saw from an Amazon review that the metal plates now have a large cut-out to accommodate some bigger sticks, (I don't know about fitting a Fanta or a Happ in there but apparently Seimitsu LS-32s fit better now) it's good to see 8bitdo is addressing criticisms quickly

Nice review! I really like the NES inspired design they chose when making this arcade stick. I think it might be worth pointing out the little amount of space you have when installing buttons. For most people replacing the stock buttons with Sanwa obsf 30 snap in buttons is easy. If you are interested in trying other buttons, however, you might run into some trouble with screw ins since the pcbs seem to get in the way. I also feel that not including quick disconnects for the lever is a deal breaker for most new-to-the-scene modders. As cool as this stick is... I think I'll just stick with my F500 for now. Looking forward to new uploads in the future.

I think the reason 8BitDo uses a heart icon for the home button is because it doesn't always map to "home". On Windows, it tends to map to "Guide", but it can also be treated as any input. I often use it as a "quit" button since it's small, out of the way, and not easy to press by mistake.

I bought a 2nd one on special last week and it looks like they have changed the bottom section. The metal has a much larger cutout in it under the stick. I'm assuming that's to help with wider stick compatibility. Just thought I'd mention it as I only just noticed.

    This is the stick for
    1. retrofighters, i mean for those who often play old fighting games title on Raspberry system.
    2. Indie fighting game players on steam
    3. Smash players on Nintendo
It's not that universal since it cannot play on the latest system , Ps5....unless if you want to change the PCB stock board with Brook Universal Fighting Board. Also, for old school users, you might wanna swap the stock button and lever to OBSF button and JLF lever sanwa parts. Still the enclosure / body is very neat and awesomely retrospective. I m would recommend this for non-playstation users (Nintendos, Raspberry, and Windows)

Very insightful review. I was debating if I should get this stick or not (never bought one). I am a die hard tekken fan and I've justy recently picked up Tekken 8. Watching your video made me decide to buy this stick. Very thankful for you uploading such a detaliled and well-elaborated video. I'm subscribing for sure. Keep up the great work my bro, greetings from Peru.

Great video ❤, one thing I would like to point out is that my 8bitdo (switch/pc ver) came with Phillips screws like the Xbox version. I bought it a month ago so 8bitdo probably changed for the newer models 🔥🔥

...am I the only person who thinks that this arcade stick looks like a futuristic, updated version of the NES Advantage Joystick?
I mean think about it. it has the same color as the NES Advantage, the same shape, and the same black control stick, and red buttons.

In my journey of finding ways how to be able to play MvC2 (play it on PC or console? I dunno) and of course play it using a joystick, I landed to your channel. Can you help me find ways how to play it and if I could use the 8bitdo fight stick? I guess this stick will do for a beginner like me in fulfilling my ultimate dream of slaying the infinite Magneto Rom. Already watched your tutorial with that by the way and a very nice and DETAILED review with the 8bitdo stick. I really love how you explained it step by step with all the details required. I'm a person who is keen to details that's why I really appreciated this review. Anyways, more power to you're channel and I do hope you could help me with my struggle to find ways to play MvC2. Thanks!

The new revision of ther 8bitdo that comes with philips screws, even fits a Seimitsu LS-32 without any changes. Just use the plate that comes with the 8bitdo. Before you used to have to dril a hole or sand the plastic. It also bits the LS-55, LS-56, LS-58, etc. as they are even smaller.

@joystickny I have a 8bitdo arcade stick. To-date I’ve left the square gate in it but I was wondering would it be better for a game like Tekken to have the octagonal gate in? Does it make much difference? What do you use and why?

Yeah I might just buy this stick to replace my mayflash f300, since the cable is going out and I cant seem to find a replacement cable. even better, I won't have to purchase an octagonal gate because the mayflash one will work for the 8bitdo stick
    Edit: I just bought one

Hey,is a Madcatz TE (Past gen one) for 50$ a good deal?It has Sanwa's and its easily moddable,so i am thinking to buying it as my starting arcade stick.Previously had a Hori Fighting Stick Mini and lever on it just stopped working.Even that the stick was not good,i had fun learning arcade sticks,so i want to get a good one.And i think that stick will be a good base for starting out and upgrading in the future.
And thank you for all your reviews, merry christmas)

My TVs in the basement so I rarely dock my switch, I always just play in handheld. But playing with a fight stick in handheld seems kind of a weird and eye strain causing. I do have a portable monitor though and also have ordered a genki shadowcast which lets you play switch off a laptop. So those are the main ways I’m planning on using my 8bitdo arcade stick with the switch

I have this. If you play on PC or Switch, it's a great arcade stick to have around. You'll definitely want to mod it with some higher quality buttons and a good joystick though. I put Sanwa parts in mine and it feels MUCH better and more responsive. The stock parts are functional, but not something you'll want to use for competitive matches.

Now that i'm not going to locals my ps4 sticks just feel like a burden to use at home since I play on pc and switch. This stick has been way more fun to bust out since i can quickly swap between my switch, my desktop, and my laptop using all of its included connection types.
Also, I set the macro buttons to Left stick click and Right stick click which now give it access to all of the inputs on a normal controller

I would like to understand how to set it up in Recalbox (Raspberry Pi)
On the Arcade Stick, how should I position the 2 "main" buttons (top left)?
    1) switch mode: switch / off/ X-input? (obviously to switch off the stick, you must position this button on "off")
    2) control stick switch: left-stick - d-pad - right-stick (I have absolutely no idea what this is all about)
And in Recalbox, how do you configure this stick? (I know the "joysticks" and "configure a joystick" menu, but then?)
