Geddy Lee of Rush recently talked about the last days of Neil Peart... He said the drummer was diagnosed in 2016 w/ cancer (Peart passed away in 2020) and he spent his final days listening to all the Rush records he had written and recorded ... He was analyzing his own work w/ the band and shared w/ Lee and Alex Lifeson how proud he was of the music they had created w/ Rush. Peart apparently spent his last days as a husband to his 2nd wife and father to his little daughter... Lee said he was just happy being a librarian in his spare time since reading books was his passion outside of music.
Absolutely brilliant man all around. Several years ago I turned my daughter (14 at the time) on to Rush and explained some about them. She immediately “got it” and pillaged many of my Rush CDs. (Hemispheres is her fav.) When we lost Mr Peart, she literally cried for 2 days. If you don’t “get it,” that’s ok I guess, but if you “get it,” it’s something only other true Rush fans will understand.
A career of creativity, an adventure, and a life. He certainly left an enduring positive impression with each, and I’m glad he looked back, and knew it to be so.
@@raymondrochajr9621 Actual “cause of death” was brain cancer. I think all 3 of them smoked back in the day (70’s) including some less than legal stuff, but to my knowledge they had all given it up and Mr Pearts cancer was just random and unfortunate.

@@brodyu.s.2254 Hey genius, almost 5000 children have been slaughtered in the name of Israel and genocide. But I know you already know this. "To the river to the sea, Palestine will be free." Get on the right side of history you POS. And have a nice day.
The last song on the legendary Moving Pictures, I always feel this gets overlooked among Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta, YYZ and Limelight, but this is such killer song and I always loved when they played it live. You mentioned the different sounds of this song, including reggae. Rush was feeling influences from the Police at this time and that would carry over into their next album, Signals. Great reaction.
I originally had a hard time getting into this song, and when I heard all the big changes to their music with the next album ("Signals"), it seemed like this song was a sort of harbinger of things to come. More emphasis on synths and less on guitar, which would last through most of the 80s. But in time, I came to appreciate all of it - Vital Signs, as well as the next couple of albums. What helped a LOT was their (IMHO) return to exciting music with Power Windows, and the beginning of the return to guitars at the forefront (although the synths would still be a major component of their music for the decade.
It was a lot more than just the Police. Like a lot of bands that lasted past the 70s, they (especially Geddy) were intrigued by the exciting sounds they could get from synths, and were eager to explore it.
The great thing about Rush is that there is nothing simple in their music, their complexity IS the reason to listen, to be challenged, and eventually awed. ✌️
"Witch Hunt" off of this album is a very dark, foreboding song. It is very relevant song today. As for "Vital Signs", you can really hear the growl out of Geddy's bass.
That's because classic rock radio usually only plays a bands charted hits. I remember when "Moving Pictures" first came out though, AOR stations played this track often...
This was a treat. As a teenager I discovered Rush during their synth period, but the album I discovered was 2112. I bought their albums in no particular order, so I was being exposed to their early, pure rock period, their heavy prog period and their synth period all at once. It was like falling in love with three different bands. And when I finally had all the albums and could appreciate their work more fully -- all the places they had taken me, all the experiments they conducted, all the elements they pulled together -- I felt like there was no one else like them. Rush took a lot of risks. They even bet their careers on some of their high concept music. I'm sure they would have been successful playing three minute songs about women and cars, but they refused to compromise their visions. In the end they found unique and genuine sound and a loyal audience. That's something to admire! I love watching you discover them. Thank you for sharing that.
I did the same. My older sister had me listen to Moving Pictures and I was hooked. I got Archives for Christmas and saved up my allowance to collect their back catalog starting with Hemispheres. I coaxed my older brother to give me his copy of 2112!
This is one of my favorite songs . Rush is one of my all time favorite bands They are prog rock and were inspired heavily by the band YES. They were once known as rock of the nerds and book worms. Probably because they are all geniuses.
This was the last song they wrote for the album, yet it sounds so much like SIGNALS, the album that came after. They already knew what direction they wanted to take their music in next.
I never stood a chance to even remotely dislike Rush because the band consists of my absolute favorite drummer/lyricist, my absolute favorite guitar player, and my absolute favorite bass player/synth player/vocalist.
As a music fan of many genres, I really appreciate Rob Squad showing that they are really listening and understanding why we love all these bands with their reaction. "WE HAVE ASSUMED CONTROL " ( for the band that is literal) after 2112 came out the record company gave the band full control, and accepted every album as it was given to then.....Not changing ANYTHING.
You know, if you ignore the racist, selfish, juvenile Ayn Randian philosophy of "fuck you, I got mine" that Neil was into in his early 20's and embraced throughout the 70's....
@arielpena6564, Nice suggestion to listen to side 1 AKA "suite" of 2112 LP. Accept your last bit of advice of "at least" listen to the first 3 parts of it. You can't do that, it's all or nothing in order to get the full energy vibe & affect of side 1 on 2112. Not to mention it's just wrong seeing as though side 1 is really one complete song altogether. So why would you only listen to half of the song & stop, right? "I know it's most unusual. To come before you so. But I found an ancient miracle I thought that you should know. Listen to my music & hear what it can do. There's something here as strong as life. I know that it will reach you." Just saying... 🤘😜🤘 +Peace & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Soul My Friend+

The best thing about Rush is the more you listen to a song, the better it gets! You cannot possibly absorb all the subtleties and messaging in the one hearing. Rush is timeless like classical music!
You two are blown away as I always was how only 3 guys can pound out such cool music and perform it seamlessly live!! Truly amazing....... Now No one can ever replace Rush, butThere is another newer band that idolized Rush and have some material that reminds me of Rush! BUT it is ONLY a 2 member group!! And another powerful song with indigenous meaning is End of the Road Yes give Crownlands a listen 2 guys that will blow you away!!🎉🎉😊
Fun fact: Rush used to have a fake New Wave persona band that they used to jam as - they called themselves “The Fabulous Men”. Well one of the “FM” jam sessions ended up inspiring this very track! Just goes to show you, always take time to have fun - you never know where your inspiration may come from. I absolutely love this track! ❤
I absolutely love RUSH. Their big hits are wonderful, but they really hit the deeper you get into their albums. Please give "Afterimage" a listen. It's a very good song!
You have to listen to a new Rush song 6 times in a row and focus on the individual parts. First just listen to the song. Secondly, listen to the lyrics. Thirdly, listen to the guitar parts. Then listen to the bass. Then listen again to focus on the drumming. And finally, the keys/synths.
Rush's album Grace Under Pressure had the biggest impact on me. I was in the military when it came out and it spoke to a lot of things going on then. The song 'The Spirit of Radio' from the album Permanent Waves was on my alarm clock and something I woke up to every morning for years. Lyrics: "Begin the day With a friendly voice A companion, unobtrusive Plays the song that’s so elusive And the magic music makes your morning mood Off on your way Hit the open road There is magic at your fingers For the Spirit ever lingers Undemanding contact In your happy solitude."
My favorite song of Moving Pictures. Kind of forgotten because all the hits that came from that album. plus, I love that Neil peart is wearing a Montreal Expos cap in the video. The album was recorded in Morin-Heights Studio in the Laurentian's ( Québec).
Just listened to an interview with producer Terry Brown on the Rush FanCast/Podcast, who produced this track/album, along with over 10 of the other Rush studio, live and remastered releases and he had some great memories from these recording sessions. Right there with one of my favorite closing tracks. Geddys new book was just released and he has a new docu series on Paramount+ in December where he interviews other bass players. Love seeing these guys still out there and being recognized for the brilliance as musicians, but also just good people.
RUSH was the equivalent of a gateway drug for me into both Prog Rock and eventually metal in the mid 80s. One of the most talented and creative bands of all time, IMO. Each member a great musician, and their lyrics are unrivaled. My first reaction video of yours and I immediately subscribed. My 73 year-old rocker mother actually turned me onto your channel. She gave me my love for music. I'm about to binge on your reactions now. Thank you.
Rush is the greatest band ever. This song was inspired by their Fabulous Men side band they had in the studio while waiting for the producers in the recording studio.
In a recent interview with Geddy Lee the interviewer said he always plays a song of the band he interviews. He asked Geddy what song he wanted him to play and Geddy chose Headlong Flight. I beg of you to react to that song, it’s an absolute monster of a banger off of their last album. If not for me, for Geddy 🫤
Ahhhhh... Rush pretended like they were a completely different band in a different genre to stir the creativity juices, and this was one of those songs that came out.
I had the honor of seeing them three times in concert, once in Tulsa and twice in Oklahoma City. They were just awesome beyond words in concert. Three songs of theirs you need to react to are Mystic Rhythms, possibly the most mellow song they ever did, Roll the Bones, containing the only rap they ever did, and The Garden, the last song on the last album, which is possibly the best, deepest song they ever made. [Comment edited to correct autocorrect.]
The device strapped to Neil in this video is a special recording device. The drum kit was not mic’ed up for a traditional recording. This device would not not record the sticks hitting the drums and cymbals but not record the resonance from inside the drum. That’s why the drum hits sound so crisp.
The guitar work in the first 2 verses are so cool and perfect. He’s playing on the beat for 4 beats, then he plays on the OFF beat for 4 beats. Very simple and subtle but so effective!
Jay and Amber Always Love when you react to my Favorite band Rush. Please react to "Natural Science" my favorite song they played in live. Mind blowing song. 'Jacobs Ladder", "Witch Hunt", "Function and Form". "Everybody got to Elevate from the Norm" Rest in Peace Neil Ellwood Peart. Brillant lyricist and drummer. Geddy is touring the US right now doing spoken word of is memoir book call "My Effin Life", On Sunday Nov. 19th, Geddy was in Cleavland Ohio. Where the first Rush song 'Working Man was played on the radio at the Station WMMS 100.7 by DJ Donna Halper in March of 1974. Donna was the special guest on stage with Geddy. What a full circle moment to witness almost fifty years later.
AHHhhhh... "Vital Signs"... the quintessential RUSH offering of AWESOMELY SONG WRITING & LYRICS, wrapped up in the reggae feel/progressive rock (did you both catch the time signature changes/song's tempo changes throughout this course of instruction??? OF COURSE Y'ALL DID!!!!). Now, THAT ALONE is GREAT MUSICAL TALENT. BUT, to take a mundane concept of what it means to be human & of HUMANITY, weave such MAGIC from it, & make it SOUND like a organic feeling... SUCH A GREAT CONCEPTUAL Artistic experience. Love is the GREATEST OF ALL THINGS in life (The Beatles wrote it... ALL you need is LOVE!!!). I look forward to seeing your reactions... Keep doin' YOU... Peace, Love, & Liberty. MIC DROP 🎤.
They really laid into the reggae vibe that that hinted at on the previous LP on this track. For a certified blues nut like Alex to pull off these skanky riffs is really quite amazing. Then the slow burn outro bringing in the keys and Pearts freak outs. Unique
It's so much fun watching people react to the band that I've been listening to since 1982😊 please please PLEASE react to "The analog kid" Incredible musicianship, soaring vocals, and a great story all wrapped up together....an absolute treat for the ears! You won't be disappointed!!
I was lucky to see them on their Time Machine tour when they performed the entire Moving Pictures album from start to finish. That was (I think) the 30th anniversary of the album and they still sounded absolutely amazing.
Song is an amazing finish to one of the greatest rock albums of all time... geddy's vocal fadeout to end the song, and ultimately the album, is so fitting and unreal!!
Always great to see your reaction to the greatest band of all time. Now you MUST listen to Xanadu, Jacob's Ladder, Manhattan Project, Natural Science. The list goes on!
Neil Peart, the drummer was a genius (literally), and the main lyricist for all these songs! If you haven’t listened to it yet, try La Villa Strangiato, probably one of their best instrumentals
What a powerful and intense last 60 seconds. Wow! I overlooked this gem at the time because I was all about the New Wave bands on MTV, and basically any band from Britain.
I watch many react vid channels but you guys are always my favorites! It’s very cool that you completely “get” Rush. Here’s one you’ve GOT to check out and I don’t think any of my peers would disagree. Natural Science from the Permanent Waves album 1980. The album just prior to Moving Pictures 1981 which Vital Signs was on. C’mon folks. You just GOTTA check that one out! Peace and be safe. Thanks (and btw, a live version would be fantastic, but for your first time hearing it, I recommend a version with the lyrics to follow- deep stuff…)

Great album put headphones on smoke fatty and my mind goes by by vacation lol every song on 2112 phenomenal
@@216Numbskull Point well taken, I just haven't seen them react to something that long, although once you start listening to side 1 you're mesmerized until the very end.
Peace friend 🎸
The best thing about Rush is the more you listen to a song, the better it gets! You cannot possibly absorb all the subtleties and messaging in the one hearing. Rush is timeless like classical music!
Rush - Entre Nous
Dixie Dregs - Road Expense
Cocteau Twins - Lorelei
Bryan Ferry - Don’t Stop the Dance
XTC - Sensed Working Overtime
On addition to being the G.O.A.T. drummer, remember Neil was the primary lyricist for Rush.
And BTW……..Neil was KILLING IT on the drum kit.
Always!
They are called Crownlands check out: Context: Fearless Pt. 1
The video is really cool too! Close your eyes and you will think it's new Rush material! And another powerful song with indigenous meaning is End of the Road
Yes give Crownlands a listen 2 guys that will blow you away!!🎉🎉😊
Fun fact: Rush used to have a fake New Wave persona band that they used to jam as - they called themselves “The Fabulous Men”. Well one of the “FM” jam sessions ended up inspiring this very track! Just goes to show you, always take time to have fun - you never know where your inspiration may come from. I absolutely love this track! ❤
One of the best shows ever was Rush doing Moving Pictures live at Jones Beach amphitheater ❤❤
1981 Maple Leaf Gardens Toronto for me
I absolutely love RUSH.
Lyrics:
"Begin the day With a friendly voice
A companion, unobtrusive
Plays the song that’s so elusive
And the magic music makes your morning mood
Off on your way
Hit the open road
There is magic at your fingers
For the Spirit ever lingers
Undemanding contact
In your happy solitude."
Where else had a professor Niel Pert on drums
Neil Peart is a whole percussion section wrapped up in one person. And he wrote some deep lyrics as well. High level talent.
One of the very few bands where i have liked everything i have heard from them so far
There has never been a bad Rush sing or album.they are was the best live act ever..RIP Neil
"Mystic Rhythms"
@@MetalMcfly, I assure you, that was what I typed, but auto correct, well...
She gets it!
I don't see how anyone wouldn't like Rush but that's what makes the world go round.
The device strapped to Neil in this video is a special recording device. The drum kit was not mic’ed up for a traditional recording. This device would not not record the sticks hitting the drums and cymbals but not record the resonance from inside the drum. That’s why the drum hits sound so crisp.
You should react to this whole album! All the songs are FIRE!!!
The guitar work in the first 2 verses are so cool and perfect. He’s playing on the beat for 4 beats, then he plays on the OFF beat for 4 beats. Very simple and subtle but so effective!
…..my favorite 80’s Rush track ❤️🎸🔥
70’s Rush will always be my true ❤ I’m happy that Amber listens to the lyrics ❤️
Never trust a rocker that didn't go through a Rush phase. I'm a drummer that bows to the god that is Rush.
As always, the genius lyricist/percussionist AKA "The professor". RIP Neil.
MIC DROP 🎤.
The closing song off of probably their best album. The album is considered a classic, and this song ends it on a high note.
HURRAY , so glad you got to this one , my fave RUSH song and amazing lyrics
Farcry and The Garden are some of their best songs. Please check them out
WHAT A GREAT SONG!!! RUSH FOREVER!!!🥁☮☘
They really laid into the reggae vibe that that hinted at on the previous LP on this track. For a certified blues nut like Alex to pull off these skanky riffs is really quite amazing. Then the slow burn outro bringing in the keys and Pearts freak outs. Unique
Yes, they admired and were influenced by The Police around that time.
one of Geddy's best bass tracks
It's so much fun watching people react to the band that I've been listening to since 1982😊 please please PLEASE react to "The analog kid" Incredible musicianship, soaring vocals, and a great story all wrapped up together....an absolute treat for the ears! You won't be disappointed!!
thank y'all so much for playing this, I remember when it first came out in the 80s one of my favorite songs. Rush = Awesome
WOOOOHOOOOOO: RUSH!!! 💥
Saw them in the 70's after their second album. FIRE
Great song choice. They embraced reggae and new wave and were always on the cutting edge with working these elements into their music.
Yeah! One of my favorites from my favorite band!
Most of Rush's songs after 2112 were written by Neal Peart. He was a poet at heart and an avid reader... way more talented than most ever appreciated.
YES! Finally!
PS: Rush Rules the World👊🏻
They have assumed total control
From the album Moving Pictures. My personal favourite RUSH album of all time.
