Ok... Just did mine thanks to this guy. Mine was 42 on Amazon.
Yes, video was great. Very clear instructions, and I think I ordered the same part from Amazon as well. Other videos explained the same thing, but his video was the most clear and precise
Thank you. I’m glad I could help
Good job, explaining how it comes apart.Thank you
Thank you off axis build, your video helped me fix my moms neighbors saturn.
Glad I could help. Thanks for your support.
Thanks for the video. Very clear explanation. Good lighting, too.
A tip: If you can't find the 5.5mm socket for those cover bolts, a 7/32 " long reach socket on a 1/4" drive is just about identical and worked like a charm.
Good tip. Thank you for supporting my channel. I’m glad you were able to your fixed.
Good tip
Had a set of those small screw drivers. Like 40 magnet tips set. It had a little socket in the set that worked.
TYSM
This was a typical problem with all GM passenger cars around this era. GM claims the owner carries to much weight with other keys and remotes om the key ring. Great info video.
Yea I found that to be true on all cars. That’s why I try to only have my ignition key in the cylinder and all other keys somewhere else.
@@OFFAxisBuilds So very true. I would take off pounds if keys off customers key rings when the cars would come into the dealership. After a while yet get over trying to help people out with advise about this topic. Catch you on the next video
Thanks for your great comments and checking out my videos.
Thank u for providing this DIY
Thanks!
so this is actually the ignition lock tumbler not the switch.
still helpful I believe I need to do both
Yes you are correct I will change the title. I misspoke in the video.
Mine was so worn out I could pull the key out while the car was running.
Me too! I had so many brass shavings inside! Been putting it off for three years
“Lets see if we can start this guy”
Cuts out the part where he starts it
Thank you
Damn the whole reason I was here is I lost my key lol was so disappointed when I got to the part where you need the key :(
Good video
I cant get the key to go in because some idiot tried to steal my car with a screwdriver. How would I get the cylinder out in that case?
Honestly I’m not sure. You might want to get the whole thing
Could you make another video where you don't speed up the installation of the cylinder back in.. do you just push it back in without the Allen key or is it needed to put the cylinder back in.?
It just slides back in. But you do need to give it a good push so it locks in
Do I have to have a key to replace it? I lost mine. Just wondering if I have to turn it into accel position or if it can still be removed without doing that.
Get this ignition cylinder kit instead. It comes with lock wafers that will permit you (or your locksmith) to key the new cylinder up to match the original one. Then have a locksmith cut you a key by code from wafer numbers that you used. This unit is USA made. STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS US525L. It does not come with a key. The OE GM ignition cylinders are not particularly reliable, though they are still available as an option.
When i go to pull out the cylinder the key just comes out and the cylinder stays in. Tips?
It should come out with it. You will need to turn the key back to off position to pull it out. Hold the barrel and turn it.
what esle i can use to get igniton in acc mode to remove screwdriver not working for me plaese help ?
Although I do appreciate ypu video this is NOT changing the ignition switch but the lock cylinder instead. PLEASE fix it so it's correct. Ty for this video of an ignition lock cylinder
Actually it is an ignition switch.
Mine
dont have sweet spot in my saturn it locked up and not ever got it to turn.
What is the trick to getting this back in????
Could be much shorter and a little bit clearer but still Like for being helpful
thank you but it went into mouse mode when I was trying to learn the right way to re-install back in.
+Josh Knoxville sorry mouse mode?
@@OFFAxisBuilds same problem for me. I cannot get mine back in. Is there a trick????
It's an ignition lock cylinder not an ignition switch but great video. I've been a tech for over 15 years and this damn cylinder did not wanna come out. It was f'ed
They are a pain
Great Video but can you get the cylinder out without the key? I lost my only key
Honestly I believe there is a way to pull the whole thing out and replace the whole ignition, but in this video I explain how to just replace the guts.
I think such an option would negate it as a lock
there is a way, but it's pretty rough. you have to replace the entire ignition OR drill out the original lock cylinder and force it into the acc/run position.
Thanks next time don't do any pain killers your high
Mine stuck in lock I can't get it to accessory or run can I still replace it
Try tapping on the key with a screwdriver handle while turning the key at the same time. Don't go ape shit just firm taps
Who makes the kit?
Douglas Wells this was a Dorman ignition key. I will get the amazon link for you shortly.
That is called an ignition cylinder, not a switch. FYI
Yes thank you.
Does this kit work on the Saturn 2001 L200?
I’m not really sure. Amazon says it will Vehicle model years this part fits: Saturn SC1: 2000, 2001, 2002 Saturn SC2: 2000, 2001, 2002 Saturn SL: 2000, 2001, 2002 Saturn SL1: 2000, 2001, 2002 Saturn SL2: 2000, 2001, 2002 Saturn SW2: 2000, 2001 Saturn Vue: 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007
Nope
That’s too bad.
I hope you can get the right part.
@@OFFAxisBuilds saturn l200 update… autozone sells replacement cylinder, albeit uncoded without keys. Its totally do able with some patience and a good pick tool to remove each piece. Just gotta take the old ones out of broken cylinder one by one and write down the numbers for “key code” then put new one together accordingly. Locksmiths will happily re code cylinder for you if you bring to them.
DISCONNECT BATTERY!!!, remove steering wheel/ ignition shroud. Pop off plastic ignition bezel. Locate cylinder release hole On TOP of ignition in access hole (2 inches from keyhole or so) small allen key or pick to depress the pin. L200 needs to be turned to crank position to release, not acc or on but actually crank position, thats why its important to DISCONNECT BATTERY!!! Cylinder will release and you can take old one and new one to locksmith to be rebuilt for old keys.
Is it the same as a 2004. I had the same problem, wouldn't turn, replaced it once at a shop, now someone took my ignition. Not able to make a ignition key.
Wait, u could probably use the door key to make a ignition key? Please, please, save me! Do tell. Comment back please ASAP.
So if the door key is the same as your ignition then you should be able to use your door key to start the car. But if the ignition is completely missing you will need to replace the ignition and then either have two keys for the car or go get the ignition rekeyed to match your door. It would probably be cheaper to just have two keys.
What hole ?! I dont see anything on my cylinder, Its solid. I found it, so after about an hour, no go. Not easy at all. Welp, to the locksmith down the street. Things are Never as easy as they look on UA-cam. Been there Many times.
Oh, THAT hole. I guess I got confused with another video for an earlier model year. There's a difference. Oh well, should have paid attention. Now I need another column. Ruined the cylinder carriage trying to get it out when the key locked-up. That'll teach me ?! Lol.
This is ignition lock cylinder. Not ignition switch.
Your right I was mistaken on the video.
That is not the ignition switch
Yes thank you someone else pointed that out. It’s an ignition actuator switch.
this is not an ignition switch
Your right thanks for pointing that out.
