All I remember from the calculating ash’s age episodes was that he had to look at real places in Japan, see what fruits were in season when, and figure out what season the show was in
He also cleared the battle frontier and it's described that all of them are on par with elite 4 members. If I remember 2 of them used legendary pokemon
@@bensell982 thanks for a reminder now I feel like a guilty party member that thinks ash is a problem child that keep on losing battles on the finals 😓
I classed ashes Pikachu as a special Pikachu as it refused to evolve so when ever ash took Pikachu to a new region Pikachu kept its level BUT had an ability no other Pikachu has had or any Pokémon and it's ability (I will call it) level adjust and it adjust Pikachu's level and stats to that of the surrounding area/environment and it also explains how Pikachu was able to beat so many spearows at the start and why Pikachu also refused to listen to ash to begin with
that or i just epxlain it with a lvl sacling mechanincs any game has your starting zone is lets say 1-25 the next zone/region is 25-35 and so on like what WoW used to do up to BFA so Pikachu just hitting those lvl caps for each zone till they move to the next is kind of easyer to comprihand than in cannon Pokemon and him getting stronger vs new pokemon is him just leveling his skills rathar his lvl and stats its kind of easyer to understand if its like that rathar than taking cannon from the games and compared to the anime + it makes more sence for Pikachu this way to not be too OP comprared to a new region suposedly lower lvl pokemon they encounter just to make the show interesting to be watched as a story and what not
I've always figured that Pikachu and ash have battles off screen we don't see. Like wild pokemon and trainers on their journey. Again, just a thought I've always had could be wrong

I’ve always held the anime and the game completely separate. I’m the game you level up and get stronger linearly, in the anime it always seems that they don’t operate on level strength whatsoever, more willpower and strategy lead to wins and evolution is usually based on things like maturity, emotion, and location. Trying to make show and game logic mix will always be a headache for Pokémon lovers.
Can we please appreciate the fact that matpat watched 600 episodes, averaging 30 minutes each, and 13 movies, each averaging about 90 minutes, for a grand total of about 320 hours (or about 13 and a half days) of watching Pokémon anime. Kudos to you, friend.
@Nargacuga Wyvern I counted opening middle and closing commercials. But if you don’t count them, it’s still 240 hours (about 9 and a half days) which is a lot.
im still trying to figure out which is correct he says in the beginning of the video 651 eps but at the end only 600 eps and the 13 movies so which is it? thats still a TON but still
I'd hazard a guess that he skipped through the episodes until Pikachu came into play. That doesn't take away from the length of time it took to research this, but it's the most sensible way to do it.
255 x region number. That's basically it. Resets to 1 when entering a new region. Achieves max level of 255 by the end of a region. Combines to the full value in movies. He prestiges.
Oh, Matt... Always behind all real Fans, huh? At the start of the Episode, i just wonder if he can even get stuff right, and at the end of the Episode, i have to answer: Nope... This is another obviously wrong theory and other, actual Experts have already found way better solutions before.
@@slevinchannel7589 Its a theory, it's purely speculation, it's quite clear that there's no such thing as a "correct" answer, because it's pretty obvious that the people who made the anime episodes and films did not put the game's leveling system into consideration, just from the sheer amount of inconsistencies between episodes vs the game.
I think in the pokemon show pikachu's (and all other pokemon) strength works kind of like how ours does. So you can basically lose strength after not training for a while. Given that I think whenever pikachu is taking a backseat to other pokemon he's getting weaker, but I also think battles are more realistic. Where even a lucky lower level pokemon can take down a much stronger opponent. Nothing like how the game is.
Not just your head cannon. Idk why but thats the route they definitely went with whether they acknowledge it or not. Pikachu can defeat really strong pokemon at the end of regions but then gets his hind end handed to him by a lv5 snivy
His name is actually Tracey. (Not that I actually like Tracey) Casey is name of the girl in the Johto who has the Chikorita and liked yellow and black striped Pokemon. I'm just a big fan of the Pokemon anime.
@@clintonanderson7436 Whether something is canon in the anime has nothing to do with whether its in the games or not. The games and the anime are two different interpretations of the Pokemon universe, so one aspect existing in the games and not the anime or vice versa has nothing to do with whether its canon or not.
@@clintonanderson7436 I don't think it's that people take it as non-canon, but more that the Orange Islands League isn't considered a main Official Pokemon League. The Orange Islands are basically the Sevii Islands, and are a part of the Kanto region, which already has its Official League... and let's be fair, he'd have made it farther in the Kanto League had his Charizard battled. Ritchie would have definitely lost.
Also, Pikachu defeated a Geodude with an electric attack. Geodude is Rock-ground type. it should've been immune to electric attacks. Anime logic, folks.
I think most people just forgot about Orange Island and hardcore fans just don’t acknowledge it because even the animators said it’s not canon. The Orange Island season was a filler season, rushed because the next season was pushed back due to some reason. In short, Orange Island is like the “Dragon Ball GT” of Pokémon.
I appreciate all the work & effort that went into this video! One thing that cannot be understated about season 1 however, is the special training that Pikachu is put through by Brocks father. This shatters the mold for a standard Pikachus abilities & imo is what made this particular Pikachu so special.

I think the reason why Pikachu losing to Snivy is that Snivy was given away at a higher level. It knew Leaf Tornado which it gets at Level 16. A regular level 5 starter Snivy would only have tackle as it's attacking move. And one extra reason why Pikachu lost to Snivy was because it was weakened, it couldn't use any electric type moves and it was exhausted because when
Ash's Pikachu had previously tied with a latios at the end of diamond and pearl, I don't think his exact level matters after tying with an actual legend
Matpat literally just answered one of my childhoods biggest questions concerning why ash always got rid of his team, the start of johto and how Ash's Pokemon were too powerful so he left them and when he went to the next region he did the same
"So how do you you kill a a bunch of legendary pokemon using pikachu that are under level every pokemon trainer " Ash : " using power of love " "Of course *sigh*"
Hey, the power of love has been fairly OP since it was introduced in Gen VII. Avoid 100% accurate attacks, resistinf fainting with 1HP, curing from ailments. The only thing that the power of love still can't do that Ash magically does is hitting ground-types with electric moves.
i cant imagine that helps all that much in the long run since later levels are such a slow down it would mostly even out, i can drag something new up to 30-40 in less than half an hour but if i want to get something from 60 to 70 thats more of an issue
Two bots responded to you and i though the two were links for a clip of what you say. Damn, UA-cam is getting in a dark route, isn't it? At least before you have the Rick Rolls and Darudemix.
Since we are using the in-game calculations, there is another variable that might come up that wasn't mentioned in the initial equation. Exp. totals should be divided by the total number of allied pokémon that took part in a given battle, and didn't end the battle fainted (e.g; if both Pikachu and Caterpie were used in a battle, and neither pokemon fainted, then the total should only be worth half for Pikachu)
Can we just sit down and appreciate the amount of effort MatPat does for his fanbase? It's incredible, and he's probably half insane by now. Thanks for all you do, MatPat, his editing team, and everyone that works with him.
I'd love to appreciate the work he put in, except this video is wrong, wrong, wrong wrong wrong in a thousand different areas. I can't accept how poorly this video was done. I can disprove and destroy virtually every aspect of this video with the anime itself, and somehow I'm to give him credit for making this? No.
@@idonotpost1456 the sad part is, you're trying so hard to be sarcastic, when, I actually know, and studied, the lore, extensively to where I currently write fanfiction by the lore. And, I don't need to know the lore at ALL to disprove his theory. For starters, the movies are not all "confirmed" canon. You can say they are, and that's fine, Bulbapedia will disprove you on that alone, and other theorists have shown what movies are outright canon and which are more subjective, like Lumiose Trainer Liam. Basing the levels of living, breathing creatures in the anime, on set levels of the ingame Pokemon, is ludicrous. Saying Team Rocket's Pokemon at the same level as in game grunts, without explaining why. Is that what you're defending? The TRio loses to Ash all the time, so to assume Giovanni's more competent grunts would match TRio's Pokemon levels is inconclusive, assumptive, and flat out wrong. Comparing the Indigo League levels to the ingame E4 levels when an actual E4 exists in the anime and is not related to the Leagues in the anime in any way, is absolutely lazy. I await you oh great one, to teach me in the errors of my ways. When you do so, allow me to humbly bow at your feet, my king, my god, my ruler.

Commenting at the ten minute mark, I feel behooved to mention that Pikachu also gains exp when ash uses him then switches, so if the enemy tosses another mon before ash can switch them Pikachu gets half that xp too

that or i just epxlain it with a lvl sacling mechanincs any game has your starting zone is lets say 1-25 the next zone/region is 25-35 and so on like what WoW used to do up to BFA so Pikachu just hitting those lvl caps for each zone till they move to the next is kind of easyer to comprihand than in cannon Pokemon and him getting stronger vs new pokemon is him just leveling his skills rathar his lvl and stats its kind of easyer to understand if its like that rathar than taking cannon from the games and compared to the anime + it makes more sence for Pikachu this way to not be too OP comprared to a new region suposedly lower lvl pokemon they encounter just to make the show interesting to be watched as a story and what not

Latias is my favorite Legendary Pokémon. I absolutly love the look of it, and it just is amazing in general.
I’ve always held the anime and the game completely separate. I’m the game you level up and get stronger linearly, in the anime it always seems that they don’t operate on level strength whatsoever, more willpower and strategy lead to wins and evolution is usually based on things like maturity, emotion, and location. I think in the pokemon show pikachu's (and all other pokemon) strength works kind of like how ours does. So you can basically lose strength after not training for a while. And, even if not, then at least he would be growing as a person, which is definitely something that I too personally would consider a huge success.
Matpat : *makes a Theory about what level Ash's pickachu really is*
UA-cam : "ah yes, must be a sneak preview of that new Pokemon game they'll be releasing in 2022"
You are insane, this 'research' is insane, and I am loving every second of it.
Can we just appreciate, that this man watched all the Pokemon episodes and took notes
Do you truly believe he did that? All on his own?
@@zerotankor I mean it's possible, but MatPat has other theories that he looks into every so often so I can understand your doubt, plus he has even said he has a team to look into these theories so they could of just watched it for him
@@krisskross7700 There could also be the possibility of him having watched them over a long period. After all, he mentioned a three year old video, and he had to watch the episodes back them. Still, it's plausible that his team may have watched them for him. He has to deal with multiple channels and has a little son, I doubt he would have the time to watch 651 episodes of Pokémon, even if it's technically work for him
@@NIDELLANEUM Yh, I had that thought, but when does a man have time like that when he is dropping theories almost every week or so lol. As much as I don't want to immediately call MatPat out and say he's lying, the guy above defo has a point
Agreed
Pikachu losing to a level 5 Snivy is the moment most people remember from the Gen 5 anime.
If I recall correctly, ash also came straight out of the indigo league into a battle with a level 5 chikorita and pika got washed there too. but not as bad as with snivy. That's a 20 year old memory stuck in my head.
Yea it was when i stopped watching it 😂
@@Destroyer-kr6ho I stopped watching a few episode later when the characters kept introducing themselves and their whole teams every single episode, and the "whose that Pokemon" split was covered by multiple mentions of said Pokemons name before and after, and I realized I was way too old to be watching a show geared towards 5 year olds
That episode is the exact reason i stopped watching the anime
@@XxAtomic646xX Bro you should watch kalos its the best ash who is using his 900 iq and its the best season
So Ash's Pikachu is level 40, but it can beat level 70s, yet loses to a level 5? Seems legit.
Thanks for telling me dude kinda talks to much
Very legit. Just like Goku being way over 9000 and still dying to a heart virus or how being off-guard allows bullets to a least nick him.
@@nicodalusong149 9000? he's in the millions in his base form by the end of DBZ
@@Orion_44 I'm sure it's a very large number but that's not the point of my post.
As one wise man said(it was me):
“Pikachu has the same level, as an amount of stars you can see by looking at the sky…”
and
“Do you know how many HP does have Pikachu? It’s like a Number of Grem, but bigger!”
PLEASE tell me you're going to release those battle notes for all the Pokéwikis!
On a similar note, I've always wanted a whole list of episodes with evolution. Those were my favorite episodes as a child.
This is another obviously wrong theory
and other, actual Experts have already
found way better solutions before.
