I unfortunately am one of those people who will not always put up a fight when someone is trying to have a one-up on me but my mom always tells me NEVER take no for an answer, and NEVER listen to the first thing anyone tells you because these people WILL be out here trying to swindle you!
My mom says the same thing and I used to be like you too but if you fight back people get scared and most of the time you will get your way , especially when they just don’t want to deal with the situation anymore lol

My dad when he was younger he was signing a contract for a house and he and my mom just signed it without reading it to the point where the guy that was the owner was like, damn, I could have scammed the shit out of you just then. You didn't read anything. My dad and mom realized that maybe they should start reading the contracts fully.
I feel they make it very awkward to sit and read the contract while you're in front of them. I remember signing a lease or some type of form to be background checked etc etc at an apartment and it kind of makes u wanna skim thru and just sign.
@@mirahb.9713 I can definitely understand why reading something in front of you could be potentially awkward. Especially if its a super long contract.
@@mirahb.9713 Not as awkward as it is to later sit there with a complaint and they look at you and say “well you knew about it cause your signed”. Don’t be afraid to ask for time to look over the contract or lease. Have them bring you a coffee and relax while you look over the documents. Also, this will set the precedence to them early on that you’re about your business. Awkward moments are what they count on to get you in their clutches mama. Take your time 💕

There would always be a lesson/ moral of the story that’d relate to what I was going through irl. And once again, now that I’m a young adult, this video has come at the perfect time in my life. Ik now to 1. Always thoroughly read all legal documents. 2. Always save receipts. 3. Advocate for myself & never bow down to pressure. Tysm for being the big sister I’ve always wanted/needed. ❤❤❤
Yes but take your sweet time take it home and bring it back if needed and always get a copy.
I save EVERYTHING. I still have custody paperwork and my kid is 21 yo. Heck yeah I'll keep it. Its messed up how people are taken advantage of because they didn't read the fine print!
That’s smart! My dad walked out on my brother and I when we were little and he didn’t want to pay child support and is illegal so it was harder to get it from him. Now that we’re older he started paying child support 🤣 because he wants to apply for papers , so my mom is barely getting that child support 20 years later lmao

Yup learned this the hard way when I signed for my first car through financing. Super shitty car. I put $2000 for a $7500 car. I asked them if the warranty they offered was INCLUDED and they told me yes. Turns out it's an add on and was an extra $2000 for 12,000 miles. But the really crazy part is the fact that a month after I got the car the interior driver door handle broke and 3 more months after that I needed a new engine. I got a new engine throught the warranty however, it was a used one and I had to request an invoice because they wouldn't sent me anything without requesting. When they sent it to me they failed to include the mileage of the new engine. Needless to say 3 months after I got the new engine my car broke down because coolant had been leaking in the engine the whole time resulting in it constantly over heating. I tried to get them to fix it, but by that point my warranty expired and they refused. I had the car for all of 10 months and still owed $7,000. I offered to settle or have it returned to them and they refused that as well. So I stopped paying on it then 2 months later it when they called me offering to settle. Super shitty experience. Definitely learned to do my research thoroughly. Leave no stoke unturned. I ended up getting a new car through Carvana a week after the last one broke down. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Carvana❗️
The way my emotions spiraled through this comment. GIRL!! I feel you! I had a terrible experience when signing for my scion when I was 19. That debt lasted until I was 27!! Stupid stupid decisions. Had to learn the hard way but that’s why I’m here so I can share what I’ve learned cause girl! 😅 I’m sorry you went through this!!

I don't mind living in apartments, but based on reviews and experiences I am so afraid of having a hard time getting in contact with maintenance or the leasing office. I cannot stand not being able to solve an issue because folks are not doing their job or are trying to pull a fast one on me.
Always look into reviews of apartment places first and foremost! There are good ones out there! I love my maintenance people, they come within the HOUR of me submitting an issue if it’s urgent even when I don’t realize it is!

Not all complexes are the same love! There are sketchy ones but there are also some diamonds in the rough. My advice: write up a list of your must haves…washer/dryer, covered parking, 24 hour maintenance, etc. and go in person to visit every complex. Time consuming but worth it to have a peaceful living space. 🫶🏼

Now I’m turning 20 this year and I’ve been watching you probably since I was in middle school and I really looked up to you then and even more so now. You’ve really encouraged me to stand up for myself and speak my mind when I know something is not correct. I admire these attributes about you.

Girl I was in a similar situation a while back! I had been in my apartment for about 3/3.5yrs and in that last year new management took over and from DAY MF 1 it was problems.
Like you, I don’t play about my bills and I pay them on time if not early. 1 day rolls around and I wake up to a notice on my door: 72hrs to PAY OR VACATE!! I instantly called the office and they apologized for the confusion and assured me they had my rent but it had been applied to the wrong unit. They fixed it, I was good.
Fast forward MAYBE 6 months and I have ANOTHER notice bish! Mind you, I worked M-F 9a-6p just like them, so I never had the option to see them face to face unless I left/took off work. Which is EXACTLY what I did for that second notice-girl this time they just lost my rent altogether. I went in there with my bank statement of my cleared checked & a 30day notice.
I read them for professional filth but it didn’t end there. They tried to keep my deposit for “pet stains”-never in my life had a pet, there was no evidence of any pets in the home OR on the lease (we had to pay a pet deposit too). They very quickly revised that statement and sent me ALL my coint.
You did exactly what you were supposed to do. Fuck them and people like them. People will always take it too far and try to take advantage of you, but that doesn’t mean you should sit back and let them. Ty for being a role model by proving you stand by what you preach. Leading by example at its finest 👏❤️

When I went to school for medical billing and management, it was drilled into our head to read everything before doing anything. The teacher would give us tests and in the description it would say for example “write your name and do not answer the questions”. A lot of people failed. I passed every time.

We had something similar happen, my friend wanted to sell her apartment and she was so lucky that her parents were so involved. They read the contracts multiple times it ended up preventing my friend being scammed. It’s all in the fine lines

I grew up in low-income apartments and I seen the BS the leasing office tried pulling on my parents. We had shared water expenses but somehow my parents were paying $1200 while my neighbors were paying $80. My neighbors had more people in crammed into their apt. then I thought was possible. My parents were talking about it for weeks.
My bf and I are moving into an apartment complex soon and when I tell you this was so so so so so informative and eye opening for me. I’ve learned so much, I’m going to read and keep EVERYTHING. Thank you!

I ain’t even had to sign much in my lifetime as I just turned 18 last year during winter break. I’ve known that I should always and forever read anything I put my signature on.

you have to read all the fine print my lease is 55 pages. and we have shared water and electricity. PECO those tramps wanted 350 dollars for 1 room studio. my bill a month 141. rent is 2100 for a 2 bedroom with perks storage shopping gym and 24 maint. no smoking and no smoking weed period...8pm county noise curfew... so you have to see what benefits up first and check your finances and what they are providing you with before you sign that lease.

Love the leasing stories. I work for an apt complex but best believe I am the first one to question something and ask where does it state that on the application or lease before going to the resident about it. I will pull their file first and double check if it applies to them. My mgr is the same way, she always says she’s not in the business of screwing ppl over.
I want to work in my office bc it’s shitttt and I want to make it better. I’m glad I’m leaving but I don’t want other people to deal with shitty leasing office stuff.
