PhotoRec TV While I already own the a6300 and a7r2 despite the price and minor trade offs the RX100 6 faces, I have missed plenty of good shots due to not having a camera on me at all. Sure my iPhone has a camera, but it has its limitations. I would like to have an RX100 my kit that way I can always have something to document with wherever and whenever. Great vid.

everything seems good but the VI only gives 2.8 instead of 1.8. What do you think? 1.8 is good to create the bokeh. 2.8 good but not as good as 1.8, and especially for low light situation. This is dilemma

Great review video from such an amazingly beautiful place. The Sony RX 100 VI does seem a fantastic camera and that zoom, Wow! The camera has all the bases covered if not a little high priced for the every day traveler.
If I had $1300 I would purchase two 32G SD cards and the rest of the money on joining your next photography Adventure at Mt Rainier. The scenery I've seen lately is nothing more than breath taking.

    Great review!
I have a lot of Sony gear (A9, A7R-III) and a nice collection of lenses. True, these camera produce images which are better than the RX-100. However, a camera that is not with you worth exactly 0. Unless I am going to a trip that is designated as photo taking trips (which I like very much), the only camera I have on me, and which fits in my pocket (with an extra battery and a tiny tripod) is the RX 100.
I originally bought the RX-100 as part of an underwater photography (scuba-diving) kit. I fell in love with this camera. Now I have the VI version which I find to be much more useful than the previous iterations.
Regarding the price, it really depends on your point of view. If you see it as a point of shoot camera than it is indeed expensive. But if you see it as a high quality miniature pro-consumer camera (which in my opinion is really the case), then it is very inexpensive, it cost half than the A7-III (body only, without any lens) and the probability that you will actually have it when you need it is much much higher. So to me it is not expensive at all.

I'm glad you mentioned major sports games and concerts. You're right that ILCs (and sometimes superzooms) usually aren't allowed in those big venues. You combine the form factor with the 200mm, and then you have a very compelling option for those events (even with the tighter aperture and other limitations). I still don't see myself spending that amount of money, but I am intrigued. It may be something for some folks to consider.

This was by far the best review of a point and shoot camera I’ve watched. Most reviewers do a good job of covering the pluses and minuses. While this review also did that, the reviewer wasn’t hesitant to set this camera apart from the others as being, arguably, the best point and shoot on the market for the extra reach it gives you, along with the pop-up viewfinder. The 24 fps of the dog running was unreal for a p&s. Other photos, including macros of wildlife were also VERY impressive. Also appreciated the example of background sound interference due to not having an external mic. I could confidently buy this camera from this review alone. Not sure I saw any use of the built-in flash. That would have been nice, but overall, 98 out of 100. Thanks!

Can anyone provide any insight on the importing of video files into Lightroom CC that are recorded from the RX100m6? The video files from the RX100m4 always have the wrong timestamp and the filename always begins with a totally different format than the filenames of the images. Whenever I delete the video files from the folder in the SD card, it just starts namimg the video files from 0001 again. So, I have numerous video files with the same filename, i.e. C0001.mp4

I got mine at Best Buy open-box for $500...talked the manager down from $550 because it didn't have a battery or cable. I had one from my DSC-400HX and they use the same battery as well; the battery is also on clearance too for $6.49. Hit the jackpot again because I got the 2 year warranty for only $32. Can't wait to learn how to use it.

The integrated lens of this compact camera has 15 elements in 12 groups with 8 aspheric elements including. 8 aspherical elements. Very impressive.
The magnification is 0.59x which is good for macro photography.
The Anti-distortion (no rolling shutter) electronic shutter is 1/32000sec, which with daylight can capture the fastest objects.
Burst shooting is 24 fps with with AF/AE tracking and raw files. With an external sound recorder can deliver impressive videos of short duration. Of course very special post processing is required.
For normal 4K video the supporting S-Log3, as well as S-Log2 and the XAVC S are really good.
The 960fps for slow motion video is impressive too.
It doesn't support SDXC Memory Card(UHS-II) which is very fast and useful with burst shooting.
How much expensive or difficult is an UHS-II SD slot?
The Hi-Speed USB (USB2.0) port could be USB-C 3.1, I wonder why most premium cameras are stuck to USB 2.0 so many years. After all this camera is expensive.
Its Bluetooth can connect to an iPhone and geotag directly the photos during shooting. Bluetooth can be activate for hours on the iPhone and Cameras because it inherently consumes very little energy contrary to WiFi. However how difficult is for most cameras to implement a GPS. That camera is useful mostly for traveler and constant geotagging is highly important.
High end smartphones can shoot great photos and have nearly replaced all compact cameras. Those fantastic features of the Sony RX100 MK VI may leave uninterested many people.
Personally I would like a compact camera with ultra wide zoom lens. Ultra wide lenses give very special perspective which make photos very special and different. However usually ultra wide zoom lenses aren't very flattering for portraits and that make them unfavorable.

    • @johnsmith1474
      @johnsmith1474 5 років тому

Why would anyone consider some number of lens elements "impressive"? The magnification is of the viewfinder, not of the image ie it has nothing to do with macro per se.

Great review of the most expensive RX100! @5:15 █ WHY NOBODY NEVER mention that the screen on all RX100 models is █ AS BIG AS ON A7 █ series! Had the A7iii which I enjoyed using with the Sony 24-105 G lens on my trip in Japan last year. I had to sell my Camera so I'm looking to buy a travel Camera and the RX100 VII I think is the right choice with it's new features and it has similar AF capabilities to that of the mighty A9. Reliable fast auto focus is really important so I can just focus on the composition of my photo's.
Pro Pocket Camera and I like the fact that the menu layout is similar to that of the A7 Mirrorless Camera's so when the time comes to own the A9 one day I will feel right at home.

I am very interested in the Sony RX100 MVI, and your review has been a great help. I am going on a backpacking trip to the Rocky Mountains this July, and I know the camera is the one I'd like to bring. However, I'm also going to my high school son's spring baseball tournament in Orlando this March. Can you give me your thoughts regarding my taking pictures of him pitching/batting? With such a fast autofocus, I would think I could get some pretty decent pictures. With the "burst," would I get a bunch of pictures on my SD card which are ready to import into Photoshop Elements, or is there something else I'd need to do? I have not done anything with Raw before, so I'm not sure what's involved with turning those into pictures I can print. I have used a Canon Rebel tsi for years, and I was hoping the Sony RX100 Mark VI could be a replacement. Thanks in advance for your reply--

Nice video! Cool to do it at Mt Rainier. I have a Panasonic LX10 which compares nicely with the RX100 but only costs $550 with SD card and case. Only a 3X zoom and no EVF but it does shoot great 4K video for 15 minutes. I think the RX100 is only five or seven minutes isn't it? Also the LCD screen doesn't flip backward for overhead shooting. That's the one thing I miss the most that I've gotten so used to on my GH5 and G85. They both have a one-inch sensor but the LX10 is better in low light at f/1.4 and Pansonic's menus/interface and touch display is so much better than Sony's.

Very good review! I own a lot of big Sony stuff and also the RX100 I. This thing would be perfect as pocket cam, but 1300$ that’s stupid expensive. I think that this is not a good move from Sony, because there will be not many pepole willing to pay that amount of cash for it. For around 800$ this thing would be the real deal and thts even more than you have to spend for an A7 with a 28-75mm. Yeah, the prices sounds really stupid, when I think about it.

Good review but a bit misleading to say that nothing comes close to it. The Panasonic ZS200/TZ200 has more zoom, a fully functional touch screen (you can navigate the menus), 24mm to 360mm range, 15 minutes of video (doesn't overheat), has bluetooth connectivity, you don't have to pop up the EVF.....and it costs a lot less.
The RX100 VI is certainly a very good compact but most would argue it's not the best especially considering the price.

People that can afford it :) I agree it's pricey and I might seem like a rich youtube but I drive a beat-up car with an oil leak and save my pennies for good lenses so it is out of my price range but if I was more of a traveler, less of a photographer it would be high on my list.

Huzaifah Empire I’m a photographer and know the sales pretty well. I’m saying I don’t know who I would recommend this too. I don’t know who it’s for. It’s a cool camera but the price puts it into another category of camera

Ok I’m just giving my thoughts. No reason to call ppl “shortminded”. Sounds like you got it all figured out. Cool camera

It's for me. Wanted a capable camera with a view finder and good zoom that I can carry with me in my pocket or in my scooter. Has the features of a full on mirrorless. Would be easy to combine it with a camera like the Sony 6500 or ar7iii. It's a specialized camera.............only time will tell about how many folks will find it to be the camera for them.

$1200, no ext. Mic input, slowwwww lens (f/4.5 with a 1 inch sensor), terrible battery. No thank you. I’ll, use my phone. Do you have any financial connections to disclose with this review? I see there is a give away contest so I wonder what the Sony connection is. Thanks.

Absolutely no financial connections to disclose. We are buying the Sony for the giveaway. "slowwwww lens" - can you share a faster lens at 200mm with a 1" sensor? I agree this camera is not for anyone but when you knock it for a slow lens when there is no competition I get a bit confused.

PhotoRec TV No competition at $1200. Panasonic (ZS200) produces cameras with longer lenses at 400 or 500 dollars less and although slower at the long end have much more reach.

Huzaifah Empire I’m not here to buy an overpriced piece of gear. There are cheaper alternatives not discussed in the video. I’m glad there were no financial motives but I was curious after watching this review.

Mitchell, The Panasonic models are noticeably less sharp, especially at the longer end. Having said that, the pani is the better bang for buck unless you need the most powerful in it's size. The TZ 200 pani is also not cheap at 800, also had no mic input, no flip screen, and has a smaller aperture at 200mm. Also focus system and eye af is superior on the Sony and has 24fps burst and higher fps slow motion. No doubt it's a more niche camera now but the price is somewhat expected given the feature set in a smaller body (even smaller than the pani).
