I usually hate when tutorials show the same thing over and over but for some reason your take on that type of tutorial just works. Very clear and simple instructions, and actually entertaining. The best channel about sticks for newbies like myself for sure :)
The new revision that comes with philips screws, even fits a Seimitsu LS-32 without any changes. Just use the plate that comes with the 8bitdo. Before you used to have to dril a hole or sand the plastic. It also bits the LS-55, LS-56, LS-58, etc. as they are even smaller.
Have you tried installing a LS-32 in the Arcade Stick? I really don’t see how it would fit without sanding down the bottom of the Arcade Stick or drilling a hole in it 🤔
Well. I ordered a LS-32-01-SE and it fits. Perfectly. Without any modifications. And I didn't even have to use the plate that comes with the 8bitdo, it fits perfectly with the original SE plate the LS-32 comes with.
Top notch quality and well produced. Thank you so much for your effort and details. You definitely earned my sub and I look forward to watching more of your content.
I also want to let you know that I bought a JLF joystick from the link below as well. I hope that you make more videos like this in the future. I really appreciate all that you do.
Thank you so much for the support 🙏❤️ i will keep going and make more videos, currently have alot of video on my list, and over time, make them on my days off 🕹
I just got the new 2023 8bitdo stick (for xbox and PC) and it's really good.. already in the modding process with it, i've changed the buttons from stock to Seimitsu and i'm waiting for a Seimitsu LS56 stick to arrive shortly which i'll be installing using the soldering method. A tip for anyone is that not all Seimitsu joysticks will fit into this box (same as the previous 8bitdo arcade stick) you must check the depth of each model as there is limited space unless you want to start cutting holes in the base to accommodate it. The LS40 for example will not fit, it's too deep.
I love how much effort you put into these videos. You could have settled with one method but you actually gave us different approaches to modding it. Kudos to you, sir.
I love the ability to modify arcade sticks. Fighting games can get players a little... enthusiastic and even with high quality parts any moving thing will eventually wear out or break.
This was a very helpful tutorial. I put a Seimitsu 56-01-AS stick in mine and the only difference was I had to flip the connector to the stick to have the tabs facing up. Just in case anyone else runs into that issue.
Thank you, there are actually a few more, but its very similar and just variations of what the video, and i didnt want to make it too long as its already quite long 😂 🙏❤️
As for now, i still have a long list of foundation video to make, because the channel is still consider new, when i get to a certain point, i can get in to characters and explore more type of content 🙏❤️ thank you
Thank you for this video I decided to go for broke and attempt to solder for the first time in my life and it worked out with no problems, and I feel great!
Thank you for the tutorial. I really liked the look of this stick. It reminded me of the NES Advantage I owned as a kid. I wasn't going to get it because of the joystick mod. Now I think I'll pick up the stick and the 5 pin connector. Thanks for the purchase links.
i've been afraid to modify my stick for a while, assuming it was too complicated for me. thank you for making it so easy to understand! just bought some color coded buttons for guilty gear and i'm excited to pop my stick open.
Thank you so much for this! I just got my arcade stick today and was looking for someone who knows how to solder and thanks to this vid I don"t need to solder anymore just to upgrade the fight stick..
I have a spare Madcatz SE that i bought modded with Sanwa lever + buttons for about 80$ (including the original lever and buttons) so i'm tempted to buy this 8bitdo stick, move over the Sanwa hardware to it, and have it as a Player-2 Switch stick (my own is the Hori RAP that i use quite often) if a friend ever wants to try playing on stick (while the Madcatz SE will be modded back to stock). Thank you very much for your quality content! Keep up the good work!
Fantastic video, thank you for this. I have never modded a joystick before and thought the process might be a little intimidating. I was clearly wrong. Your video gave me the confidence to give it a try.
I love how in depth this was! Even though my favorite method would be pulling in the adaptor, knowing how to do more ways gives me ideas like making a separate adaptor extension cable. Thank you!
Thank you so much, i actually wanted to cover a few more ways, but it would have made the video 1 hour long, so i left it at this , and i also cut out soo much already, i personally dont like cutting video, but it can get too slow for some viewers, everyday is a learning experience for me, 🙏❤️
Much appreciated. I got gifted one of these and heard that they are a great platform for upgrades so I’m looking at a lax nobi pro and qanba KS gravity buttons. Thank you for the 5 pin method really makes things doable. I’ll shave down the little tooth so it sits flush.
i was really considering buying this stick for the nostalgic aesthetics, the only dealbreaker was the small size. But it's good to know that modding the controller wasn't as difficult as one might think
I just modded my Tatsunoko Vs Capcom stick (from 2010!) with pink Sanwa silent buttons and I love them so much! Sanwas are loud but so satisfying when doing combos
I've finally finished customizing my 8bitdo Arcade Stick. I put the buttons on the Qanba Garvity KS (Purple and Green) and the Seimitsu Nobi Pro stick, so that the stick didn't grab the bottom it had to be milling hard, even melted a small hole.
Thanks for showing us the various methods that we can use! I have recently purchased the same 8Bitdo fight stick and I'm not really satisfied with the feel of the stick itself so thinking to mod the stick for something more sturdy and more arcade-like. The buttons seems okay to me as-is.
I just bought this because I got the samurai showdown collection physical edition from Limited Run Games the other day. Your video came right on time. Thank you.
Thank you for this video! I nodded my stick with no problems! I did end up taking one of the bottom metal plates (mine had two) because it weighed a little too much, especially for traveling. Thanks, again!!
About 8 and a half minutes in, and this has me curious about why the stock stick would have 3 extra ground wires? Thank you for the clear instructions, and for giving me something to go read about!
Ah, think I figured it. The stock stick has individual circuits for each switch. The Sanwa has a common ground pin, with its own circuit to each switch
Actually, if you remove the PCBs first, you'd be able to use buttons that you can screw on. Since they fasten down and sits flush, it'll clear the PCBs. If you're concerned about it rubbing against the plastic chassis, you can sand down or dremel down those walls. They're there to help keep the PCB sitting flat.
Great video. Finally decided to mod my one and watching this gave me the confidence that I wouldn't completely stuff it up 😆. One thing that did happen to me when I was installing some new Sanwa buttons, was that when pressing in the L-connector wire, I actually ended up bending the button's connectors. So just be careful that you've pushing the L-connectors in dead straight. Also, another observation was that my copy had standard Phillips head screws holding the case together. I suspect that this is a regional difference (mine was purchased in New Zealand).
Great help there with adaptor caple for the stick. There is a lot of "you have to solder-comments" about this stick, but your recommended method worked like a charm. Thanks!
Very good video. Thorough, informative and well explained. You don’t see many of this quality. I’m glad you went over many options in varying degrees of “invasiveness”
@@JoystickNY Just placed my order for the following from Amazon: 1. Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT Joystick + Sanwa 8 pcs OBSF-30 Push Button Bundle Kit Color : Gray - for Arcade Game 4 & 8 Way Adjustable (few bucks cheaper to get this bundle @ $42.95 instead of buying joystick alone at $26 and buttons alone at $22) 2. SANWA GT-Y Octagonal Restrictor gate for JLF Joysticks Set of 2 (one's $6 so may as well get 2 for $8. I can use the other one for the eventual more higher end fight stick I'm planning to get at some point for my PS5) 3. Atomic Market US Style Bat Top (Red) (there's a 2 pack that's very close in price to this single one, but seemed the reviews were better for this one at quick glance) 4. Hikig 5 Pcs/Lot 5Pin Cable for SANWA Joystick, Zero Delay USB Encoder, Mayflash F300 Joystick and 2.54mm Pitch Female to Female JST XH Adapter 20cm (this straight from your video) 5. "2lb 4lb 6lb Tension Custom Spring For SANWA JLF Series Joysticks" - Going to try different spring weights too. Also not sure if I have the T10 screw driver or not so just grabbed this again to be sure: "CHANNELLOCK T10X3 TORX Screwdriver" Going to try these out and see how I like it. You can also use the soldering iron to solder the wires together and then slide a bit of heat shrink over it and use the heat gun to shrink the heat shrink into place. This would be the traditional way of splicing a cable for this.
wowza, this guide was incredibly in-depth and I appreciate the work that was put into showing off the different methods to change the joystick, so this guide can help as many people as possible. Keep up the great work :)
Your videos are relaxing 😌 informative and well produced 👌 Watched your whole video and I don't even own the 8bitdo arcade stick. Even so I enjoyed it very much.
such a sick video, thanks for getting really in depth with this. There are not a lot of channels that I see teaching how to mod sticks very in depth like this.
Thank you very much for the tutorial, it was very easy to understand (My English is basic). By the way, my arcade stick came with star screws (cross screws) instead of the T10 screws.
Wow, incredibly comprehensive and clearly explained tutorial, I wish even half of UA-cam did things as well as this. This totally made my decision between the 8BitDo and Mayflash sticks since I have an old Seimitsu LS-33 I'm planning on using that doesn't have the 5 pin connector, the Mayflash will be much easier. Thank you so much for the hard work to put these videos together.
Fantastic video. Just got myself a 8bitdo stick and thinking of changing the stick. Will use this video as reference. I'm an old timer, so soldering is the way for me. You got another subscriber here and thank you.
Really great guide. I wanted to skip this fight stick since I didn't want to solder since I have no equipment and I didn't want to cut the existing cables since I want to keep the lever. I never realized you can shove in a 5 pin cable in the port.
Good detailed video, I just modded mine with Seimitsu LS-62 and Seimitsu buttons! I had a 5-pin to five single dupont connectors cable which also worked great for connecting the lever
I agree to my fellow viewers that this is well produced. I learned a lot for your methods even I don't have any arcade fighting controller. But after I watched this video I will now buy this controller. They should sponsor your channel =) thanks.
Thanks for the great tutorial! I was able to install a Seimitsu LS-55 and accompanying buttons into mine and I really love how clicky the stick is and how resistant the buttons are VS the stock ones. I don't remember if you mentioned it in the video or not (I skimmed for the info I needed once I got to rewatching during the actual modding process) but the Seimitsu 5-pin wire colors are different from the Sanwa ones; easy enough to fix after the fact but at first I wasn't sure why the directions weren't going through properly. Had to look into the problem and redo the wire matching once I realized what was afoot, but now it's 100% fantastic. Hopefully my screw-up can save some other noob the headache!
@lordofsquad Do you know if the 5 pin adapter cable used in this video would work on a Seimitsu joystick with 5 pin connector? Or would it just mess up the directions? I hope you can save this noob a headache!
@@ostmedkommensmag Did your stick come with an accompanying 5-pin wire or did you order it separately? I ordered mine from Akishop and it came with the appropriate one. The right direction/wire colour match-up will depend on what particular stick model you have as well, did you get the LS-55 or something else?
@@lordofsquad I still haven't decided on which Seimitsu joystick to go with, so I'm on a quest trying figure out which stick will suit my needs the best. I'll mainly be using the stick for 4-way games like the old school arcade Donkey Kong, and my research so far has told me that the Seimitsu sticks are better 4-way sticks than the Sanwa JLF (or am I wrong?). I really like the idea of not having to cut any wires or soldering because of my limited skills and knowledge so therefor I'm trying to figure out if the 5 pin adapter cable JoyStickNY is using in this video would work on a Seimitsu joystick or not? And maybe some advice on which Seimitsu stick that would be best for 4-way games?
@@ostmedkommensmag I can't attest to the differences between sticks other than between the LS-55 and the stock one, and the LS-55 is certainly better than stock, with more of a snappy feel. Checking quickly, it looks like that or the LS-33 are your only Seimitsu choices for this particular stick unless you want to start hacking away at the plastic. Honestly, if you're mainly looking to play 4-way games, I just might consider going with the Sanwa JLF for the simple fact that it's easier to get a 4-way restrictor gate for it than it is for those two Seimitsu models. Whatever stick you go with should come with the appropriate 5-pin cable, or at least be available for purchase from the same source. You can probably mix and match (they mechanically work the same, only real diff is the colour-coding) but you'll save yourself some trial and error figuring out which colour corresponds to what direction if you get the properly colour-coded cable for your stick in the first place. JoyStickNY's video here assumes you're using the Sanwa so if you do go with Seimitsu you'll have to look up the colour-direction guide for whatever stick you pick, but the process of stripping the wires, twisting them together, and wrapping it off in electrical tape will be the same. Hope that helps!
thanks for the vid, i didnt think to try using the 5 pin cable in the 8 pin socket, of course the last 4 pins are ground so it makes perfect sense!!! shame they didn't put enough clearance for the screw in buttons, just for the illuminated button display.
The adaptor chapter is the easiest one to do, and it's the one that most people can do. And if you're planning to use this on the NES, you can get either the Seimitsu LS-32 or the LS-56, since NES don't have fighting games...
Good video, those punch down connectors take so much force because they are pressing blades into the wire when you punch them down. This cuts thru the wire sleeve, so to use those correctly, you actually do not want to strip the wire first. Similar to how most punch down wire connections work.
Amazing video! Try to mod it to a JFL sanwa but realized that you can’t use an octogonal gate. The weight metal plates are cut for a square/regular gate. Going to try with a regular gate now!
You need to make a video about restrictor gates, they aren’t covered very well. Also, it would be nice for people to consider IL Euro Sticks, if they tried them back in the day.
@@JoystickNY cool. Some people should know they aren’t “restricted” to the square restrictor gate. Korean sticks and Koreans in general don’t even use square gates.
Best arcade stick channel around.

Thank you , pleasure to help 🙏❤️
You can also use the soldering iron to solder the wires together and then slide a bit of heat shrink over it and use the heat gun to shrink the heat shrink into place. This would be the traditional way of splicing a cable for this.
Thank you for the input, i def alot to learn in that aspect ❤️🙏
Your video is the most informative mod solution that I've seen.
And you gave three ways on how to. The best.
Thank you, happy to help 🙏❤️
Thank you so much for the review and modding guide JSNY! I just bought 8bitdo today, feels great for my first arcade fightstick ♥
Enjoy my friend thank you for watching
Definitely is the best arcade stick channel. Thanks for the video on the 8bitdo. Been looking forward to this one and the option outside of soldering!
Thank you for the support ❤️🙏 somehow this comment slip thru the cracks and didnt send a notification. Sorry for the late reply
Really clear and easy to follow. I had wondered if that trick with the 5-pin would work, good to see that it does!
Thank you 🙏❤️ happy to hear it can help 😊
wowza, this guide was incredibly in-depth and I appreciate the work that was put into showing off the different methods to change the joystick, so this guide can help as many people as possible. Keep up the great work :)
Thank you, i prefer to give more info and longer videos
Your videos are relaxing 😌 informative and well produced 👌 Watched your whole video and I don't even own the 8bitdo arcade stick. Even so I enjoyed it very much.
Wow thank you so much for the support 🙏 you motivate me to do better and continue to learn, i still have a lot to learn in the video making area ❤️
such a sick video, thanks for getting really in depth with this. There are not a lot of channels that I see teaching how to mod sticks very in depth like this.
Thank you 🙏❤️ i am happy to help and share the info, 😊 more to come
Thank you very much for the tutorial, it was very easy to understand (My English is basic). By the way, my arcade stick came with star screws (cross screws) instead of the T10 screws.
Must be diff location have diff product designs
Wow, incredibly comprehensive and clearly explained tutorial, I wish even half of UA-cam did things as well as this. This totally made my decision between the 8BitDo and Mayflash sticks since I have an old Seimitsu LS-33 I'm planning on using that doesn't have the 5 pin connector, the Mayflash will be much easier. Thank you so much for the hard work to put these videos together.
Semitsu lever fits on mayflash fightstick?
Yes
@@JoystickNY cant find seimitsu lever on Amazon, what is a good online shop to get one? Thanks 😀
I use
Focus attack
Paradise arcade
Arcade shock
Fantastic video. Just got myself a 8bitdo stick and thinking of changing the stick. Will use this video as reference. I'm an old timer, so soldering is the way for me. You got another subscriber here and thank you.
Appreciate the support 🙏❤️
Best tutorial on this! Watched several but your detail on the connector and wires for the stick was so much better. Nice work
Thank you for the support 🙏❤️
Thank you for the support 🙏❤️
Really great guide. I wanted to skip this fight stick since I didn't want to solder since I have no equipment and I didn't want to cut the existing cables since I want to keep the lever. I never realized you can shove in a 5 pin cable in the port.
Yea, i am happy it worked, many people will be happy to avoid the complicated process 🙏❤️
Good detailed video, I just modded mine with Seimitsu LS-62 and Seimitsu buttons! I had a 5-pin to five single dupont connectors cable which also worked great for connecting the lever
Thank you, i am glad to hear a seimitsu fiits 👍🕹
I'm going to save this video for future refence once my fighting stick arrives and wanting to mod it.
with how beautiful the NES design is, i cant bring myself to change the buttons into different colors, but i might change the top into a bat top tho
thanks a lot, that is exactly what I need. I just ordered Sanwa Joystick. I cannot get anywhere 5pin adapter cable. So your movie is just great !
Thank you so much
Well, this solved all of my problems in changing out my joystick. Subbed!
Best channel to learn as a beginner.. beautifully explained and appreciate your efforts in videos..thanks for uploading these contents..love you bro❤️
I am happy to hear the videos helps, thank you for watching 🙏❤️
I did the tape method and it works like a charm. Thank you so much!
Good to hear 👍🕹
Great guide not just for 8bitdo arcade stick but for any other arcade projects, keep up the good work man.
thank you for the support 🙏❤️
I agree to my fellow viewers that this is well produced. I learned a lot for your methods even I don't have any arcade fighting controller. But after I watched this video I will now buy this controller. They should sponsor your channel =) thanks.
Thank you for the support 🙏❤️
Agreed.
Hugely helpful, I know nothing about electronics but this made it so upgrading couldn't be easier
Thank you, happy to hear it helps 🙏❤️
@@JoystickNY I changed the stick and want to change the buttons, what size are they?
Thank you for the info, i dont think i mentioned it, good to know, i havent had the chance to mess around with other levers yet ❤️🙏
Thank you for watching 🙏❤️
The adaptor chapter is the easiest one to do, and it's the one that most people can do.
And if you're planning to use this on the NES, you can get either the Seimitsu LS-32 or the LS-56, since NES don't have fighting games...
Thank you for sharing 🙏❤️
Good video, those punch down connectors take so much force because they are pressing blades into the wire when you punch them down. This cuts thru the wire sleeve, so to use those correctly, you actually do not want to strip the wire first. Similar to how most punch down wire connections work.
Ahhh, Good to know; thank you,
Congratulations!!!! Another great video, looking forward to your next video, Greetings from Mexico
Thank you so much for the support 🙏❤️
I’ve learned so much from this, thank you! Very glad I found your channel! Excited to customize my arcade stick eventually!
Apreciate the love 🙏
When you labeled the wires i subbed and liked and am leaving this comment, genius
Thank you so much for the support ❤️🙏
Amazing video! Try to mod it to a JFL sanwa but realized that you can’t use an octogonal gate. The weight metal plates are cut for a square/regular gate. Going to try with a regular gate now!
Wow, i did not even know that, they should have just left it with a bigger opening ❤️🙏
Glorious tutorial, quality content.
I really appreciate you for support the channel, as i dont have sponsor or get gifts from companies, it helps alot. ♥️🙏
You need to make a video about restrictor gates, they aren’t covered very well.
Also, it would be nice for people to consider IL Euro Sticks, if they tried them back in the day.
That one is on my list, i have a long list of video in my book i plan to make down the road, my video output is very slow due to full time job 🙏❤️
@@JoystickNY cool. Some people should know they aren’t “restricted” to the square restrictor gate.
Korean sticks and Koreans in general don’t even use square gates.
You are so incredibly helpful it’s amazing. Thank you so much for this content. I wish i watched this before my last arcade project lol.
Anytime my friend
