Episode #10 is finally here. In this video I'll show you how I finished the exterior trim on Eddie. Lots of DIY tips are included in the video. A custom trailer requires a custom door. I go step by step on how I created a bespoke door for Eddie.

This is an awesome build! love the workmanship. You're going to have a camper that will last and give you many years of enjoyment!
Thanks Joel
Did not have the opportunity to see the trailer build. Fortunately have got around twenty years in welding and during that time got the experience to actually build wheels and frames for a twenty by five U-haul. From bottom up of frame and electrical work, so have the root knowledge of trailer building and your build will most likely be near my last projects in my life-time, since I'm unfortunately 71 now. If when I had the tools could now save a bit of economics, so welding and carpentry skills my little brother showed and taught me will save me some economics but the solar array learnt just recently. Thank you "Eddie," for all your ideals and definitely the video shots. As Bill and Ted would say, "EXCELLENT!"
There’s something about this that’s aesthetically pleasing to watch!
Glad I seen your videos because I was thinking about building me one but after seeing the right way of doing it I think I will just buy one and build from it.
it´s crazy how mutch you can learn by watching this series ! i wouldn´t be surprised if the SUV was also builded , by you , from scratch , Scott ! with this series , you beamed me up :D
Thank you very much!
This is a very good Travel Trailer show and we love it !
Wow looking very nice 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks a lot
Great video Scott
Great Job !!!!
Love your work very creative 👏 👌 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
great build, I am curious as to why you used plywood on the floor instead of sheet metal with an auto uncoating on it?
It is coming along very nicely. Great Job!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice job Scott. Very sharp. I see you have utilized the SJ style of door latch - a locking deadbolt (but yours doesn't have a key sitting in there lol). I guess you just have to push the lock button to latch it on exit (or turn the thumb thing when inside). I figured a conventional latch would be more suitable for the regular in and out, then use the dead bolt to lock up at night. Having to put in a code every time you open the door from the outside when camping, on crown land with nobody around, that would be annoying to some. (unless you are putting a hydraulic closer on the door so it automatically pulls shut) We'll have to stay tuned to find out. Love the larger wheels, great clearance.
I’d be tempted to 3D print a spacer to fill the window gaps. They design could be split across several prints then assembled and installed as a complete spacer. Material wise I’d use ASA for a combination of strength and UV resistance.
God bless!Awesome job!
Well Don I love it ❤️
This is great and I am getting a lot of inspiration. It's easy to sit back and knit pick someone elses work but Another criticism: Whats gonna stop water from migrating in to the screw holes between your trim and rubber membrane? You should use screws designed to keep liquid out that have rubber grommets. I think you should have went with a door handle system that activates a latch so that you can keep your door closed with out the deadbolt. I'm sure you figured that out eventually
Grate video Scot good job on the trailer your a very good crafsman you will no doubt have years of Grate use.
Thank you
also you should have used Tyvek on the outside and inside another your walls, floor and ceiling, 1/4" isn't much and makes huge difference, spray in foam between the studs inside the walls, cover that and paint it, also you can use Z strip for an air gap on the inside for some serious insulation, might not seem important but not only is it a good sound dampener/proofer, it insulates on hot days and cold days, so you use less energy to cool or heat.. yessir
you should do this for a living or a side job you are very good at it wish i could.
Can you post price on it too! Love it!
Did you ever think of painting on a can of clear coat bed liner to the roof? It would give it some extra protection and durability!?! The white does reflect heat. Just an idea! 😊
Isn't it a pvc roof...?
Stout and clean looking, might've inspired me to build something with one of my spare trailers. Tire load capacity is really the only variable I haven't learned from you, with your five lugs I imagine it's at least 2000 lb each?
The 4inch trim with the washers behind it. In theory it sounds good, however what about ice? Tae that camper out in winter, snow and ice will get in there. Ice will damage that correct?
Nice build. Is there a reason for not insulating the floor? I'm guessing you'll do the walls and ceiling when you do the interior.
That is correct
Hey man I saw UA-cam video Very nice work I was just wondering how much it cost you to do all of that work I know you put a lot of hours into it We're just wondering💯👍🏾👌🏾
that will be a future video.
What is the trailer weighing as of exterior finish? And weight finished? Nice work. Thanks
Hey man ! I love the work you did. I am also from windsor and I been building my trailer for 3 years now. I got all my metals from windsor metals too but where did you get the aluminum floor ? Also I have a ton of questions about the build
the aluminum for the floor also came from windsor metal.
Why did you use such a thin sheet for the door. Might as well have gotten a fiberglass door. It would have been stronger. Think of a HD Surfboard could have placed FRP betwwen 2 HiDens FOAM panels.
when project managers decide to build an RV...
What about the large gap around the door
*How has the rain been treating it?*
no leaks yet.
Make sure that you leave access for the door hinge fasteners. When the door sags or expands/contracts, that will allow you to adjust the fitment in the frame.
this video is a year old ,please show video on how you removed the black mold, thanks
Is there a tendency for the sheet metal subfloor to condense moisture and store it when the outside temperature is cooler than the indoor? Then the plywood would stay wet for a very long time.
I don’t believe that will be an issue.
Eddie , you were doing SO good until you started using wood for the framing . Son , I hate to tell you this but it will shake apart in no time . Been there done this ! The best thing to do now , sell it !!!!!!!!!!!!
Learn to appreciate and build to something great never look down on a small opportunity before metals were wood
why is silent Bob talking?
a
💰💰💰Around how much would you say you spent on materials? Thanks in advance Keep up the Great Hard Work! 💯💯💯💯✅😀
Always build like you are roofing a house. Nothing to catch and hold water. Everything is overlapped to shed water. Almost every trailer build i see on YTube the builder fails to remember this at some point.
I love the look of this trailer your attention to detail is impressive. Great job.🙂🇨🇦👍
Thank you very much!
I like the selection of wheels and tires. That's one thing I've wanted to upgrade on for my 20' trailer. Aluminum rims and these are light truck tires? They look tough
My wife walked in...
Wife: what's he building?
Me: he was making a trailer. Now, not sure.
2min later
Wife walks by again
Wife: he still building?
Me: Yep
Wife: any ideas?
Me: nope
Both: oh!
Me: it's a board to gauge his loneliness.
Wife: Or his willingness to ask for help.
Me: I see that, been there.
Btw, aircraft latches are lifesavers for flush fitting door handles.
I like it.
Very interesting project you have here. How come you didn't use any 3m VHB tape and silicone?
Why are you not using any sealant any where on your seams and holes. It's going to leak, especially when a windy rain or driving down highway.
il contatto tra il ferro e alluminio possono dar luogo a correnti galvaniche, con il rischio di dar luogo a spiacevoli inconvenienti di corrosione nei punti di contatto.
Great! This is a very nice project and thanks for sharing. Since I am the secretary of building stuff, I can't control my urge to build one for myself. What was the closest $$ estimate of your project cost at that time.
Why are you adding extra weight on the trailer by using 2x4,s ?
You put so much time and effort in this trailer to make solid and water tight. But I think you failed on the roof. It is going to need constant maintenance. Other than that super nice trailer
I have a dream... that someone could invent a lightweight hardsided camper that collapses. I hate the fabric pop up campers! Why can't the walls be of solid material and collapse????? Lightweight and transportable/removeable, no affixed to a trailer, but can attach to any trailer...??? Light enough for a small 4 CYL car to put on a trailer and haul...? What materials would one need to build this dream camper? Basically a shell, but two walls have lightweight windows in them? ?? ???? anybody??? Buehler???Where are my great minded inventor people AT!???
Apache hard side pop up camper from the 1970's.
already look better made than the trash put out by most manufacturers.
Pretty inspiring. Nice work. I love the little interludes in which you explain some of your design or build logic. It is much more useful and instructive than just running the camera. Keep up the great work.
Just out of curiosity, For a one off project like this, where does one purchase sheet aluminum and black diamond plate cost-effectively?
I had to do some research in my area. There was only one company that sold it. Unfortunately the price almost tripled during Covid.
I might have missed it how heavy is the final camper? ty
If you sold plans for this build i would very much want to build one
Nice video on a great builder small little trailer used to get a lot of use out of it
Notice you are very careful with membrene.
I had to stop watching when a pop up add for gut health intruded upon my life for a dang hour! I had it listen to five minutes of it from my shower before I could kill it. 😉
Do you have a video on how you installed the insulation?
I saw in a previous episode that you laid aluminum on top of steel, arent you worried about corrosion because two different metals are touching?
very good!
You have never shown the in side on any videos !!!!
At first, I was like "Hey, I cd pick up a few tips from this build." Then I was like "This guy could use some help."
A door and frame from salvage camper, modified to be wider and complete with recessed hardware and all the mouldings to keep water out would be a good way to go. Otherwise, great job 👍
2:37 => Starring Silent Bob :D
Someone can break in by tapping the hinge pins out of the hinges.
a series without episode numbers in the title
You remind me of myself. Everything alone and a workaholic.
My next comment , how the hell did you get away with this ??Without the city fathers jumping all over you ass for building this outside ????????
2:40 dude looks just like silent bob!
You can't buy a camper with that kind of quality.... Nice job!
Just found your channel. Looks like a great build. Will need to check out more. Nice design elements with the black diamond plate and aluminum sheeting
Where did you get the awesome keypad deadbolt door lock at?
Home Depot
How do you title, license and insure a self-built trailer?
That will be in a future video.
I hope when you used washers to hold roof edge trim back for water flow that you sealed around the screws to keep the water from getting in that area.
Coming along great! Also, very impressive / well thought out design and improve. 👍✅
хороший трейлер...отличная работа!!!
What would you say it cost you
The materials for this build must have been pricey. Great work though.
This build has been so fun to watch. Can't wait to see how the interior and the other systems are installed.
Thank you
Dude that's awesome
your neighbor did a really good job backing in...cool trailer by the way
Good job brother bestrong
Love it… great job…. I think I missed where you purchased windows and aluminum….. thanks… Don
This is coming out so incredibly man seriously
I would be skeptical of all of the external screws you are putting into this build...I know you put a lot of things underneath them, but water will find its way in somehow and eventually rust those screws out. I have been looking for a trailer company that doesn't have external screws. BUT it is looking really sharp so far!!
Love the build. Lumber has a mind of its own. If you ever need to re-build the door due to warpage, etc. You can do the same build but use LVL’s for the lumber. Or weld up thin steel. Steel isn’t hard to learn to weld for someone with your diy skills. If you plan to pay for it, go with aluminum.
Agreed
I wonder how sheet vinyl flooring you can buy off a roll at hardware stores would make a great roof covering? Certainly be thick enough, and holds up to foot traffic, but sun might be hard on it. I suppose some roof white would help for sun damage.
As watching you do the door I think I would have had the top alum part come out over the edge so when it rains the water doesn't get inside to rot the wood.
How effective has the door been at keeping out dirt, dust, and moisture while on the road? While the door build is brilliant, it's not entirely obvious how it seals out the elements.
Don't understand how you sealed the door for draft and wind/water/cold protection. Don't see any lip or rubber that would provide an air tight seal when closed.
AWESOME GREAT JOB BOY.
What are the rv door trim called? Mine are all bent and seem to be made of aluminum, but I'm not sure what to order or if it's possible to order it? Thanks in advance!
Eddie is looking great.
Thanks
Hi Friend, I have built two Trimarans (Multihull) and both, for the most part, solo, and I can't think of anything better than Joel Tremblay's comment. Very nice Job.
You are a professional! I went out and bought a used RV. THE AMT of work you put into this AND THOUGHT, Is staggering. Well done.
Wow, thank you!
Bravo !
How much would it be for you to build me one cost affordable my budget is between 400 to 500 and deliver it
Just got fed this video. Obviously a year late. Did I miss the insulation being added to the door?
What kinds hinges did you use? Also what it that cap you use at 22:00 called? If you got it on Anazon can you post a link please?
Looks awesome 👍😎
Thanks
