  • Reelfoot Lake State Park is located in the northwest corner of Tennessee and is noted for its fishing, boating and wildlife viewing. The 15,000 acre lake was created by a series of violent earthquakes in 1811-1812 that caused the Mississippi River to flow backwards for a short period of time, creating Reelfoot Lake.
The park’s ecosystem is unlike any other place in Tennessee. Reelfoot lake is a flooded forest. While Majestic Cypress trees rise above the water, below the surface are many submerged Cypress stumps. A variety of aquatic plants and flowers occupy the shoreline and saturate the shallow water. The lake harbors almost every kind of shore and wading bird as well as golden and American bald eagles.~~taken from Reelfoot Lake State Park homepage.

Thank you! We do not get to make it West Tennessee from Middle Tennessee often. It always amazes us at how different the West Tennessee beauty is :)

Becoming a fan of TN. Anytime you are in the mountains or near water life is good.

This was the first time we had walked the boardwalk. On our two previous visits it had been too flooded to walk. I was glad to see it open on this trip. Beautiful Tennessee!

Absolutely beautiful...we have a little saying to many of our visitors to Nova Scotia, Canada...if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes...we have very, very changeable weather to say the least...it does appear that all worked out for the best...take care and thanks for sharing...

Yes! Tennessee weather is the same :) Nova Scotia...oh, I can't wait to explore around Nova Scotia. A few years ago we met a fun couple who travelled in their RV, and I always ask explorers where their favorite destination has been. The wife said she fell in love with Nova Scotia. After a little research, it was added to my bucket list :) One of these days...

That was a crazy storm and came in so fast! Good thing you weren't out on the water then. Nice you got out on your kayaks to see the pretty sunset. Cypress trees are neat to see and the stumps protrude all around them. Cool to see the barge there on the levee. Great video, Scotty & Malinda.

Thank you, Sue! We love the West Tennessee area because of all of those Cypress trees. I loved floating all around them and seeing the Cypress beauty up close.

pontoon cruises are so much fun. easy and relaxing. would love to attend the eagle festival.

We have not attended the festival, but that time of year is our favorite time to visit. February means no leaves on the trees, so it is easy to spot a huge eagle nest. It is also nesting season, so the chances of seeing an eagle on the nest are great!

Love love love that boardwalk. I love those types of hikes lol. Wow that storm really had that water kicking up. The sunset on the water would have been totally worth waiting out the storm! I'm a dork. Saw you two side by side and thought it was some type of side by side kayak. I figured out it wasn't lol. That view behind you guys when you're sitting in the chairs.....wow! Perfect backdrop.

We LOVED the boardwalk. On our two previous visits it had been too flooded to walk. I was thrilled it was dry this time :) Hmmmm, a side by side kayak...you may have stumbled on a new idea! Lol Not a dork :)...that is how product ideas are born :D

Wonderful lake park 😀. Quite a wind storm you were caught in, but you captured some great sunset scenes. I love those big trees growing out of the water - almost a swampy vibe to the area. Really neat. Good info on the earthquake of 1811-1812. Thanks for sharing and have a great day 😀👍

Thanks for watching. You got it right! West Tennessee is very flat so swampy is exactly what it is. Those big Cypress trees are amazing to see :)
