful Fate, and then with his solo band, King Diamond, starting in 1986. He left Mercyful Fate then, but then came back to them in 1993 and he did double duty for a while. Putting out several albums with both bands thru the 90s. Mercyful Fate then broke up in 1999 after their album 9. But there was recent rumor that Mercyful Fate might get back together for another album. But yes, the musicians in King Diamond are fantastic. The guitar player, Andy LaRoche, is not only a great guitar player, but a great writer and Mixer too. In King Diamond's catalogue re-release several years back now, Andy did all the remastering and mixing for them and they all sound fantastic. Even the older 80s stuff.
All hail the king!!!.big fan of the diamond meister, hey Jimmy can you react to Alien weaponry, 3 teenage thrash metallers from my home country New Zealand, they sing in my native language (Maori) & its hardcore as bro, they dont wear masks but in there video 'kai tangata' you'll see an ancient battle post colonization which you might enjoy..all true story too..just found your channel & keep up the good work🤘🤘🤘
Update: later in the video, you can get a couple glimpses of King's wife singing backup vocals/harmonies just behind guitarist Andy Laroque-Stage Left.
It's about time people to realize Ghost wouldn't exist or sound how they sound, especially in the first albums or Without King Diamond (the man has been around almost 40 years) as a major influence. Musically speaking and then all the rest secondarily (won't go to the makeup thing here, it's all just endless to explain if you're just at the surface and not in the depth of things ) but a huge huge role!
"King Diamond" songs "Pictures In Red" and "Welcome Hpme" the official videos. Mercyful Fate (King Diamnd) song "Witches Dance" also official video. I can also recommend every song from the concert you looked at. Personal favorites beside "Slepless Nights" is ""Halloween", "Arrival", "Abigail", "Black Horsemen". It's a matter of taste, Diamond have is super creative and have loads of good material as him self and with "Mercyful Fate" over the years..
I see that you also liked "Iced Earth", i recommend the song "Dystopia" official video, crazy guitars. Then some personal favorites who deserves more knowing about them "Scanner" - "Warp7", "Artch" - " Shoot To Kill" the albums cause there is no newer consert or video with good sound. "Loudness" - Crazy Nights" the guitarist is at Malmsteens level in my opinion and i'm Swedish" like Yngwie. "Stryper" - "The Way". Female singers "Zed Yago" - "Black Bone Song" official video. Warlock (Doro) - "then east meets west" f.ex. 1993 video. I know you like Nightwish and Symphonic Metal to, "Luca Turilli's Dreamquest" - "Ghotic Vision" album version, "Therion" - "To Mega Therion" the official video isn't the best but the song is :) Many sugestions and suggestions for peoples who have never heard them and if you want you have some groups that many peoples don't know about today to ract to.
nice choice its my favorite band since i was 13 years old :) Actually my first koncert in my life. in Copenhagen (KB hallen.) the Them Tour. many many years ago.
A legend! Seen both Merciful fate and King Diamond live. Back then the demon thing was an issue for a lot of people and the show did take a lot af attention and discussion. Partly that was a pity as this band was really a very good band and that was often blinded by discussions about the vocals and the texts.
My first album i listen from him was Them..a concept album and as far as im concerned the best from him. The 1st song i heard from him was Halloween...That was in 87. Legend is right!!

Cheers!! 😊
Congrats for finding the king. Work your way through his catalogue. It's amazing
Been a fan of the King since '85!!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Very typical reaction to King Diamond first time, yeah, Holy Shit, and WOW are common words He is the King. Simple,.....Abagail, second 1/2 of this concert .and Merciful Fate, Been here since the 80s. Fuck Yeah
Happy listening
King DIamond - the most impressive falsetto vocals in metal!! Also check out his original band Merciful Fate!!!
Seriously... Its insane what the human body is capable of
Oh yes ... He can most certainly do that too! Isn't he perfect?! Welcome aboard the Unicorn (15 men and a bottle of rum reference)....... and ....Hail the King..... forever!
Decades of love for this and finally.... FINALLY..... I will see him on Saturday at the Damn Masonic Lodge in Detroit
Thanks John🤘😎
yooooooooo new favorite channel 🕺🏻😂🤝🔥🔥 welcome to the kingdom
Thanks quinton😎🤘
1. The Family Ghost
2. The Black Horsemen
3. Magic
4. Behind These Walls
5. Never Ending Hill (Grammy Nominee)
King is awesome. Has been around since the early 80s. First band was Mercyful Fate. Check out Snowy Shaw “Krampus”. Snowy used to be Kings drummer.
Play Welcome Home. Only King Diamond can pull off those lyrics. You will not be disapointed. It's the opening song in that same show at the Filmore.
Was it 89? Conspiracy didn't come out til 1989
Brought a tear to my eye seeing your first king diamond listening, remind me of my first time in 1987!
COME TO THE SABBATH !
his old mercyful fate shit rocks too...welcome to the spooky world of the King!!
Thanks Charlie... I heard (through comments of fans) that every album is an entire horror story and some continue to subsequent albums... BRILLIANT!
@@jimmysworld2512 yep...always read the lyrics and in order with the right album...Abigail and Them are my personal best....King is a good story writer and his voice is ghostly and eerie :) \m/
That backup singer is his wife, btw. Total badasses.
King Diamond: A Mansion in the Darkness. Live at The Fillmore. (4;40)
Mercyful fate is the kings first band
Listen too him in the early days of Merciful Fate and his one album Abigail if you want to hear some awesome vocals. Been listening too him for years and it never gets old.
❤️King Diamond 💎
So you didn’t know the King?! Never is too late Jimmy! Cheers 🍻
Agreed!! Loving this glorious trip through the worm hole of metal and rock
Their 1st album was released in 1982 but they formed as a band way b4 that though.
Excellent reaction! You have to check out A Mansion in Darkness by King Diamond off the Abigail album. The vocals are absolutely epic!!!
Welcome to The King’s World!
All hail the king!!!.big fan of the diamond meister, hey Jimmy can you react to Alien weaponry, 3 teenage thrash metallers from my home country New Zealand, they sing in my native language (Maori) & its hardcore as bro, they dont wear masks but in there video 'kai tangata' you'll see an ancient battle post colonization which you might enjoy..all true story too..just found your channel & keep up the good work🤘🤘🤘
Thanks Nick! Sounds pretty cool...got tons of requests so I’ll see...
Nick ngaronoa Hail the king!!
Listen to the Bell is my all-time favorite King Diamond song. You got to check out Merciful Fate
The man that got me into metal. Long live the king.
2 words.........Mercyful Fate! 🤘🤘
King Diamond is the singer for Mercyful Fate. Check them out especially "Don't break the oath" album.
Thanks crimson... witches dance is coming up Tuesday... the King is just incredible 😎🎸🙃
@@jimmysworld2512 Yes, he's been around for a long time and is well respected. He's quite the showman.

That's why he is the King!!! Love to see how you react. lol
Update: later in the video, you can get a couple glimpses of King's wife singing backup vocals/harmonies just behind guitarist Andy Laroque-Stage Left.
He used to sing to a real human skull named Lucy.
I thought the name of the real human skull was Melissa.
1993 video. I know you like Nightwish and Symphonic Metal to, "Luca Turilli's Dreamquest" - "Ghotic Vision" album version, "Therion" - "To Mega Therion" the official video isn't the best but the song is :)
Many sugestions and suggestions for peoples who have never heard them and if you want you have some groups that many peoples don't know about today to ract to.
He is a legend👌🏻🇩🇰
Yes! Grade A talent
My favorite singerrrrr everrrrr long live Mr. Bendix.......I can't sleep at night......the institute is coming.
nice choice its my favorite band since i was 13 years old :) Actually my first koncert in my life. in Copenhagen (KB hallen.) the Them Tour. many many years ago.
A legend! Seen both Merciful fate and King Diamond live. Back then the demon thing was an issue for a lot of people and the show did take a lot af attention and discussion. Partly that was a pity as this band was really a very good band and that was often blinded by discussions about the vocals and the texts.
Nice to know there's a new big King fan out there, I'm a fan since 83, check Mercyful Fate songs as well
king diamond is also mercyful fate im sure they look and sound the same i love em
It is actually real human bones.
Friggin SICK!! Love it!!
Welcome to The King Young Jimmy!
Been a fan since 84. You need to listen to Abigail, and Them. Also his first band Merciful Fate.
Thanks crackedbrain!
My first album i listen from him was Them..a concept album and as far as im concerned the best from him. The 1st song i heard from him was Halloween...That was in 87. Legend is right!!
Cradle of Filth from the UK🇬🇧 ❤️them, seen them live, amazing
Yess!! Their makeup and costumes look SICK!! Can’t wait !!
I think I could write 1000 words on The King, but it suffices just to say he's fkn awesome.
King Diamond/Mercyful Fate are my favorite. Thanks for doing his work.
King Diamond is not 59, he's 65. He was 59 when that video was made.
Fun King Diamond song is No Presents for Christmas. Evil, from Merciful Fate is also a good one.
I've been listening to him since 1987 ... King Diamond is a musical genius.
The king rules the metal world, greetings from brasil
