Though this video is over a year old, Imma clarify some stuff on one specific entry, Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works. Firstly, the footage used is from the anime adaptation, not the movie itself. The footage is from ufotable’s version and I recommend it. As for the original, it was created by Studio Bones. Second, it does cover an entire story arc. How Fate works is it’s split into three routes, each with their own definitive ending and the actions in each not impacting the last. So it’s not like the movie just started in the middle of some random arc that was impacted by what came before. Though I wouldn’t blame anyone for thinking it was. The UBW route is usually recommended as the second route the player/reader goes through, the Fate route is usually considered a better introduction to the world and it’s systems. Though it’s not impossible to make UBW work without prior knowledge from the Fate route, as ufotable did. The problem is the ufotable version had 23 episodes while the Studio Bones movie had far less time to actually do the plot.

Somehow Street Fighter II (the 1994 anime) with its staggering 70% on RT and unanimous fan praise is only at #30 but then at #29 we have Assassin’s Creed with 18% on RT. How in the what? Also Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) deserved to be higher. Top 5 higher. It’s also the highest grossing videogame film in American box office history!
Yeah this list feels very poorly planned. It would have been better had they limited to like Live action only or something and actually watched the movies then using only scores and not even their own scores.
Great list, but... Sherlock Holmes = cocaine. Watson did find him once in an opium den, but Holmes was on the case, not indulging. (Yes, I know... this was kind of my Spyro/Final Fantasy VII during the video game desert of the early 1980s. Also, let me join those defending the honor of the PS3 R&C games, several of which were great. OK, not the tower defense one, but the rest are a lot of fun.
I've seen quite a few of these. The ones that stood out to me as being not-that-bad or actually pretty good are the first Mortal Kombat (the sequel sucks every dick in the world), Prince of Persia (I just watched this one again like a month ago and really liked it), Street Fighter II the Animated Movie (I saw that as a teenager and loved it), Silent Hill (kinda too long and misses the mark but it's much better than I think people give it credit), Rampage was good as a stupid fun movie which I always enjoy, and the very first Resident Evil movie which I still think is really good but the CGI kinda sucks ass by today's standards... the sequels are ALL awful. The Final Fantasy movie I also think gets shit on way more than it should, it's actually a really good movie and the animation still holds up today, I just think a lot of people were pissed that it was its own story. I actually own the DVD of it somewhere around here and watch it every couple of years. If you skipped the FF movie you should give it a shot it's really decent. Awesome list by the way. Peter trying to pronounce some of the Japanese titles was hilarious like when the title card comes up and he sighs and says "oh christ here we go." I laughed.
"Max Payne is not only the name of the movie, but describes how it feels watching it. There, now you don't have to make that joke in the comments." I think we all stopped making that joke by 2001.
The ratchet and clank movie was trash, but why did you say that the last good game is the third one? Almost all ratchet and clank games are great. And by the way, the movie was based on the game that was a remake of the original, not on the original.
The film industry has gone from seeing video game adaptations as money printing licences to money leaking ships, and the video game industry has gone from wanting the quick cash from a cheap film licence to respecting their IPs enough to want creative control as well as a high licence fee. Call of Duty would cost way too much to licence and the resulting film wouldn't be unique enough to turn the massive profit a major film studio would expect (and could even turn a loss depending how crap it is).
I get that the critics didn't like it, but "Double Dragon" is a really fun movie for any fan of the early ninja movies like "3 ninjas" "Surf Ninjas" "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" etc. I watched it free on Prime a while back and thoroughly enjoyed the cheesy nostalgia. It's worth watching more than most on the list
I'm happy Detective Pikachu was mentioned as the best. I feel like people don't give it enough credit for how ambitious this movie was. It could have easily go for the cheap route like the sonic movie did, with the main character living in the "real world", but instead it showed us a whole world where Pokémon (from multiple generations) and humans lived together.
@@occono3543 Unlike Sonic, Detective Pikachu didn't have a post credit scene teasing a second movie so It was a standalone story. It has been confirmed by Variety that a Pokémon live action series is being produced by Netflix, so it's probably going to be a brand new story.
@@paulaabelenda5867 I could see why they went the route they did with Sonic, though. Especially since Sonic 2 was better as both a Sonic movie and a Movie just in general. That's mainly because there's a surprising amount of buy-in with Sonic when it comes to his narrative and lore. We only stopped getting interconnected sonic stories in the main console games after Shadow the Hedgehog, in 2004. That game concluded a series of storylines that were started in 1994. Compared to pokemon, which doesn't have interconnected storylines and doesn't rely on them. So yeah, try to give me an argument that the core crux of Sonic lore (the Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald) would actually work in a film that is supposed to serve as an introduction to the world of Sonic the Hedgehog. It _could_ work, but you'd have to be a really damn good storyteller to make it convincing within a 2 hour time frame. In short, Sonic 1 basically walked so Sonic 2 could run.
I'm just surprised *Dead Or Alive* is so high in the ranks. I mean, I didn't like *Street FIghter,* but at least I can understand why so many people did... but ... are you actually telling me that people like Dead or Alive MORE? --- Also, *STREET FIGHTER II - The Animated Movie* is a mastepiece. I can't understand how it isn't in the top 10, since a lot of other better ranked titles are quite embarassing. I guess we have to blame the terrible american adaptation. You said they fixed it later, but it was probably too late and it already influenced the final score.
Good list, discovered new things, but I would have liked to see Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn on the list, when I saw it I really thought it was a movie (that's how they broadcast it), now I know it's a series but it seemed well done.
Tekken had a live action sequel in 2014, Tekken 2: Kazuya's Revenge and there was another Doom movie the last year, Doom: Annihilation. And also The King of Fighters live action movie. (The three are terrible btw). Great video!
As I recall, "Sonic The Hedgehog" actually became just as successful as "Pokemon: Detective Pikachu", so it really should have been on the #2 or #3 spot for sure.

There's a standing theory (and several attempted investigations) that Boll is involved in "tax sheltering". Essentially, if his movies don't make a return; it is classed as a tax write-off for his investors. I honestly think Mortal Kombat should be much higher on this list. We shall not mention the second game but the first one though admittedly a little camp, did stick to the game quite faithfully.
Say what you want about the Tekken movie, they put a lot of effort in the cast. Well some of it. Mortal Kombat 1 and Silent Hill 1 would be much higher if they were not put together with their far inferior sequels. It's like if Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and Detective Pikachu 2 suck balls, and then we make this list again in 10 years. Not really fair. Also, if the Resident Evil 3D movies were here, Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge deserved to be here...i don't think they were released in cinemas, and that film is at least top 10 quality in video game movie terms.

Some films that scored high and were praised by fans like YoKai Watch, Street Fighter 2 and Fate Stay Night Heaven's feel are all ranked below films like Warcraft which has a low RT percentage and was panned by fans and critics alike. Enjoy these list videos but, just confused on how that happened
same, some films get praised (see Tales of Vesperia in the 30s) and several movies below it get bashed....just confusing.
@@CrazeeAdam I think the issue is they're just using the website scores not fan scores, which is weird. Personally while it would have taken way more time, would have liked to see them watch the movies themselves to make a list on what they thought or get a team of people to do it. Would have made for a more personal and oppionated list then going Yeah these numbers say it was bad who are we to disagree.
Yokai watch 😂🤦♂️
@@TheInhumanBeatdown still has no sense at all. They are using rotten tomatoes and metacritic, Street fighter 2 the movie has pretty good reviews from the critics in both sites however it's in the 30th position behind crap like the resident evil live action movies.
Yeah, I mean in my case I played the Fates games because of the movied lol.
You forgot the Dead Space films, the Dante's Inferno Film, and Halo Legends 😭
No they didn't.
Definitely would like a Pokemon movie worst to best list! 😅
go to the corner and shut up now
by the way, the footage that you used for fate/stay night unlimited blade works movie (2010) was actually from its re-adaptation into a tv series in 2014
How he said Fate/stay night is also funny to me
@@ian291 How else do you say it? Fate Backslash Stay night? Is this like .hack://sign?
Well then I guess I should be in a mental institution cause I’ve seen:
Detective Pikachu
Lara Croft (2001)
Lara Croft 2 (2003)
Lara Croft (2018)
Mortal Kombat
Sonic the Hedgehog
and Street Fighter
I loved every single one of those movies too
I don't even know what I need then cuz I consider that lightweight
Street Fighter is definitely underrated on this list lol
Definitely better than doom and Prince of Persia
Agreed
Both the live action and the animated one.
Street Fighter is easily one of those "so bad it's good" movies. It's a ton of fun to watch. As a movie, I'd say Prince of Persia is better in that it's simply an alright movie, but Street Fighter is something I have no trouble watching over and over.
@@derangel9143 Cmon what casting is better than having the All American American Guile being played by JCVD. 🤣
At least we had Raul Julia, Kylie Minogue and Mulan in it 👍
Prince of Persia was great
Oh yeah, here we go, movie time!
I thought Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li and House of the Dead were infinitely worse than Tekken. Don't get me wrong, Tekken sucked ass (especially what they did to Yoshimitsu), but it didn't bore me to tears like the aforementioned two films.
When I saw Jason Statham in the Dungeon Siege trailer all I can say is “why are you in this movie you’re better than this?”
the movie is actually decent, these dudes didn't eve watch the damn movies they are "ranking", the sequels are fucking horrible tho. skip those, also completely different cast and characters
Movie is terrible. I watched it back when it first was available to rent. Jason Statham is so incredibly out of place in a medieval fantasy movie. Plot was horrible, and the orc monsters were a joke.
Is he though?
20:05 i will fight you mate, i love practically the whole series. Even objectively speaking, tools of destruction and a crack in time were great playing and looking games that never had awful stories.
If you liked up your arsenal but didnt like any of the games released after it, you haven't given them a fair chance at all
I’m seriously judging the metrics you’ve used to rank these films.
I've come to really love these long videos. They must be a lot of trouble to put together, so thanks so much for keeping us entertained!
In the name of the King - Known to me and my mates as "That film where Jason Statham punches a horse".
I'm suprised postal was so far down the list.. To me it's bolls best actually a decent adaptation of the game.. A great late night movie
There, now you don't have to make that joke in the comments."
I think we all stopped making that joke by 2001.
A testament to their quality, I didn't know 75% of these even existed 😅
The ratchet and clank movie was trash, but why did you say that the last good game is the third one? Almost all ratchet and clank games are great. And by the way, the movie was based on the game that was a remake of the original, not on the original.
Really pisses me off how HItman is #48 on this list and not #47.
*>:(*
Damn so close
Me too. My phone was also on 48% battery when it came on. Double triggered.
Have you done “every sonic game ranked” yet? Has to include spin-offs like Sonic Spinball and Doctor Robotbink’s Mean Bean Machine.
Postal is a cinematic masterpiece.
I seriously wonder when the call of duty movie franchise will start considering how popular it is
Time has passed. More likely to be a Fortnite movie now.
I fail to see what a movie could bring that would make it anything resembling the games other than brand recognition of the title.
They could it based on Modern Warfare that one has a concrete StoryLine
How in the world can Street Fighter II The Animated Movie be so low is just...surely that's sacrilege?
I get that the critics didn't like it, but "Double Dragon" is a really fun movie for any fan of the early ninja movies like "3 ninjas" "Surf Ninjas" "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" etc. I watched it free on Prime a while back and thoroughly enjoyed the cheesy nostalgia. It's worth watching more than most on the list
And now they're making a live action monster hunter with the same duo that brought us all those terrible R.E films...Gods protect us
I'm happy Detective Pikachu was mentioned as the best. I feel like people don't give it enough credit for how ambitious this movie was. It could have easily go for the cheap route like the sonic movie did, with the main character living in the "real world", but instead it showed us a whole world where Pokémon (from multiple generations) and humans lived together.
I guess it wasn't successful though. There's been 2 sonic movies since it came out.
I love the super mario bros movie. Its so bad but goddamn if it isn't a fun camp fest full of cheeky references.
To be fair, Postal is probably the most faithful movie adaptation of a video game to date.
I'm just surprised *Dead Or Alive* is so high in the ranks.
I mean, I didn't like *Street FIghter,* but at least I can understand why so many people did... but ...
are you actually telling me that people like Dead or Alive MORE?
---
Also, *STREET FIGHTER II - The Animated Movie* is a mastepiece.
I can't understand how it isn't in the top 10, since a lot of other better ranked titles are quite embarassing.
I guess we have to blame the terrible american adaptation. You said they fixed it later, but it was probably too late and it already influenced the final score.
Did y’all really ranked Mario bros above street fighter?
So much respect for the quality of videos we’ve been getting recently. Thank you Ben, Peter and those involved behind the scenes.
Good list, discovered new things, but I would have liked to see Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn on the list, when I saw it I really thought it was a movie (that's how they broadcast it), now I know it's a series but it seemed well done.
fatal fury movie being that low hurt. Love that movie.
Not really surprised by n.1, but Persona being n.2? That put a big smile on my face!
I was so happy that Detective Pikahu was well received, I loved it, my mouth was sore from smiling too hard after I left the cinema.
Tekken had a live action sequel in 2014, Tekken 2: Kazuya's Revenge and there was another Doom movie the last year, Doom: Annihilation. And also The King of Fighters live action movie. (The three are terrible btw).
Great video!
Came for the list. Stayed for the Japanese pronunciations.
As I recall, "Sonic The Hedgehog" actually became just as successful as "Pokemon: Detective Pikachu", so it really should have been on the #2 or #3 spot for sure.
Technically, the Yakuza film is just called Like a Dragon. Yakuza: Like a Dragon is the name of the upcoming game in the series.
Thank You actually Yakuza the entire series is called like a dragon in Japan
Get ready for some RPG fun!
@@AlmightyPolarBear It's a fun game and the story line is nice too. But if you like Yakuza of old this is different the battle system is turn based not free battle.
There's a standing theory (and several attempted investigations) that Boll is involved in "tax sheltering". Essentially, if his movies don't make a return; it is classed as a tax write-off for his investors.
Thing is, if this is true then he's being used, because Boll himself seems to think he is actually good; and he blames anything and everything else for the failure of his projects.
I actually really liked ‘Postal’. It was like Uwe Boll just said, ‘F it’, and intentionally got stupid/silly with it. And it worked.
Basically his best film
Because that's Postal in a nutshell.
Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge is a 2020 Animated movie and the best Video Game movie. 90% on RT
Just cause you didn't play the PS3 Ratchet & Clanks Peter, doesn't mean they weren't worth playing. The 'Future' series was absolutely fantastic.
A crack in time is still my favorite game in the series.
the name should really be from worse to not-as- worse
I would argue that Detective Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog (and a few of the Pokemon movies but I'm biased) are worthy of "good to decent" movies.
It's not the worst, is just worse than almost everything.
@@jimllc Also the Prince of Persia: S.o.T. one is decent as it's own take on the story.
I sincerely don't understand putting films together like Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat Annihilation. They are entirely different films and shouldn't remotely share a position on this list. Extremely weird and bad choice.
Maybe its just me, but as a huge fan of WoW I really enjoyed Warcraft. I legitimately think that if it were given the sequels it deserved it would've been quite good
yeah I don't understand the hate either
@@TheGamerFru i was a WOW fan and i hate the film with white-hot flaming passion. in fact i hated the film so much that it turned me off the game for a long time
They didn’t mention the Dirt movie based on the racing game
Fatal Fury should be much higher on this list. The fight scenes are actually fun to watch, and the story was good enough for Del Toro to steal it for Hellboy II.
blame the critics
Hell. There Are two Films before the Motion Picture of Fatal Fury that are must watches before even watching this one! It’s basically a Trilogy!
I honestly think Mortal Kombat should be much higher on this list. We shall not mention the second game but the first one though admittedly a little camp, did stick to the game quite faithfully.
Yes I just realised I did mention the second Mortal Kombat movie though I said I wouldn't.
I love the postal film!! 🤣
Street fighter the animated movie had a rotten tomato score of 78 percent and loved by fans and you still put it down with the bad movies? Wtf?
Say what you want about the Tekken movie, they put a lot of effort in the cast. Well some of it. Cung Le as Marshall Law is excellent, John Foo as Jin is great, Ian Anthony Dale is good as Kazuya, and Lateef Crowder is the real life Eddy Gordo. If they ever make a true Tekken movie then they better recast Lateef Crowder.
I will say Prince of Persia: Sands of TIme is an entertaining film. A few of the early Pokemon films are decent. Like 2000, 3, and the Lucario one.
There was a Pokémon movie that was basically a Deoxys apocalypse and I really liked that one, it was pretty interesting to see the world of Pokémon forced into an apocalypse situation.
This video needs more *Japanese visual novels*
The scary thing is how high Super Mario Brothers landed.
tbh i liked the film
The first Silent Hill movie should have been way higher on the list. Definitely not a masterpiece, but it was faithful to the game, even going as far as to recreate camera angles and stuff and its atmosphere was really good. The second movie is trash though.
Hugely agree the first one should be much higher
Not even close. They got so much very wrong. I honestly feel they should have payed people just to watch the thing.
Think for the next Ranked from Worst to Best video, Ben and Peter should have Ashton read all the Japanese titles.
She's done well so far but this would be a good test of her mettle and pronunciation; not to mention seeing how long she can go before potentially cracking.
Love this channel. Seriously thank you guys for great content with even better presentation
I still can’t believe they didn’t just make a Need For Speed movie based on the original Most Wanted. 🤦🏽♂️
They should have also undercover would make a great movie
Family and Furious is like the movie equivalent hahah
How about a video about every Dragon Ball Z game ranked from worst to best
I love how Ben says sorry after her reads ever Japanese or Chinese game 😂
Ben and Peter have learned japanese and chinese just by saying those weird movie names.
Uwe Bolls films arent even great as trashy B movies, theyr'e too cynical and calculated to be charming, the guy really is the bottom tier of action filmmaking
I remember when Mario came out in the 90’s as a kid and feeling so confused 🤷♂️. But I think the new TR movie was pretty decent, if not a bit corny.
Lmao that poor commentator i know its a hell of a struggle to read the long japanese titles
Worth playing? Ratchet & Clank?! Those games just got better and better. The main series did anyway. Have you played the PS3 games? A Crack in Time, Tools of Destruction, and Into the Nexus were all incredible, especially A Crack in Time! Rift Apart and the remake may have some issues with cutesy-ness & enemy variety, but they're still damn good. How could you not love those games when we're all drowning in a sea of mostly bland to decent open world games? It's nice to have some focus, with fun, charm, and wit every now and then. Try them out, then go back to gathering different kinds of sticks and meaningless side missions. The movie wasn't very good though.
I know right!
I watched MK 1995 as a kid when it released. Good music, good action, good pace, plot was reasonable given the game. All my friends watched it too, it was awesome
