I’m curious if y’all have any more fun explanations for the types? Let me know down below 🙂
@Julian Cardoza steel resist psychic and IDK why it isn't super effective
nice
Fairy’s or Fae’s can be seen as connected to nature so poisoning said nature weakens them
You ever try to punch a bird? Doesn’t work.
Why is fighting super effective against steel
I don’t think steel is weak to fighting because the fighter wields a sword, it’s because strong fighters break steel, obviously
Me too
Well this also depends on the type of steel I personally think it should be a neutral because strong fighters can only break small amounts of steel at once the most they can do with a higher amount is bend it then after that nothing so I think it should be a neutral
@@chaosmaker2791 oh so if you got bent in half it’ll be only a scratch
@@chaosmaker2791 and those are humans with human strength, these are Pokémon with Pokémon strength
Yes, I agree. It’s the same with rock and ice . I kind of think about it like that old movie trope where a martial artist’ll chop some wooden plank in half with a kick or strike if the hand.
I always like the explanation on fighting being weak to flying as "Have you ever tried to punch/suplex a bird?"
You can't punch a bird, but you can kill 2 with one stone!
Yes
I own 5 birds. I’m just putting it out there, I could absolutely smoke one of the little fuckers. I think I could take on minimum, MINIMUM, 143 birds at once. Take that information and do with it as you will.
@@wheresc4789 I mean, "birds" can range anywhere from zebra finches to Cassowaries. If you can punch a zebra finch then I gotta admire your speed and accuracy, but if it's more in the cassowary range then I know of a certain southern continent that's in dire need of your skillset.
@@conspiracypanda1200 which is why Flying is weak to Rock

Dark are also weak to Bug because it’s somewhat common for Japanese superheroes to be based off of insects.
Also bugs cannot be corrupted and many yokai are attributed to bugs
I thought it was because evil guys think of the good guys as "bugs"

To be fair dark's weakness' make more sense when you realize that it's supposed to be "evil" evil is weak to fighting as "good fights evil to defeat it"
As pointed out, in japanese, its not dark but "bad/evil" !
So ye, super heroes just beat up bad guys !
The psychic one opened my fucken mind bro.
Made a lot more sense when I realized psychic's weaknesses are the same types that trigger the rattled ability.
I always thought Psychic was weak against Dark because psychics can see the future, but if they can't see anything, there wouldn't be much use for them.
Fairy is weak to poison because fairy represents life, and poison represents pollution.
"fighting is weak to flying because they have the highH ground" I'm never accepting any other reason why fighting is weak to flying now
Flying has the high ground over Ground too but that only gives a inmunity
@@josukehigashikata86 because you can jump to reach a flying thing while if the ground jumped then we wouldnt be here today
@@aahhhhhhhhhhhhh I imagined the literal ground jumping while reading this 😭
You try punching something that can hover 80 meters in the air by default.
At the same time, flying is also a substitute for air, and you can't punch air
I always thought the fairy>steel weakness was like the Industrial/modern age destroying fairytales
I always thought it was man vs nature, since fairies tend to protect nature in stories
more like the knight in armor that protects him from the witchs dragon and then kills the witch
the knight isnt strong enough to defeat a dragon but he can protect himself from it
@@TheAuthenticBlueTheBudew I think it can be both, with the Fairy v.s. Steel conflict acting as a multilayered metaphor, such as Nature v.s. Artificial, Magic v.s. Technology, Tradition v.s. Progress, etc., which might’ve been the intention of the old folklore, making fairies weak to iron.
@@Advent10II7 I agree
@@aahhhhhhhhhhhhh orang
"And for the rest..... I ran out of time!" xD
I'm glad SOMEBODY got the fairy / steel weakness thing explained correctly. In folklore, it is said that hanging an iron cross over your doorway repels the Fae folk. They are repelled by steel because it is said that steel touching the skin of a fairy causes them to burn.

Oh, my, golly gee gosh. I have never known this astronomically useful information. Thank you for lending me a taste of your all-seeing wisdom, wise one.
For the longest time I've always loved my headcanon that the reason why Psychic is weak to Bug is because it distracts them from their meditation because of buzzing.
“Hit two birds with one stone” is a good way to remember rock beats flying
Dark being weak to bug is actually a reference to Kamen Rider, where the heroes are all designed after bugs. In Japanese Dark is called the "Evil" type.
what I love most about fairy type is how creepy it is sometimes. While the type has cute pokemon like swirlix, ribombee, and dedenne, it also has more than a few off-putting pokemon like aromatisse being a plague doctor, sylveon which is known to manipulate the emotions of it's soon to be prey, mimikyu being a cute but horrifyingly vengeful spirit, hatterene which LITERALLY TEARS PEOPLE TO SHREDS IF THEY THINK TOO LOUD...and somethings gotta be up with mr. mime like come on. The very first fairy type gym was a dollhouse, which is always a bad thing in videogames. The fairy tale girl npcs are even creepier than hex maniacs, with the weird things that they say and their glazed over eyes implying that they might not be as human as they appear. Fairy type doesn't just focus on traditional charming and heroic fairies, but also the mythical trickster varieties of old folk tales. Ranging from mischevious to downright malicious and violent. Think about how many fairy type moves focus on disorienting or manipulating your opponent. Maybe the real reason its strong against both fighting and dark is because, no matter how skilled you are, no matter how many dirty tricks you use, can you defeat an opponent that you can't truly comprehend the power of? That never lets you know its next move? That you doubt is even standing before you in the first place? Fairy isn't a type that represents the tiny heroes of good and light that we see today, its a type that represents the mysterious and often vengeful fae creatures of old folk tales...and folk tales dont always have happy endings.
yes, fairy type represent the witch in a fairytale.
steel type is effective on it because its the knight in shining armor that kills the witch
the witch manipulates and controls the dragon
the knight cannot directly fight a dragon so his armor protects himself from it
Always remember, *Spirit Break* is a Fairy type move.
@@FonVegen Me when I experience any form of failure whatsoever:

Dark is weak to fairy since fairy is basiclally also meant to be a Light type. Steel is weak to fighting since its common for bodybuilders/other strong people to bend steel
Dark-type is not literal darkness in Japanese.
And Fairy-type being light... yeah no, not even close.
@@Dexuz That is why i said basically. A type like Fairy is not literally the light typing. But it is a type that symbolizes light/good. Just like Dark symbolizes both Dark and Evil.
@@Dexuz Fairies always have a bright light emitting from them
@@anonymouspotato3584
Fairies as in Peter Pan? Sure, but that's one of the many interpretations of fae creatures.
In Scottish folklore we got the Unseelie Court, evil fairies that often cause harm and kill humans at night.
As usual, Pokémon amalgamates multiples myths for their creatures' inspiration, and in the case of the Fairy-type, it's also that way, some of them are benevolent and "light-based" like Clefable, but more often than not they are mischievous and even harmful, like Whimsicott, Grimmsnarl, Hatterene, Shiinotic, Mr. Mime, etc.
The type is so variated than it doesn't work as a "light-type" or even as a "good-type".
Dark's weakness to Fairy also because devils should be fought by angels.
The fairy being weak to steel makes sense. In Ireland we were taught that iron was like kryptonite to fairies.
I finally understand everything now

I thought Dark beats Psychic because playing dirty or using cheap tactics beat actually being smart
example, literally any game with a good player VS the hacker
nah, psychic is representative of the mind. and ghosts, bugs, and the dark are all very common psychological fears. the mind (psychic type) is weak to them
i think bug ghost and dark all mess around with psychic
@@aahhhhhhhhhhhhh well, that's another reason too. Psychic-type always uses their mind to do a bunch of things (and is also mostly associated with intelligence) and Dark-type is mostly fighting dirty.
I thought it was because dark thoughts ruin the mind
@@striderloki5080 I mean, it's because of traumas, but we also can say:
Dark type because cheating can easily beat playing well and smarter.
Ghost type, because a logical person won't believe on them, making him totally vulnerable to their jokes and treaks.
Bug types because they tend to be very noisy, dangerous and annoying, making it impossible to concentrate with them around xD
I like to think Dark is weak to Fighting because I believe Fighting represents indomitable Willpower, thus Willpower overcomes the Darkness
Considering Dark type is Evil type in Japan, pretty sure it's super hero versus villain.
@@kaylawoodbury2308 Yes Dark's weakness to Fighting is actually main heroes KOing evil villains in superhero stories and things like Mortal Kombat, Dragon Ball and Naruto series and also in Mario and similar games eg Sonic, Zelda, Kirby, Donkey Kong, and Wario Land series.
that psychic weakness explained is actually so helpful! everything after that made me have a stroke

On Flying > Fighting, to quote the comic Awkward Zombie:

I would accept "steel cages fairies" as the answer for Steel weakness to Fairy.
I always thought ghost was weak to dark because dark is too evil to be scared by ghosts lol
I really needed to know this as a kid it would’ve made my life easier
I can't believe you didn't figure it out when you were a kid.
Psychic is strong against fighting because brain over brawn, and strong to poison because mind over matter
Fighting weak to flying is basically, “Do you know how FUCKING HARD IT IS TO PUNCH A BIRD?!”
Some really good outside of the box thinking!
Why do i feel more confused now lol.
I always thought ghosts were weak to ghost and dark because like in the anime and pokepark, they’re just little sweetiers who get scared easily
Also, if you're immune to mundane types like normal and fighting, then it only makes sense that in-phase types like dark and ghost will _really_ connect.
For years i was confused why fighting is weak to flying lol thanks dobbs
I’ve always thought of Fairy’s weaknesses as the movie “Fern Gully”
Okay time to remember this!
Me in a pokemen battle: so whats weak to what?
I always thought ground to poisen cause if grass is poisoned it dies but the poisen can't penetrative the ground so the poisen stops at the ground level ( that's my 2 cents)
Did you know plants produce poison themselves you can look up poison ivy and foxglove or even oleanders
Carbon Filtering. Where poisons and other such microbe lifeforms in water get filtered out when passing through different layers, such as gravel, silt, sand, etc.
I played pokemon blue in the mid 2010s, and a little baffled to find out flying beats fighting.
Since when can you punch a bird without it dodging you lol
@@erwannthietart3602 Good point...
As a kid, I never really payed attention to how the "elemental weaknesses" work in Pokemon Yellow, just the movie basic simple ones like "water beats fire".
Now explain type resistances like why fire resists fairy attacks etc
Thanks bro
Everything is weak to steel if you hit it with a car.
While your reasoning made sense, I always saw fairy as being weak to poison and steel for a different reason. In folklore, fae and the like typically had two downfalls- industry, or Steel, and corruption, or Poison.
But why does fire resist fairy damage?
There are some actual explanations as to why the weaknesses are they way they are. Bugs are celebrated and honored in Japan. People in Japan aren't afraid of bugs, hence why bug beats darkness, since it is not a fear over there. And fighting is strong against steel because martial artists, body builders, etc. can bend steel. There's a mythology explanation for why fairy beats dragon, but it has escaped my mind and Google isn't helping right now. As for why poison beats fairy, I assume it's because fairies represent purity while poison represents corruption, and it can be easy for pure beings to be corrupted.
Fairy is weak to Poison for the same reason it is weak against Steel.
The two are Fairies' weaknesses in folklore, cold iron and nightshade.
I always saw Fairy being strong against Dragon as a representation of a Dragon always being slain in Fairytales.
"Do you know what happens when a ghost-type fights a ghost-type in that world-famous video game? ...it's super effective!"
Fairy should get a bug weakness for balance
I think this deserves a full length video with more detailed explanations for all types.
"Dragon because Dragons are so powerful only another one can defeat one." Shows a literal Granny One shotting Giratina
Bugs being effective against dark is actually a reference to Kamen Rider, where the bug themed heroes fight the forces of evil, and dark is the evil type in Japan.
And that's also why Bug and Fighting are the only types that are mutually resistant to each other, and strong against Dark.
Lmfao he mailed it in at the end
"Ghosts can be corrupted by evil spirits"
Ah yes, friendly fire
My stupid way of remembering that Fighting beats steel was that if you were to kick the door of a car, it’ll leave a dent lmao. And my way of remembering that steel beats grass is just “Lawnmower”.
Grass does half damage to steel, but steel isn’t super effective against grass.
Try damaging a tank by hitting it with flowers 😂
A weakness people seem to forget about bug types and ice types is the weakness to rock, but I always remember the weaknesses when I’m playing because it makes sense that a rock can crush a bug and shatter ice
Gah damn the psychic thing was super helpful, I never thought of it like that
Never thought I would see a Gastly yawn (Kind of cute)

Dragon is weak to ice
Kyurem: Am i a joke to you

Fighting is weak to flying because HAVE YOU EVER TRIED TO PUNCH A BIRD‽
Pokémon devs:

I always saw the Psychic/Bug relationship as “Bugs don’t really have much mind to manipulate.”
I always thought psychic was strong against poison because with brainpower you make antidotes
Bug is weak to rock cuz you can squish a bug with a rock
"Hit a bird with a brick and it stops moving!"
Steel being weak to fighting never made sense to me

You guys are all assuming that the guy wearing steal has absolutely no idea how to wield it. Just some rich dude who bought an expensive armor and sword versus a strong fighter like Goku. You should think about Jorah Mormont's fight against Drogo's bloodrider. Even thou the blood rider was a better fighter at the moment of the fight, he lost due to Jorah wearing his armor.
Bro the physic one is actually so smart
"the others are pretty obvious"
Yeah how many rocks are hitting birds come on
Ah yes steel is obviously weak to ground. Cause everybody knows when i use my shovel on dirt it fucking explodes😂
Steel is weak to ground for obvious reasons? THATS THE ONE I CAME HERE FOR
Earthquakes can break buildings wich are usually made using steel beams
idk why, but this actually taught me what dark was weak to, I knew fighting was one though
bug, I didn't know that
it only makes sense grass/dark aren't the best type match ups
"dark is weak to fighting because good beats evil"
afraid of the dark? punch it
I think dark types being weaker to fighting types is more about how about how a blind martial artist can still hold their ground
That's a cool way to look at type weaknesses. Nice one
I Like This Lore
I feel like fairy should get a weakness to rock, because in lore, fairies are also repelled by salt.
That would definitely solve the whole overpowered type problem by having a weakness to a much more accessible type and knocks most of them down a peg thanks to Stealth Rock.
Poison is a very accessible type though, I don't get why people are still saying Fairy is over powered when its not. Electric has one weakness and does super effective damage to two of the most common types.
It would make sense if flying was weak to water because some birds are unable to fly if their wings are wet
flying type: its over fighting type i have the hight ground
I always saw steel weak to fighting because of the phrase “punch through steel”
“Ground barely conducts electricity” can you believe the disrepect
Lockstin explained the dragon-fairy weakness really well: how Fairies represent the passive flow and Dragons represent an active burst. Fairies can go through the burst completely unaffected.
that sounds really dumb haha
@@justinmadrid8712 he explains it far better than I did
@@areallycoolhat5427 sure buddy. fairies can go through the burst. like wigglytuff

Cant wait for resistances lol.
I always thought fighting was effective against dark because ‘fight your fears’
