One of my absolute favourites. A few things to keep in mind here. He was 58 years old for this concert and has been doing this since the late 70s. In 2010 he had a triple-bypass, essentially from smoking too much to the point that his arteries got blocked up. And he still has that voice. Oh and finally, his microphone handle is made of human bones, a femur and a tibia. :)

@@billcummins5801 It is actually fairly common in Denmark. Since Bendix is a uncommon surname, Kim Petersen has probably taken her surname as a middle name during their marriage. However she does not have to do the same.

Thank you for having the balls to react to King Diamond! His voice is very divisive. Many people are turned off by the falsetto. As for me, I love it! He's entirely self-taught btw

@@transsylvanian9100 Yes. I've recently discovered how good The Eye is. Say what you will about the supernatural horror of King's other albums, The Eye is more horrifying because it is so obviously believable that these things actually happened and are likely still happening. King Diamond, a.k.a. Kim Bendix Petersen. He's been part of the metal scene since the mid 70s. One of the pioneers of the dark, theatrical side of metal.
According to metal legend, King Diamond was self-taught - he was originally a guitarist in his earliest days, but when an opening came up for vocalist he just filled in and figured it out as he went. In his interviews and so on he comes across as a really nice, quiet, soft-spoken, and polite character. His early stuff from before Mercyful Fate (Black Rose, The Brats, Danger Zone, etc.) is worth tracking down, at least for fans and completists - he didn't have anything like this sort of range back before Mercyful Fate, but his voice is still easily recognizable, and there's also the novelty of hearing punk/shock rock versions of some of those early Mercyful Fate songs before they adopted the whole gothic/heavy metal thing.... ua-cam.com/video/Mw5pYOzoajQ/v-deo.html
@@pietrayday9915 I've always loved how composed he was during interviews. he really does seem to be a down to earth, but still proper gentleman. He definitely has class, but doesn't seem snobby about it.
Kind Diamond is a legend, and for good reason. His vocals are one of a kind. You generally either like them or not. I've been a fan since I first heard him in Mercyful Fate way back in the early 80's. A few quick fun facts about the King: He is 62 years old. Yes...... 62 and still sounding incredible (his birthday is June 14. Happy early birthday King!) He had triple bypass surgery 8-9 years ago. He obviously recovered well is and going strong. The female backup singer on the side of the set is actually his wife.
My band had the extreme pleasure to be the supporting act for King Diamond, a few years ago. King and the rest of the band were so gracious and welcoming, to us, a local band. That when the club security guard ask us to leave the backstage area, King Diamond and Andy la Rocque, Kings lead guitarist and song calibrator, told them, that we were all welcomed to remain backstage to enjoy the show. The entire band plus their road crew were so cool to us, taking pictures, inviting us on the tour bus, giving us t-shirts, autographs, drink, food. The reason, so we were told, that King had invited us to stay backstage was because, the rest of the band had seen our entire show and were extremely impressed with our music, that they passed this on to King. He in turned, thank us for warming up the crowd and asked to be his quest backstage to enjoy the show and tour bus after the show.
This man has had a huge influence on how I write and sing. I started using more of my high range after finding it since listening to King Diamond and Metcyful Fate.
Interesting Fact: king had a triple bypass a fews years ago and had to rebuild his lungs & vocal technique. He said after giving up smoking, he feels 30 years younger and sounds like it!
I met King before a show in 1986 on the Fatal Portrait tour, at the Cabaret Metro in Chicago. Just the nicest man around. Very approachable and down to earth. Astonishing vocal abilities live.

King Diamond is one of those bands you show to people to see what their reaction is. I remember my first time, I laughed at how he sang. But that's typical for someone who doesn't really understand what they're being shown. (I was like 16 and just getting into Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, not really ready for this.) Anyway, it didn't take me long to understand why this is amazing. Andy Larocque is a fucking god. Also Mercyful Fate is badass too. \m/
Ditto! Back in those days I couldn't get past his vocals at all! But I finally made myself sit down and listen to "Melissa" and "Don't Break The Oath" and immediately found myself saying "What the hell was I thinking?! This is brilliant!" (Oddly enough, I'd always dug his solo material, go figure.)
@Malcolm Reynolds I think the point was that Andre Matos passed away on Saturday. He wasn't the vocalist on Temple of shadows even though that album is near flawless.
@@Justic3h is a good choice! But as I see a tribute to André Matos, who died shortly, it makes more sense to choose one of his time in Angra! Edu Falaschi is a great singer and of course also deserves his appreciation in his time in the band.
You're right. I think King is even more operistic and theatrical than Freddie. Close minded people always tend to mention sexual orientation when talking about Freddie or Rob Halford and that's an entirely personal matter. King's wife is like 20 years younger than him, who cares?
King Diamond is so brilliant as a singer and Sleepless Night is a really good choice to enter in his world. But King Diamond is also a band with perfect and amazing musicians/friends.

Exactly! He stopped smoking since the heart attack...
His voice is stronger than ever. He turned 63 yesterday. Happy birthday to the King!!🤘🏻🤘🏻
Livia Zita-Bendix, who is King Diamond's wife (and backing vocalist) response to your video on FB is "I adore her, and she finally did a KD reaction video!!!"
The backup singer dude that's King Diamond wife and in 2017 she gave birth to his son Byron
And I think Kim Bendix is Kings Diamond's real name also has the last name of Peterson but that kind of puzzles me why she has his middle name as her second last name if his last name is Peterson why isn't her last name Peterson behind her first last name that doesn't make any sense
@@billcummins5801 It is actually fairly common in Denmark. Since Bendix is a uncommon surname, Kim Petersen has probably taken her surname as a middle name during their marriage. However she does not have to do the same.
Check out his previous band, Mercyful Fate. So underrated.
Melissa album art is wicked asF, imo 😉
pretty sure evry1 know about 'Fate bro i got DBTO & Melissa play both ALL the time
Dude I saw them on tour back in 1999!
@@Metalwheel Don't break the oath album , too !
Not underrated in his home country, Denmark - he's been popular for more than 30 years and is still going strong. :)
Thank you SO MUCH for checking out a metal legend! One of the most distinctive voices in the world, I love him to bits.
Cute fun fact: the lady singing backing vocals is his wife! :)
It is always fun to see someone check out King for the first time!! He is simply a legend!
One of the most underrated bands and lead vocal ever.
Yes. Halford and Dickinson and Dio get lots of love, but I think King blows them all away! I saw him in Detroit a few days ago.
You just validated so many old metal heads like myself.
And young ones that enjoy quality music
This warmed my heart. Kind Diamond is my favorite musician! And to see someone react the same way I did when I first heard him hits me on a personal level! Thank you! 😭🖤🤘🔥
been a fan since 1989... first heard them and was hooked instantly...he went even higher in the past... most people dont get he was trained as an opera singer but was metal to the core... love the metal operas
YES FINALLY!! I've wanted you to react to the King for SO LONG!
you and me both!
I can't believe she did it! I suggested it in the comments on another video maybe a week ago
I wish you take a look at a few of his other songs like at the graves Twilight Symphony welcome home tea visit from the dead victimized between Abigail them and conspiracy those were his best albums when it comes to writing songs and storytelling in the way he sang the songs she needs to hear them is there a fucking awesome
He is in his 63 and he sounds like this. Imagine him years ago while recording this stuff
Not hard when he sounds the same as he did back then. Long live King Diamond. Hope a new Mercyful Fate record is on the horizon. Cheers.
Legend has it he carries a letter hand written to him by Anton LaVay wherever he goes... Wonder what the letter says. "Dude you Rock!"?
Welcome to the wonderful world of King Diamond! Glad you like it!
It sounds like there's a new King Diamond fan coming into the coven.
Nice reference. First MF song I heard.
I was in to King and Mercyful Fate and black rose way before King Diamond but when he looked Mercyful Fate In for canned item that's when he really took off he became a legend after the first four albums and that ain't no shit
"With a smile on her face!"
Welcome to the world of metal. Musicianship, performance, theatrics, and conveying of stories.
I see king diamond, I hit like.
All hail the King!
For you to actually be worried about him being ok, that says so much about you. You are a blessing to this world of ours, I mean that. With any and all of your imperfecrions/shortcomings/whatever. Aside from that, another cool reaction, thanks lovely lady :)
THE EYE ,THEM, ABIGAIL,CONSPIRACY . names of his albums that are a must listen "don't be afraid" ….
The high notes in Abigail are phenomenal..
THE EYEEEEE
Fatal Portrait!!!!!!
Thank you for having the balls to react to King Diamond! His voice is very divisive. Many people are turned off by the falsetto. As for me, I love it! He's entirely self-taught btw
I hope she hasn't got balls, I've been tugging myself silly over her for several weeks now.
Them was one of the greatest Horror Story albums ever produced
Yes it was but you're forgetting conspiracy it's the follow-up to them and I love both albums you can write two awesome horror movies from each one of those albums including Abigail and fatal portrait House of God graveyard spiders lullaby you can probably even write a movie to the eye although that really is a horse to right but you can make something out of me to wear it would scare the shit out of somebody which would be awesome we need somebody like King to sit down with a director and a producer and go over his albums and I guarantee you can see quite a few movie is coming if they're just for somebody that had a brain and sit down and talk with King
The Eye is my favorite though of all the King Diamond albums.
@@transsylvanian9100 Yes. I've recently discovered how good The Eye is. Say what you will about the supernatural horror of King's other albums, The Eye is more horrifying because it is so obviously believable that these things actually happened and are likely still happening. It's full of all-too-believable torture and abuse, but violence that was justified for supernatural reasons.
So was Abigail.
@@sethcashman1011 Abigail is a treasure, and I particularly love it in its entirety on the Songs For The Dead concert CD/DVD.
I attended this show. The fact that King Diamond can still sing like that in his 60s is amazing.
A few quick fun facts about the King:
He is 62 years old.
And he’s 63(!) in a couple of days. Legend!
He was 59 during this performance though.
Dan Maler Yeah but he’s as good now.
With King Diamond, each voice switch up is a different character in his storytelling.
I guess this is your first experience with King Diamond. "Them" is my favorite album.
Definately
I go way back to Mercyful Fate. This guy kicks ass
@@edvas625 yeah, me too
I think Them is actually one of my least favorite albums.
I would have to say the puppet master is mine.
I met King before a show in 1986 on the Fatal Portrait tour, at the Cabaret Metro in Chicago. Just the nicest man around. Very approachable and down to earth. Astonishing vocal abilities live.
Back in 87 when King Diamond rolled out the burning baby carriage I knew I was in for a great concert!
Ask a dane and he will say Lars Ulrich is the best danish metalmusician... Ask a metalhead and he wil say King Diamond!
@@kimhoffmannandersen5477 what an asshole you are if you dont consider metallica's drummer as metal. Best singer EVER. EVER!!!

And yes, he does enjoy playing for his fans... a truly thankful artist who appreciates and respects his fans
There are really a good many top metal singers. But there will only ever be one King Diamond. 🤘
Please react to Andre Matos in his band Angra.
I'd like to suggest "Carry on".
He was on the best lead singers of World and a legend in the power metal style.
Unfortunately he left this world suddenly last weekend and it would be great if you could make him an homage. =)
Yes! Carry On would be excellent!

@@Danimal77 thanks 👌🏻
I love that you checked out King Diamond! Been a fan of him since I was a kid. And he is danish like me :). Great video 👍.
King Diamond is one of those bands you show to people to see what their reaction is. I remember my first time, I laughed at how he sang. But that's typical for someone who doesn't really understand what they're being shown. (I was like 16 and just getting into Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, not really ready for this.)
Anyway, it didn't take me long to understand why this is amazing. Andy Larocque is a fucking god. Also Mercyful Fate is badass too. \m/
I can relate... In 1985 my metal friends in high school let me borrow don't break the oath and warned me the singer sounded like a baby! LOL
I like how Andy has so much control when he plays guitar....like jenduxbskxhebxusvwkxkeb
Thanks for listening to King Diamond and all the rest of the hard rock and metal you have listened too. You rock!
And he was a lifelong smoker coming off quadruple bypass at around 60 years old at this recording g
And he came back at his best since the 90ies. Simply the king
he's a master of making storytelling albums and he is very unique as a vocalist, one of the underrated masters
It is great you saw King Diamond live to see him change his voice He is the Best out there

what's great with King is his voice never really changed from his first band Mercyful Fate to his solo stuff.
mikkey dee was the original drummer on this song and he is a beast. best drummer king diamond ever had and drummed on all king most legendary albums.
A criminally underrated singer, musician, and band. King Diamond \m/
He's 60 years old here! I'm kinda surprised myself how good he still sounds.
And having had a bypass surgery on top of it.
He is like Freddie Mercury got ready for Halloween....
Exatly...
Except king diamond isn't gay.. and more tha likely despises them LOL
You're right. I think King is even more operistic and theatrical than Freddie. Close minded people always tend to mention sexual orientation when talking about Freddie or Rob Halford and that's an entirely personal matter. King's wife is like 20 years younger than him, who cares?
You comparing king diamond to a Battyman
King Diamond is so brilliant as a singer and Sleepless Night is a really good choice to enter in his world. But King Diamond is also a band with perfect and amazing musicians/friends.

YES, Finally a reaction to King Diamond. Not bad for a guy in his 60's thats been doing this since the early 80's.
@LESSOFMYSELFTOKILL Official Yes, you are correct but as King Diamond, the early 80s. But there was Brainstorm in 74 to 76. It was good but I think he really got good in the late Black Rose days then once he became part of the Mercyful Fate thing is when he really took off.
