Hello everyone! Please check out this short video explaining what happened with this build. I appreciate all of the interest in this video! ua-cam.com/video/eMCO37j26Ho/v-deo.html
The long distance from your hitch to the axel will make backing a dream! I would be cautious with the weight though, some boat trailers aren’t rated very heavy.
You screwed your floor down before running plumbing and wiring. You didn't put a waterproof membrane underneath to protect the plywood from the moisture. And the big thing is your probably haven't considered the weight limit of the small trailer. I kinda think you realize this which is why there is no more videos on this project.
A couple of issues I noticed in the build so far. You used a cut off wheel to remove the eyebolt, but never painted over the fresh steel. Also you were drilling right through the upper flange of a C Channel frame. This will weaken the frame greatly.
I do not understand why you would build this so so heavy and you did not undercoat or paint the bottom, 2 by 2's would have been good you have the steel structural support underneath so heavy over kill. You added so much weight that you did not need.
There’s no way that axle and frame can handle a camper of that size make sure you get a video of you going down the road and your axle brakes in half in a camper scattered all over the interstate
I was really disappointed to see there wasn’t a follow up video. But you know, people have catastrophes every day and this guy could’ve been a victim. Hopefully not.
Physics works the same in the US as it does in the UK. Looking at that deck, he needs another axel and electric brakes. Unless he's just planning on pitching a tent on the deck.
Since the Corvid has struck, it maybe that is why there is no other videos on this build. An update of why there are no other videos would be the right thing to do, given that this was turning out to be one of the best trailer builds on UA-cam. We Want More! Ha Ha. Please, please please! Thank you for this one. Love from NW Colorado. Thanxz
I wouldn't use fg insulation. I would use foam and some venting, because you will get moisture in that space eventually and it will not be able to get out and start rotting the wood. Today's pressure treated lumber is not as good as it was before they phased out CCA. Also, FG insulation will become a place for rodents to get in if you fail to seal every tiny hole. The bastards will get in there and tunnel in nests while filling it with mouse turds.
Hey Downtown, this guy puts up 1 video 3 months ago and has 132 subscribers and nearly 5,000 views. Took me 50 videos and a year to get that much notice. What's his secret?
There were 16 minutes I can never get back. I think I would retitle this as "How NOT to Build....". I think everything was wrong with this including the use of the drill as a hammer.
elastomeric paint--It's what I'm putting on mine-- Henry 587 Dura-Brite 0.90 Gal. White 100% Acrylic Reflective Elastomeric Roof Coating at Home Depot for $25/can
AWESOME! Only one axle? If you were to upgrade your suspension you could probably haul heavy equipment just by putting some metal skin on all that lumber. Probably haul a backhoe or a skidster! What size truck you use for a hauler?
I rebuilt a Starcraft Starmaster 1906 XLT and ended up having to replace the original axle with a 3500 LBS axle. Ultimately I decided to add electric brakes and had to go from 12" wheels to 14" wheels and increasing the capacity of the springs from 1750 LBS to the next size up and cutting some of the unnecessary frame away from the wheel wells to gain more clearance and to help prevent the new 14" wheels from hitting the wheel wells going over the pot holes on the highway...
Making a trailer for my snowmobile the back end I'll just use 2X4s so it will be flush for driving onto. This is the second one did about the same but not the 2X6 which leaves your deck with a nice lip around the edge. I use a shore-lander trailer works like a charm.
Interesting video. I like the way that the impact driver and tape measure doubles up as a hammer. nice strong structure but a little worried about how heavy it will be
Pretty cool conversion. You've inspired me to convert my extra boat trailer. But was curious about, being the good country boy that you are, 😁😁😁, why didn't you use a B.F.H. to pound in the 2 X 4 cross members? 🤣🤣🤣 And being the good country boy that you are, was glad to see you use up scrap ply as all of us country folk do instead of just going & buying all new. 👍👍👍 Great decking instructions!
Unfortunately an ill-considered plan; a lack of moisture protection, trailer and floor construction will seriously limit the lifespan. Shame about all the effort.
@@iwantosavemoney When a trailer is rated for a certain weight, it's the axle, leaf springs and tires that are being rated. All 3 of those things can be upgraded. I believe that is what John Shader was referring to.

Just watched this video and went looking for the second. Feel like I just found out there is only one season of Firefly all over again.
Lol same! 😂
Well, he’s got a really nicely insulated mobile deck anyways... maybe I’ll check Craigslist to see if it’s for sale, lol
Yep..😑
I'd watch a reboot if they get good writers
Take me out to the black... tell the DIY trailer man to come back, I need to build my serenity...
Where have you gone I would love to see the rest of the trailer :)
That floor is sooooo heavy and you put zero weather proofing underneath it.
He says at beginning that it is pressure treated
I think the builder realized his trailer wouldn't hold the weight, You would need another axle for something this big!
My first question trailer LOAD RATING
Yeah and he is framing it like a house! Way too much weight!
What would you use instead?
@@dottyjyoung aluminum and fiberglass.
Maybe he's just gonna throw a tent on that deck🤷♂️

Well well aren't you a little ray of pitch black? You are probably right though. Should have electric brakes too.
Lmao Larry bruh 😂😂😂😂
Looks more like you're building a tiny house than a camper. You're gonna need that superduty to pull it. Should be sturdy at least.
Not on a boat trailer.
I was really disappointed to see there wasn’t a follow up video.
But you know, people have catastrophes every day and this guy could’ve been a victim.
Hopefully not.
WAY overbuilt.
Especially since it's pretty clear that it was just a deck built on a trailer with no follow-up.
That TRL only supports HOW MUCH WEIGHT ?
Wish I had a Camper
Looking good so far. Keep those videos coming.
Where are you? It’s been 9 months! Lol. We wanna see the whole camper. Lol
Don't you need brakes on trailers in the USA? Here in the UK, anything over 750kg needs them.
Physics works the same in the US as it does in the UK. Looking at that deck, he needs another axel and electric brakes. Unless he's just planning on pitching a tent on the deck.
no cover underneath. should use aluminum or metal sheets to cover your baseboard. You gotten get mold and rotten wood quick

What is that boat trailer rated at? That looks like a heavy floor.
You might want to add more leaf springs to that axle with all that weight
Check out the Stodoys plans if you want to make it better.
First Video impressed me, waiting with jumping Heart for the next part, greetings from Austria
Volume is to low. Maybe get another microphone.
Covid must have got him. RIP!
I like the bud light cans, lol. good stuff. I have an old boat trailer that I'm thinking to use. subscribing!
Awesome! Are you working on the next video?
Same here I wanna see how this turns out, when is the next build video?
Where’s the bloody rest of it???
Been working on it recently? Super excited to see how this build goes.
Also noticed my previous comment went away.
Anyway hope all is well

You are going to need a 'marine grade' primer to weather seal that wood.

Keep in mind that boat trailer is only designed to hold about 1200 pounds my friend.
I could be mistaken, but I believe it's the axle that is rated at about 1200 pounds. The frame should be able to take a lot more.
