- This one goes out to all my retail baddies! Quick Story Time about the time karma worked double time for your girl. Ross was definitely a different beast (in my experience) and I pray for all my retail besties cause girl...I get it. Moral of the story: Don't let anyone play you, disrespect you, or demean you regardless of your position. That lady was embarrassed that she didn’t have no money and decided to take it out on anyone she could. She honestly deserved worse than being embarrassed about her card declining especially with the way she spoke to that child. When I worked in fast food if someone didn’t have enough for their meal my manager would help them out, but only if they were polite to me (I was the cashier) first. If they got loud and disrespectful with me before my manager got up there, she would not do a single thing for them. If that woman was kind to you and the assistant manager I’m sure things could have worked out in her favor. But she decided to be nasty and left empty handed and embarrassed
You’re 100% right. I truly believe that at the point of my Assistant Manager witnessing this woman’s tantrum first hand she stopped trying to help her and just stood there like “we can’t do anything for you”. After she re-bagged this lady’s entire order I would’ve been petty af y’all know this…🤣
As a retail worker I give the same energy back I get. I'm very lucky that I can kick rude people out if I find it necessary cause absolutely not, I will not let anyone treat me some type of way.

My poor mummy works in retail and has worked in it mostly her whole life. And the stories she tells me about how shitty and disrespectful people are boils my blood. Our retail workers are one of the hardest working people out there.

I’m in the service industry and JUST yesterday I had a woman try to belittle me and talk to me and laugh like I was dumb. I’m 28 now but it reminded me of a younger me that would’ve really been deeply affected by it, whereas older me had no issues smiling and speaking kindly yet (matter of factly) back. Some people really do think they are above everybody else and it just does not make any sense.
The condescending attitude is something I need to work on girl I’m not even gonna lie…Someone yelling at me belligerently, I can handle that but the minute they start the laughing and the belittling nicknames girl…God is still working on me with that one 💀
Girl when I worked at Ross right after highschool during college and it was depressing it actually broke me because of how horrible the customers and co workers were
Going home feeling like you were at war with common folks..all day…I understand completely. I had to have “this is only temporary” replaying in my head all day just to make it.
I'm a full time cashier at Home Depot and I get soooo many entitled people. But it really is the nice people that go out of their way to tell you you're doing a great job, that matter and mean SO much! It gets hard some days, but one light can rid a lot of darkness
Thank you for this comment! It reminded me that a little bit of kindness and grace goes a long way. A "good job" or "have a great" day and smile can go a long way! Sometimes I can get wrapped up with how busy, stressed, or anxious I am, but it only takes a few seconds to brighten someone's day!

YESSS!!! I had a couple on my 2nd day tell me how great i was doing n that i'd be the star of the store sooner than later, even a lady say how much my smile brightened her day! We truly need more customers like that around working in retail FOR SURE!! Especially since we're doing THEM a service! >.

Giiirl working retail is definately not for the weak, saying this from experience I'm a front end supervisor at Ross and let me just say I have a lot of stories from there lol I don't know why people blame us when their card isn't going through then they come out telling you the balance on their card as if you can do anything about it lol watching this video made me realize that unfortunately there's a lot of people that do that because I've had so many that walk out after ringing up their $700 purchase then we are stuck having to process them again lol I loved this storytime though definitely can relate! I’m not surprised but I am thoroughly disappointed and disgusted by the amount of comments relating to this story time from the perspective of current or previous service industry workers. I really really hope that everyone can move forward in a more respectful manner when out and about cause wow. We all have the same experiences just different levels of intensity and that’s insane! I wish someone would invent an app that ONLY employees could use to rate the customer on their behavior and after so many “strikes” they’re forced to online shop for the rest of their days lmao

I have been working as an assistant manager in the food industry and retail for years. Giiiiiiiiiirl, the way I’m SICK of people. I’ve been yelled at, had food thrown at me, had people blame me for policy. A mess. Thankfully, I’m done with it, I’m working from home after this week! 🙌🏽
The amount of times I was blamed for someone’s card declining or coupons not going through while working at Macy’s. I used to get “you must be new here bc this always works” like yes I am so if you wanna argue with someone I can call a manager.
I currently work at Old Navy and let me tell you, people are rude af! Anyways thanks for the story time, and wish me luck on my shift tomorrow 😂

Worked in retail, had to organize, make space for things we didn’t have space for, ran to the register, to help customers, to stock, to price, to count, to check every isle for a out of place item or not front facing item, to make ppl wear masks, then not, then do again, and get told that you’re not good enough. One old man that didn’t understand tax, had to always ring him up 2x while he did “ his math “ on paper.

One of the hardest jobs I ever had was working retail and it was also my lowest paid job. People feel like they’re better than you and like they personally pay you when they don’t. People think if you’re working in the service industry you’re dumb so they act like that to make themselves feel better about themselves. Everyone should work in a service industry job at some point in their life and maybe less people would feel entitled to be rude to workers.
It’s the same people that think they’re “above” the employees that lose the ability to use a hanger, read bathroom signs, or understand the concept of an expired coupon. 😒The audacity. Yep, the lowest I’ve ever been paid was in the service industry, every time. Smh

Honestly this story time was a great reminded that my job isn’t that bad, I used to work at Sears as a cashier and it was the best/worst job I ever had bc of customers like that
The reason why I have social anxiety now is because a lot of adults would purposefully try to publicly embarrass me and talk down on me. It made me so anxious. In 3rd grade, this one disciplinary teacher got mad at me for being shy and quiet in the middle of a lunch line so loudly like she wanted everyone to hear. I literally felt like all eyes were on me and later I found out that some of my classmates were laughing at me. Idk, I'm a teenager now and something like that sticks with you for the rest of your life. It was embarrassing at the time but now it just angers me when older people feel the need to do that to someone so I'm glad that lady got what she deserved in the end.
I dont work retail but im a young medical assistant and the Dr I work for and his wife (the manager) definitely walk all over me and mistreat me due to my age compared to the other workers who are over twice my age. It really sucks. I try to stand up for myself respectfully but it gets taken as "disrespect to my elders." I also deal with rude patients a good bit who are just rude for no reason. It's quite heartbreaking how much people have to fight in order to get respect.

Girl I work at Starbucks and we are known for having the WORST Karens and let me just tell you that the customers that come in rude for literally no reason are the same ones that ALWAYS get their card declined! When I was new I used to always take it to heart and wonder why people were so mean but they're really just angry with themselves so they come to places like this take their anger out on innocent people who are literally just doing their job.
Now every time I have to deal with an angry Karen I actually just laugh inside when I see that card declined message pop up 😂
Girl, I met you when I worked at Olive Garden and I met you when you came through the airport while I was working at clear, and both times you were so patient and respectful and even if I didn’t know who you were, I would be so thankful! Because there are just some people who just are either mad with themselves, going through their own thing, or simply just mean that gets taken out on others that are providing a service.. in ALL truthfulness I think the people who act like that, have never worked a customer service job in their LIFE

Tell me why I worked retail in the mall, and I had this girl ask me for a fitting room. I let her in, and she left a few minutes later, looked me in my eyes and said have a good day! I opened the fitting room to clear the clothes out and she had PEED on the floor. Like big puddle
MEEEE , im in fitting room everydayyyyy & this guy asked me to use the bathroom & ross has the bathrooms where the fitting rooms are . he didn’t wanna go in the bathroom bcs it said ladies next to it & i told him it was the fitting room that , the bathrooms were right thereee & he ignored me and walked to the men’s fitting room and he peed in there i was like there is no way you didn’t see a toilet there or nothing and decided to still pee in there just bcs the bathrooms were next to a ladies sign 😣

I really needed this because I'm 16 and working at a fast food restaurant. Let me tell you there's times when I have wanted to jump over the counter because they were being rude to me and were I have felt scared because of how aggressive a customer is being towards to me. GIRL DID YOU WORK AT ROSS TOO??? I worked there and those customers were some else!!! I had a customer threaten to fight me cause she wanted me to fold her clothes in the middle of a rush, and I had someone call me an "n" with a hard "er" and my manager told me to get over it! Everyday it didn't matter how slow or busy we were. I was the only cashier all day everyday, I quit as soon as I got a response from Ann taylor lol
Everybody should have to work retail or fast food as their first job. Dealing with the general public will humble you and make you side eye people 😂. It also makes you a better customer bc you can put yourself in other’s shoes
hahaha I handle these people the same way you did. When they come up to the register on the phone or too busy talking to their family to acknowledge my questions, I just go on and don't say a word. Unless I'm feeling petty, I'll just stand and stare at them until they answer my questions (we have to ask if they need to buy a bag or phone number for points. Working as a manager in retail was one of the most challenging positions I've had in regards to dealing with entitled customers. I remember crying one night when I read a bad survey response of a lady who called me racist for not folding her clothes nice enough - meanwhile, I am a crappy folder and you're buying from an off-price retailer. Or being racist because I check employee IDs to use their discount when they are traveling and I don't know them. Sorry, that's a company policy most employees just don't bother to follow.
