I didn't include this since it's only semi-relevant, but I found an interesting page on polyphenols in plant protein. That dirty taste many pea proteins have? Polyphenols! So the better tasting and looking the plant protein, the less healthy it is lol www.nizo.com/blog/polyphenols/
It's like the case with various veggies.
The better they are for your body, the more terrible they'll taste...
Raw kale being the absolute worst among them.
Reminds me also of the root which Neelix had offered Comander Chakotay.
Everything is contingent and contextual, so surely, polyphenol content in pea protein "matters." But if using it specifically to reach protein targets, palatability might be a concern to the extent that "the healthiest pea protein is the one you actually eat."
You have an admirer.
@@educational-101 that guy is mentally disturbed. They've been harassing UnnaturalVegan and all the commenters for years, saying all sorts of disturbing things.

Mental health illness is definitely no joking matter, which is why they need to be committed fast. To a therapist, preferably. Or a priest. Or a psychic. Or anyone with large amounts of medication 😎
Beyond meat really helps elevate my meals, but I try to think of it like red meat and limit how much I have. And honestly, it's pricey. I find mixing it with beans and cheaper proteins is both cost effective, potentially healthier, and just as delicious!
try TVP or soy curls you can buy in bulk and much more cost efficient and healthier than beyond... Also has a great flavor profile with a simple BBQ sauce or some seasoning you'd add anyways. Try it!
@@bwzarchive708 I've had TVP many times. I do enjoy it! But it's not the same as beyond. Beyond and other burgers with heme iron really capture that red meat flavor.
My lastest addiction is trader joes soyrizo, I think that's probably worse
Haha I stretch my Beyond meat like my great grandmother stretched cow meat. Lentil and sausage soup, ground meat in tomato sauce over pasta...
My grandparents were vegan in the 1970s in the uk. A walk round the health food stores was so different to what it is today. There were no supplements, rapseed oil came in special small bottles. There was a lot of muesli.
@@MdoubleHB.xSilence, Freelee.
I was listening to a podcast by The Korean Vegan where they talk about the decline in the pourcentage of vegans in the world and the correlation with big campaigns against plant-based meat convincing people it’s all synthetic and unhealthy. I could understand why Beyond Meat would do something like that in response but I agree that it’s not the way to go.
Honestly declining in vegans has probably has something to do with the fact that it’s not trending as much anymore so ppl don’t care anymore 🤡
Which one was it ?
I still eat that canned peanut meat replacement, its really tasty in stir frys... unfortunately in Australia it's called Nut Loaf
This caused me to walk down memory lane. 1980’s Southern California had quite a few stores and restaurants that were vegan/vegetarian. There were a lot of tofu/soy products as well as rice milk and rice milk ‘ice cream’ which was terrible. One of my favorite stores/cafe was called Mothers Kitchen. Ten year later in Texas there was a lot less available although they did have Whole Foods. It was really expensive though. I remember the Seventh Day Adventist who tend to be vegan or vegetarian ate a lot of unappetizing looking canned stuff back then. Things are a lot better now.😂
Same! Been a vegetarian since early 1970’s and vegan about twelve years ago. Then and now, it is tough to beat California and the Left Coast in general for great vegan food!
Oh yes I only know about Nut Luncheon because I was raised Adventist. 🤣
Cool video. Enjoyed watching. ❤
This is so helpful! Can you make a video with more details about how to build a healthy vegan plate/overall diet? Explain it to me like I’m 5 😅 I get so confused as to what foods are healthy even if they are processed.
Growing up my grandma would cook sosmix or mock duck and it was so delicious. We weren’t even vegetarian. Idk why we’d eat them but it was my introduction to plant based things as a kid. I grew up in the uk. My grandma had also been cooking this stuff from before I was born in the 80’s/90’s. I am so intrigued as to why
It’s cheap
Re: tube foods, there's a paprika paste in a tube that's absolutely delicious and super nice to cook with. It's made in Hungaria and called Paprikakrem.
Completely agree that meat substitutes using studies that don't have anything to do with their specific product is complete BS. Also, I just have a lot of problems with studies like EPIC that rely heavily on nutritional data that comes from nutritional questionnaires. I don't blame them for setting up studies like this, because the data is just naturally very hard to collect, but nutritional questionnaires are just really bad data. Relying on somebody to remember and self-report their own food intake over some period of time has way too high of a margin of error. On top of that, these types of studies are REALLY susceptible to healthy user bias. I don't know how trustworthy the data can possibly be considering the error margins that are not helped by scale.
I eat Beyond Burgers occasionally and am happy to know they do not contribute adversely to my health! Thanks for sharing the video and research!
I became a vegetarian in the late 90s and my intro to mock meats was boca burgers and tofurky. There was also some sort of veggie dog and veggie crumbles at the time but i don't remember the brands.
That’s right veggie dogs! Thank you for the reminder of good campfire memories.
I went vegan for a brief moment like 16ish years ago as a 13 year old and the only vegan cheese were the go veg and this block rice cheese that was hilariously bland and rubbery. And now I have been vegan for almost 7 years. We have so many amazing options now! Sooo much food junk food tho. I def try to have a balance about it. Plus the super snacky convenience foods are expensive lol
Have you tried Wunder Egg? They look like hard boiled eggs but are 100% plant based. I found them at Whole Foods. Way too expensive but I had to try once. Thanks for the review of the Portland brand. Saw it at FM and almost bought it.
Yeah they’re $9 for 6 halves 😅 I haven’t tried them but am so curious!!!
I love how half the comments are about vegan issues and animal rights and the other half of about Batman
14:14 there was a candy that was actually in toothpaste looking containers. I believe they banned them though, so kids would not start eating actual toothpaste. And it was not Warheads, unless what is shown here is a more recent product. What I am talking about looked 100% like both a toothpaste container and how it would come out.
Great video!
“not burger” from Whole Foods is sooooooo good. Once in a while
As a British vegetarian since childhood, we still have a lot of those dry pack mixes I still use them semi regularly.
I mainly opt for Quorn and Linda McCartney for mock meats, as for tube food the only one I can think of is primula but that is cheese, not vegan and not very nice 😂
I was always jealous of the Linda McCartney stuff; it all looks so good 😋 We have Quorn here too, but it doesn't agree with me. I tried one of their products and had an allergic reation.
@@theshunnedBandersnatch the Linda McCartney stuff is SO good, it has gotten better over time too, plus they are making more of their products vegan all the time 🥰

16:25 There's a 6.99 light roast at Trader Joes, in a light green bag. I'm not a big coffee person, but like a light roast.
It was bread and beer that made early civilizations. Many grains were used but wheat was the foundation. The difference between then and now is in the milling and baking. Historically, milling and baking were local activities. Only recently has milling and baking been commercialize on a mass production basis. Stone ground whole wheat gave way to steel milled white bread that was mass marketed. The fact is that milled flour losses it's nutrition after a short time, thus for best nutrition, milling and baking need to be local. Remember the local bakeries? (big box store may have bakeries, but their bread comes in frozen and contains additives.)
I'm with you on long movies. Especially in the theater! I'm going to need to pee. At least at home I can pause it. Why are these movies so long? Pete Davidson made an snl song called "short ass movies" lol
They need to install blacked out restrooms in the top corners of the theater. Tv screen in front of the toilet. Screen turns on when you enter the restroom. So no one misses the flick! Have it be sound proof too. Have screen in front of the sink too.
13:56 I've not used tubed tomato paste, but I know that a lot of cooks like it.
Starting to think ultra processed food might not be bad just because they take good things out and add bad things in, but that they take something essential away which prevents the compounds in base foods from working together in the human body as they are intended. Like there is some research some vitamin supplements could have adverse effect in body. Food is more than just a sum of its components

How do you feel about the RSV vaccine for older adults?
This was interesting enough to listen to while I ate soy milk and cookies 😂
I do vegan keto which means I eat a lot of the same stuff everyday which is fine but sometimes 20g of easy pea protein from Beyond Meat is a nice change on my huge salad.
I hate their marketing but Beyond Meat makes the best tasting vegan burgers out there. The Impossible Burger is a bit too authentic for me, probably because I have been vegan for 20 years.
Your video titles always make me giggle. Also "tube foods" sounds post-apocalyptic.
I´m OK with falafel if I ever want something as practical as meat balls.
only OK? I must make falafel at least once a week.
When You first said it's from three decades ago, I had assumed it was a Wonderfully extensive study, that has been gathering data for over thirty years. But, if it is only from the nineties then, indeed, it should only be used as a fine sidenote, to accompany more recent stuff. There was nothing during the nineties, how many people even were Vegan back then?
Salt indeed is poison, and an extra sugar, or too much fat, sure are harmful. However of course it is impossible, to put whole wheat Bread in the same category as sugary snacks...
And "batman" and all the likes of it are not worthy of human watching. Never have been.
Make a video that's just all the "cutting room floor" stuff. Unnatural Bloopers!
I've been eating the Beyond brand since it has been out. It helps me stay off the meat wagon. Vegan food 20 years ago was absolutely disgusting. As far as cheese goes, I like the Violife brand. It's good and it doesn't get all coagulated when it sets up. Cheers gorgeous. Oh! and WOW! ️ 😍🔥😘 P.S. Robert Pattison is THE WORST! Batman ever! Nuff' said ❤️✌

Ironically, i would love low fat vegan food! I have issues processing fats (all of em) so I really cant eat mock meat/meat substitutes because of it! If you can recommended low fat mock meats let me know! And no, im not on a fad diet/want to eat low fat for diet restricting. I have a condition called EPI
I love the low-fat vegan products because I can pair it with a fatty sauce
Thanks! 🤓
Thank you!!!
As a non-vegan, with multiple vegan loved ones, I love vegan food and make a point of making vegan dinners several times a week, but I really dislike meat substitutes. Vegan food is so tasty, we don't need to ruin it with fake food.
I actually really liked the Batman movie because it was more noir based, like a lot of Batman stories are. So a completely different approach than Nolan's. I have only seen it once but don't remember even really "feeling" the length. :) it's gonna be really personal if people enjoy or not. And yes, emo Batman was my first thought too, haha, but I enjoyed thay. Pretty sure that's what they were kinda going for too. Idk, I was amused by it and it did not bother me personally :D
It amused when I saw it, too. To me, it made sense
18:42 Swayze's going to be canceled for saying no one wants so many Batman movies 😅
Nad iv real or fake?
I love how balanced your takes are! The point of Beyond Meat should be to wean off/ditch meat. It's harm reduction, not dietary perfection. I got a free box of Beyond sausages and Meati cutlets and had to give them to my brother because they taste too authentic.
I disagree: the idea of meat alternatives as vegan training wheels "to wean off meat" should die already.
I'm a vegan of ten years; I eat beyond meat (I didn't even eat meat before: I was a pescatarian before going vegan). I don't eat it every day because I'm aware it's not a health food and also because I don't want to, but it's a nice treat sometimes. The idea that if you're not viscerally disgusted by meat you're just not vegan enough yet and need to grow in veganism until all you desire is steamed kale and bland lentils is silly.
I enjoy Beyond and Impossible products and use them often. I have been vegan for 5 years. I went cold-turkey, no weaning needed. They are vegan so why not eat them if you want to? I eat other mock meats as well. Field Roast is delicious and not meaty. Lightlife is not meaty but tastes like ass lol. Eat what you want as long as you're not exploiting animals!
Not vegan and dont think i ever will be, despite the health reasons and morality reasons (please dont try to convince me. If my own my can’t convince me neither can you.)
But vegan meat alternatives are often tastier to be honest.
I do believe in eating much less meat than what is standard though. But i cant bring myself to cut out bacon and fish and eggs out my diet, so i will continue eating that.
But i think eating a steak once a month is just fine. Currently in a living situation where i dont have much choice anyway though.
the Sifl & Oly brainworms are real.
Beyond and impossible products are slightly healthier than even the best meat and tastier. I actually need salt because of all the water I consume.
I went vegetarian in 2002
I need salt because I'm a eukaryotic organism
Personally for me the beyond meat and all the muck meat and cheese Alternatives don't get along well with my blood glucose
I am curious... Does it bring you joy and pleasure to be negative towards someone who's lifestyle clearly differs from yours? As oppose to willingly choosing to treating people with kindness and respect even though their lifestyle differs from yours.

@@MdoubleHB.x Raw Veganism is not healthy for everyone. Not every human body is created equal. This has been proven by science. I have been vegan for 10.5 years but I know my body well enough to know that eating raw would not be good for me. Critical thinking is key for anyone choosing a diet that works for them based on whatever their specific health. My point is that its ok to have your opinion, but not ok if you are going to shame someone that does it differently. Anyhoo I am glad that you were able to thrive as a raw vegan.
I don't remember much about the Batman movie just that I didn't really enjoy it. I don't like very many of the DC movies though. Wonder woman was awesome.

It was hard to go back to meat, but my auto immune got so bad with beyond meat and plant-based in general. It feels so good to regain my health with animal products for brain and muscle health. I traded off not to have cancer. So I will save myself first before an animal.

I tried Beyond Meat a couple times- but it’s too meaty. Definitely too fatty to eat regularly. Very happy with Whole food - all the way - plus the occasional chocolate bar.

As a committed omnivore, switching to processed meat substitute because you're worried about how processed your sausage is is like switching to smoking lots of weed because you're worried cigarettes were going to give you lung cancer. The fact they have to add a ton of synthetic vitamins to mock meat to get it to properly mimic the nutritional profile of meat should be a dead giveaway. Focus on eating whole foods, the more "natural" (i.e. less selectively bred for calories over nutrition) the better. Of course, there's processing for more nutrient density instead of less, like fermentation, but that's something you figure out on a case by case basis. I just focus on micronutrient density and getting more than the DRI of each micronutrient and essential amino acids and essential fatty acids, which naturally leads to both eating meat and vegetables, especially organ meat and green leafy vegetables. Lots and lots of stews in my diet.
I am vegan. Veganism is not a diet. It’s recognition that all animals lives are sacred and don’t exist as commodities in all forms. As far as ‘food’, as a vegan, my diet is plant based.
Please don’t worry about the food I put in my mouth. Healthy or not.
