Worrying about calcium supplements increasing heart disease risk while promoting a meat-heavy diet...
I used to think the internet was going to make humans smarter. It's having the opposite affect.
Dont be that blind.. You probably know all this but im gonna say it anyway because u seem to forgotten:
1- Calcium is sometimes found with Vitamin K2 in nature, it keeps the calcium out of the heart and going into the bones. Calcium supplements is ok as along as u also have K2
2- Heart disease is linked with saturated fat intake (colesterol bla bla bla) present both in animals and vegetables.
3- Meat-Heavy doesnt need to be fat heavy.
Also you contradict yourself a bit, you question carnivores because they make money on the livestyle.... but dont you? Also didnt you sell a book teaching vegans to be raw thinking it was a good idea? Care when your closet is full skeletons
No hate tho, i agree that WIL cherry picks and good job on pointing doubtful studies, but his point is Veganism is not for everybody, and he is right, even if 99% of population can be vegan, 1% will need meat. There is no standard with no exceptions.. His title is just clickbait for all you vegans.
Besides allergies and sentitivity, genetic dispostion to undermethylation, and liver and stomach problems might be why some people do bad with veganism (meat is high on methionine needed for methylation and contains taurine, improving liver detox).
Same thing goes for meat, people who are overmethylated may lack of folate and dont need as much methionine (found in great portions on animal food) benefiting more from veganism.
WIlliam Walsh has a great book on mental health and nutrition called Nutrient Power (hate the title, good book). He had the largest database on mental health at some point, his intitute cured 30.000 people that weren't doing great on medication. It works for me as well.
@@dr.n0body The primary meta analysis for the link between calcium supplements and heart disease seems a bit weak currently. Not saying a link doesn't exist, but there's no comparison with the mountains of evidence for certain meats and eggs playing a role in heart disease. She even mentioned there doesn't seem to be any evidence that eating small amounts of certain meats doesn't seem to be adverse to health, from there it's just about the animal's well being and environmental factors.
The thing that always seems odd to me is claiming eating only plants and fungi can't be healthy. I'm sure everyone can agree that you can eat an unhealthy diet whether you're carni/omni/herbi or whatever. It seems like the only things to gain by peddling that idea is if you have a financial interest in animal products or you don't like the guilt of choosing to eat animal products so you need to justify it...
@@dr.n0body WIL Promotes a diet high in fatty animal foods
Indeed LOL
Your channel inspired me to go vegan 5 years ago and has kept me sane ever since. Keep on doing what you're doing, Swayze!
Samat sanat
If I ever go vegan it would be because of Swayze.
@@kyivstuff what's holding you back?

Omg same! 5 years ago as well. Didn't start exactly vegan but Swazee encourage the gradual shift for me. It was a flexitarian - pescatarian - vegetarian - vegan pipeline 😅
Being a vegan youtuber must be like you've been sent to a layer of hell where you spend eternity debunking the exact same four or five omnivore myths about vegan diets over and over and over, forever
I'm WAY past thinking he "doesn't understand" things and more likely he is broadcasting his own cope as propaganda and catering to the public's need for feel-good "it's ok to eat as much meat as you want" content. $$$$
Seriously. This guy is peak intellectual dishonesty. Any lifestyle that requires this level of mental gymnastics to justify it should be questioned.
I was vegan for 5 years and vegetarian most of my life before that.
Eating meat was not a "pleasure" thing for me. It was the last thing I wanted to eat. I'd much rather be eating fruit, but meat has healed me.
@@SilphwaveA vegan diet provides everything except vitamin B 12 that you need. I am interested to know what you think meat provided that you couldn’t get from a different source.
@@jgreen9361 Plants don't have A,B6, B12, D, F, K2, CoQ10, taurine, creatine, carnosine, carnitine, CLA, heme-iron.
@@Silphwave It depends which plants you eat. B12 is the only vitamin you don’t get from plants. You get all the amino acids you need from plants. You don’t need heme-iron unless you happen to have a problem with absorbing iron. You may not know this, but there are some meat eaters that are deficient in iron with the same medical condition.
As it is the first on your list.
Sources of vitamin A - Dark green leafy vegetables, for example amaranth (red or green), spinach and chard. Orange-fleshed sweet potatoes. Carrots. Squashes/pumpkins. Yellow maize. Mangoes. Papayas.
Need I go on, to fact check the rest of your list?
There are some meat eaters who are deficient in vitamin A because they don’t eat veg, are lactose intolerant and don’t eat liver or eggs.
I’m only 3 minutes in but just wanted to share that when I went into treatment 5 or so years ago I found out I was slightly anemic and had low iron despite eating a diet with animal products in it and was definitely getting enough calories at the time. The doctor told me it was because of the fact that I have super heavy periods so I just wanted to share that since it gives an example of what you said about how just bc you eat animal products it doesn’t mean you aren’t at risk for iron deficiency if you have heavy periods.
Also another thing is that my dad went into the hospital for a shoulder surgery a few years back and was severely anemic, they ended up finding out he had colon cancer. He went into remission and then fell out of remission recently but now it’s in his liver. My dad eats ALOT of meat and animal products. Like I’m talking meat with every meal.
Sorry to hear about your dad
I have been iron deficient and depressed on an omnivore diet, the same with some people I know, it's just so funny how he completely ignored studies that contradict his arguments.
"Joseph, its 19 people" that one got me😂
Just letting you know that i love your videos. I've been vegan for 2 and a half years now and your videos definitely helped and played a major role in that. Keep it up!
My biggest hangup about going vegan was supplementation. I'm glad following you help me understand more and make an informed décision. 1 year vegan hej 🤘
I think the depression link is like you suggested, we are just more aware of the suffering of animals. I don’t intend this to sound egotistical or as if vegans are better people but the heightened sense of empathy is what lead us to veganism, in general we are just more sensitive about animals and other things this leads to depression. We are sometimes more prone to deep existential thoughts which leads to more depression in some, often those interested in veganism can be more interested in multiple social causes and usually the social causes we are interested in aren’t ones that are joyful to think about. Often we think more about environmental issues and the ecological crisis than some omnivores so of course these sorts of awareness lead to some depression.
This absolutely. I am definitely not prone to depression though something of a deep thinker however when I finally made the connection and became vegetarian and then vegan I actually found myself crying a few times about the suffering and my part in it. I know that it shocked my wife because she had never seen me cry. That was a rare low point for me.
She is plant-based but will not allow consider the harm to animals so is adamant she isn’t vegan.
There might also be more awareness and communication about mental health among vegans.
It's like saying "feminists" are more oppressed than other people because they talk about it
I suffered from sad before I became vegan. Six + years later, it's all but gone. I feel much more purposeful in life, doing my best to advocate for animal rights and reducing suffering. I think that has been a major contributing factor to my depression becoming less of a problem.
This, plus for those that aren't really vegan when it comes to the ethics and just follow a typical vegan/fully plant based diet for reasons like losing weight (we can't really ignore that a big percentage of "vegans" is like this) I think it's very likely that they tend to be more insecure or perfectionistic than the average person which can lead to depression easily.

These have been the best responses to this video. Quality and class all the way through. Looking forward to part 3!
Swazy bringing the facts. There’s so much bad nutrition info out there! Appreciate the work you put into these videos to debunk some of the misinformation. 💚
I've been vegan for 10 years, was vegetarian for 5. I'm also type 2 diabetic. Eating a vegan diet drastically improved my health. These people just!

You forgot to finish your sentence. Maybe due to the brain fog caused by the vegan diet.
hahahaha
Your type two should’ve gone away by now, type 2 is usually reversed with diet and exercise

Your content is so well produced! You rock! Happy Easter everyone who celebrates that!
I love how WIL mentions at the end the benefits of fruit such as the electrolytes...but he's shilling an electrolyte supplement. Big yikes!
"Josef, it's 19 people..." is my personal favourite so far. :)) Thank you, Swayze! Your channel is helping me a lot to transition to a plant-base diet this year.
Your videos are getting better and better! 💕
"Compassion lies in the depressive dimension".
A quote by a psychiatrist, Dr. Akiskal, on the functionality of depression (i.e., why depression per se is not a bad thing). Aside from IQ, and a generally greater awareness of everything that's wrong with the world, it makes sense why vegans would tend to not be Pollyannas.
Thank you for coming back to do more! The video desperately needs a debunking lol
Small little detail, but I noticed that the highlighted parts of the articles that Swayze shows have a subtle zoom effect. Super cool.
20:45 Oh my god. I have been thinking this for years!
I often wonder the same when a carnivore claims that healthy vegan/vegetarians must be cheating on their diets with tiny amounts of meat. Why stuff yourself with meat if apparently you can be perfectly healthy with mostly plant (junk?) foods and the tiniest amount of meat? It is such a self-defeating argument.
Good video. That's where you shine the most.
Great video! Found this channel recently and I'm loving it
I was really upset by that cruel cat experiment that killed innocent kittens 😿 No wonder What I’ve Learned isn’t all for animal rights!
Fiber is amazing. Plants cured my constipation. Thanks plants! 🌱
I appreciate Freelee for getting me on the vegan journey and I appreciate Swayze for keeping me vegan 💖
Edit: also thank you for the researched evidence. These videos are amazing comebacks toward ignorant people commenting on my diet
What I've Learned is a perfect example of the Dunning-Kruger effect in practice.
I’ve been vegan for 11 years, meatless for 20, and I’m a powerlifter- I can deadlift and squat 2x my body weight and bench my body weight.
I’m still waiting to die of a deficiency from my vegan diet, honestly don’t even know how I’m still alive at this point. Wild.
As for depression i can see the reasoning for stopping a vegan diet (I myself started eating meat again as I was barely able to feed myself, and plant food were not doing it). But not attempting veganism/vegetarism because of a slight possible risk of developing a depression is a reach
Look into milk kefir. The rich probiotic content will help with serotonin production and make you feel good. It's also natural.
I appreciate your strong, cogent, fact-based arguments. And thank you for bringing the discussion back to the animals, which makes all the difference. Why be the cause of animal cruelty if you can avoid it? Your videos are providing such a great service! They are always intelligent, provide compelling arguments, and are so no-nonsense.
Great video, love how you cut through the bs ❤❤
lol, I'm having oxalates and lectins for dinner
Such a good video Swayze. I look to you so much, even over Mic, because you present the cold hard facts. Blunt asf haha
I know that you briefly mentioned it at about 19:56 in the video, but i would love for you to make a dedicated video about the importance of correctly deciphering data and the potential shortcomings and/or difficulty of deciphering said data. I can’t imagine the researchers from these studies being to thrilled about how their work is often taken out of context or used in a way that it wasn’t intended for.
Thank you for your work.
Please keep it up, this is so important.
People love you for this, i am one of them.
You gotta turn those crabapples into jelly, syrup, cider, or a baked good! The sour mellows significantly with processing but is still delightfully tart
I thought they were poisonous. That’s a lie?
that carnivore guy on tiktok is literally turning green that cannot be good
Even non-vegan women are iron deficient. They are also prescribed iron supplements and they most definitely work.
Has WIL ever tried treating his depression with meat...? I feel like only a person who has not dealt with depression would say something so stupid. At the end of the day for people who are long term sufferers of depression, diet is not going to make a huge difference unless they are severely malnourished or really deficient in a micronutrient.
Would agree! Usually depression comes from problems we deal within our everyday lives. The problem can be with money, family, work or being somewhere in your life where you almost hate to be and you’re finding it hard to deal with all that and get away. Loneliness is a big thing too.
But in some people, better food and up taking your nutrition would help if the person is on a diet that’s poor in nutrition, gut and brain healthy foods.
+ sleep
Such a balanced overview/reaction video. I’m pretty much vegan/vegetarian MON-FRI, I’m in the the best shape of my life. In fact, I’m more muscular now at 40 than I ever was as an EVERYDAY meat eater in my 20s.
Thank you for your effort again.
I like to think of myself as a rational human being but I have to admit that I struggle with "debunking" bad logic and noticing cherry picking. You do a great job of it! And setting a good example with noting sources in the description as well as the video next to seemingly being unbiased!
I appreciate your content 🙂
We spent most of middle school with that idea but I was mostly annoyed about 5 of his points not everything
N=1 here. Almost 💯 plant based for 5 months now. Weight is stable, controlling my anxiety extremely well (without drugs or therapy) in very stressful life circumstances, and my hemoglobin is 14. And more important than any of it I feel super satisfied and amazing and I love it.
5:25 AMEN!! Thank you for such informative videos 😌
how are you not a vegan nutritionist by now? you seem to know much more than some if the "real" nutritionists out there....❤😂
Ima nurse and lowering fiber can improve constipation. This is a known fact! That said I often find increasing soluble fiber and reducing insoluble fiber can help many
great vid. i do not understand why people not on a plant based diet are so concerned about a plant based diet. seems petty? especially when they can't get the facts right. keep up the good work kid! 😁😁😁
It's the same kind of vibes as people who drink alcohol that are really interested in why you aren't drinking and maybe even pressure you in to having a drink. The ones that do the most of this definitely know that the arguments for veganism regarding animal welfare, environmental impact, and health are compelling. They just feel the need to come up with excuses why they are unwilling to give it a try or why they failed. Without any excuses they'd have to come to the conclusion that they aren't perfect.
@@Cancellator5000 In my country alcohol is part of the culture and especially when growing up. People pressure others because it's a social norm. Not because they want to justify their consumption.
The backlash against veganism seems to me more coming from a defensive position of their consumption and their inertia to change.
Both are not based on data. Both attack the person doing better. But for different reasons.
Is that different from what you experienced in your country?
@@tofu-munchingCoalition.ofChaos Yeah, alcohol is a social norm in many countries. It's the only widespread norm that's a drug habit. The people that generally drink more than is recommended and probably suspect they are drinking more than they should are the ones that tend to try to impose the social norm in a more aggressive fashion.
thank you for this video!
Also high choline intake is associated with poor health outcomes in some studies:
"Choline intake and risk of lethal prostate cancer: incidence and survival"
"Of the 47,896 men in our study population, choline intake was associated with an increased risk of lethal prostate cancer."
(Can't post the study link because UA-cam deletes the comment annoyingly!)
Good video, but have you considered talking about the environmental benefits of eating more plants as well. There's a portion of the population that might not be able to empathize with farm animals but might be worried about the environment
smart+sad=vegan is the funniest and truest thing. anecdotally extremely strong correlation
Great video. Made me chuckle a bit. hehe
Great video! Thanks for cutting through the anti-vegan nonsense.
didn't expect to see my favorite math youtuber here
I analyzed my diet for two days and met all my needs nutritionally. Iron intake was very high but since it's poorly absorbed I still felt I got enough. Calcium intake was adequate. The only zero's were Vitamin D and B12 both of which I supplement. I also take a multi
Are they crabapples? You can get enough pectin from boiling those to make jelly with sweeter fruits that usually have less pectin like strawberries.

Thanks for mentioning the animals on several points. 🤙
Yessss, tell him Swayze!
It's just so comforting to know that there are a lot of people like myself that have to deal with all these assumptions and misinformed people every day. Veganism in combination with empathy and knowledge can be so powerful and good.
Good video. Pretty sad his channel is so popular.
Who else got BINGO on their Anti-Vegan bingo card through this video? Lol. His arguments are that predictable.
I've cut out all meat but I still eat eggs, I get them from the farmers market from pasture raised free range chickens but I kinda want to cut out all animal products, any recs on plant base protein sups? I've tried a few that were awful
I struggled with iron deficiency for years, would run out of supplements and forget to buy them, then be drained until I figured out why. Plant-based for 7 years now and no more anemia!
Great video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I'm not sure if nutritional yeast is considered plant or animal, but it has tons of B vitamins, loads of B12. My vegan protein powder has plenty of iron. I guess I'll have to look into choline supplementation. I'm not currently vegan, but I mostly eat plant based, including soy milk. I do plan on gradually pivoting to a fully vegan diet once I have my own space. I definitely will need to get a vegan cookbook. Thanks for dissecting these cherry-picked, flawed studies. People are biased, good science is not.
Yeast is a type of fungi
😅 I had that same yolk/yoke confusion, I guess I can at least hide behind English being my second language.
Great video!
Just a short fact about the thing with the salmon and the migraine. As far as migraines are now understood the recommendation is to eat a portion of complex carbohydrates before sleeping. Reason: no substantial drop in glucose delivered to the brain during sleep hence one reason less that might trigger a migraine. The general recommendation for migrains is not going low carb, with no carb being even worse but getting sufficiant amounts of complex carbohydrates during also during the day to keep the brain with enough fuel. The brain needs even more fuel compared to non migraine patients.
So for someone eating low calories it is of no surprise if there are frequent migraines.
Unless you already have problems with stomach and with absorbing nutrients from your food majority of what he says is useless. It can be a case for people with chronic illnesses (I have a stomach issue that makes me not absorb B12 through stomach and my dietitian I really need to monitor some other nutrients levels, cos it may lead to problems with absorbing other things like iron, so I need to pay attention to absolution... But it's because I'm sick. Normal people don't have to pay that much attention to it

18:30 Once again, this points to how WIL isn't really committed to finding truth.
In Statistics/Science in general, when there is an idea you wish to find evidence for, indicating that the idea is empirically true, the first step in finding that evidence is assuming that the _opposite_ of your idea is true. Then, throughout various observations and tests, you see if you can _disprove_ that opposite idea. This disproval doesn't automatically mean that your initial idea is 100% right, but you're now a step closer to proving that it is.
The whole pursuit of Science is to move closer and closer to determining how your idea could be absolutely true. We as a species might never reach that point, mostly because of how some philosophers claim that truth can't ever be realistically grasped, only approached, but we can get more and more confident in some things being more true than other things.
WIL, from what I can tell, is approaching his truth seeking from the contrapositive/opposite direction: where he's assuming his idea is _correct,_ and tries to find information to _prove_ so (instead of starting with assuming the idea is incorrect and disproving that). This can lead to the truthseeker falling into bias traps that don't really illuminate any meaningful evidence that beneficially contributes to the idea.
Good principles to keep in mind, especially when talking to non-vegans!
What, you don't believe that salmon cured Alyse's mold allergy?? 😅
The tone in the "Joseph... It's 19 people." 😂

10:08 they are goitrogenic. Blocking iodine receptors.
I get the impression that WIL couldn't do a debate on what he was presenting. He reads as if he is working off a prompter with material he is only vaguely aware of.
I just think people who go vegan are more prone to depression? Something about the animal empathy and environmental concerns just lead us to more anxiety/depression? Have no data to back this up. I just know I suffered from anxiety long before going vegan.
5:50 That was hilarious.

Just wanted to mention about the aboriginal thing. (I think what the study was talking about was traditional views about health/illness in aboriginal communities.)

(RD student graduating in 4 weeks). Salmon could have contributed to a reduction in her brain fog because of its high vitamin D especially if she was previously deficient. However (it could have been a vegan supplement)
We look for the deficiency not the diet. And vitamin D deficiency and academic performance is linked with significant correlation to the level of vitamin d deficiency and academic performance.
This is why we recommend everyone especially vegans to see an RD
She most likely wouldn’t need to eat salmon to fix that symptom.
But I can’t say more without knowing more.
