OG Wasteland is such a motherfucker of a game. For those who think Fallout 1 was brutal, Wasteland 1 is even meaner with all its ENDLESS random encounters with scum and punks.
@@TriangleCity yeah, Wasteland can be a game breaking bitch sometimes. I like how in Wasteland 2 they have fully functional nuclear warhead in Ranger HQ and you can casually activate it and go endgame. Such a nice touch.
the fact that technically they're a prewar faction has always made it more understandable they go toe toe with BoS Paladins on the regular. They have built up literal centuries of mythos, culture, and training.
I think their weaponry and tactics also make a lot of sense in that regard. Desert stealth, survival and marksmanship are all specialties of the rangers; A BoS Paladin revving a gatling laser is a lot less scary when they’re a quarter-mile away from you, they have no idea where you are, and you’re staring at them through the scope of a .50 caliber AMR. I think anti-material rifles probably stand right next to gauss rifles when it comes to being the best-suited ballistic weapons in the series for blowing straight through power armor. Given what we see of the Nevada Brotherhood’s strict adherence to their codex and overall refusal to adapt, I think guerilla tactics and the NCR military’s heavy use of elite, highly-trained snipers like the Rangers and First Recon would have been a nightmare for the brotherhood’s heavy troops during their conflict with them.
I always liked the Desert Rangers idea more than the ncr military branch but then unified. Would have been cool to have a few character in game who didn't go along with the unification treaty. I know a popular companion mod is about that but still.

@@restitvtororbis5330 1. Your character does a 360 in the third person takedown. Having the first person POV do that would either be nauseating, or make no sense if the camera never moved. 2. The first person model for new vegas does NOT include legs. There is no way that they would model and animate a leg attack in a purely hands only game adapted from another purely hands only game (FO3) in such a short time, all for one little unarmed attack that 99% of players will never use because unarmed playthroughs are much less popular. 3. You shoot from your eyeballs in new vegas, and this includes melee attacks. Kind of ironic that the option that represents the most justice for Hanlon's actions, is the one that seemingly destroys the spirit and capabilities of the Rangers. I have no desire to see Hanlon dead from shooting himself, but what he did by mixing communications via radio resulted in a LOT of death and suffering. An entire ranger station wiped out, with one Ranger forced to fight to the death in an arena until she is inevitably killed. Other ranger stations so undersupplied they might have to abandon the station. It's even implied that Camp Bitter Springs is completely cut off from support due at least in part to Hanlon's meddling, a place full of not just civilians, but people who've suffered some of the worst Legion treatment and somehow escaped. So I have to choose with letting Hanlon go on a lie, with nobody being punished for these crimes that so many people suffered under Or Telling the truth, and having one of the best leaders in the NCR and the remaining free world, kill himself in shame; the fallout of which cripples perhaps the best, most honest, selfless fighting force in the wastelands, which would definitely result in even more suffering, and other crimes going unpunished. Love the contrast here. Forty-six minutes of detail about Interplay and Obsidian building up the lore of this faction over decades, including almost ten straight minutes dedicated just to Chief Hanlon and the political consequences of his actions in the dozen or so different endings he has. And then Bethesda touches the faction for just two minutes of the video, and we get, "Uh, yeah, their armour appears again once or twice, but is named incorrectly in this game, and over here in the TV show, Shady Sands inexplicably teleported halfway across California and was then destroyed. Hopefully the faction still exists?" If that isn't Bethesda writing in a nutshell, I don't know what is.
Hearts of Iron: Old World Blues is what you're looking for. It seriously expands on the lore of factions like the NCR and Enclave, even providing complete alternate history paths. Seeing how most of the NCR's technological development was locked behind their treaty with the Brotherhood was a serious eye-opener to me (as if we needed more convincing to wipe them out).

I think it can sometimes be confusing for people to keep track, but there are TWO groups of Rangers in Fallout, the NCR Rangers and the Desert Rangers. The Desert Rangers were natives to the area when the NCR came into the Mojave and decided to team up with the NCR after they started getting significant push back from the Legion. The two figures depicted at the Mojave Outpost are an NCR Ranger and a Desert Ranger shaking hands. Both have similar qualities, both are highly skilled and well organized, one is loyal to the NCR and operate as their special forces and veteran soldiers, and the other are wandering survivalists trying to bring some law, order and peace to the wasteland.

Would you ever make a video detailing how you get all this information and how you put it together? It just seems like such an insurmountable amount of work. Do you have a team? Do you personally listen to all the dialogue on your own?
I do everything on my own, editing, research, writing, thumbnails, filming footage, etc, which is why I have looooong gaps between videos lol As far as research goes, I've played every Fallout game multiple times and have a decent memory, plus I have all the game files to reference when memory fails

Crazy how foundational "Valley of the wind" was to so many. True nerds. Men and women of culture. Getting into anime in the late 80s and early 90s. When it was really hard. I remember tape trading people in small stores back in the pre internet days, can't imagine what it would've been like to be an anime nerd in the 1980s. For a second example, there's a Race in Star Trek named after them. The Nausicaans. If you love something super nerdy and niche, there's a very good chance the creator of it loved something nerdy and niche themselves, and THAT creator was Hayao Miyazaki.
I didn't know that about Star Trek. Miyazaki's films are one of a kind, we're really lucky to have lived in the same time period of such a visionary :)

I feel like Rangers should’ve been the N7s/Spectres of the Fallout games. But in delivery they seem more like the SS Blackshirts to the trooper’s SA Brownshirts. Or more appropriately…. Higher levelled NPCs😅
I find it funny the fans try to make sense of the nonsense of the lore, the theories that Shady Sands moved for some reason, when surely the director did it because it simply suited the plot, the director surely said my series is set in LA and I want to include Shady Sands but that is too far away, so I relocate it to LA, who cares, will they notice?
Love your videos! They're perfectly paced and quite easy to hear what you're saying. My only request would be to have some kind of label or something that says like "Quote from Bob Bobson" or "Bob Bobson on Bobby Bobbyson" if that makes sense. Alternatively, hire @LarryBundJr to read them instead 😆
To be honest their outfit is really good as well as ranger outfit however thing don't like is that Tax and they probably killing themself then fight Caesar and his the legions
It's a shame we never got Van Buren, but without that cancelation Obsidian wouldn't have made Pillars Of Eternity. It's an underrated CRPG they made in 2015, not quite Fallout 1 and 2, but a better game than anything Bethesda has made recently

Although I don't necessarily like the NCR, the rangers will always be some of the most sick looking and badass mfs, especially given their history both inside and outside of the lore from the games. Great vid.
So not only was Chief Hanson’s disinformation campaign AGAINST HIS OWN SIDE insane and pointless but given how he tells the events of Rattletail, he also aided and abetted murders
Miyazaki's films are one of a kind, we're really lucky to have lived in the same time period of such a visionary :)
i needed something to listen to while i build in the sims. thanks!
Is that full metal alchemist music near the end? Great as always mister triangle!❤
It is! I haven't watched it in years, but the music also stuck with me :))
It's kind of hilarious that elder Tandi says they were unable to find Vault 13 despite years of searching, considering it's literally in a straight line west from it ; )
To be fair, I wouldn't explored random, sketchy caves in a universe that has Deathclaws lmao
OH IM PUSHING BEDTIME BACK
i’d give my left foot to live in the timeline where Van Buren was finished
Same bro. I don't think any cancelled game has ever intrigued me so much
I was not expecting mass effect music
I just beat the game on a Caesar play through and eventually squads of rangers start hunting you and man those dudes do not play lol
Let's gooo rangers
Please Jeff, if you give us a Desert Ranger character in the next season of the show, I'll forgive you for being a massive scumbag. IMO, the most underrated tragedy in NV was the desert rangers entirely being gone or absorbed into the NCR.
Absolutely, and as such, fuck the NCR.
@@Shinhotep Long live the NCR
@@odst2247 No.
Who's Jeff?
@@Hard2G3t that bald amazon dude who looks a bit like a male reproductive organ with the crazy modded wive ..
Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I could swear that there is a reference to the NCR being a nation state in Fallout 2. Something like "Everything to the south [of Shady Sands] is NCR."
Definitely possible, F2 has so much dialogue it's pretty much impossible to remember all of it lol
If I'm not mistaken, that was the Half-Life 2 pistol and the Half-Life 1 shotgun in the thumbnail, very nice little crossover :)
No way, bro held me up with that “pick up that can” pistol. I mention the thumbnail, by the way, so don’t suffer a heart attack.
Diablo Tristan Theme.
Nice.
God these makes work days easy
nice always good to see another lore dump, will get my popcorn
I don't trust Todd, Emil or anyone at BGS to know the lore of the west coast.. cant touch anything without fucking up the lore can you TODD?
Sorry if rude, love the content. lol
I wish Fallout would return to having Nausicaa influence
I like how the Ranger has the most low poly shotgun. Lol
Always have been my favorite factions
I played fallout 2 and I was shocked to see a super mutant in their ranks of the ncr rangers I don't know why they hate super mutants now if I was ncr I'll try to convince super mutants to serve as troopers

“WATCH THOSE WRIST ROCKETS!”
Comment for the algorithm.✌️
the radio boy has the dead pool gene I guess
Videos like this make me glad there's not a nuclear winter (yet)
I wonder if the name tyco is inspired by the AI tyco in Marathon or vice versa 🤔
Lol I never noticed the box art curse until I watched this video 😂😂😂 wow
One time i had the ranger that gives you the ncr radio appear in the bos Bunker that starts the dead money dlc scared the hell out of me
Edit the ncr ranger appear behind the door that asks you if you want to start the dlc
Oh hell yeah. This is going to be good.
🖤🖤🖤
No way Rangers would let one random guy nuke their capital.
NCR Bros are eatin good today
Anyone have the song at 0:12?
I'm guessing there's a mod that fixes all the issues you mentioned in this video
I feel like Rangers should’ve been the N7s/Spectres of the Fallout games. But in delivery they seem more like the SS Blackshirts to the trooper’s SA Brownshirts. Or more appropriately…. Higher levelled NPCs😅
This is the big one, the Rangers are the best!
The meme at 30:33 lol
Love your videos! They're perfectly paced and quite easy to hear what you're saying.
My only request would be to have some kind of label or something that says like "Quote from Bob Bobson" or "Bob Bobson on Bobby Bobbyson" if that makes sense. Alternatively, hire @LarryBundJr to read them instead 😆
To be honest their outfit is really good as well as ranger outfit however thing don't like is that Tax and they probably killing themself then fight Caesar and his the legions
Ranger at the ready!
It's a shame we never got Van Buren, but without that cancelation Obsidian wouldn't have made Pillars Of Eternity. It's an underrated CRPG they made in 2015, not quite Fallout 1 and 2, but a better game than anything Bethesda has made recently
I hope the desert rangers come back someday
No way you cut out that chord progression at the start before it resolved 😢
Great video
🖤🖤🖤
hold on is he using the USP ans SPAS-12 from HL2
This is amazing
🖤🖤🖤
Was that picture in your intro from your urban exploration escapades?
Nah, I just got stock footage for it because I usually don't bring a gimbal with me when I explore. I like to travel as light as possible since I've fallen through a floor before lol
@@TriangleCity That's completely reasonable. I hope it didn't result in a major injury.
they’re so damn cool
@anamku0
Vampire
Cool
California actually had its own Rangers once upon a time, which is pretty cool. They eventually evolved into the CA DoJ investigators and CA State police (Capitol police, merged with CHP decades ago.)
Let’s be honest. It’s the indie ending, with Hamlin exposed. They can can we haven’t seen the last of the NCR, because they gonna kill it off on screen.
