But which video game villains are the most despicable of all? There’s only one way to settle this… A big list! TO BE CLEAR, these entries are in no particular order, meaning that the villain in the number one spot isn’t necessarily any dastardlier than the one in the 101 spot. Love that there was an Ace Attorney villain on this list! The first trilogy at least is truly fantastic. I think most hardcore fans of this series would probably choose Godot over Van Karma though - the catch is that he’s not introduced until the 3rd game so a lot of people may not have experienced him. He’s not particularly high on the evil scale, but he’s clearly one of the best villains of all time
I am sad, Count Bleck was a great villain with a sad backstory with a presumably a happy ending but Dimentio made a great impression of a villain but one of my more favorites is Team Star from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
This is probably too obscure for you all but AM from "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream" is the most terrifying of all of the AI villains because of its pure sadism. Also, as stated elsewhere in the comments, That Dog from Duck Hunt is a bastard.
I hope to see 101 protagonist in video games as well
I am also glad that Kefka is on this list he is the best final fantasy villain and will always be better than Sethiroth.

"Wait, stop, don't open that door!" Opens the door... Every single enemy on this list is on the other side. Good luck.
Imagine including Wizpig and not including King K. Rool at all, at that point imagine if they included Fawful and didn’t include Bowser at all, imagine if they included Metal Sonic but didn’t include Dr. Eggman at all, imagine if they included Ghirahim but didn’t include Ganondorf at all, and finally imagine if they included Culex and didn’t include Sephiroth at all, that’s how King K. Rool’s exclusion from this video feels.
My Final Fantasy favorite would be Caius Ballad from XIII-2. While ending all of life and time would be considered more than just an overreaction under normal circumstances, I can't help but sympathize, knowing what he went through, having to see the one person he is literally fated to protect die over and over again ad infinitum.
The true stroke of genius though is that he not only succeeds in a wonderful gut punch of an ending, but that the protagonists never had a chance to win in the first place, dancing in the palm of his hand all along, as is emphasized through the non-choice you are given after the final fight to spare him and the paradox endings.
Also his musical theme with its variations is among Final Fantasy's best.
If there's anything unfortunate about him, it's that his character design is less than intimidating and that he's stuck in the middle part of a trilogy that doesn't belong to Final Fantasy's high points.
And that Lightning Returns destroys the beautifully bleak ending I mentioned. Always refused to play that...

I beat Ornstein and Smough on my first try. I though it was gonna be hardest fight in the game. It was the easiest boss for me the whole game
Whoops! Got spoiled for a game i've not finished. Oh well, i'd suspected Adachi anyway and i tend to be forgetful. I just think it's funny. 😅

The greater good
Since we can’t do a battle royale, I’m doing the next best thing. I am going to take every villain in this list, have them face each other gauntlet style with the help of ChatGPT, and keep it going until there is an ultimate winner. Wish me luck!
EDIT 1: 14:00 Elden Ring came out in 2022, after ChatGPT’s database ends, so simulating that fight is impossible, but so far 343 Guilty Spark has emerged victorious in every battle so far, so let’s assume he wins this one too.
EDIT 2: 23:24 Despite me saying that there had to be a decisive winner, Kessler proved to be the first person capable of drawing with Guilty Spark. I reestablished my rule, and Guilty Spark won anyway. But he may be tiring out!… Maybe!
EDIT 3: 31:13 Another fight that’s impossible to simulate since ChatGPT doesn’t know 2022 video games. But… yeah, Guilty Spark’s still going. He hasn’t lost yet.
EDIT 4: 32:48 Somehow we got another draw. I’m going to have the AI simulate it again…. Okay, it didn’t even simulate a battle. It just said Guilty Spark won. I’m not satisfied with that. I’m going to try this one more time… Guilty Spark wins. The streak continues!
EDIT 5: 36:52 I swear, if THIS was the villain that dethroned Guilty Spark, I would have lost my mind. But, well, he didn’t. The streak remains alive.
EDIT 6: 41:10 I had to run this fight three times because ChatGPT wasn’t understanding the “one boss absorbs the other’s powers” mechanic. Each time Guilty Spark won. I’m starting to think Guilty Spark is unbeatable.
EDIT 7: 59:15 When 343 Guilty Spark beat this villain, I took a short break from the gauntlet setup and had him fight other powerful foes. 343 Guilty Spark beat the entire Greek Pantheon, drew with God, and finally lost to Chuck Norris. I… I don’t even know what to say anymore.
Okaaay... Maybe some of the villains I instantly think of are not as iconic as I thought... Did I miss them on this list or were they really not mentioned?

Bison listed higher that Khan? Wtf are you thinking? You said "If we were to list all of his misdeeds, we'd be here all day." in regards to Bison. Yup. Correct. About one full day. As Bison only has around 35 years of experience being evil, so one day might just cover it. Kahn? You might need about 400 years, if you don't sleep, eat, breathe, or take any breaks at all. Kahn is over 10,000 years old at the whole dominating entire planes of existence thing. With an iron grip on all of their daily lives and all with in it, in literally thousands of universes, the grand lord is KAHN. And has been for 10 MILLENIA. Bison cannot even conquer ONE world. Kahn has near infinite dominion over a few thousand universes. That's not even comparable. Seriously? Galactus should be jealous. Thanatos needs to get in the back of the line at villain amature hour in comparison. Darkseid is a pale shadow beside his brilliant shining star of EVIL. And he hits like a truck, cheats at his own game, and has multiple combos that do between 45% and 80% of your hp.

Pauline is the woman in Donkey Kong.... It is confirmed. Her art looks nothing like Peach in fact. She also appears again in Super Mario Odyssey. That's kind of the gimmick of New Donk City and some of the themes there.. Also his name WAS Jumpman back then. That was his original name.. But Pauline is the girl... Like this is 100% confirmed... You can in fact Google this as well..

Not much debate about him being the most iconic tbh. Debatable if he'd be the *best* game villain out there, but surely that's a whole another list.
As a die-hard RE fan, no villian comes close to the legendary Albert Wesker.
I would say if there were going to be any more it would be Umbrella themselves, one of the RE8 villains (Heisenberg is pretty iconic and the other houses are pretty tragic) or if you include them as one thing, the Baker Family. Like the new RE games were pretty good at giving real character to all the baddies
Kane, from Command and Conquer does. they even dress similar, and he is arguably more charismatic than Wesker. both are legendary though.
I’m guessing they won’t list Adam Pacitti on here out of fear of repercussions. He does have the look of a final boss about him.

However, I am disappointed that Dr. Nefarious didn't get onto the list, but somehow, the dude from Quantom Break got on. To each their own, I suppose 😅 Great job all around, everyone!

Good list overall. Only notable omissions I can think of are Shang Tsung, King Dedede and any of the Gears of War villains.
I think the entry of Heihachi Mishima should be paired with Kazuya Mishima. Heihachi is the original villain but Kazuya takes on a more villains role as well by the time of Tekken 2.

One villain I'm a big fan of who wasn't on this list is Helis from Horizon Zero Dawn. The way he speaks and is absolute fanatical devotion to his beliefs is completely chilling not to mention his appearance.
I love how the video starts by saying these are not in any particular order, and they probably aren't intended to, yet you've got Robotnik, Bowser, Glados, Handsome Jack and Sephiroth all appearing at the end of the video.
It's why bands with one hit wonders wait until the very end to play the one song everyone knows. Keeps people watching through the whole thing.

Abby has no sympathy from me because I stand by the first telling of the group not the stupid rewrite to try to make me like her and justify Joel’s death
Joel's death was justified.... as much as anyone likes Joel, he was NOT good person. We sympathize with him for the same reason you should feel empathy and sympathy towards Abby, someone was taken away from him in a ruthless manner for no real good reason, accept there was even more a reason the solider shot Joel and Sarah, it was an order, one the Solider didn't want to follow but had to.. Also, Abby is in fact more a protagonist in Pt. 2 than anyone else. She has the greatest story arc, the greatest change, understanding, and overall makes the most mature decisions of any playable character in the game after learning from mistakes. She's not a perfect person of course, but she's real and not the monster you seem to paint her as.

Lack of any of Bioware's fantasy RPG villain is pretty painful. No Sarevok, Jon Irenicus or Loghain? Baldur's Gate series basically kickstarted Bioware's legend.
Meanwhile we get Sans who is iconic, but can he really be considered a villain when he only opposes us if we are the murderous assholes?
As a skylanders fan I appreciate Kaos being mentioned and I can confirm we do defeat Kaos with the power of consumerism 😁

It’s nice you all picked some of the most iconic ones! The likes of Kuja and Skullface do deserve honorable mentions though.
I cannot believe you don't have Clockwork from the Sly Cooper Series. Some of the villains in this list are derived from pure hate, and to me, no other villain takes the cake more than the malicious metal owl. His actions are motivated by his hate of the whole Cooper Family bloodline, and he would stop at nothing to end the legacy. He is the mastermind who bands together with other villains to finish the job in the first game. Then the second game, the entire plot is trying to prevent him from coming back to life, which shows the true FEAR the protagonist (Sly Cooper) really has for him. He is one of the most underrated villains of all time, and every future villain in that series took inspiration from his hate.
Hope Vaas and at least 1 Persona 5 villain is on here. Maybe Akechi

Nintendo has plenty of video game villains which one has already featured in Andross and of course Bowser as well as Wario and Gannon.
What about Giygas from Earthbound? I consider Giygas to be the scariest villain in Nintendo history.
Soul Calibur fan sitting here, watching the list go on, the numbers getting higher and higher, thinking that my one big vote wasn't going to make the list. That everyone forgot about how phenomenal of a villainous and evil force Nightmare/Soul Edge actually are (kinda like how Bamco has forgotten about the series altogether these days). Because there was _no way_ they'd make it above the likes of Wesker, Dracula, Ridley, Phantom Mantis, Pyramid Head, Kerrigan, or _Sans._
Then I get to #24 and realize, to my _great_ surprise, that they're not only on the list, but _high_ on the list!

Pokey "Porky" Minch from the Japan-only Game Boy Advance game Mother 3, while not quite as terrifying as Giygas, is still a notorious villain. Sure, he's incredibly annoying in Earthbound (a.k.a. Mother 2), but by Mother 3, he becomes worse. He is a horrible psychopath.
That annoying dog that laughs at the player from Duck Hunt, anyone? (NES Zapper fans know exactly what I'm talking about.) OK, so maybe that dog isn't a villain, per se, but it's still annoying.
The lack of Skull Kid hurts my heart
Well, technically, Skull Kid didn't start out as an evil being. It was Majora's Mask that turned Skull Kid into a villain.

I mean.. everyone had the hots for all 4 of them (the Lady included), Karl Heisenberg and his sexy voice, Chris and more from those games =/ lol. the RE team knew what they were doing.

Agreed. If you’re really looking at the last of us, Joel could be considered a villain, even Ellie really (murdering a pregnant woman). Abby’s father didn’t even want to do the surgery, but Joel murdered him and doomed humanity for his own selfish reasons.

Me and my ex-wife added a new one to the list when our younger daughter was about 18 months old "always watch your toddler when they are playing outside. Because to a toddler, a snail (including shell) can actually appear quite appetising.."
Likewise when we told that particular incident to a close friend who also had small children, she said.. "Yeah.. add caramelised cat poo to the list as well.."

Hey for pokemon Platinum to the best of my knowledge the red chain Could NOT control giritina. As until Palkia and Dialgia were captured Cyrus didn't know Giritina exhisted. He got kidnapped BY giritina to the reverse world.
Great list, however, it is almost criminal that you left off Dr. Nefarious from Ratchet and Clank. Also, Ornstein & Smough aren't so much villains as they are soldiers performing their duty. They serve as the biggest hurdle to prove that any undead are actually worthy of succeeding Lord Gwyn. If you want a better choice for a villain from Dark Souls, then a better choice would be Gwyn the Lord of Cinder. A god who cursed Humanity with the Darksign and artificially extended his age of fire because he was afraid of what was going to come after. This act is what leads directly to the absolutely terrible state of the world in Dark Souls.

Speaking of iconic villain's does anybody remember Culex and his awesome Boss Music.
I find it difficult, because the list contains names of bad guys from games I've never played.
But my favorite villain is the character Desther Indelayne from the game Neverwinter Nights.

The streamer beating melania with the dance mat is impressive but so is "letmesoloher" a player known for soloing melania while nude, using a mere katana and usually doesnt take a single hit from her. (There is thousands of stream clips of this person. They are real and watching the video is nothing short of astonishing)
Really glad Frau Engel was in this list. She was legit one of the most horrifying villains i've encountered in a game. This woman is literal damaged goods.
Im glad to see Ace Attorney representation on this list i would argue that Dahlia Hawthorne should be here over Manfred Von Karma. That girl is pure evil
