MR2 takes Miss Daisy parts (Water to air Intercooler Install)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 кві 2020
- In this episode Marty is recycling parts from our EJ powered VW Beetle project to get Water to Air Intercooling on his MR2. Then it's time to install an ECU to try and make it all work. More problems are discovered as the car is slowly transformed from a rusted nugget into a reborn JDM weapon (using copper pipes and bends from the hardware shop) ready to defeat Moog's Moon Buggy.

Mixing Copper and Aluminum is generally pretty bad as it leads to all sorts of gunk piling up in the radiator and intercooler channels.
Fair enough this is a short run project car, but you'll want to get that copper pipe swapped out if you sell the car on.

Just one tip, when you are bending stuff in your bench vice bend it towards the bench, the vice is MUCH stronger in that way. You are pounding into the body of the vice. Bending away from the bench you are putting all the force and pounding into only the jaw of the vice. If you watch the video you can see the vice jaw flexing a lot, and cast iron is not meant to flex.

If you are afraid of this then no "proper" old car is worth buying for you, be it a slightly older JDM K-Car or a completely rusted out Leyland MINI.
@@4IN14094 Many older cars are easy and fun to work on. In fact, most older cars are actually fun and easy to work on. Buying an MR2 is jumping in an exotic challenge knowing it's going to be exactly that: a challenge. It's definitely not for everyone.

I bet he's going to crush the MR2 anyway. Too much grief.
Don't french fry when you should pizza or you're going to have a bad time...
Yes. But with these dimensions, a good anti corrosive and regular changing of the coolant it will last for years before it's too gunked up.
thanks for the comment, I was looking if someone had allready warned him
I am 99% sure that even toyota pink super long life coolant is not compatible with copper, and that's probably the less reagent coolant there is
This thing is going to slaughter the Moonbuggy!
When you are soldering copper pipe, keep your flame on the bottom and hold the solder on the top - when it melts on top the heat will pull it all the way into the bottom instantly :)
Props on going water to air. Best idea on a rear engine car.
I too, built a turbo beetle with a water to air and front mount heat exchanger. Worked very well.
On the subject of Miss Daisy, I'm still very disappointed you didn't...
1. Tell us the 1/4 mile time.
2. Build it properly (ie, Subaru trans and proper bracing)
3. Keep it together.
Bet you wish you'd just kept it now. Coz the MR2 ain't loving you back. LOL
At 14:40 Daniel Ricardo cames in to help out with the ECU install.👊
It's not like he has anything better to do.
Mixing copper and aluminum in the same cooling system ... that will eventually end in corrosion and failure. Maybe it will be good enough for the short term if you don't like the car and don't plan to keep it.
It will be someone's problem some day.
Not if he uses proper inhibitors
It'll be fine if he uses a decent coolant with corrosion inhibitors and the charging system is good, if not the it'll start to do the electrolysis thing and he'll eventually have problems, but even then that'll still gonna be years down the line given how little distance MCM cars cover in mileage, and not to mention its basically a seperate system from everything else on the car, its not as if it ties into the engine coolant, so the only real issues would be the water 2 air system which you would just swap out for upgraded parts.
However i do think he will run into heatsoak issues running the car on a circuit though given the rad size and core size, it would be fine for a drag car like miss daisy when its only running flat out for 13 ish secs at a time, but i reckon he's gonna heat soak it pretty quick on a track.
@@weegaz22 Yeah, radiator size needs to be bigger, I mean, take a look at Binky's radiator, that thing is no joke.😛
I feel like this car won't survive long enough for corrosion to be an issue. Things going to blow a gasket, rings or something else long before the long term issues pop up. Hell if it can't beat the buggy it'll probably be a pancake before long!
Corrosion will be pretty instant helped along by the heat and start to eat away at the whole system and will make all parts unusable going forward... it wont take long and should be replaced ASAP
Hi Marty,
friendly reminder that your pipes being copper and the radiators (and other parts) being aluminium there's gonna be some corrosion over time. Make sure to check that out frequently and use anti corrosive additives!
Some things, no matter how much you want it to be simple, will fight to the end.
The final result will be worth all the effort you are putting into it.
Keeping a good thought for your tribulation.
