Many VH fans consider this album to be some of Eddie's best work.
I'd agree, this album is unreal.
Best of the Roth era.
That’s because it is. 😎
My favorite VH album.
My favorite album by V.H and Balance close second
This whole album is fantastic
Truth
…and at just over 32 minutes, perfect rockin’ for the morning exercise session 😅
..love them all, Fair Warning is my favorite
Facts..
You guys make my day , love your reactions to the music I grew up with , hope you listen to 'Hear bout it later' next
Michael Anthony’s bass work and backing vocals are so under appreciated.
Got to see VH - DLR & young Wolfgang (incredible) .. and in '79 in Vancouver. They'd just backed up Sabbath in Seattle the night before. Michael's pitch-perfect pipes were best appreciated live. I swear, he was singing with David, but he was singing for the Van Halen's. And when there's one guitar and one bass .. and Eddie has the guitar, not many bassists can rise to that level.
Only by EVH
Make same comment, now reading them, love him with Sammy now. ❤
Not by me! He is at least 1/3 of what VH is.
NUFF SAID ,,, RESPECT ...
Fair warning is an underrated classic
Their best album in my opinion
Huh? Underrated?
? ?
Would love to see a ‘Push Cones to Shove’ reaction, but that’s probably not going to happen.
YES! Probably the best Van Halen song ever. Massive bass line! The entire album is playlist level.
✔YES
That bass buildup at the end is phenomenal!
There's way too many good Roth era VH songs to pick a standout, it's like a Beatles fan picking an all time best song. I'm not sure that's doable, if you asked 10 people you'd most likely get 10 different answers.
Agree
YES!!!!!! Van Halen at it's finest. Eddie killed this!!!!! So seminal!!!!!! Mainly the multi track ending guitar solo. Mikey on bass and Alex on drums keeping the time while Dave delivers. My fave song by Van Halen off all time
Mr. Anthony gets left out of most discussions about top bass players but when you really listen to Van Halen his work is top drawer. (Cliff Williams also always left out of those convos)
Not a bad pick at all. Mine is Unchained.

Here's the tour that was EPIC as well...ua-cam.com/video/kw1yPDidXuo/v-deo.htmlsi=AIX5x3wIBpF5K0BT
This song is one of the big reasons we listened to VH. Keep in mind this was brand new and cutting edge back in the day, we just sat there with our minds blown. Eddie was simply doing stuff that had never been done.
Absolutely, I always picture the DJ’s and the vibe of the radio stations back then! What a way to start your day…
Truer words were never written.
Their best album in my opinion ❤ Gritty and nasty riffs!! Congrats on your VH listening pleasure!!😎💯💯💥💥🤘👌 Keep on rocking!!
Old school Van Halen fan. This album is their best work.
Man, this is a KILLER track!
I agree. I always thought this track should have been on a movie soundtrack! We had a number of crime dramas and tough action films in the 80's this could have worked in.
This has always been my favorite VH album. Everyone was on point this whole album
Fair Warning has a very different vibe from any of the other outings. It's a lot more dark. Perhaps because by this point, Eddie and Roth were so much at odds that they were ready to kill each other. I also think that this album features the best guitar work that Eddie ever gave us.
I think this is true Van Halen fans, top album, and one of their top songs. This is when Eddie, Michael, David, and Alex were young punks and their attitude came out in their music. And this is a perfect example of that. Definitely one of my all-time favorites.
That whole album is awesome! I love early Van Halen. ❣
The Diamond Dave era of Van Halen is unmatched. The band at its absolute best
Thank you, I was JUST about to write the EXACT same thing!
@@seansherrod8725 Yup, I don't see how anyone could write anything else, lol!
Thank you for reacting to this! R.I.P. Eddie. ❤️💜🌟
This album is criminally underrated. This, in my opinion, is the best of an incredible set of early VH albums.
It’s the debut, Fair Warning and 1984. Diver Down and II are nearly great, but the three I mentioned first are all-time, hall of fame guitar rock. As good as it has ever been.
VH 1 was pretty good. I agree though. This was probably their best of the first set.
This is my absolute favorite VH album. It's gritty, dirty and raw!!!!
The whole album is killer
"The Cradle will Rock" is a good song by Van Halen also
I was only ever a casual fan of VH. Only knowing their hits and a couple of others. This track would have and has changed my mind of what they were capable of. This track just rocks. ✌️
Try fools next, awesome song
Fair Warning was a killer album. Not a massive commercial success like their first album or 1984. But it had great hard core gritty tracks on it. This album had “Unchained” on it which you listen to the studio version & “So This Is Love”. You guys need to watch these live videos from 1981. They’re back to back in concert videos. You can see Dave fly & you can definitely feel the pure VH energy!
Underrated classic!
The best Van Halen song, on their best album!
The problem with Van Halen is, every time you listen to another song, it will become your favorite!!
This is easily in my top 5 of favourite Van Halen songs.
This, Runnin' with the Devil, You're No Good, Panama, & Unchained for me - I'll Wait is almost there, along with Feelin', you?
@@VictorRomeo1917 in no particular order Feelin, Mean Streets, Humans Being, Panama, and Right Now. I like all their music, doesn’t matter if it’s Roth or Hagar singing.
The 2 handed tapping intro is something to see . Even if it’s just someone doing a cover . Eddie was ahead of his time
Loved your channel for more than a year . You guys are my favorite reactors .🤘
Tapping wasn't a new thing, but he incorporated in a new way, and had a unique sound and rhythmic approach. If you don't know of him, check out EVH's favorite guitar player/mentor Alan Holdsworth-- possibly the most innovative electric guitar player ever.
This is my favorite Van Halen song, from my favorite Van Halen album. This whole album rocks.
This album was a lot more gritty and heavy than all their other albums. This song, Sinners Swing, the bluesy feel of Push Comes to Shove... the crazy bass lines in Unchained... they were such great songs that kind of went un noticed on the airwaves... Great reaction. 👍
I used to hear this song and Unchained on the radio quite a bit back in the day.
Also when you found the best rock music in music stores, not radio. If you lived in a smaller city, like I did, that was the only way to hear the good stuff
he made sounds on the guitar that nobody made before. He was part of my youth. He was the greatest, I still miss him
Eddie way better than J Page.
Pick any song on this album. You can’t go wrong. My favorite one by far. Thanks for the reaction.
My goodness I love this album.
Something just happened that's never happened before. YOU guys just turned ME onto a VH tune I've never heard before AND IT ROCKS! IDK how I missed this one in my youth. Great reaction guys, and thank you SO much for turning me on to the amazing VH song! ❤
How did you miss this? Bummer it took you this long for this song! Enjoy!
@@robertpagano5739 Thanks Robert! I have no idea how I missed this gem. Blows my mind!
Better late than never.
This is probably my favorite VH Album. It is soooo gritty!
Fair Warning! What an awesome underrated album!!
Simply a fantastic opening track. Perfect tone setter for a strong album.
💯!
Find me a better ‘First track/tone setter’ for an album.
On a par with Runnin’ With The Devil,
& Welcome to the Jungle.
This is one of the most raw sounding VH songs ever. Threw me all the way back to middle school. Ah, the 80's...record stores, camping out for tickets, and Van Halen were the kings!!
One of my favorite VH songs. That and "And The Cradle Will Rock"
Man, the memories! You know you listened to a song or album so much that even after 40 years of not hearing it you can sing word for word, know every guitar and drum part... said it before, say it again.. the 80's had the best music and what a time to grow up...Great choice for a reaction!
Eddie, Alex, Michael and Diamond Dave!
Hell yeah! I'm very grateful to be old enough now to have been a teen in the 80s.
Yep, this was back when Van Halen seriously rocked.
And it is one of their most popular with those of us who go hack to that time, and who bought their first album, dropped that needle and had our minds blown.
Heck Yeah ! the MIGHTY VAN HALEN !
As many have pointed out, everyone raves about Eddie's Leads, but he REALLY shines in his Rhythm work. A great example is in, Cabo Wabo, which is a deep cut from, OU812. 🔥🤘🏽🔥
This is a good one from one of their really good albums. I loved this when it came out. I'm happy I got to see them in both '82 and again in '83 on my 21st. Good times and memories.
I remember when this song first came out we couldn't believe what we were hearing so freaking awesome
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "You Really Got Me" !!! (Kinks cover)
oh wow! this is a killer album. you brought back a ton of memories
Michael Anthony is killing that bass.
One of my favorite Van Halen songs
It may not be their "most popular" but this is my favorite song off my favorite VH album. That riff just rips at my soul.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
'So This Is Love' is an underrated song from this record. It has a good base line. Jamie's Cryin which youve already reviewed also has great bass.
Anything off of those first four albums is a banger. Fair Warning is my favorite VH album. Michael Anthony is on bass and his background harmony with Eddie is integral to the overall classic VH sound. I would recommend "Take Your Whiskey Home" from Women & Children First as your next Van Halen song.
Agreed, but I really love Diver Down, too.
YAAAASSSS! Take Your Whiskey Home!🥃🎛🎸🥁🎙🎶🤘
I think my fave from Women and Children is "Everybody Wants Some." I'm not going to recommend it, however, because I think it's a bit too loud and brutal for most people.
The Early Stuff was so full of life and passion
Van Halen at their Glorious PEAK !!
Their earlier music was heavier and this song shows that! One of my favs!!!!
Van Halen was soincredible during this period... other Rock Stars went to their shows !
That base groove
Definately in my top 5 VH songs! RIP EVH🎸🎶👍
Best VH album they ever made! I bought the album on a Saturday morning at the local record shop when it was first released in '81, and I played through the whole thing on my record player 3 times without leaving my room. It is a darker album, more intense, more in-your-face...just killer!
This is definitely one of their big hits
Can’t ignore the production from one of the most underrated producers in rock, Ted Templeman. Every single instrument is clear on its own, and equally clear altogether. Right down to Alex’s high hats, everything is clear and it pops.
Those first two albums and those first two tours, Van Halen seemed like going to the circus! The Greatest Show on Earth! The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus of Rock and Roll! The rhythm section was like all of the exotic animals. Eddie was like the trapeze act, and Dave was the Ringmaster. Lol. You couldn't take your eyes off of them but you couldn't see it all at once. It was truly amazing.
Great analogy!
Fair Warning is an awesome album. I just wish it was a longer album. Leaves you wanting more. 🤘
Still hard to believe Eddie is gone. This dude and his guitar were absolutely unmatched! Meaning, there was only one EVH, and there will never be another. RIP
My favorite VH album. This is a very popular track. The opening song on Fair Warning.
I think you'd really like "Push comes to shove" from the same album, David Lee Roth's vocals with the groove on that song is fantastic!
Push come to shove is my personal favorite solo from Eddie ever...
No doubt the guitar is amazing, but it is also one of my favorite ever performances by DLR. I love the way he punches certain words in the lyrics:
At night I WALK these stinkin’ streets past the crazies on my block
And I see the same old FACES and I hear that same old talk
And I’m searchin’ for the latest THING, a break in this routine
Talkin’ some new KICKS ones like you ain’t never seen…
Kick ass song on my favorite album with Van Halen.
My fave VH record. Hear About It Later, So This Is Love, & Unchained are all A+ bangers.
This whole album rocks hard. Possibly my favourite VH album
Hard to believe that this song could be considered not one of their most popular. Most old school VH fans seem to have this album as their favorite, it's definitely mine!
Yes!!!! As a Bass Player we seldom get overlooked. It ain't heavy without Bass!
12 years old when this album hit. Got it for Christmas! Still loving it.
Greatest intro to a rock song! Considered to be VH at the top of their game, this is their "darkest" album. You can listen to this album from end to end and there's not a SINGLE bad track. My personal favorite tracks are "Push comes to shove" and "Hear about it later". If you want to catch Van Halen in a nutshell,Google their 1981 Oakland concert shows. The energy is off the charts!
Just one of their masterful fade-outs on this track too...no one did a fade-out like the mighty VH
I would put this intro in my top 5 easily, but my number one intro is Megadeth's song "Set The World A Fire". It's equally impressive. 👍👌🤘✌️😎
Crazy guitar work on this track by Eddie! Would like you to react to either "And The Cradle Will Rock" (Roth vocals) or "Best Of Both Worlds" (Hager vocals) next. Thanks. 😎
Yall said it well.
This song captures a dark inner city mood...
" you know this ain't no thru street... the end is dead ahead" . Tough lyrics. This one has good "replayability" .
Mean Streets is everything you love about VH!!! That amazing intro by Eddie!!! David’s animalistic vocals!!! The band in top form.
Love it !! I grew up with Van Halen, my favorite all-time band !! Y'alls show is good !! 👍
A masterpiece song.I got to see Van Halen in Birmingham Alabama in 83 and they put on a great show.
Watching you two groove to my favorite VH song of all time had me smiling and grooving with ya'! Dirty and gritty stuff!
What I love about this song is the Flanger sound that comes off the guitar everytime they are about to break it down and do the main chorus
Can you even imagine being part of their early club days in LA? Knowing they would be so huge!
It's the Power and melody and in your face vocal sty;e of this "BIg Hard City' sound of this song that makes it work !!! 🤜🎶
Dark album. Soooo bloody good! Eddie was my big time favorite growing up. A game changer he was. The Roth era of VH was my go to and still is.
EVH playing was hard, soulfull and soft thrown in a blender!
You guys should check out this other song by Van Halen if you haven't already, "Finish What Ya Started".
"Push Comes to Shove" from the same album has super-cool groovy bass, and some superlative lines from David Lee Roth.
One of my favorite VH songs! If you remember the Eruption video towards the end he played the beginning of this song.
Sunday Afternoon in the Park/One Foot Out the Door. Its essentially one song from this album and lemme tell ya the solo is CRAZY good.
Saw Van Halen 4 tours in a row in the early 80’s at Riverfront Coliseum in the town where our BELOVED Cincy Bengals play! Thanks for repping our team with that amazing cap, bro! Van Halen AND Bengals ROCK! WHO DEY!
Although not their most commercially successful album, most diehard VH fans will tell you this is their favorite album. also, almost all guitar players famous included. will tell you when it comes to Van Halen albums. this is hands down their favorite album because of Eddie's playing and his tone. I know you guys have done eruption but I believe you've only done the live version which is awesome. but actually that live version of eruption has parts of eruption has the intro to this song. Mean Streets also has another solor piece that Eddie did called cathedral and Spanish fly all rolled into that live eruption video. but I really think you guys should do the studio version of eruption right into. you really got me. that is what changed guitar forever and that is how most of us heard Eddie Van Halen for the very first time and what totally blew our minds and changed guitar playing forever ! RIP King Edward! 🙏🎸
"Romeo Delight" is another VH heavy hitter that received no radio airplay.
Great track from the Mighty Van Halen's Best Album!!
The opening sound you hear, is the literal sound of Edward Van Halen trekking across the universe at light speed and arriving hear at planet Earth:) All real Van Halen fans have this one amongst the top of their favorite Van Halen songs list. I can't wait until you do "Hear About It Later" from this album! This whole album is fire, really. I read that it was one that Alex Van Halen kept going back to. So, that tells you something:)
Michael Anthony was the unsung hero of Van Halen. His bass sound drove most of the songs! And his backup vocals were unbelievable.
"GOD STRIKE THAT POOR BOY DOWN"
(ZOOM!! CRASH!!) I enjoyed watching your reactions ❤
Everybody Wants Some is a good one by Van Halen. It was featured in the 80's comedy Better Off Dead, starring John Cusack.
"And The Cradle Will Rock" has to be next!
This is always been one of my favorite Van Halen songs, probably my favorite Van Halen album
This is the mighty VH at their best, and Eddie at his fiercest on guitar work. Michael Anthony is one of the most underrated bassists in rock, and holds right to Eddie's guitar licks and chord changes. Alex with the hard drumming, and Dave with the rough tough lyrics for the period, makes Mean Street a rock masterpiece.
Van Halen's 1981 album Fair Warning was considered their 'dark album', yet on it's own could be considered one of the greatest rock albums in history, IMO.
Grew Up listening to VanHalen😳And avoiding the song even though I had the album…Ooopps🫣 Man was I Wrong,Never heard it like today🤙🏼
This made my freakin day. Seeing you give that reaction to (hot take, here) one of the top 3 VH songs was awesome
For a variety of reasons, particularly in the group of musicians I hung out with, this album made a huge impact, and much more than their other more 'famous' albums from this era. To this day, many decades later, this album still gives me The Chills.
