Some girl at my community college claimed she was exposed to Ebola. I remember going to campus and everything being closed, and met up with my equally freaked out friends. Come to find out, that story was not truthful. Like at all. Lying about being potentially exposed to a fatal disease to cover for doing poorly in school is... a new level of fucked up.
@@FoxAkimbo Apparently she was close to flunking out for the whole semester. The end result was her getting expelled if remember correctly. How ridiculously stupid, she could have repeated those courses the next semester!

God, this just threw me back a solid decade back when I first found out about Ebola and Ebola-Chan. I was still in middle school, so my knowledge on both was limited & I thought it just died like any other meme. But oh god, a whole cult based on a random drawing? I can’t tell if I should be concerned or laughing until I fall to the floor. Edit: yeah definitely not laughing. I didn’t think it was gonna go so far as to spread racial tension and mistrust of medicine. That’s just sad.

Wait, wasn't this an Easter Egg in Yandere Simulator??? You know, that game made by the creepy guy with the attitude that makes the game famously never going to be finished
@@FoxAkimbo I knew I remembered her from somewhere! I think she stuck out in my mind because the dev got in a controversey when he upgraded her to "corona chan"....
@@Windwalker88 To be fair, I'd believe someone if they told me there was a cult of people worshiping a fictional character, it's happened before with a Harry Potter character. (At least, from what I can remember).

how does you calling her "ebola-tan" relate to being in a creepy hole? i'm not too familiar with the - adds, but i thought "-tan" was a similar adding to "-chan".
@@whizkeysh0t It has some pretty icky lolita vibes when paired with the art, as -tan is essentially a childish version of -chan. Saying any more than that goes into flagging territory. I am so glad I had the sense to jump away from those corners of the internet.
When you started talking about how superstitious people in Nigeria are in relation to the Ebola-chan meme I expected something more lighthearted and for you to just say that they'd reply to every picture they see to protect themselves, giving her thousands of replies per post.
The japanese name of the original post was "Ebola-Tan" which has the Tan honorific. The Tan honorific is a more childlike way of saying Chan - so it's not entirely accurate to say that 4chan is who gave her her name, rather it was the OP on the original post on pixie. That aside, great video!

I forgot Ebola-Chan existed, I honestly only remember her from that yandere simulator game because they had a little glitch or whatever to be her in the game, also fun to know more but this memory really just smacked me across the head. 💀
As a denzien of Pixiv... Ebola chan is tame compared to the stuff that is posted there. Let me just say. The shit there can be downright violent, sexual, or weird. (DON'T GO LOOKING ON THERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO LOSE YOUR SANITY)
I'm glad to avoid where she was implemented in *some forms*, seeing as it was pretty controversial to add her to some media. (Moreso than seen in the video) Furthermore this was really informative; as said media was my only exposure to Ebola Chan; either way it was really... unsettling in general to see a virus go viral in a new way.
I never saw this meme, but as soon as you pulled her up I said ebola-chan out loud like it was obvious. at this point rule like two of the internet is if it’s an anime girl representation of something, it’s automatically “(subject)-chan”
I wanna know how the artist who made the original art feels about all this, but considering the enormous impact, I’m not surprised they never came forward to take credit for the work
