Most impressive is to deliver this song at the end of a two hour show....
Wow
Cocaine and Jack Daniel
@@albertgein3082 The only way! lol
@@albertgein3082 Best comment I've seen in a while
Cocaine is one hell of a drug
The scary part is that was about an hour and a half into the set. 30+ years ago and I still remember what that felt like.
Yes! That was the en ore at the end of a two hour long set!
*encore
How did it felt?
I miss this lars......dude was an absolute beast in his prime
Metallica ruled the world at this time. No doubt about it.
LIKEWISE!
Metallica's iconic live performance in Seattle is still their biggest live show of all time.
Nope. Moscow in 1991. 1.6 plus million peeps according to the KGB.
@@warhammer5690 yes and no. Technically no because it was a festival, but Metallica was the biggest band at the time
@@Silver_Bullet1999 hell yeah. The other 3 were side attractions. My first Metallica show was in 84 at the Woodstock on LA. I've been a fan since. I STILL measure other bands bassist against the Burton Standard.
No
@@Silver_Bullet1999 yes and no... AC/DC was also at Moscow in 91 and I’m betting you they were the biggest band there
Jason’s backing vocals are insane
Shoutout the dude that requested this for like 20 years lol hey they reacted to it my dude!!
Was looking for this comment lol. I was thinking the exact same thing.
You guys should live stream this whole concert honestly it's fucking insane
We would love to do live streams but thT when the risk of copyright strikes happen. So we don't chance it. But good idea.
I guess then you will just have to do more reactions from this concert then. I mean if we can't get the whole thing all at once, we will take it in pieces.
People struggle to play Battery sitting down at album speed
The fact that James is playing and singing at the same time at a faster than album tempo...just turning 26 that month
I don't know guys, he is imo the greatest frontman ever...I mean, how can you even come close to that?
P.S. I think all those extra endings to songs, combined, are longer than most band's careers.
I totally agree but in addition imo it’s also because of Lars. It’s so funny to always have him this blink of an eye off the rhythm and ahead of the rest of the band. He’s seemingly always too fast 😅 🤣🤣
Would you happen to know what the bpm is?? I tried googling it but it said like 103bpm which I know for a fact is wrong as on the album, it's around 200bpm.... This version is clearly faster but yeah just don't know how much faster
@@Ranganation I'd like to know that too
I measured the tempo and learned, that the Album version is between 198-200 bpm and the live version is 210 bpm. I would have expected a bigger difference. Maybe someone can do the countercheck. It´s easy to do with an online metronom.
@@MrSeelenwalzer They played it even faster in '86.
But 'Tallica has been playing songs faster live before they even had an album 😋 they are known for playing every song faster live. And then there are extremes between '84 and '86
METALLICA are who they are because they tour hard & play hard from day 1, they built their solid foundation on live performances
At the end was THE most badass mic drop moment in mic drop history.
The Gods of Speed Metal, Trash Metal, Heavy Metal, METALLICA, my 1st CD i got to my 12st Birthday, was Metallica the Black Album, since that Time i Listen to them and now 28 years later, i still hear them.
I was 13 years old..when I listened to them..I am from Chile-Southamerica..and I am 49 years old right now. Well, I guess that you know that in this continent the most people only speak in spanish, so I hope that you understand me if I write no clearly for my poor inglish..thanks you!! A lot..Greetings from Chile-Southamerica. 🤟🤘🎸🎶🎵🎼🎸🎸🤟🤘
@@emozolimoragonzaleztapia7966 Hola my Chilean Friend, no worries, your English is better then mine, i can complete understand what you are written here. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
This era of Metallica when no other band was on the same planet as them
When I was 19 I was lucky enough to see Metallica in a small club outside Baltimore in August 1983, just after their Kill'em All album was released. Good times... And yes, I'm THAT old and still a huge metalhead. 🤘 🤘
Fucking A brother!!!! I saw them at the Woodstock in 84 in LA!!! Still hard to fathom Metallica without CLiff....
Was it at Hammerjacks?
@@gracee915 No, it was at Coast to Coast in Catonsville. But I went to many a show at Hammerjacks, that place was wild. I saw Pantera there in the 90s and people were diving into the crowd from the 2nd floor. Also saw bands at other local clubs like The Seagull Inn and Sandbar/Network. I saw Motorhead at Coast to Coast in 1982 and saw Metallica again there a few years later with W.A.S.P. opening for them. Also saw Mercyful Fate and Slayer there. We even drove all the way to New York in 1983 to see Raven/Anthrax (w/Neil Turbin on vocals)/Metallica at the Roseland Ballroom. Also remember seeing Slayer in the basement of a Baltimore rowhouse in 1984 for the Haunting The Chapel EP tour.
Don't worry about how "OLD" you are! I got into rock/metal in 1978 (thanks to a band called KISS!). Right now, I'm 51, and TO THIS VERY DAY, I'm STILL A FAN ROCK/METAL music! In my opinion, MUSIC, of ALL things, SHOULD NOT HAVE AN "AGE LIMIT?"
JAMES : " Hey Lars, how many BPM tonite ?" LARS : " Yes"
Lol
I was 15 and saw Metallica in Newcastle Mayfair UK Damage INC tour . 1986 .. and WOW blew the roof off Moshing / spitting / beer showers Cliff Burton was absolutely drenched rocking it in front of me .... couldn't believe a week later the tragic accident ....... forever in my thoughts when I listen to Metallica
Seen them with Cliff several times myself, he was wild onstage!
My first concert was Metallica to..
Wasn't as cool as yours but it was at park city, Utah wolf mountain ..
And it was outside and it was kick ass I swear they played over 2 hours...
Jason newstead was still there
The 80s-early 90s Metallica. Good lord!
People always ask, “how do they play so fast and head bang/ run around?” But no one ever wonders how does James SING AND PLAY THAT FAST AT THE SAME TIME!!!! 🤯🤯🤯
I know man. I saw "Megadeath" one time and I was up really close watching Dave Mustaine do the same thing and I was amazed at his skill to play these fast riffs and sing at the same time.
Oh man I miss these days, being young with long hair, wearing a jean jacket with metal patches all over it and of course a metallica back patch on the back.. I saw them on this tour in vancouver, canada a few months before this seattle show, best concert I've ever seen
Goosebumps every time. I got hammered in Sunday night and watched this whole show and I’ve been watching it since I was 15, I’m 42 now and it never fails to amaze me. You should react to the whole show.
Creeping Death Live from Moscow !
TallicA for life and thank you The Wolf Hunterz for this reaction, was wosome!!!!!
Saying they gave it 100% isn't quite right because they played even faster than the studio version haha. Yeah the shows from this era are just insanity. No stopping them.
Energy
Power
Yeah!!! Metallica \m/
"Live Shit, Binge, and Purge" BABY!
Classic VHS boxset, was like $75, it'd be in a glass case, you had to find an indie store that stocked them bc they were kind of rare at the time, no eBay or anything
U Must see Master of puppets from this show. U must
Yeah man the best version of this song.
Legend has it the Energizer Bunny was at this show and he's still pumped and full of energy from this show.
Sheeeeeez! Like a pneumatic hammer but double the speed!!
Last song of a two hours show. This guys were gods!
I'm loving your combined reactions!
The crazy part is, all of this energy on display 3/4ths of the way through a 2 hour gig..
Seattle89🔥🔥🔥
That's exactly why I've been celebrating the band for 30 years. For me simple the best band in the world 🤘 Jason was so f... good.He was the best bass player for me.Not technical but the complet package. I like Robert a lot and Cliff is a legend anyway but Jason was just brutal. 😂
I’m convinced that there’s an ongoing competition between Lars and James every time they play Battery live to see who can play the fastest. It’s a race. I love it!
Oui et ca a donné ce chef d œuvre ❤
The intensity of this performance is as much as a death metal concert!
It's like shooting NOS into a built supercharged engine that's fast as shit already. They were absolutely flooring it in Seattle!
It's fun to see Metallica now but back in the day they were fire! Every performance 100 mph smashing you into oblivion! High octane performance to melt your face. Super tight in the pocket just incredible!
In my opinion 1989 was Metallica’s best years Vocal and playing tightness, with the last of fumes of Cliff Burton’s influence.
53yr old here...Thrasher who traveled the early 80's to see all upcoming bands. Metallica was one of the best! Every band starting back then played their songs, before they even had an album!
She started bobbing her head, back and forth. Lol. Its about impossible to not do that with this song, ha.
Lars was on FIRE!!!
I wasn't at this show, but saw them on this tour and they were definitely at their peak. I was in my early 20's and totally a die-hard metalhead.
a very similar situation was with Angus Young, in the Rocker video - jewelery collection official video, there he was also so exhausted that he had to go backstage and drink water and breathe with an oxygen mask right during the song at the concert, then they put him on the head of the security guard and let the audience in. I think this is the best return to my work, Angus is a unique musician.
Woooo! You guys finally did it. I knew you'd love the energy. If you still want to see them kill it live please react to "fight fire with fire" live in Mexico 2009
Absolutely no one is Fukin with these animals during this era!🔥🔥
Sepultura
those were the days when this was a really good band... seeing them on this tour as a 12-years old kid was unbelievable.!
Wow 12
@@TheWolfHunterZ yes, it was a pre-birthday gift from my parents. the show was close to my 13th birthday. middle of the front row, with my dad behind me providing a small safe space for me - he doesn't even listen to metal, he did it just for his little son.:) james was pretty cool when he saw us and said the guys around us should take care of me. after their last song he came down and gave me some water, a few guitar picks and high-fived my dad. was my first big concert experience and a total blast.! i saw metallica a lot of times til 2000 but they never killed it like on the 'damaged justice' tour.
@@TheWolfHunterZ if you don't want to react to a full show for your viewers, do yourself a favor and watch this show from start to finish at home.!! this specifically show is like no other metallica show ever caught on tape.!! it's the seattle show '89 out of the 'live shit: binge & purge' box set...
Thanks guys for your reviews! This brings a new feature to this genre!!!
I was there 15 years old and couldn't believe what I was seeing. 30 years later it's still making waves. Thanks metallica.
FINALLY my request 😁
Thanks for reaction
Great band. Love this album 🤘💪🔥
Lars got you good 😂😂 But yea this is Metallica at their peak and one of their greatest performances. Also the fastest version of this song if not their fastest song of all the songs they had done. Yes even faster than dyers eve of course.
Don't forget Damage Inc. That's fast as hell too!
@@jamesnorthan3284 the studio version not really. Also I'll correct myself real quick, they have played Battery even faster in their puppets tour than here at Seattle, so they have played even faster than Seattle which makes this Battery performance from Seattle not their fastest.
@@jamesnorthan3284 Also, WHIPLASH!
Tu as raison la dessus. Si tu veux de la vitesse genre fight fire with fire va voir le show au Canada 1986. Jason venait d arriver dans le groupe. Toute les chansons son tres rapide. Tu vas adoré
I was fortunate to see them on this tour one month after this show... still the best live show I've ever been to. Also, that was back when the whole crowd was into every song for the entire show.
Takes me from 0 to 100 in seconds fucking unreal
Wow. That was amazing. What a furious ride!
When you're a drummer coming off an X-Power set the 'shakes' are real, that doesn't end for a few days, the downtime is 1-3 days, but what is worse are the cramps, being on oxygen helps in small doses, especially before a new event. the neckaches, the headaches are a thing so lots of Tylenol or Jack but I never drank during the set!
Lars is a God.
Drink slow you down
I don't drink too.
Its slow down your attack and attention , i hate that vulnerability feeling ..
As a drummer drinking is like the way to go to the wall .
This THIS live concert is where I finally Respect Lars as a drummer. He is on point this whole show. Not better before or since the AJAF era.
I’ve watched it so many times but it always amazes me, I’d probably slip into a coma if I played that fast for that long or just straight up have a heart attack lmao
You two are so much fun to watch with. Keep up the great work!
Thank you Jody
One of the best Metallica songs & shows for sure
I saw this tour in Florida....blew my mind.....loved when they had the Justice statue crumble during the set
Speed is a hell of a fucking drug.
Man, the remastered version sounds superb ! I have this on video from the "Metallican" and I can still fit into the limited edition T-shirt, just !
Saw them in SF on this same tour. The show wasn't recorded, but was insane! Hometown crowd!!🤘
Great video as always 😁
The "Metallica: Complete" playlist on Spotify is my go-to for when I go to the gym and Battery has definitely helped me push so much farther
One of the highest energy vids on the interwebs, for sure. Saw them in '93 when they had lots of natural pep.Great reaction.
The whole show is the best show in the history of metal.
Thanks man, we'll see you around......fuck yeah!
Absolutely blistering
Hard to believe I have been listening to these guys over 40 years!
Seen them live 3 times, once with G&R, kick ass show every time
I always thought, in the back of my mind, that they made a deal with devil. This Seattle concert was incredible
Yes yes yes!!!! Finally!!!! And dont forget his voice!!!
Would LOVE to see y'all react to entire Seattle show, truly is one of the greatest shows ever caught on camera
04:17 "normal" drummer "heating " progress and guitarists "welding" nice too !!!
Why cant i like this 1000 more times? haha \m/
i saw this show in oakland. it was incredible!!
I've only been lucky enough in Australia to see them in Brisbane for Death Magnetic album, because my best friend got me and her tickets, but she couldn't be there! Alone at Metallica? I met plenty of great people!!
This show and one in San Diego make up the Box Set (Binge & Purge). That is why so many know of it. This concert is among their last before the Black album came out, so it is sort of special for that too.
So beautiful to see a concert where the crowd is not staring at a handy display. OMG Metallica has always been the Masters of Metal for decades
Dude it was 1989 no phones
@@bz6046 That´s exact what I mean :-)
Thank Heaven above I have a CD version of this SAME (EXACT) concert!
The entire Seattle show is perfection.
The famous Seattle '89 show was actually two shows on consecutive nights, August 29 and 30
WIPLASH!!!
im 11 and i still lisent to this legendary music in 2022
I think it was in the behind the scenes part of this concert video where James and Kirk are giving Lars crap for playing it so fast. They said that was the fastest they ever played the song and that they were not ready for it.
The Seattle Show was recorded live for the Metallica: Binge and Purge box set, it was also filmed to be used in the "A year and a half in the life of Metallica" documentary by Adam Dubin.
05:49 imagine one speed feet and ohter speed hands...drumming at same time !
Arguably, an ode to the Punk Rock that they always enjoyed.
I was at this concert!🤘
I was there but not in Seattle. Three days before in Spokane my best friend bought me a ticket for my 15th birthday. Saw this huge Hesher knock out a asshole who was trying to hurt people in the mosh pit, he hit the guy so hard he flew off the ground like a cartoon. 😆 my buddies and I went Holyshit 😲 it was the loudest concert I've ever been to and I've seen Slayer, Megadeth,Pantera, Anthrax, Death Angel, Testament, Opeth, Van Halen. Well I guess Megadeth in 1992 was just as loud but Metallica before anyone really knew who they were and the show that cracked the foundation of the Boone Street barn in Spokane Washington in August of 89. Legendary show. Perfect Metal played by the greatest band of all time.
Do you imagine back 80's this guys playing for 2000 and 1000 or less people? I can tell you that I've been in Metallica concert earlier 80's with that crowed, and for us in that time 1000 people was a lot, now they full fill a venue with 30000 or 100000 even one million people, just amazing...
Saw them in Oslo on this tour. Fucking legendary!
Metallica has Battery, Megadeth Rattlehead, Slayer Angel Of Death, Anthrax Cought in a Mosh and Pantera Domination!
That's right , The right hands of doom , Fuck yeah !!!
I saw the Justice Tour. Untouchable
James's guitar performance 👍🤟🎸
About time someone requested this song
Metallica in their prime, this was late and the set and they gave this energy the whole show and never let up. What I would do to be around and old enough to see them in their prime
I saw them in 86, 89, 91 and 92. Those were the golden years for their concerts. I’ve been to plenty since, and they’re still awesome in concert, but the Puppets/Justice/Black tour era was insane. The energy was just off the charts insane.
That whole Seattle Show they did 32 years ago really set the bar somuch the Bar gets higher n higher after this gig they played definitely ONE of MetallicA’s Finest shows and moments in Metallica and rock and roll history these guys are Legends and future Hall of Famers btw 89 was the year I was born I’m just as old as this video Hail Metallica Hail Cliff+Ray Burton 🤘🏽
Fucking Battery! Go! 🤘🏼
