When I get a camera, the first thing I do is change some of the default settings. I want to get the best the camera has to offer when I capture photos and video. Here are my Top 10 settings I changed first on the Sony RX100 MK VI.

I just got a RX100 VI myself and your video was extremely helpful in wading through all this camera has to offer. I'll be looking forward to more instructional videos.
I was a little surprised that you don't use the view finder much. I use it most of the time and is one of the main reasons I bought this camera instead of one of the others out there.

This was wonderful. Helped a lot with the new RX100 M6 setup. I do have an annoying situation which I can't seem to find an answer through the manual or other posts. I have a square bracket ( two lines, almost a TV shape) that appears on both the viewfinder and EVF. No matter what I do with the display menu ( grid lines, etc ) I cannot get rid of these brackets. Is there some setting I performed that caused this to be permanently displayed, regardless of which mode I'm in? Hoping it relates to some menu function I changed from the default settings.

If you’re manually focusing on aperture priority mode or manual mode, how do you change the aperture when rotating the ring changes the focus?

I need to make an approx. 20 minute video using my rx100 V1 But I don’t want it to freeze up because of overheating. Any suggestions as to exactly what settings, accessories( media card etc. ) I might need? From what you say using 4K might be optically visually better but for only a few minutes.

The camera is quite small in my hand even with the Sony Attachment Grip.

I have a problem. I’ve seen told that to delete multiple images from my Rx100 V1 all I have to do is go into Menu and scroll to Playback. Click on Delete BUT that function is not enable. I’ve tried switching to all possible choices eg. Program or Auto or Manual etc. unsuccessfully. ALl i get is This Function is currently disabled.
Do yoy know how to use Hybrid log gamma profile while recording 4K video?

Thanks for this video. Sometimes a bit fast in showing the selected menu points. Hold camera steady for 2 sec so that one can see clearly which selection to make. Thanks

Good stuff here! A couple of thoughts: Thanks for the Newport 30 recommendation. Mine is arriving in the mail today. Over four years ago I bought a Lowepro case for my RX100M2. There are lots of similar looking ones available today and after looking at dimensions I guessed that the Newport 30 was the closest one to what I already have. Good to know that I picked well. Regarding custom buttons, I have the Trash Can set to ISO as my personal preference because I have always used the Flash button on the control wheel for AEL Toggle. I do wish people would stop calling this a "point & shoot" camera! There is no simple pointing and shooting with the RX100 series cameras! I think the photographer's workload with this camera can be as high as for any DSLR or interchangeable-lens mirrorless.

Very informative,thank you! My biggest gripe with this camera is the audio. The videos I take come out great,the audio to them makes them unusable. Tried all the microphone settings and still garbage audio. This camera is strictly just for pictures for me.

AFAIK creative styles apply exclusively to JPEG. RAW is RAW.
I don't get change settings to 4k 30p 100m, just not appears. Why?
First time using a Sony, good information but sometimes a little fast and I can’t exactly tell what you are doing with the camera. I am stuck on setting the center button to focus standard. I got as far as changing the setting to focus standard but my center button doesn’t seem to move the focus area around like shown in your video so not sure if I have done something wrong…..need help please.
Are you also in Flexible Point Auto Focus for your focus mode? Otherwise this option won't do much.

Yes, AF-C is fine. I am sorry, I meant Focus Area. Change Focus Area to Flexible Spot. Then you have the option to move the focus area around the screen.

Could you tell us a bit about the flash sync speed at different focal lenghts? Is it still indipendant like at the earlier RX100 cameras or does it vary like at the RX10 series? Regarding the size of the focus point, try turning the back wheel once it´s in this light grey mode, it should cylce through small, medium and large.
In aperture priority mode with the flash enabled the shutter speed is automatically set between 1/30 (wide) and 1/50 (tele). I've never liked Sony's choice of shutter speeds for flash on these cameras (I have the RX100M2 and M6). My preference is to shoot in manual at between 1/100 and 1/200 when using flash, and I usually have the aperture wide open since the flash is so tiny. The flash will sync at 1/200 just fine. At those speeds the shutter speed has no effect on exposure since the flash duration is so much shorter than that.
Whats the fastest sync speed it can handle at tele and wide angle?
Since the RX100 doesn't have a focal plane shutter, I suspect the answer is "no limit" or "as fast as you want". My M6 battery is in the charger right now, but I tested my M2 and flash works OK at 1/2000 second. Sync speed is really a focal plane shutter issue AFAIK.
OK, the M6 shutter speed goes to 1/32000 second. (!?) However, when the flash is deployed it reverts to 1/2000 at all focal lengths. So, the answer to your question is 1/2000 second.

Set the mode to scene then use the front ring and rotate it until macro comes up. Try to use a small tripod. you might want to take advantage of the touch screen to get the right spot in focus.

I don't understand the problem with f2.8 as the widest opening. The early lenses I had for my SLRs were 2.8, and that was when the fastest film was 400 ASA. I have a few f1.9s which is a necessity with 400ASA film. :-( (They do still make film, right?)

Nice review, but definitely not the way I've set up all my RX cameras. For starters, most newbies won't want to shot jpg + raw. But it's nice to give people a choice.
I've recently done some tests with mine and it's much better to leave the lens on the wide setting and crop the image rather than use the zoom. The final image will be much better. In fact Sony would have done themselves a favour by putting an f1.2 prime on instead. But I suspect peeps wouldn't go for it.

Optical zoom is far superior to crop.
Clearly you know a lot about the RX100M6. The leather jacket case for the 4 and 5 doesn't fit the M6!!! what do you use to walk around with the camera and to protect it. With my 4 I always used the leather jacket case from Sony. Do you know if they will be introducing a new case that will fit the M6?? Thanks.
Actually the Sony leather case does fit the RX100VI, I know this because I bought it for the IV and now use it for my VI :)
Warning about the new Auto pop up EVF. Many, many users are complaining about the loose diopter adjustment which gets knocked out of user's alignment after a few pop ups of the EVF. Sony goofed on this design. Check out the Digital Digest's video on that.
Sorry, but you were right in the other video and wrong in this one. The 180 degree rule is about using as shutter speed the double of the exhibition frame rate, not the aquisition frame rate. If you will use a 60fps video in a 30 fps timeline use 1/60th of a second as shutter speed.
May be cut it short and start at 6:15 in the video....otherwise too long, for people like me who just want meat on the bone.

Mine doesn't have the choice of "flexible spot WIDE", it has " WIDE" and "EXPAND FLEXIBLE SPOT" and "flexible spot M".

Better just not buy the Sony RX100 VI (mark6), the camera literally broke down after 1 year (flash broke down). Worse after sell service because only sony distribute part for sony camera, and the markup price just unreal, save up for another good camera like nikon, canon or fujifilm.
Is there anything better? RX 6 has fastest autofocus, great zoom and best image quality. All other compact camers are bad in image quality. Better get samsung s22, s23
4:43 and exactly why I hate the workflow on Sony... features don't just disappear on other cameras when you have it on Auto vs some other setting. Fujifilm probably gets it the simplist: There's Auto Shutter, Auto Aperture, and Auto ISO (3 separate dials)... when all three are selected you're in "Auto"... but you can still use any feature the camera has to offer. Menu items don't get greyed out. It's really stupid and making me hate this camera. It's only my backup camera when I don't want to carry a huge rig... but the menu is making me want to just leave it on Auto. It's too much of a pain in the ass otherwise.
