I've been saying that for ages. That Ghost typing was a massive weakness in a region riddled with Dark types. But it honestly became my favourite starter. I've used it on S&S since & it kicks ass.
Infernape is pretty much the same, being really good in quite a few regions but falling to hisuian decidueye in Sinnoh, both Decidueye and Infernape are even the best in three regions
imma have to heavily disagree with you there. all starters are nuetral to the first trial , but then the first grand trial with hala , rowlet is strong against with its flying type , it then goes on to be strong against the water trial , weak to the fire trial , but then strong against the grass trial again due to its flying type , then have a small chance to evolve but most likley not , but its a glass cannon against olivia , then I know for a fact that it evolves right before the electric trial losing its weakness to it. its also a glass cannon to the ghost trial and has a weakness to nanu, decidueye can handle a bit of pokemon on lusamines team , and of course its nuetral to dragon , and fairy trials , and is super effective towards hapu's team. it has coverage for the fighting type elite four (if your playing sun and moon) weak to the steel guy, strong against the rock but more so without its flying type , glass cannons the ghost one, and weak to flying. it beats haus starter in the ultra games. and then you've won yourself the alola region
"Over-Leveling" as a phrase was created by Wh!ny B@bies who don't appreciate the effort of battling countless wild Pokemon (which can also help with EVs/IVs). For example: Everytime I replay the Kanto games I always choose Charmander and get it evolved to Charmeleon by the time I battle Brock. By the time I get to Misty it is at least lvl 25 and does excellent against her. As for Yellow Version it's more complicated but, by the end of the Game Pikachu & Charmander-Charizard are the only ones that stayed on my team the entire game.
@@morrigankasa570 Or it's in reference to game design, and fits all RPGs not just Pokemon. Anybody can take the time and effort to grind experience to overcome an obstacle in a RPG, but there is typically a level the designers expect you to be at any given time, which in Pokemon is indicated by the level of the pokemon your opponents tend to be using. Also, grinding EVs/IVs is clearly not the way the designers meant for you to play the game, since at least in the early generations those stats were hidden. And to be clear I am no stranger to Charmander solo runs, although I have never needed to evolve mine to beat Brock.
@@barethor5869I have defeated Brock with just a Charmander in original Red Version but was too touch & go for my tastes. I like evolving it and sweeping the entire Gym with little-no damage rather then defeating the Gym but taking a moderate amount of damage.
@@morrigankasa570 I'm glad you enjoy the game the way you want to, but it doesn't change the fact that you over leveled in order to remove the challenge. You should not insult others for enjoying a game the way they want, just as they should not insult you for enjoying it the way you want. My point was that over leveling is an observation of game design, which is readily visible in Pokemon by a comparison to the opponent. If you are a significantly higher level than your opponent then you are over leveled, if you are a significantly lower level than your opponent than you are under leveled, and prefering to play the game in either state is perfectly fine.
@@morrigankasa570 You can play however you want, but the video was comparing how all the starters do - and quite frankly if overlevelling was considered in the video, literally every starter could sweep just by being overlevelled and the question would be irrelevant. So the video seemed to be going by level-cap rules of levelling your pokemon up to a strong battle's highest level.
I think the most impressive part is Swampert and Primarina being the best in their native regions. Especially knowing Mudkip can technically solo it’s own region (not counting the forced double battle).
@@Slender_Man_186at the same time you only need fire if you want its super effective types. I played S&M, X&Y and ORAS without fire type moves and won easily cause there are other types who share the same points fire can cover as well. Flying and fighting covers all the important hits fire does while flying types are good due to good neutral hits and access to him fly
@@victory8928 yeah, but it just feels weird not having a good fire type until like Mt. Pyre where you can get Vulpix. If you start with Torchic, you can quickly get a shroomish for a grass type, and you more or less have your pick when it comes to water types but I usually go with Wingull for the early water and flying typing. You get all three of the starter types, two of which have fighting as a sub type when evolved, and the other has flying as a sub type early on. I also usually like to grab a Ralts because who tf decided to give players a psychic type on route 102?
@@emeraldjolteon1472 Hear me out. What if, instead of choice scarf... you give it Throat Spray for insta +2 special attack the first time you use Torch Song? Through most of the game, that combo is almost unbeatable.
Decidueye and Infernape doing some heavy lifting outta the starter crew going across the gens. With special shout out to Blaziken not slacking, and Primarina and Swampert maintaining their ownership of their crowns in their own regions.
Blaziken being good in Kalos really brings back good memories for me since there was an event Torchic with Blazikenite that was distributed back when the game first came out that I used wayyy more than my Chesnaught. It practically swept every battle for me
@@DonoZeek, or you could just NOT USE IT? The games never force you to use broken Pokémon like Mega Blaziken, Aegislash, Mega Mawile (in ORAS), Lati twins, or the Primals. They only force you to keep Rayquaza in your party in ORAS, which you don't even have to use in battle. That is such a petty reason to spread hate.
@samuelgarza2466 dude, another reason why I hate the game is that it's underusage of its theme. This region brought mega evolution yet it barely has any trainers that uses it. The Gym leaders are weak. Diatha has one of the worst team for a champion. She's supposed to be a superstar yet we barely see her. Delphox should have been a fairy type. The last gym leader should have been a Fairy type. This game overrated Charizard. Etc.
@@DonoZeek and also they should have given major trainers more competitive Pokemon teams because competitive play is getting more popular over time Competitive means giving movesets with more coverage, abilities, useful held items, fixed natures, and max EVs/IVs ILCA was able to make perfectly competitive bosses in BDSP, but why Game Freak couldn't do this in their Pokemon games
There's a new Johto Rom Hack called Grueiling Good where yes, you can get every starter. In face you even have the option to pick any starter from any reigon. Whitney's evil Miltank has scrappy as its ability and holds leftovers and its move are Body Slam, Milk Drink, Seismic Toss, and Toxic. As long as you outspeed and don't get poisoned or paralyzed you'll be fine
Meowscarada became my favorite grass starter, (maybe even more than sceptile) due sheerly to its whole moveset of high crit moves with a scope lens. It was super fun to use!
Seeing Primarina being crowned the Queen of Alola makes me so happy, it’s my favorite starter and I love seeing it dominating above the likes of starter titans like Greninja, Rillaboom, and Infernape.
It's name and appearance is awful tho and the new Pokemon don't come close to the creativity of the Pokemon in the first 6 gens. They just look so fake and too busy. Overly colorful and geometric-like physical appearances. They used to be more rounded and natural-looking, but now look like 80s cars or transformers

It’s to do with our tastebuds. You are aware everyone’s tastebuds are different right, and there are some out there that can taste stuff that most people are unable to detect that’s including water. As someone that doesn’t like plain water all that much (which I should mention most people that are adults that don’t like plain water are more tolerant of it than actually hating it) the taste I detect is more metallic and that flavour happens no matter of where the water actually comes from, even a water coming from straight from a clean clear stream still tastes metallic. Which I know some people are going to ask “how does it taste metallic when it doesn’t have any metal inside water?” Well that’s the issue we unfortunately do not know why ourselves (at least I don’t) which is why water is designated as something that has no flavour (which I should clarify for people, no flavour is still technically classified as a flavour) as no flavour isn’t just for stuff that literally has no flavour but more like for flavours that for our human tongue (both physical tongue & our languages) have no actual true way of describing or exactly detect on what is actually going on with it. Anyway because of our tastebuds a lot of us “don’t like plain water to drink” people it’s like we are drinking metal flavour drink which at the very least as a human yourself you can at least sympathise why it’s quite obvious why we more than likely don’t like it at that point, at the very least if we are going to taste something metallic at least put another flavour that pleasurable for our tongues in there for us. Anyway that’s more than likely the reason for why we don’t like plain water. At the very least I hope you can at least understand the concept of it, actually physically understanding it however is practically impossible because if someone doesn’t have something then it’s obvious why they cannot understand why.
I think them cutting out mons to make others have better animations is a fine thing, annoying cause they expect us to pay for 20 dollar subscription to transfer are pokemon to home, and then only 25% of hem appear in the games, but I think they should ALWAYS bring back starters cause there the most special to people
Another great thing about infernape for Jhoto is that it gets taunt as a chimchar so it would be great at stopping things like roost on pidgeotto, or even attract and milk drink on Miltank
For Maylene, even if you did have alolan decidueye, it's a ghost type, which is immune to Maylene's fighting types, and it will still have flying type coverage moves lake brave bird or pluck

In BDSP Chimchar got Power-up Punch too, so if you use that before Miltank comes out, Monferno can out speed with Mach Punch and OHKO before it can even do anything. The whole Chimchar line is epic.
@@TheVK23Wrong: It doesn't get Aerial Ace, not even as of Scarlet and Violet. It does get Acrobatics, but that's weaker and past its evolution level (46) and Infernape gets it even later (50). Also, Aerial Ace is not even an TM/TR in Galar, only in BDSP. EDIT: I meant Sword and Shield, not Scarlet and Violet.
I think a cool idea would be to move the starters around to regions they fit best. You could base it off the design of the region and see if certain starters fit the regions theme better than others.
Sounds cool here’s what I think Greninja, blastoise, blaziken, delphox, and chesnaught all have some bit of origin in Japan so the first four regions. Incineroar,Feraligatr, and torterra could all fit in unova. Empoleon and serperior have French designs, decidueye and primarina still fit in alola. Same with the galar starters and the paldean starters. Meganium and swampert would fit in a South American region. Charizard would make sense in galar as well. Sceptile and typlosion could be in a Africa/Madagascar region.
I got X & Y right when it came out with the free HA Mega Blaziken as a Mystery Gift. Zard is my favorite Mon, but I loved having the Greninja/Mega Blaziken/Mega Venusaur trio even if they were all handed to me along with Mega Lucario. As a child I just saw a stacked team.
I loved the design of the first gym in bw, the idea of a gym leader that changes their team based on yours is so awesome, its a good secondary tutorial on type matchups, id love to see it done as a later game gym that changes depending on your most used pokes
@@joynelbonet194 Yep. You can test 'em out because Indigo Disk is going to bring back _all_ of the missing starters. From Bulbasaur to Popplio, they're all coming back.
didn't he admit to only being able to see the pokémon and not anything about it's movepool and stuff like that? it was right around the release day, I remember that much
Due to how early that video was (The video was posted on November 26, 2022, just one week after the games' launch), I assume this was before the stats, movepools and others were known.
I used to not care for Meowscarada at all when I first saw it and for most of the time before release but it grew on me more and more until release where I chose Sprigatito immediately without hesitation. Scarada is now my third favorite starter (behind Serpieror and Blaziken). Sprigatito was my immediate favorite first form, though.
What I'm taking away from this is that Rowlet is REALLY DAMN GOOD in a story playthrough...in everything but the region it spawned in (says the person that picked Litten every time she played through Alola)
The issue is the ghost type in Alola was not useful as there were A LOT of dark and/or ghost types running around to punish you. I'm more surprised the Alolans were able to "keep up" in general since the Alolan speed nerf (gamefreak decided to make like every pokemon in that region slow for no reason) is far more exploited when fighting pokemon outside the region.
I’m so proud of my boys, Infernape and Decidueye are my favorite starters of the bunch and I’m happy to see them finally being noticed (specially Decidueye, he needs more love)
A quick note on Hisuian Decidueye in Sinoh. Yeah, it stomps most of the gyms, but you've got to watch out for some secondary typings, like Candice's Froslass, which is straight up immune to the fighting type you're relying on here. Still probably the best pick for the region, though.
@@azazel2205Hidden abilities were disregarded in the video, theyre unobtainable in playthroughs. Otherwise, Blaziken and maybe some of the protean users wouldve taken most of the regions.
Swampert is my all time favorite because I received Gen 3 as a Christmas gift the year it came out, when I was 6. Since Mudkip was my very first Pokemon, I have a big attachment to it. All that to say, I was so pleased to see nothing can do better than it, even with every starter available!
As an avid Swampert enjoyer (it has been my favorite Pokemon ever since the very day of its generation's release), I love it when people agree that it's a hecking strong choice in battle!
Swampert can do well in all regions Kanto: Brock, Lt Surge, Erika if you teach it Ice Beam, Most of Koga, Blaine, Giovanni (2 Boss and 1 Gym), Loreli's Ice types with Rockslide, Bruno's Onix, Agatha, Lance with Ice Beam and Rockslide) 12 Johto: Resist Miltank's Rollout, Jasmine's Magneton, Pryce's Piloswine, Clarie (Except for her Kingdra), Lance again, then the same gyms for Kanto except for Giovanni, and Red 14 Sinnoh: Roark, Maylene's Lucario, Crasher Wake's Gyarados with a Rock type move, Fantina's Drifblim with Ice or Rock coverage, Byron, Candace's Weavile with Fighting or Rock coverage, Volkner, Aaron's Drapion and Bug/Flying Mons, Bertha, Flint's Fire types, and Cynthia's Garchomp, Togekiss, and Lucario 13 Unova: Most of Burgh if you have a Rock type move, Elesa (With rock or Ice type moves for her Emolga), Clay, Skyla with Ice Beam or Rockslide, Brycen with Rockslide or Fighting coverage, then Drayden/Iris with Ice Beam In B2W2, almost the same except it can take care of Roxy, and help a bit with Alder and Iris. 6 in BW then around the same in B2W2 Kalos: Grant, Korrina's Lucario and even Hawlucha with Ice coverage, Ramos with Ice coverage, Clemont, Valerie's Mawile, Olympia's Sigilyph, Wulfric with Rock and Fighting moves, Maliva, Wikstrom, Drasna, and Diantha.11 Alola: Kiawe, Sophocles, Olivia, Hapu, Molyane, and Kahii 6 Galar (Thanks to TRs from Raid Battles and Watts it can get strong moves early on): Kabu, Gordie, Melanie with Rock and Fighting Coverage, Raihan, Klara, Leon, Chariman Rose, Peony 8 Paldea: Iono, Rika, Larry, Hassel, Geeta, Mela, Atticus, Klawf, Bombirdier, Orthworm with Fighting moves, Great Tusk/Iron Treads, Al Turo & Al Sada, all if not most of the teachers at the Academy: At least 12
By naming the Fire/Fighting starters a lot you actually proof why I love that type combo for Fire starters. It's an amazing typing. Not to mention Infernape and Emboar are my 2 most favorite starters ever. Never choosing a different starter in their regions.
That's part of the reason it's also one of the most disliked typings. They kept getting steamrolled out and they kept being universally good. Imagine a fire chicken being good in a region with a water or fire/ground villain team and water champion. Not to mention the regular gyms which included Rock, Fire with Ground, a Normal type with the same BST as the box art legends, rock/psychic, and potentially water. It was just too much, and Infernape proves it still is.
@@LilyMaeBlossom Tbh... Blaziken is only good with Speed Boost. Not with Blaze. With their normal ability Infernape and Emboar are way better than Blaziken. With Hidden it's the other way around. Then Emboar is the worst and Blaziken the best.
The one thing I would add is that I think Quaquavel is better than Decidueye in Sinnoh While it matches up poorly into Gardenia, checks for Grass types are _really_ common. Beyond that, it matches up better into Roark and Candice, and gives you a favorable match-up for Flint's team More importantly, though, it can boost its speed against Cynthia with Aqua Step, which makes it one of the few starters that can outspeed her Garchomp without needing to run Scarf or a speed-boosting move. Ice Spinner KOs even through a Yache berry, and it can take out Lucario and Roserade pretty effortlessly It's even better if you can get Hidden Abilities, since Aqua Step + Moxie makes just about every fight completely free, but even without HA I think it beats out Decidueye
I think I'd have to agree here. Though, defensively I think the resists Grass gets are also important to consider. Grass/Fight has some useful resists that makes it able to safely stay in on some threats that Quaquavel may not be able to, though Quaquavel is probably bulkier than Hisuian Decidueye so that may be a moot point.
I'm gonna say that Primarina should be a contender for the best Johto starter as well, Fairy type is very useful there and Johto didn't have that much choices for good Fairy pokemon
Is fairy that strong in Johto? Also, Johto just has an abysmal level curve and you have the fairy type Primarina at like, Clair. And water alone (which Primarina mostly will be) is just normal in Johto. Not to mention team rocket being chock full of poison types and the rival using a steel type and two poison types. It is brilliant against the E4/Champ since it blasts through Bruno, Karen and Lance and is just brutalized by Koga, but that is so late in the game that imo the other starters' strengths are way more prominent and earlier.
@@youtube-kit9450 I mean it being late in the game doesn't mean there is much more substitute that can be used, Most of Fairy type that can be found in Johto isn't that good offensively, Even something like Togetic couldn't evolved into Togekiss yet in Johto

I’m hoping to see the return of Bug Catcher Mikey, particularly in Alola, where you get more absurdly powerful Bugs. Plus, he’d have serious respect for Guzma. US/UM is the better choice in this case, for two reasons. First, you can gets Bugs that provide defensive coverage against all their weaknesses (they’re still vulnerable to Rock in regular S/M). Second, he can use the Ultra Wormhole to catch a Buzzwole or Pheromosa before the postgame.
I picked Rowlet as my starter in Moon because it's the coolest of the bunch but got sad because it has the least advantage in Alola, so I'm glad it has some advantage in a different region (albeit sharing the spotlight with its Hisuian line).
I picked Litten As my starter because I love cats and also love fire types, I didn’t even know it turned into Incineroar until it did. Even though I’m pretty sure it’s underrated, Incineroar carried me in Ultra Sun always. Probably the only starter that I have a connection with.
Love that Chimchar, Rowlet and Torchic hypothetically dominate every other starter in most games. 😂😂😂😂 Great video btw! You’re probably one of the most creative poketuber I’ve ever watched : D
@@ryzon7277 Your opinion is invalid. Mikey's way of determining which is best is also just opinion & his own biased determination process. The best way to decide is to look at the whole game including Post-Game AND move type coverage.
Yknow, it makes sense how meowscarada absolutely destroys kanto, there are a lot of birds (even the legendaries are birds) and rats being common in kanto (wild pokemons and the random trainers having them as well), and cats happen to hunt these two animals irl, so like, the grass kitty simply gets the zoomies and the entire region is cooked
Ok but can we respect just how powerful the Infernape line ends up being? Even in the regions it doesn't win, it's a STRONG OPTION. Mudkip might sweep its own region, but Infernape is nuts.
blaziken is litteraly better, what this youtuber doesnt consider is the pokemon used around the starter, theres way more than enough pokemon which can use substitute and setup a swords dance speed boost blaziken which at that point solos any team while although infernape is faster in most cases, there are pokemon who can outspeed him, ESPECIALLY IF YOUR UNDERLEVELED swords dance + speed boost should get blaziken upto a pokemon which outmatches it in level while infernape has no way to counter this
@@sheenakr7616 I agree it is better in those circumstances But for talking normal play through, it will not have speed boost which is the only reason it outclassed infernape since generation 4 Plus all the points you basically made. But if you can get speed boost, then by all means.

I always name my mudkip "Tsunami" as they are great waves caused by earthquakes. Also Swampert is not only good for the gyms, it represents the story of Hoenn being both ground and water representing both land and sea.
I thought "how is Fuecoco the best original Paldea starter?" until you mentioned the Fighting type perks and I understood why I found Quaquaval to be more useful for most of the game.
This was definitely very interesting. I absolutely expected Swampert to appear more often here than it did, maybe because it's just SO dominant in Hoenn that it felt like that'd apply to a lot of regions
I feel like it definitely have beat Incineroar for B2W2 since Marshtomp would have been good against Roxie’s poison types, Clay, Elesa, and the multiple Colress fights.
@lillipup_tamer1148 Tbf, Incineroar also beats Colress; Marshtomp would also only resists Roxie since Koffing has Levitate and Whirlipede is bug type, while being near useless against Burgh thanks to Swadloon and Leavanny.
@@microwavedpepsiKanto is basically the perfect home for Grass-Types. Every Type Grass beats is a required Gym, as are both its resistances. Swampert really only gets to dominate when Grass isn't mandatory, which is really only true in Hoenn as of now.
CHARIZARD OR BLAZIKEN ARE THE BEST FINAL FORM STARTERS FOR HOENN!!!!!! IN EVERY EMERALD PLAYTHROUGH I'VE DONE TORCHIC-BLAZIKEN HAS BEEN THE EASIEST!!!!!!! Sure Mudkip-Swampert are 2nd best, the only gym Swampert is better then Blaziken is Mossdeep Gym specifically since it's a Double Battle. If was Single Battle then Blaziken still would dominate. Of course, I always get my starter to lvl 20 minimum before the 1st gym. By the Elite Four they are a minimum of lvl 60.
Monferno also gets power-up punch so assuming it learns it at the same level as it does in BDSP, then the demon cow ain’t surviving that battle Also thanks for the vid, I actually thought of that question myself quite recently
As a note on the issue of Sinnoh and Hisuian forms, it might be worth considering that in BDSP (which, it's safe to assume, was created with at least access to information about Hisuian forms) Cyndaquil still becomes regular Typhlosion, so we can probably assume that whatever causes the change in evolution is reduced or absent. (Personally, I prefer "reduced," since it implies that in universe there's some place (probably either Spear Pillar or an as yet undiscovered part of Mt Coronet) where it still is possible...)
Yeah, i thought the same, multiple hisuian forms talk about adapting to the cold and harsh seas and winds of hisui and well...sinnoh is not Siberia of Japan anymore so decidueye(that specifically mentioned adapting to the cold) wouldnt be hisuian anymore but alolan
I love the idea of a trainer traveling into the depths of Sinnoh chasing a legend of an ancient form of Typhlosion to see if they can evolve their Quilava that way
Kanto it can help with Brock, Koga's Bug types, Blaine, Giovanni (Boss & Gym), Loreli, and Bruno It can help in Johto against Bugsy and Morty with its Flying type Coverage and even the Dark Elite Four member, then in Kanto take care of Brock, Erika with flying moves, and Blaine. Hoenn it can take of Roxanne, Brawly with its flying coverage, Norman, Sydney, Pheobe, and even Drake and Steven. Sinnoh it takes care of Roark, Maylene with flying moves, Byron, Candace, Bertha, Flint, Cynthia's Lucario and Garchomp. Unova it can help with Lenora, most of Burgh with Flying coverage, Clay, Brycen, Drayden/Iris, Marhsal, Grimsley. Kalos it helps with Viola's Bug types with flying coverage, Grant, Korinna, Wulfric, Malva, Wikstrom, and Drasna Alola it helps with Totom Araquniad, Kiawe, Totom Komm-o, Hala, Olivia, Nanu, Hapu, and Molayne Galar it can take care of Kabu, Bea with fighting moves, Gordie, Melony, Piers/Marnie, Raihan
This is actually really cool because if they ever make games with all the starters (not dlc’s) then you can use these starters on a play through not to mention it probably would be fun

About Johto,Chimchar actually gained Power Up Punch in Gen 8 (BDSP),so you could use a Mach Punch,Agility,Power Up Punch and Dig Monferno, holding a Charcoal, you could potentially sweep Whitney since it could use Mach Punch to attack first, then use Agility to boost it's speed, and use Power Up Punch 6 times.
Can’t wait to see Mikey and Miltank finally settle their differences and work together to win whatever game they have to partner up for. And I guess the gaming channel hitting 1M subs would be cool too, I guess. 😆
This is why I want monotype pokemon to have higher STAB than dual type ones (you know, how terastalize helps more if you're already that type?), since they're more focused. Because right now dual-type pokemon have the big advantage of getting 2x as much STAB bonus options as mono ones. Based off the various side games, I'm inclined to lower dual type STAB to 1.25x for each of their two move types, and leave monotypes with 1.5x for their one move type.
Currently doing a playthough of platinum with a miltank 'starter'. The ability to hit ghost types with normal moves was certainly a fun realization when i got to the 3rd gym. Looking forward to the miltank only run, hope you'll enjoy this rather fun discount blissy.
Primarina being the only Fairy Type starter gives it a big leg up on the competition in any game where Fairy is good. Fighting being a powerful Type in general especially with a good secondary Type gave any Fighting Type starter a huge advantage here. Not surprised by how common Blaziken and Infernape showed up here tbh, but Hisuian Decidueye was a surprise. I'm actually surprised Quaquaval didn't show up more with how strong it's Type combination and signature move are.
With hidden abilities, I'd argue that Greninja, Meowscarada and Cinderace can do a lot better in many of the regions, seeing how you've been mentioning "If it has speed boost, Torchic, if not, which is more likely, Chimchar" any time the monkey has won. So honorific mention to those three in probably most if not all regions if Protean is available.
Probably the only reason he mentioned torchics hidden ability so often is because he's directly comparing its speed to chimchar, and didnt want comment saying "but torchic gets speed boost". I doubt he was actually considering hidden abilities.
@@vivil2533 Except he literally says "Assuming you don't get a hidden ability torchic. You get a torchic, and thus a Blaziken with Speed boost, then that just wins". That's a quote. So, if it is worth mentioning, even if it is for the reason you gave (so people won't complain)... why not offer the same courtesy to the three starters that can BREAK any game, because they can be almost any type at any given moment? I'd be happy with just a small disclaimer like "By the way, if you get Protean or Libero, the starters that get it break the game, so we'll ignore that ability for the sake of having an actual argument the times Blaziken with Speed boost doesn't break it even harder"
@@lenlimbo you ignored the part where I mentioned directly comparing speed. Saying that chimchar is faster then torchic is a sentence that will put the thought into people's heads, so he clarifies, that yes speed boost is true but it doesn't count. The point is that he is talking about something very closely related, and reminding the audience that no it doesn't count. Imagine every time he says Chimchar is faster, somebody in the audince goes "erm actually speed boost makes Torchic faster" cause that's probably exactly what's going through his mind. He clearly said multiple times that you don't get your hidden ability, so you shouldn't be considering it, he's just reminding the audience when relevant.
@@vivil2533 And you are ignoring the part that he actually says "if you get it, this, if not, that". Sure, it is because of the speed... and because with its "speed issue" solved, Blaziken is the better mon most of the time. Specially because there is ONE game where it wasn't true thanks to the other characteristics Infernape actually brings to the table (evolving 2 levels sooner) So, answer me. What stops me from saying "Actually, Meowscarada, with the right attacks, is super effective against EVERY battle because it has access to protean, so you don't need to juggle not evolving Dartrix too soon to have the right type", to make an example? Because it is exactly the same circunstance you are saying with people complaining about Speed Boost. And I, in fact, kinda did, so not so much an example but something ALREADY happened. So yeah, if he is going to consider Speed Boost, if only to silence complains, he should have done the same with Protean, because that ability is just that broken.
This is super fun! 😊 Imo, I think you may be overvaluing typing and undervaluing stats. Some of the mono-type starters, like Cinderace, are really good because of their stats and coverage moves. While they may not get stab as much, being able to hit harder, go faster, and/or survive longer can sometimes be better than hitting super effectively with STAB. Except Chikorita. Chikorita is good for hugs and adorbs only. 😊
14:16 The Sneasel thing is not the same as Decidueye because Hisian Sneasel evolved over time into Johtoian Sneasel while a Dartrix would probably evolve into Hisuian Decidueye since it is in Sinnoh/Hisui.
Hey now. Early usefulness is one thing, endgame is another. I've found that the sadly not water/dark Intelleon has some incredible skills. Fast enough to hit first, strong enough to OHKO, and great coverage. Snipe Shot, Shadow Ball, Dark Pulse, and Ice Beam? As long as there is speed, there is power.
I think most grass type starters are so much in disadvantage against Crasher wake in sinnoh. The thing is, Gyarados resists grass type moves. And Gyarados has ice fang. Also Floatzel has ice fang which destroys all grass starters. The only grass starter which can handle this gym solo is Sceptile/Serperior bcoz it outspeeds them or Mega Venusaur bcoz of it's ability Thick fat.
Fun fact, the Kalos Torchic stuff is actually possible if you got the Torchic promo at the start of the gen. And it had Speed Boost.

But it honestly became my favourite starter. I've used it on S&S since & it kicks ass.
Hahaha was thinking the same. It wasnt even mentioned in its region 😂
@@handy_jack118 they're talking about the results in the video since decidueye wasn't chosen as the best in Alola
"You shouldn't have a fully evolved starter by this gym..."
Bold of you to assume I don't overlevel my starter.

That is such a petty reason to spread hate.
@samuelgarza2466 dude, another reason why I hate the game is that it's underusage of its theme. This region brought mega evolution yet it barely has any trainers that uses it. What kind of psychopath drinks warm water
Especially in the night around 12-2 Am
Cold water is the best drink there is.
Warm water is the devil.

I think a cool idea would be to move the starters around to regions they fit best. You could base it off the design of the region and see if certain starters fit the regions theme better than others.
Sounds cool here’s what I think
Greninja, blastoise, blaziken, delphox, and chesnaught all have some bit of origin in Japan so the first four regions.

Due to how early that video was (The video was posted on November 26, 2022, just one week after the games' launch), I assume this was before the stats, movepools and others were known.
Well, it's mostly based only by their type and appearance, so it's fair I must say
I used to not care for Meowscarada at all when I first saw it and for most of the time before release but it grew on me more and more until release where I chose Sprigatito immediately without hesitation. Sprigatito is a cat, i'm a cat person, the option is easy
I love that meowscarada just absolutely dominates when it comes to the confusion that is the Kanto Type damage
Litten was an adorable little baby.

Power up punch on Monferno is also busted. The more you use it the higher your attack stat so eventually even if she’s heal stalling you’ll OHKO her
The one thing I would add is that I think Quaquavel is better than Decidueye in Sinnoh
While it matches up poorly into Gardenia, checks for Grass types are _really_ common. Beyond that, it matches up better into Roark and Candice, and gives you a favorable match-up for Flint's team
More importantly, though, it can boost its speed against Cynthia with Aqua Step, which makes it one of the few starters that can outspeed her Garchomp without needing to run Scarf or a speed-boosting move. Ice Spinner KOs even through a Yache berry, and it can take out Lucario and Roserade pretty effortlessly
It's even better if you can get Hidden Abilities, since Aqua Step + Moxie makes just about every fight completely free, but even without HA I think it beats out Decidueye

Agreed. Maybe the regular Micheal should invite them all to a dinner party. Seeing them all interact could be very funny.

Great video btw! You’re probably one of the most creative poketuber I’ve ever watched : D
Same they are some of my favourites
Rowlet supremacy continues!!!

@@ryzon7277 Your opinion is invalid. Mikey's way of determining which is best is also just opinion & his own biased determination process. The best way to decide is to look at the whole game including Post-Game AND move type coverage.
I’m glad that Meowscarada is getting some credit. I received a Sprigatito from trade and had used it on my Champion team as a Meowscarada
@@dylanzlol7293 yeah
But Arcanine can stop it.
I used Meowscarada, and I can confirm that it is one of the best Pokémon I have ever used. Edit: I’m famous! :D
Grookey would like to have a word
Meowscarda won me my draft league championship. So I completely agree
It's also the coolest starter of all time, with easily the best design
I love seeing my good cat get love. I had him ever since he was a little Sprigatito and I’m very happy to see his species appreciated.
@@GreatestGrookey Grookey is amazing.
Ok but can we respect just how powerful the Infernape line ends up being? Even in the regions it doesn't win, it's a STRONG OPTION. Mudkip might sweep its own region, but Infernape is nuts.
Haven’t checked out this channel in a long time but positively astounded by the upgrade in quality since I was last around, great video!
2 of my favorite starters are Infernape and Decidueye and I'm glad they're one of the best choices.
It's nice to see Primarina get some praise. Popplio was my first pokemon ever, and it is still my favorite! Thank you! I love your videos! ❤😊
It's always been very good. People are just sleeping on it and I know the reason why lol 😂

I'm playing Pokémon since Gen 1 and Primarina is still one of, if not my favorite Pokémon of all-time :) You surely are not alone
Personally all three are amazing…
Alas…it’s true
Primarina is the best
Decidueye is 2nd
With Incineroar being 3rd
@@lostsilver9215W
You should do a video where all Pokémon are around in each game and what would be the best team in each.
Props to infernape for being a great starter pokemon 🎉
blaziken is litteraly better, what this youtuber doesnt consider is the pokemon used around the starter, theres way more than enough pokemon which can use substitute and setup a swords dance speed boost blaziken which at that point solos any team while although infernape is faster in most cases, there are pokemon who can outspeed him, ESPECIALLY IF YOUR UNDERLEVELED swords dance + speed boost should get blaziken upto a pokemon which outmatches it in level while infernape has no way to counter this
@@sheenakr7616 I agree it is better in those circumstances But for talking normal play through, it will not have speed boost which is the only reason it outclassed infernape since generation 4 Plus all the points you basically made. But if you can get speed boost, then by all means.
@@sheenakr7616 whats the point of the extra hustle of speed boost when with infernape you can setup sword dance get to 1/3 hp activate blaze 1.5x attack boost +2 attack. your already faster than most pokemons. just spam swords dance, by chance if something else is faster use mach punch.

Ah yes, the elite FOUR has 3 members 18:48
I always name my mudkip "Tsunami" as they are great waves caused by earthquakes. Also Swampert is not only good for the gyms, it represents the story of Hoenn being both ground and water representing both land and sea.
I thought "how is Fuecoco the best original Paldea starter?" until you mentioned the Fighting type perks and I understood why I found Quaquaval to be more useful for most of the game.
Back when you always made these types of thumbnails and videos I hope I can see more in these style from your Chanel.
FR
Bro this video's editing is incredible. I can't get over how much MandJTV has grown over the years
This was definitely very interesting. I absolutely expected Swampert to appear more often here than it did, maybe because it's just SO dominant in Hoenn that it felt like that'd apply to a lot of regions
I feel like it definitely have beat Incineroar for B2W2 since Marshtomp
would have been good against Roxie’s poison types, Clay, Elesa, and the multiple Colress fights.
@lillipup_tamer1148 Tbf, Incineroar also beats Colress; Marshtomp would also only resists Roxie since Koffing has Levitate and Whirlipede is bug type, while being near useless against Burgh thanks to Swadloon and Leavanny.
Totally expected it to be the best starter for Kanto.
11:44 Vsause Music plays
Who thought that Decidueye was this insanely good in other games.
27:15 Note how all the Alola Starters have at least one region. While Decidueye (Both Forms counted) and Infernape are tied for the most with 3
Monferno also gets power-up punch so assuming it learns it at the same level as it does in BDSP, then the demon cow ain’t surviving that battle
Also thanks for the vid, I actually thought of that question myself quite recently
I adored the background of Blaziken being unable to eat the sweet treat Torchics. One of my favorite scenes ever, so precious.
I can’t believe he didn’t say “hydrate or die” during the sponsor segment
Ye but that would mean sneazle would become hisui
I love the idea of a trainer traveling into the depths of Sinnoh chasing a legend of an ancient form of Typhlosion to see if they can evolve their Quilava that way
18:44 "two of the three Elite Four"
🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
What
something to consider for Gen 3 too, is that Tate & Liza pack rock/psychic types Solrock/Lunatone making Swampert an even better pick!
I was expecting Quaquaval for a few of these due to having the advantage of Water and the all important Fighting type.
I thought it would be better than Primarina in Alola since it also has that "strong against all Kahunas" thing
Kanto it can help with Brock, Koga's Bug types, Blaine, Giovanni (Boss & Gym), Loreli, and Bruno
It can help in Johto against Bugsy and Morty with its Flying type Coverage and even the Dark Elite Four member, then in Kanto take care of Brock, Erika with flying moves, and Blaine.
Kalos it helps with Viola's Bug types with flying coverage, Grant, Korinna, Wulfric, Malva, Wikstrom, and Drasna
Alola it helps with Totom Araquniad, Kiawe, Totom Komm-o, Hala, Olivia, Nanu, Hapu, and Molayne
Galar it can take care of Kabu, Bea with fighting moves, Gordie, Melony, Piers/Marnie, Raihan
i love how rowlet is great in every game except for it's own
This is actually really cool because if they ever make games with all the starters (not dlc’s) then you can use these starters on a play through not to mention it probably would be fun
For years I've said they needed to create a Pokemon Game that has EVERY REGION, EVERY POKEMON, EVERY TM, EVERY HM, AND SO ON!!!!! WITHOUT NEEDING TO TRADE TO EVOLVE!!!!!!
TRADE EVOLUTIONS ARE THE WORST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@morrigankasa570A game with every region would be literally impossible with the modern system, you might find a watered down version in some 2d rom hacks, but lower your expectations for actual official games.

i’m happy that two of my three favourite starters (meowscarada and primarina) were able to hold their own:’)
I'm so very happy that Swampert was the best overall in its starting region. As my absolute favorite and first starter, it deserves that victory. I'd also like to note that of all the starters, only the Alola starters have their entire trio in the ranking. Knew I liked those guys for a reason.
You'd just power up punch set up before Miltank even comes out and then OHKO it with a like +2 or +3 Mach Punch

6:28 Mikey's hatred against miltank is already showing
Can’t wait to see Mikey and Miltank finally settle their differences and work together to win whatever game they have to partner up for.
And I guess the gaming channel hitting 1M subs would be cool too, I guess. 😆
Gen 1 section is basically what to pick for radical red
This is why I want monotype pokemon to have higher STAB than dual type ones (you know, how terastalize helps more if you're already that type?), since they're more focused. Because right now dual-type pokemon have the big advantage of getting 2x as much STAB bonus options as mono ones. Based off the various side games, I'm inclined to lower dual type STAB to 1.25x for each of their two move types, and leave monotypes with 1.5x for their one move type.
i see what you mean but let's not forget mono types usually are better defensive because in most cases, having two types gives you more weaknesses.
@@natiprot69 Thing is, it also gives you more resistances and immunities, which tends to balance that out (if not be BETTER).
Rowlet dominating as it should
This sounds like a really fun idea if they ever did a New game+ type thing for Pokemon games
I'd like to point out that we would also have to figure out what a pokemon's special stat would be in gen 1 for that gen's battle mechanics
If one had to be picked ig you could just pick whatever between the sp attack and sp def is higher? Obviously flawed but it’d be the most consistent
Well he said he was using gen 9 battle mechanics at the start of the video
Currently doing a playthough of platinum with a miltank 'starter'. The ability to hit ghost types with normal moves was certainly a fun realization when i got to the 3rd gym. Looking forward to the miltank only run, hope you'll enjoy this rather fun discount blissy.

6:52 that is very sad. My condolences Mikey.
6:40 would love to see a Miltank and Drowzee playthrough up for consideration and not just a solo Miltank playthrough.
Also, you could cheese almost anything with gen 6 Protean Greninja
Specially because there is ONE game where it wasn't true thanks to the other characteristics Infernape actually brings to the table (evolving 2 levels sooner)
So, answer me.
I’m glad that some of the best starters infernape and decidueye do so well in other games
14:16 The Sneasel thing is not the same as Decidueye because Hisian Sneasel evolved over time into Johtoian Sneasel while a Dartrix would probably evolve into Hisuian Decidueye since it is in Sinnoh/Hisui.
For the first time I chose grass with gen 9 and LOVED Meowscarada so I'd love to use it in every game.
Same! 🤩
I think earlygame usefulness is better because you have less team options at that point.
Congrats to Swampert and Primarina for keeping their crowns!
