I have a 1.8l and I want to boost it now more than ever before because of you guys : )
No fairy tale. The 2ZR *can* handle the power. There were other factors at play that caused their failure, IMO. Check out Lotus Elise Cup260 (stock 2ZR-powered), supercharged @250BHP. I am far from easy on my 2ZR-swapped and turbo'd Yaris and it handles the power with ease. Turbokits.com sold many, many kits for this engine and have very few reported failures. I remember when I bought my jeep (M38A1). Somebody wiser and smarter said "If you paid $2,500 and put $10,000 into restoring it you will have a really nice $5,000 jeep".
Yeah, some things just aren't worth the monetary value. I see it in the classic car world too. Like, "cool story dude. You spent 10k on your engine/trans and 10k on your paint before you even cover suspension, wheels, and interior on your 4 door late 70s impala. I'll give you $6k. because that is what a late 70s impala 4 door is worth"
There are plenty of cars (all Japanese) that I would absolutely restore from the ground up, as long as I had the money of course. I wouldn't care about the resale as long as another 90s Japanese car is continuing to live on rather than getting parted out and dwindling the numbers of that car.
@Ross Bourne but some people think they made a good investment with things like this. Or they build it and then sell it without over driving it. So now you put 15k in a 5k car, and you allready want to sell it. And then they expect people to really pay the 15k they spent on it, or sometimes even 20k. But people wil never pay the money you put in it, especially if its spent on mods. Same with putting 15k worth of stereo equipment in your car and having the best sounding car ever. Yes its nice, but people might pay you 500$ more to leave it in, and else they wil just walk away because they dont care that much.
Ironically, I pulled my beloved 5.9L truck off the road n begrudgingly got a yaris to save on gas... THE DAY I came home with this little turd was the same day you guys started the series lol. This is absolutely one of my favorite videos you guys have done. Feels super real and honest. It's great to know what stuff really costs. My favorite is still the German trip.
Totally agree. It's very close to the cost of my build, which was around $6000.00 USD for swap and turbo kit. Like them, I did the work, so no labour charges. ua-cam.com/video/qH2HCcNXF28/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/6eJXEtcY0RQ/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/fFvwnmc09Qc/v-deo.html
Drive-in drive-out turbo builds for k20's in the UK is about £6-8k depending who you go to, no eBay parts, all real and fully mapped etc. Only thing they don't include is exhaust/ECU. That's about 15000AUD, so if there's anything I can take from that is you might as well buy genuine parts if you're dumping 4 or 5 figures...
@@_Professor_Oak Good info. I've heard eBay turbos are hit and miss. Not a risk I was willing to take. The BLF turbo that came with my kit, is US made and I ended up with more or less a lifetime warranty. I am a proponent of using quality parts. That said, I'd sure love a Haltech standalone or ECUMaster Black instead of the F/IC piggyback.
Thank you for the honesty. Seriously, soo many youtube videos of a "2k build off" and they have parts just magicly arive. And tuning and machining done for free. Thats not reality for 99% of car enthusiasts. Love your work guys looking forward to seeing whats next

$30 dollar Peugeot bicycle is costing me $400 so far in restoration. Cheap education for my son to strip it down and build it from the frame up. AWESOME series guys! Yaris Hilton is an inspiration. Someone will say build an engine on a stand first, forged internals, yadda yadda, yadda. BUT... the 2ZR-FE is a killer easy awesome engine swap. I quote Jeremy Clarkson " It Does not matter what car you have... driving on the very edge of the capability of that car, is what makes driving it exciting. " Peace from Canada. It's Cold here in Winnipeg.
Love this! The 2ZR-FE is also easily capable of handling the power they put down on the dyno (Lotus Elise Cup 260 @250BHP, stock 2ZR). I agree, the swap is really easy compared to other possible swaps. Here's my 2ZR-swapped and turbo'd 2006 Yaris RS. BTW, used to visit Winnipeg a lot, taught in Grand Rapids. Blue Note Cafe! It does make sense. The 2ZR is a solid mill for around 8 - 12 psi. It should have handled it, but I think their engine was worn out. I think they had lots of fuel. But, no gauges (AFR, oil pressure, boost, IAT, EGT etc). I'm running the stock Yaris fuel pump and getting 11.5:1 at full boost. Here's my little 2Zr-swapped and turbo'd beastie. I have really enjoyed the Yaris series, I know exactly about the hi's and the lows, costs ect with my own Turbo Starlet build /never ending project. Great work guys.
Folkert1988 I think people are looking at it wrong, even the way Marty said bye to Yaris Hilton, almost sarcastic, a song was made for the car by a group called K Swop, And when does Marty ever wear an I love driving Honda’s t shirt? Surprised no one has worked it out yet.....
zoidberg444 or the ghost is turbo Yoda, who’s mad he couldn’t help turbo the Yaris. Notice how not as many episodes of Skid Factory have been released recently, well there has been but tech talks? Possibly could’ve been sourcing an engine or doing something for the boys
Emil Kozak id say craziest case scenario, the “supercar” they’re referring to is a current Civic Type R that’s been binned, they’ll put the engine into Yaris Hilton and then remove it and put it in Marty’s Gemini. That’s only a possibility, but unlikely
@@tomwilliams6401 They could have found a wrecked NSX, in which case they could swap the Yaris drivetrain into the NSX, then swap the Gemini body over the now Corolla-powered-Yaris-powered NSX. After that I guess supergramps blows it's head gasket or something.
Sad to see Yaris Hilton go, but I love the concept as a whole. Keep it up. I tire of seeing channels get big and then start modifying Lambo's and Ferrari's. Basically losing their connection with their base
You guys touched on what made the car scene so good back in the day. People would take whatever they owned or could afford no matter what make or model it was and start modifying it and building it up better. Back then people didn't even care if the car was a tired old hand me down economy car from a parent or relo. That attitude of using what you have and your imagination to make it your own is something that's missing from today's scene (except the mini truck guys, they're still doing great stuff).
Shame to see her go..this was one of my favourite build. I remember in one of the Forza games the first tier was these small cars and my Yaris was one of the most fun cars to drive in the game. (I have a Sim setup so even better)
@@_Professor_Oak When you have a wheel and pedal setup with manual H shiftier and clutch with the game set to all assists on simulation its actually a very enjoyable experience.
Building a small NA engine car and getting the most out of it takes more time and effort than getting a big engine car and bolting on mainstream mods. It's not cost effective spending a few thousand to get 100 bhp more but it's so much fun and a learning curve.
This was a great series! Thank You. For me it was, do most of it all at once. I live in the states and I imported a 5 speed 180sx type 2 w/ sr20det and did all my mods that I pre-purchased as soon as it arrived (maintenance items, coilovers, bushings, wheels/tires, strut bars, sway bars, intake, exhaust). I'm in the car at $15k total (car, shipping, customs, maintenance, mods) and its an absolute blast to drive and take through the mountains. Ya i could drop another $5k and be up to 400whp etc. But right now its just fun and reliable as a handling touge build
I would truly like to know. One thing I have noticed is that these UA-cam creators that have been successful never mention what they are making, it has to be considerable as many do nothing else but UA-cam and seem to live very well.
Honestly I could care less how much they made off the series. They lost their ass on the car, to make the content. The purpose of the projects like this is just "let's do this ridiculously stupid thing, and entertain people". Just like guys like tavarish, and hoovie. The projects dont need to make money, it's just content for us.
@@Hoggdoc1946 adam lz, who's a car youtuber if you didn't already know, did a video saying what he profits from some of the cars hes bought by making videos on them
Well they said at 3mil they would start the yaris and they are at 3.24mil now so if they only got 200k subs thats still a decent amount, and close to 1mil views on a lot of their yaris videos. I'd assume that would be more than 13k but eh idk.
W Hoggdoc there’s a couple reasons they don’t talk about how much they make. First of all, it’s somewhat against UA-cam guidelines to reveal how much you make from your ads on UA-cam. Secondly, it would totally change some of the perception of the viewers if you knew how much money they actually make. You would think it’s way less realistic that you would be able to do what they’re doing, which is against the ethos of the channel really. If you think about it, they do 2-3 cars a year, always more than A$10k total project, and they wouldn’t be able to do it consistently over the past 9 years if they were losing money or not making enough to pay themselves and their crew. Finally, another thing to think about is that they sell these cars after they’re finished with them (if they still work). Guaranteed, these cars are sold at a premium price compared to if your brother and your cousin did these mods, because they’ve been on a popular UA-cam series. So I doubt that they make real losses on the cars, and they probably won’t make a loss on this car either.
Spread cost when moding is one of those thing the average joe doesn't realize, when I told people I spent over 50k on my Supra I used to get "that a deposit on a house" but that is over 8 years not at 1 once lol. Keep up the great videos guys! :)

Now I'm hoping you'll end up building a street/strip car out of a 2016 Camry like my wife drives... Top work, keep on keeping on
This about sums up my experience boosting my FTO 😂 the incremental spending is what gets you. Parts add up, labour adds up, anything custom is expensive. At the end of the day you get something more unique, but I think there's definitely something to be said for a "fast" stock (or lightly modified) car. Less headaches from things breaking, less engineering, less defects. All part of the game!
well done boys, it was really good to see you put all the actual money spent on these things, so often it's not covered and it appears way cheaper than reality. Thank you.
Every time I watch this channel I get inspired to work on my cars and make videos. It's definitely not as easy as they make it look and takes twice as long when you are filming whatever you are working on.
Or buy a Kia Pro_ceed GT with change and warrenty. I think $13k is low estimate non mates rate but good on you guys for showing receipts. RIP Yaris Hilton
I loved this series! In highschool I had a 2001 corolla that I inherited from my grandmother, and everyone else had civics and trucks they were modding. I was also trying to figure out what I could do to that thing to rival my friends and never did anything to it except change the spark plugs and crash it! It was a fun series for me and a little nostalgic, brought me back to those days of dropping that little auto slush box into 2 and trying to get anyone to race me on the highway lol
Before the video starts i will say that the total cost was around 5k dollars Edit: well i was way off, even though i wasn't counting the price of the car, i was still 5k off the mark

It's not just UA-cam though, Marty and Moog have full time jobs, own a restaurant, Moog produces sick music, they sling merch, probably invest in other companies / real estate / shares too because that's what entrepreneurial people do. I love them, hundred percent inspiration for young people, myself included. For an approximate 6.6m views on the yaris Hilton series so far they would have made an average $13k in ad revenue alone depending on how many people watched ads (range of 0-25k). I am far from easy on my 2ZR-swapped and turbo'd Yaris and it handles the power with ease. Turbokits.com sold many, many kits for this engine and have very few reported failures. Monkey Wrench Racing are pros at this and in speaking with them, I'm convinced that a properly turbo'd and tuned 2ZR can handle 275hp.

Buy a squarebody for under 2k, minimal rust, clean it and double or triple your money. Done it 3 times already.
I just want to buy a Datsun Pulsar, upgrade to a bigger engine and custom body kit. Not about the money, more about the street cred.

The big block actually makes a lot of sense value vise, just curious if the better fuel pump would've made a difference for it without the turbo.
It does make sense. The 2ZR is a solid mill for around 8 - 12 psi. It should have handled it, but I think their engine was worn out. I think they had lots of fuel. But, no gauges (AFR, oil pressure, boost, IAT, EGT etc). I'm running the stock Yaris fuel pump and getting 11.5:1 at full boost.

zoidberg444 or the ghost is turbo Yoda, who’s mad he couldn’t help turbo the Yaris.

Back then people didn't even care if the car was a tired old hand me down economy car from a parent or relo. This was a great series! Thank You. For me it was, do most of it all at once. The real question, as entertainers, how much did that $13+k investment net the brand in profit/growth...
I don’t think I’ve ever loved something as much as this show
Spread cost when moding is one of those thing the average joe doesn't realize, when I told people I spent over 50k on my Supra I used to get "that a deposit on a house" but that is over 8 years not at 1 once lol.

Exactly. Especially if they had built up a decent B18 or a K24 for it, they could be pushing massive power safely. I mean look at Kyles civic on boosted boiz. I found this channel a couple of months ago and its fricken awesone, just got my first lot of merch so i hope it pays towards reviving yaris hilton
Guys I really liked project Yaris. When you all initially joked about the idea I thought it wasn't serious and you guys did it and the way it all worked. It felt like watching a movie. The funny video with the whip cream and then the Yaris dying after completing its fastest lap ever.... I almost cried and I like your all's other build quite a bit more but I guess since the Yaris turned from meme to machine it helped create the video I've been waiting for for years.
On the next few builds you do I would love to see something like this video here. I want to boost my car so freaking bad and I'm really close. Just need a few more $$ saved back. And after I boost it I'm going to make a my town and show you guys :DDDD Love MCM Love Marty and Moog and everyone whos helped out the chan. My favorite ppl in the down under :D
I drive a Honda Jazz/Fit and would love to see MCM rip one of those to pieces and give it some street cred lol
I did this Yaris build myself. Would love to see a Fit turbo'd!

@@hadez438 lol. Well, maybe a bit. Let's just say I'm trying to increase awareness about this awesome platform. Lol But, hell, I'd love to see a Fit turbo'd!
@@acbent11 Don't even care about turbo lol, just want to see them hack one apart and make it something special.
@@SolwayProductions Yeah, that would be cool, for sure.
"NO!" "REBUILD THE YARIS ENGINE!" "IT'S YOUR ASS IF YOU DON'T!" "That was an expensive joke!" ☹ "Bloody buggers!" "What a waste that was!"
I'm hopeful that they will. The platform is perfect for performance mods. I did the same build and mine works great.

But they car is ugly af it needs to be in a scrap heap
@@_Professor_Oak Ah, but isn't beauty in the eye of the beholder? LOL. Yeah, I've definitely heard them called ugly. Specifically mine on a number of occasions.
@@acbent11 Sometimes ugly can be beautifully disguised as a sleeper car. A modified stock appearance car with upgraded mechanicals.
@@richardbrowne1217 Bingo! Sleeper FTW! Haha, all the more satisfying when a small (and ugly) econobox smokes a 'faster' car. The surprise in their eyes is ....priceless!
I wonder how much the full video series earned for the boys....?

Hi guys. 😎Once again awesome build but this time closer to my heart.🥰 I always wanted to see a Toyota IQ on your channel but after I found out it was never available for sale on the Australian market I guess the chances were really small. So it was really special to watch the Yaris and get a few ideas for my Toyota. Thanks a bunch and I'm ready for the next one. From a Portuguese car guy living in the Brexit. 😉
Very close to my heart too!
