The switch 2 if it comes with backwards compatibility will be even more successful than the switch. That's because already having the best exclusive titles, the more powerful hardware will make it possible for massive triple A franchises to launch their games on the switch 2, making it the console with the best catologue of games and thus destroying the competition.
WILD IDEA: yes... have the Switch 2 get all the various upgrades to meet modern standards. But here is a proposed kicker: throw in a "Retro Slot" that will accommodate DS and 3DS cartridges along with the SD Card slot. BAM! The Switch 2 is not only brand new but is also RETRO. This would give Nintendo a chance to recapture all those previous owners/players who have a DS/3DS that has worn out. Both Old & New in one system. That is my Wild Idea.
Nintendo has tightened its grip on the combination of success: self-reliance, a hybrid gaming device, the release of many high-quality exclusives that meet the public’s demand, and Nintendo has Pokemon.
If it is another hybrid console, and they price it at $350, then maybe. At $400, it could break 100M lifetime sales with the right games, but I doubt it will reach the success of the Switch. (If they introduce a strategic price cut later down the line, that may help sales enough to match the Switch as well.) They will also need to give it lots of time on the market, just like they have with the Switch.
LOL It won't be discounted at launch because launch is when the most people buy because they want to be the cool one with the latest technology before everyone else has it. The price may drop but that will be gradual over time as sales start to decline.
Switch OLED is currently 350$. There's no way it will be the same price. Lol. The minimum price will probably be 400$ but that's still pushing it. My bet will be 449$, you also need to remember that Nintendo sells their console for profit at launch EVERYTIME, there's no way they will suddenly change that just to get higher sales numbers..
I think it could be successful at a $500 price point. It would really need to be a lot better spec wise than the switch, as well as be backwards compatible with possible up scaling for some games.
I have a day one launch switch I had for a LONGGGGG time till the TotK Oled came out, due to my love for Zelda and the fact the Oled upgrade woulda been great I instantly pre ordered it when I could. I also might buy the Switch Lite Zelda Edition just for the sakeds of it being Zelda lol
I liked the concept of the Wii U. I think if you were able to keep the functionality of the Switch, but rather than having to dock the switch, you could somehow connect it wirelessly to a central hub of sorts if you wanted to play it on your screen (You'd still have the option to connect it to the dock if you wanted the upscale in resolution). Then you could still utilize your switch as a type of game pad or standalone handheld. I think that would be the best natural progression of sorts which would also allow the implementation of older games such as Xenoblade X if trying to port the game was too difficult.
The next switch also wont have the back catalogue to pull from that the OG had via the Wii U. And since the "definitive" edition of MarioKart, Smash, etc released on the OG I struggle to think what the new one will have to offer many owners of the switch to entice them to upgrade. Some gimmick with the magnetic attachments might now be enough. We shall see.
Personally I don’t see it being as successful but I see it doing fairly well if Nintendo makes proper upgrades and offers some much sought after features as well. Beyond that if it can run at a stable and consistent level I think it’ll do amazingly well. The thing about the Switch outside of reviving handhelds in a way with its hybrid design, it was also incredibly slingshot by how poorly the Wii U performed. People wanted something new and better and the switch was that in almost every way to where we had the running gag of the Wii U being a beta test for the switch. Whats gonna define this new Switch is how much of an upgrade it really is. Not even just at the hardware level but also at the software level. It needs a solid launch and to finally have some core assets that Nintendo has tended to be more avoidant on. Just to name a few things - an overall better online infrastructure - a better UI/UX with customization options - A better eshop experience overall - consistent and stable frame rates - better onboard storage (SSD) In short it needs to feel like a better more complete hybrid that hopefully this time around will pace a bit better throughout its life cycle with a good feature set that should be expected at this stage in gaming.Pair that with good indie and third party support alongside Nintendos games and we got a winner. And I’ll say this once more. DO NOT UNDERCLOCK THE SYSTEM SO HEAVILY
Considering that the Wii U did noticeably worse than the Wii, I think it's reasonable to expect that the Switch's successor will maybe not do as well. Also, Nintendo should stop with these names and just call it Switch 2 to make it clear what this is. Backwards compatibility with Switch games (digital & physical) and using the same Nintendo Switch Online system is a must. All digital purchases need to carry over. We'll just have to see what Nintendo does.
I seriously hope the Switch 2 is backwards compatible and it would be cool if there were more streaming apps available for it. Before someone says just use your TV/phone I would rather “switch” it up and watch shows on the Switch instead of always being on my phone/TV watching stuff. Imagine watching Hulu, Netflix, Peacock, Disney+, HBO Max, Paramount+, Tubi, Freevee etc. that would be awesome! 🤔
@@dylanarthur5526 I’m being serious, that would be a good idea. In the future, imagine microwaves with screens so you can watch stuff while heating up your food. Someone needs to go on Shark Tank and promote something like that for real. 🤔😆
Is take switch 2 but think if the like for like hybrid comes along at $400 they should also consider both a lite and tv only version at the lower price point. Still has the entry level pricing for those that only play at home or on the go, but you can pay more to get both.
It wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo went back to a conventional console, while retaining the Switch Lite as their mobile. Does mobile gaming really need so much power and graphical flash?
If the next Nintendo console is powerful enough to run most 3rd party stuff, it’ll do amazing. But, knowing Nintendo, it’ll have some gimmick or other. Hopefully that pushes it to places we haven’t even thought about yet. I do not need backward compatibility, I’ll keep a Switch in my collection to play this games. I would think we will get previews starting early in 2025, then we will get an idea of what we could expect to see.
The longer it takes for the new console to hit the market, the more it will fall behind if the rumoured specs prove to be real. The Switch was a succes because of the pandemic (as the only console available to buy) and the lack of handheld competition. Now the market gets flooded with decent and better handheld pc's and more powerful home consoles.
We shall see is all we can really say for now. But if it has backwards compatibility then that alone will make it easier to get into. Only other thing we can do is express our wishes so personally for me I want to see the return of Virtual Console, and the carrying over of our VC games we bought digitally back then (the other two do it so its time for Nintendo to join them). I also want to see OLED be the normal screen now, if the Vita had it the Switch 2 can have it too. Lastly I would like to see a better dock that allows the normal and Lite model to plug into the TV, also a dock design where I can put the joycons in a separate compartment from the main system so they arent sticking out like a sore thumb (looks silly in my living room tbh).
I think it has a chance as long as they keep putting out great games. But what doesn't help the Switch is so many top youtubers that cover Nintendo talked about how Switch 2 was coming out 2 years ago, 1 year ago etc etc & that put fear in new ppl on trying to pick it up thus slowing down future sales. I hope Nin doesn't end production & keeps it going for another 5 to 10 years regardless of sales.
Most certainly not, sequel systems rarely sell as much as what came before (especially with no pandemic to boost Switch 2 sales). But I do think that, assuming Nintendo doesn't fumble the bag somehow (which happened with the 3DS with it being overpriced at launch), the Switch 2 will comfortably sell over 100 million units by the end of its run. Though I doubt Nintendo sees the portable PCs like the Steam Deck or the ROG Ally as competition, especially when the Steam Deck isn't even sold at retail. 90% of the potential audience for the Switch 1 & 2 don't really know that said handheld PCs exist, with mostly gaming enthusiasts like us overhyping them. As for the Switch 1 passing the PS2's 155-160 million units, I think there's a decent chance it'll barely pass it. Though if Nintendo wants to make that an inevitability, they may want to consider a Switch 1 price drop. Between the relative lack of major sellers this holiday season (with only Super Mario Party Jamboree guaranteed to sell at least 10 million) & the Switch 2 potentially being revealed later this year, there are a lot of things that can cut the Switch 1's legs short. A price drop or more aggressive bundles could help off-set those roadblocks.
Personally, I don’t think the Switch 2 will live up to the Switch’s success for a couple of reasons. The first reason is because of the fact that the new console needs to introduce a new gimmick that separates it from its predecessor besides transitioning from a handheld to a home console. On top of that, most parents with little kids won’t be buying this because in their eyes, the current line up will be cheaper than the Switch 2 and will be plenty enough to suffice their kids.
Switch-2 gimmick will be "use any gen1 or gen2 Switch as a second-screen controller". Just like the Wii-U gamepad worked. Pair up to 4 Switches. This is the best explanation for why they are adding new themed Switch SKUs and accessories so close to the reveal of the Switch-2. Also explains why Zelda WW HD and TP HD haven't been released to switch yet. They want to maintain that second-screen experience that the Wii-U gave for those games. Imagine 4 switches paired to a tv connected Switch-2 console, for couch co-op games. They all get the second screen experience (compared to with Wii-U you could only have 1 screen gamepad connected).
personally i feel like if nintendo can do any upgrade well itl probably be the switch, all they really need to do is boost its power and give us a new nintendo gimmick that isnt stupid like wii u
Well from what I see, the plan is to put more titles out to sell the Switch, pass up the PS2 for best selling console, then announce the next console sometime after that. My main problems with the Switch is they, for some reason, won't port certain games when we know it's more than capable...and have a very outdated eShop layout...and no music/themes for the home screen and what not.
I bought a Zelda Switch OLED that has stayed in its box. I will also buy a Zelda Switch Lite that will also stay in its box. I love the Zelda special editions so much!
The Switch 2 will be basicaly an RTX 2050 ( mobile ) with a great CPU. Imagine having a nintendo console with games like every RE Remakes , DS3 / Elden ring , or other big PS4 / One games era
The only reason the 3ds failed was the same machine but with a weak upgrade to 3d and the $50 price hike, if the switch 2 is a different machine, it should be a fine console.
Imagine if Nintendo actually gave the Switch a price cut... PS2's were selling at $99 with a game in its final years, but Switch has never seen a price cut.
You simply do not dismiss and leave investors' questions about your upcoming flagship product unanswered while they are staring at a red tinted financial report card and a plummeting Nikkei index unless: A) You are supremely confident the product will be a homerun or, B) You are not willing and/or ready to show your hand just yet. I honestly don't know which of the two would be preferable.
I think for me, because I feel like my PS5 will last a while, especially as it's only use atm is a poor amount of Triple A games and watching media, I think the next Switch could be the big gaming console for me, a new animal crossing, maybe some bigger experiences due to "as powerful as ps4 and xbox one, and the possibility of backwards compatibility Let's just hope that price isn't too much, I already have Lego as a hobby lmao, stuffs expensive!!!!!! Due to all that, I think it could be big, because they're never going to be the same as Xbox and PlayStation, and that's exciting enough
if nintendo goes all out and give ''ps5 pro'' atleast ps5 graphics it'd be nice but graphics are just graphics gameplay matters more, how good gpx do you need etc
Switch 2 is gonna have to rely heavilyyyyy on its first party titles because this time around people have other handhelds ....They opened Pandora's box with the switch's form factor ....Now you gotta bring it with the exclusive games ...
I don't know if it can surpass the Switch as it depends how many people migrate/upgrade. The system needs to have significant improvements or otherwise they'll be no reason. And those who already have a switch have one now there's only a few new buyers left and if the new one is costing 400+ compared to the 300-250 you can get now that will probably play the same games i doubt the switch 2 or Switch U will sell well in it's first couple of years. The game Library is the KEY even without Backwards Compatibility it still needs to be strong and i doubt Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be Exclusive to the successor the first few games tend to be cross generational but it could be a situation like "Only for New Nintendo 3DS" or "Only for New Nintendo 2DS" so we'll see amd it'd push units lol.
unless the hardware is actually something revolutionary, i don't see it selling too well. Only reason to upgrade would be if you have an OG launch Switch or Switch lite. Switch OLED owners like me have little incentive to upgrade
I don't know of it the switch successor will will live up to the swith because the ones at this time that will buy it will be gamers. If it's not much of a difference in specs and capabilities or uniqueness, most parents may not buy their kids the next switch like they did before. Their kids may already have games they can play on it or they play on it as much as they should to warrant an upgrade for them. That's the only thing I can see for that. Now if they switch all their attention only to the new system and stop having games for the older ones and all the cool new games come out only on the new one, then yeah they may be able to sell more. Also on that of the successor is as powerful as rumored then there will be more games being posted over like they do to the ps4. Then yeah it will be bigger.
I hope Nintendo learned from the WiiU era, and instead introducing some new gimmicks to the switch, they should just improve the specs and fix the issues like stickdrift etc. I think people are really used to the concept as it is today and everyone seems familiar with it. Ppl just want a more powerful console. I think a simple specs bumbed up switch will be more successful than a switch with some new gimmicks no one asked for
my predictions for the next nintendo console: - it will be a cloud only device and it will only work with an internet connection - they will no longer sell physical media - they will offer some bullshit for sale like "amiibo cards" as replacement for physical games - the console will be cheap, but it will be a significantly inferior product compared to the switch - it won't be backwards compatible but they will offer a "subscription" where you can buy/rent cloud-based switch games - the latency for online games will be just as bad as it is now if not worse due to overcrowded servers those are my biggest concerns regarding nintendo's direction. like it or not nintendo has a lot more similarities to apple than any of their fans want to admit.
I really think Nintendo needs to step it up as far as power goes. A larger screen would be cool as well for playing more immersive games in handheld mode. At the end of the day, I will probably buy it, especially if it has backwards compatibility in a good bit more power.
I agree with you. The last few years have seen a rise in handheld pc's and powerful consoles. They can't afford to stay behind if they want to avoid a WiiU situation
Honestly as long as the switch 2 can run switch games better I’d be happy, stuff like Arkham knight which is a laggy mess, if it can run better I’m all in
I hate the detachable controller design. I let my brother play my Switch in handheld last week, he let go with his right hand to scratch his chin and all the weight was put on the right controller, after that I noticed the rail is loose now. A unibody design would prevent this.
Is it going to be a home console like the Wii or still a Hybrid i can see them doing both a pro home console and a 1080p OLED hybrid to replace the switch it would also act like the PS Portal for the home console.
Will it replicate how good the Switch is? Silly people over here, it will with 99% certainty be better. Will it replicate the popularity and cash inflow tho? No. Nononono. People may have forgotten, but the Switch's first 2 years were a direct product of the WiiU's failure. Of course, there are megafans like me who got it regardless, but I have heard so many people that were starving themselves of new Nintendo content for the entire WiiU's time in the sun and were desperate to get a Switch for new content. People are oversaturated now if anything with that many good games coming to Switch. It will still sell, but there is no shot of it mirroring what happened back then.

I really hope they are not choosing a stupid name like Switch U 😅 - In my opinion Switch 2 like Playstation 2 would be perfect and logical for parents - alternatively I can imagine Switch PRO of Super Switch Entertainment System. 😆 Appart from that I can Imagine that the new lineup could be Switch light, switch oled and Switch 2 to make sure that the Switch will keep selling enough units to become the best selling console of all time or maybe just the Switch light and Switch 2 let's see
I don’t think the Switch 2 is going to live up to the sales of the original Switch, but it doesn’t need to. I believe Nintendo is trying to market the Switch 2 as a hardcore gamers’ Switch that’s considerably more powerful and could compete with most of the other consoles on the market. Metroid Prime 4 alone is a compelling reason why a Switch upgrade would be so enticing for a gamer like me.
Highly doubt a Switch 2 could possibly live up to the Switch, unfortunately. It created a market that now has real competition. The good news for Nintendo is they won't port stuff over, and that helps them. And to your point, much like the PS4/5, the Switch 2 has to make a case to Switch owners that may be hard to make for some time. If Nintendo wants to succeed, they need to sell people on the upgrade, and I know how... with DUAL SCREENS. As an aside, it's wild how well the Switch has done compared to PS2, considering the latter was also the primary media player in a lot of homes.

Just to name a few things
- an overall better online infrastructure
- a better UI/UX with customization options
- A better eshop experience overall
- consistent and stable frame rates
- better onboard storage (SSD)
In short it needs to feel like a better more complete hybrid that hopefully this time around will pace a bit better throughout its life cycle with a good feature set that should be expected at this stage in gaming.Pair that with good indie and third party support alongside Nintendos games and we got a winner.
Geez man what's next, you want microwaves to stream Netflix and Hulu too? 🤦🏿♂️
@@dylanarthur5526 I’m being serious, that would be a good idea. In the future, imagine microwaves with screens so you can watch stuff while heating up your food. Someone needs to go on Shark Tank and promote something like that for real. 🤔😆
@@dylanarthur5526 That would seriously be a great idea. It’s gonna happen in the future one day.
You make a good point about affordability!
Based on this alone its difficult to claim that it will surpass the OG Switch.
Switch sold most units during a pandemic with everyone at home and all social events cancelled
I hope that Switch 2's games can be played on Switch "1" I like my Zelda edition Switch and I want to live up-to-date with it.
Lastly I would like to see a better dock that allows the normal and Lite model to plug into the TV, also a dock design where I can put the joycons in a separate compartment from the main system so they arent sticking out like a sore thumb (looks silly in my living room tbh).
a dockable Lite would defeat the purpose of there being a Lite in the first place so that's definitely not happening
Yes, it can!
If Switch 2 ported RDR2 I would lose my mind.
PCs and consoles are never seen as competing systems.
@@DevinB1979 a very interesting theory actually
after the Wii U I don't think they will pull something like that again. It will be a brand new console with new gimmicks and I am all for it.
I’m not planning on buying the switch 2 until the mid cycle refresh.
Do you mean like a oled version?
@@MaxDowngrades I would be surprised if it doesn't come oled right away
@@igotthejuice2090it won't...why do that when they can release an OLED version down the line at a higher price point?
personally i feel like if nintendo can do any upgrade well itl probably be the switch, all they really need to do is boost its power and give us a new nintendo gimmick that isnt stupid like wii u
They’re gonna beat Xbox and PlayStation in one thing, not releasing during a pandemic among supply chain issues.
I always am astounded how a company like Nintendo with the switch compete with the big boys such as Xbox and ps5.
As long as the switch 2 doesn't majorly mess up it will be able to sell 100m units probably barely albeit
The only reason the 3ds failed was the same machine but with a weak upgrade to 3d and the $50 price hike, if the switch 2 is a different machine, it should be a fine console.
Me and the fam got 3 oleds ,1 v2, 1 v1 and a lite we ready for a next gen switch
I want a Switch Lite 2 with a bigger screen, maybe 6-7 inches, sturdier body and little more thickness and a larger battery
I’m praying for it to surpass both the switch and the 3DS and the DS And also the Wii U as well
Imagine if Nintendo actually gave the Switch a price cut...
PS2's were selling at $99 with a game in its final years, but Switch has never seen a price cut.
I feel it will do just fine if they actually listen to feedback. Wheres my god damn themes Nintendo
Aint nobody acknowledging those extra units sold for PS2
out of nowhere 😂
😂
You simply do not dismiss and leave investors' questions about your upcoming flagship product unanswered while they are staring at a red tinted financial report card and a plummeting Nikkei index unless:
A) You are supremely confident the product will be a homerun or,
B) You are not willing and/or ready to show your hand just yet.
I honestly don't know which of the two would be preferable.
I think for me, because I feel like my PS5 will last a while, especially as it's only use atm is a poor amount of Triple A games and watching media, I think the next Switch could be the big gaming console for me, a new animal crossing, maybe some bigger experiences due to "as powerful as ps4 and xbox one, and the possibility of backwards compatibility
Let's just hope that price isn't too much, I already have Lego as a hobby lmao, stuffs expensive!!!!!!
Switch OLED owners like me have little incentive to upgrade
started with the Lite, upgraded to the OLED, & when their new console comes out i'll upgrade to that one
I love the switch 🥰
You love to snitch?!
All I want handled option with oled and backward compatibility
160m PS2’s sold is not official. It still stands officially at 155m.
Nintendo needs to fix nso service for me to want to get next system.
I think a simple specs bumbed up switch will be more successful than a switch with some new gimmicks no one asked for
my predictions for the next nintendo console:
- it will be a cloud only device and it will only work with an internet connection
- they will no longer sell physical media
- they will offer some bullshit for sale like "amiibo cards" as replacement for physical games
- the console will be cheap, but it will be a significantly inferior product compared to the switch
- it won't be backwards compatible but they will offer a "subscription" where you can buy/rent cloud-based switch games
- the latency for online games will be just as bad as it is now if not worse due to overcrowded servers
those are my biggest concerns regarding nintendo's direction. like it or not nintendo has a lot more similarities to apple than any of their fans want to admit.
Man with these PC handhelds, I don’t know if I want a switch 2 at this point. There’s titles enough to last a lifetime and emulation.
I mean, you get Nintendo hardware to play Nintendo exclusives. The next Switch is certainly not going to be €600+, they know what they're doing.
@@t.fernbach602 They’ll have to do something really good. Even the exclusives are becoming repeats.
Wondering what software you use for 3ds emulation. Because I've tried Citra and it runs crappy.. emulation is a hassle... Not for casuals.
My money is on them bringing back 3D!!! 💯💯💯
If Nintendo doesn't make Switch 2 backward compatible then I will NEVER purchase another product from them ever again.
I just hope that we can finally play call of duty on it lol
Jim Ryan could say 160 mil but there’s no proof 🤷🏻♂️
I just want better performance and backwards compatibility
no more defective consoles please.
Getting annoying.
Damn 😂😂😂😂
Yeah my lil guy got my right joycon loosy goosy.
Maybe don't let people play your Switch if they aren't gonna respect it and treat it nicely?
For that reason I'm the only one allowed to use mine.
@@dylanarthur5526 How was I to know he’d hold it with only one hand?
@@EPS5000 I just assume by default that nobody will respect my electronics.
sequels never sell as good
Is it going to be a home console like the Wii or still a Hybrid i can see them doing both a pro home console and a 1080p OLED hybrid to replace the switch it would also act like the PS Portal for the home console.
Yes it will. Just like the PS2 bested the PS1.
I’ll wait until 2026/27 when the OLED version drops.
Do you think the switch 2 will let you get xbox app, ps5 app, and steam app?
It’s just a different color what I care about is more storage then csre about the color gold the next Nintendo console won’t be called Switch that name won’t exist the only console that goes by numbers is PlayStation I will see a PS6 in 2027
why everybody talking about switch 2 like its confirmed to release in about a month?its not even sure if they will release this coming march 2025🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Yes they can. It's simple. Double its processing power, Switch compatible, and for the love of Zeus, replace those god-awful Joycons!!
I do love the Nintendo Switch 😊
I really hope they are not choosing a stupid name like Switch U 😅 - In my opinion Switch 2 like Playstation 2 would be perfect and logical for parents - alternatively I can imagine Switch PRO of Super Switch Entertainment System. 😆
Appart from that I can Imagine that the new lineup could be Switch light, switch oled and Switch 2 to make sure that the Switch will keep selling enough units to become the best selling console of all time or maybe just the Switch light and Switch 2 let's see
I'm all alone in the comments with the bots 😅
It's dangerous to go alone, here take this 🗡
I’m here as well. Playing my oled switch ⚔️
Beep bop boo beep 🤖
People who say first arent first cause the bots are always first lol
AUTOBOTS GET HIM!!!
😂
I'm still playing wii U, what is this?
I just want good hardware and backward compatibility
As many developers said the future is for nintendo😶🌫️
Lets be honest, as long as it has Pokémon Mario and Zelda it will be successful.
EZ answer yes
They can live up to the switch by making the switch 2 shit 😂
Nothing called 'Switch 2' exists
