Yes, to me mukbang is a completely different niche that sometimes might overlap a little bit with ASMR... But mukbang is a genre of its own, not a subcategory of ASMR
As someone who watches ASMR for sleep/calm down during panic attacks for more than a decade now, I knew about almost everything in this video... However I didn't knew about the animal "mukbangs" until now, this is so disgusting and it made my blood boil to know this exists... Thank you for showing awful stuff I didn't even knew it existed
I've seen animal asmr mukbangs with like a turtle eating a strawberry which I think is cute, but feeding pets to the point of them being sick is just evil
@@FoxAkimbo yes, I've only seen some pretty innocent ASMR of owners filming their dogs/cats drinking water or eating their regular, balanced intake of food (like eating dog food or even small portions of cooked meat and veggies), but (thankfully) I've never seen those forcing the poor animal to eat tons of food that will make them obese and having plenty of health issues even mid-term I have a dog myself, I carefully take care with his food intake bc he's a small Pomeranian and he can get overweight pretty quickly, so I need to monitor how much food I give to him, and this including veggies he like, such as carrots and brocoli... I just can't imagine giving so much food on purpose to a dog, a cat etc, it absolutely breaks my soul bc they are all so dependent of us for food and will never know that this exaggerated amount of food is basically harming them... And that the humans they trust doesn't have the best intentions for them 😔 I really hope some animal activists can remove those dogs, cats and other animals from those vile ppl making money off their suffering and give them a proper life with loving owners
I like "unintentional asmr" which is basically just people doing things quietly. Like I watch a lot of antique/electronic restoration videos, or wood carving, or people out in the middle of the forest building huts out of wood they chop. 🤷🏽♀️ I don't know if I get the ASMR response so much as I find it relaxing!
There are a bunch of videos of a guy making candy and other mini snacks using Japanese Kracie Popin Cookin kits. No music or voice overs. I started watching them to know how they're done, but the sounds in these vids were really relaxing, and I began watching them for fun. Seeing cute little treats being carefully crafted, along with the sounds that came from the process were so calming.
I HATE the social stigma around asmr. My social life would be utterly ruined if any of my friends, family, or coworkers knew I watched it. I don't even think I get that tingling thing, at least not how it's described, I just really find it relaxing, and it helps me sleep. I just like the calmness that comes from watching something like a doctor appointment, or a massage or something, or even a lecture.
fr i just wanna relax. the way people talk about it makes me feel embarrassed to be a fan even though nobody would know unless i told them and it genuinely helps me.
exactly! whenever i come back from school i just listen to asmr, it calms me down 😅 it seems that i cannot study without listening to asmr. I always listen to writing noises or inaudible whispers while i study because it blocks background noises and i can finally concentrate on my work. Most people i know hate asmr, they find it cringe. Sometimes i do watch mukbang because the food looks good 😋
Everybody deserves company, attention and closeness. Not everyone gets it in their daily life. People are very lonely beings, Im sure your friends could relate to you even a bit if they found out
If your social life would be ruined by people knowing you like ASMR, surround yourself with less judgmental people. Sounds like an easy fix to me. Don’t complain about what you have control over.
Yeah, it’s kind of sad in a way that people who do the more rough side of the genre are generally more kind than those who do the outwardly wholesome stuff.
@@Goku_Black1.1 absolutely. The 18+ subreddit does allow rougher subject matter, but they’re very strict about tagging posts correctly so listeners know exactly what to expect. If an audio has any implied or even straight up non-con, it MUST have a tag for it. Same with any other dark 18+ subject you can think of. I’ve commented on some of the posts on there and the users generally are very respectful and know their boundaries. Some people have even used it to cope with sexual trauma in a positive way. They also have a no tolerance policy regarding anyone under 18 being on there. Sorry for the ramble, but basically you’re absolutely right. 😅
If you don’t mind me asking what is the subreddit called? I’m always curious about this kind of stuff and having a safe space to look into it would be nice.
im glad this video is respectful towards the genre and people who listen to it in general, as i find alot of people who cover the subject don't tend to be as kind!
I thought it was important when making the video to explain right at the start that this video isn't coming from a place of malice, asmr is weird to some but actually quite important to others. Every niche has its problems and controversies, which are fun to talk about, but they will also have their positive aspects
for me, things like tapping, ticking, certain kinds of scratching etc can be pretty calming (not sure if it's an ASMR response or not, it's just nice), but anything to do with the mouth (so whispering or especially eating) puts all my bones in attack mode. like, it actively increases my anxiety.
I'm exactly the same. I literally cannot listen to eating sounds, I actually get legitimately upset and anxious when I hear them. But I love clicking and tapping sounds, like keyboard ASMR and they calm me down pretty effectively.
The fact people either hate or love ASMR is so interesting, I'm autistic (which makes me very sensitive to sounds) and have anxiety, and I hate ASMRs, literally can't stand them, let alone mukbangs, but some of my friends that are autistic and have anxiety actually really enjoy ASMRs and mukbangs I just think it's interesting how people have different opinions on that stuff Edit: OKAY I NEVER GOT SO MANY LIKES AND REPLIES ON A COMMENT BEFORE FSDKBKFSDDFS I'm glad everyone replying are sharing their experiences and aren't mean or something, I like hearing about how different we all are despite having the same/simmilar mental condition(s) :]
I think it’s weird that people that hate ASMR usually act like it’s some “quirky” personality trait, and not like… the dominant opinion. Lol more often than not people think it’s creepy or weird.
Not a Fan of Asmr in general but I have a playlist of those asmr videos where women tell you how proud they are and that you are doing great been clean for half a year now 🙏
I know there has also been some drama between ASMR UA-camrs, including bullying and doxxing private content to humiliate the creator. I know there are much worse communities with drama but it’s sad that the claim is to help people relax and sleep, but a few of them still choose to act like high school bullies
I’ve also noticed that. I don’t know if you’re talking about audio asmr tubers or just regular asmr ones but the ones on the audio side of things have even worse drama problems. It’s pretty ironic.
In my experience, that gets even more common when you start to look into the overlap between indie vtubers and ASMR creators. It’s why I left the vtuber community as a whole.
Aside from the dark underbelly, there's also a lot of ASMR channel drama lol. I remember there was one woman who'd do a lot of roleplays themed around PTA moms, and another ASMR creator named Jim would sometimes collab with her as the husband of one of the fan-favorite characters from that series. Yeah so it turns out they were having an affair. It still sticks with me that they had the audacity to do a roleplay as a cutesy married couple while they were also cheating on their partners IRL. I'm sure there's been other dramas like it but that's the main one I remember since I actually watched her channel (up until she deleted it for obvious reasons). Jim's channel is still up and running; for some reason he didn't catch nearly as much heat as she did.
I remeber those videos! I found them funny at first, then when I tried to go for them later didn’t see them. Dang, I hope her family could recover from that betrayal
I remember there was an asmrtist named "ghettoASMR" and he pretty much got exposed for being a toxic person who would scream and try to guilt trip his viewers to donate more money on his live streams. I think he also got exposed for being a creep and maybe even a p3d0 although I don't remember. Jojo asmr made like 3 videos on the matter.
@@tessam7068 In fact ghetto asmr still isn't over it. He's still making videos up to this day about how "Jojo is stalking and harassing him and spreading lies about him" His most recent vid on the matter was 4 days ago Jojo first talked about him 2 years ago lmao
The thing about mukbangs and eating disorders is odd because that's p much how I used to make myself eat at the worst of my eating disorder. I used to not eat unless I had something to compare with someone. I had tonknow I was eating less. It was a control thing. Since they ate such insane amounts no matter what I ate it always was less. Eventually I went from eating 1 tiny ass shitty meal to 1 full meal to 2 to 3 and now I don't watch them. Didn't know I was the opposite.
Woah, same! Mukbang helped me to finish my big full meal, when I used to eat less (I ate 1 small meal per day). Now I can eat full meal or 2-3 meals per day.
@ㅁ doing alot better! I have my days but my partner helps me through it. I'm still working on getting my weight up but the fact that I am eating more then once is a huge improvement then what I was lol
@@VylaGZ i saw those too😭, i don't wanna kink shame but i saw gianteses softcore roleplay like__it's not HURTING anyone but it still disturbing to me idk
I literally never thought about sexualising it, it was just a story to me or something to help me go away to sleep i only listen to the story telling ones i like the campfire story effect, i don’t get the tingles too so that is the only asmr i’ve ever listened to. Roleplay and horror are the two main ones mainly horror.
can i recommend asmattr asmr? (if you don't already watch his videos of course) he does videos reading creepypastas and scp entries and they're really relaxing :)
ASMR has always given me the opposite feelings. Whatever people feel, it just makes me feel uncomfortable, weird, or out of place in some way. Some are also just gross.
i think a part of the reason i personally find ASMR so uncomfortable is because i hate the sound people make when they eat and i hate how close and personal it is, it's way too intimate
I listen to inaudible/mumbling asmr because the talking makes me think alot instead of blanking out. Plus to me it feels sort of gentle, like hearing someone talking to themselves as they work on art or a craft. (I personally do that idk if others do but it's very relaxing)
I never got the hype! I have tried to listen to all sorts of asmr videos but never got that tingle that everyone went on about. I wish I knew, just to understand it :x Another awesome video, Fox :D Love your stuff
best way i can describe tingles are that pins and needles feeling you get when your arm or leg fall asleep if it wasnt unpleasant and fainter. i really just listen to asmr to get my mind off things and to fall asleep
I get the tingles, but the real reason I watch ASMR is because it makes me sleepy lolol my insomnia keeps me up but ASMR keeps me in bed at least. I may not be asleep yet but I’m getting closer!
ASMR actually makes me more anxious. Like someone's breathing down my neck or just standing way too close. I've only ever heard it as jokes from other UA-camrs or from a honey ad that used to play all the time, but it always made me really uncomfortable.
Different sounds work for different people and you might be the type to not enjoy breathing sounds BUT its also the case that when people make satire asmr or do asmr as a joke, they dont know what they are doing and therefor might be doing it the wrong way. As an example breathing sounds in particular can sound bad or good depending on the skill and technique of who is doing it, so I would recommend not giving up on it forever and trying out more veteran professional asmrtists doing the same trigger before being sure that sound isnt for you.
the only type of asmr i can stand are some channels that do eating asmr. I just do it to see the food and end up getting hungry watching it and i don't even sleep to them
Actual asmr made by a creator who is passionate about it is so different than someone getting a bunch of rainbow candy and attacking it like a 3 year old
ASMR is one of the only things that can truly help me calm down as an autistic person who struggles with horrible anxiety and hyposensitivity. I watch it pretty much daily, and it really helps me personally.
Finding ASMR entirely by accident has been a Godsend. There are so many different creators and content. There’s something for everybody, and one man’s meat is another man’s poison. I can’t stand mouth sounds, clicking, tapping etc, but I do like roleplays, especially historical ones. I love thunderstorms and the sound of the ocean. Carriages and trains. I don’t enjoy music, although the first channel I found, which I loved, and then led me into the whole world of ASMR was old time music in different settings. I’m a bad sleeper I find that I sleep longer and better with ASMR in the background.
As someone who gets overstimulated very easily, ASMR helps calm me down and settles my anxiety 😅 I love laying in my dark room and listening to it everyday for at least 30 minutes. Without it, I would definitely have daily breakdowns 💀
I listen to ASMR to sleep literally EVERY night cause I've realized they help me sleep (I'm a night owl with a bit of insomnia who has to wake up early in the morning, so falling asleep has always been a huge issue for me). At first I used to do it cause of the tingles, I got them a lot and they felt so good they relaxed me enough to make me sleepy, or so I thought... Maybe because of getting accustomed to it I stopped feeling tingles, but I continued to listen to ASMR anyway simply cause it was routine at that point, and that's when I found out the real reason why those audios help me sleep, they: 1) Cover any possibly annoying noise, be it from the other people I live with or things out of my control And 2) Give me something SIMPLE to focus on and think about. I'm one of those people who can't meditate or "keep their mind blank", ok? Whenever I'm in a calm/boring situation my mind begins spiraling, which ofc prevents me from sleeping, but when I'm listening to these random quiet sounds the only thing I think of is what object could be causing them, so I instead imagine (for example) a brush going back and forward while following the sounds in the video. It's pretty much like counting sheep for me, something simple and repetitive that keeps your mind busy while not requiring enough mental effort that it will keep you awake
I sometimes watch mukbang, and the main reason why I watch it is envy ngl. Like "I wish I could have the type of food they have" or "man, I wish I had that money they spent on that food" It also helps with hunger, as if I already ate and want to eat more but also dont want to, I watch (I know it sounds counter productive, but it works for me)

I’m somebody who experiences asmr and I don’t get s€xual pleasure from it. I find it calms my anxiety and helps me not feel alone, like in videos where someone is pretending to scratch my head or do my makeup. It’s too bad that there are creeps and weirdos that try to make it sexual and such.
I don't think the people who get a sort of sexual gratification are "creeps and weirdos" like stated in the video it's an inherently intimate type of media so ending up getting some kind of erotic sensation while partaking isn't dumbfounded. Just because you experience something differently doesn't mean you should mock those who aren't the same as you.
I have misophonia, so ASMR makes me incredibly irrationally angry when I hear it. It's a whole... thing. I don't blame ASMR channels for my problems, never have, I just don't watch their stuff. Misophonia isn't super uncommon, so I wonder if a lot of people who get upset about ASMR just have misophonia and don't know it.
As a asmr person that cant sleep without listening to asmr and as a women myself makes me sad that asmrtist that are women and that just want to do their videos without an sexual intention get hate regardless, and sometimes I feel bad abt myself bc my favorite triggers are mouth sounds(but the exaggerated ones are just too much),thank you for making this video❤️
I'm neurotic & anxious and listening to asmr triggers anything from discomfort to distress 😅 though I do have auditory processing disorder which could be why. I experience & enjoy "frisson" (tingles & goosebumps) from some music though and have some vocal & auditory stims, so I understand that brain-massaging effect it has and why people enjoy it.
as a female asmr watcher, i much prefer watching other women. listening to men whisper to me is somewhat creepy to me, can't really explain it. I've asked other female friends of mine if they feel the same and they've agreed. just found it interesting
@@Luv_Doughza Not online, but that's pretty much it. I was just saying this to say that it could be another reason woman ASMR creators are more popular
I’m someone who mainly listens to asmr roleplays. As someone with certain more intimate interests and who has a lot of trauma I still need to work through, I like listening to a lot of the darker asmr roleplays because of the thrill I get from them. However, there are some days where I just need to relax, and usually, my interest steers more pampering and personal attention - eg, spa treatment roleplays or “doing your make-up” roleplays. Perhaps it’s a coping mechanism, but my want to suffer to an extent in a purely fictional sense - which is something I need to stress because this isn’t something I’m ever okay with outside of the fictional world - and my wish to be pampered and spoiled with positive words of affirmation and physical attention tend to switch back and forth depending on my mood, and I relieve different things from them that generally help me sleep at night. As a little side note, I haven’t found any male asmrtists that do the more soft, gentle, personal attention, “spa day” type of roleplays, so for those videos, I usually listen to women. I predominantly listen to male asmrtists for the darker roleplay videos. So feel free to ask if you want any recommendations.
@@kasperfg What are your thoughts on yandere roleplays. They’re what I’ve been listening to most predominantly as of late. Also, do you want to feel actual fear or just get a thrill from the roleplay? As an aside, what are your thoughts on listening to a yandere roleplay that has this big, emotional story with several different voice actors/asmrtists involved? Is that something that would interest you or do you just want to hear as some lunatic makes you suffer?
I always listen to asmr nightly before bed it helps relax and calm me down. Tapping and ear cupping are perticulerly effective on me with gentle whispers. Some louder sounds however cause me anxiety and mukbangs cause me to tense up so I don't listen to them.
The part about ASMR and anxious people being linked surprised me. I have diagnosed GAD and for me, I can't do ASMR it gives me the heebie jeebies and triggers a sense of fight or flight in me
I can’t stand asmr involving people talking, whispering or chewing, generally anything involving the face thanks to my severe misophonia. I have scored extremely high on neuroticism and doctors are pretty sure I’m autistic. I find I don’t experience the tingle asmr response, rather I relax. I like to watch videos that involve disassembling, repairing and reassembling stuff like electronics and mechanical objects. The visual stimulation is a big part of this.
I discovered ASMR about a decade age, I was looking to try learning another language while I slept / fighting insomnia. At the time it blew my mind, being a bit of introvert and lacking in relationships it filled a void in my life I simply could find nowhere else. Whisper Cristal was my introduction to this novel art form, I remember the rumors and speculations I found I went looking in the forums answers when she dropped off, I like to thinks she's still out there somewhere living her best. Heather Feather was my favorite for a long time, sometimes I'll still check her channel out . These days I do find myself still regularly throwing on a barber or doctor roll play, or maybe an affirmation video even. I am impressed by the work of some these artists, the amount of effort, scripting, and details in Atmosphere puts into her videos still gets me. my favorites these days would have to be Glow, Kim, and Lizi. I've even thought about giving it a try myself, until I saw someone had already gotten to the name first, Shiver Me Tingles, she's pretty good at it though, so I'm happy. I've never considered mukbangs to be ASMR, as far as sound its very monotonous and just the "sucking on the microphone" affect, visually its just masochistic, and WTF! I'm glad I've never heard of Ssoyoung. Big Nope On Her! And Big Nope On Animal Cruelty!
I actually make gymchalk crushing asmr. I love it you can get so creative with it, and the community of ladies and gentlemen are very sweet. The only issue we face are content thieves. All the powders and textures especially the colors just make my mouth water lmao and if the crush is super good it puts me to sleep. Try it out, no one talks, make weird eating noises, dress lewd, or make sounds that are mostly seen as annoying. Just relaxing, colorful or earthy tone crushes. ❤
one thing i will say about mukbangs and eating disorders, as someone who suffers from an ED, me and a lot of people who have EDs watch mukbang videos to reduce hunger (usually for fasting or starving)
The thing I love about asmr is I get excited to go to bed, just to lay down and listen to a calming asmr video. Because In the past I used to have sleeping issues so it helps a lot. Thanks for this video it was interesting learning the history about asmr!
I actually am listening to ASMR every night to sleep more comfortably. I had a lot of sleep issues and I think one of the reasons why they stopped is me watching ASMR and getting a little more adapted to living with my eternal anxiety. Though I never liked any ASMR with the voice using. For some time I've watched horses hoof cleaning, but now I mostly watch crunchy soap ASMR. And well, yeah, that's all I have to say, I'm not a fan of changing what I watch before sleep very often
I listen to 'bedtime stories for everyone' kind of podcasts but never really connected them with ASMR. ASMR as in random noises just sounds weird to me.
I never counted mukbangs as ASMR, because asmr is relaxing, calm, and peaceful, most mouth sounds such as biting, chewing, and swallowing I find absolutely disgusting to the point of vomit inducing. is asmr weird, yeah a lot of it is I'm willing to admit that, but I also can't deny how fast it puts me to sleep, it's also allowed me to practice my writing for scripts (some asmrartist allow fan scripts for asmr roleplays) yes it's kinda cringe but I still enjoy it
ASMR is any sound that gives you "good tingles," it doesn't have to be whispers. Hair brushing, people writing on paper or turning pages of a book, the distant sound of someone puttering around in the kitchen, nail filing, painting, etc. There is a wealth of 18+ audios out there that are very explicit. Some people might like whispers in their ears, some of us like the low growl of a turned-on man. And there's stuff involving snuff, vore, a lot of sex & violence combos in general. And a big audience for it, but most of it isn't on YT. A growing number of these kind of content creators are also using pornhub to publish because so many other platforms are cracking down on them. Your "ex-girlfriend and future wife"?
@@unclekath3800 Some of us women like that, yes. Sounds like you could learn a few things from those guys. Women enjoy fantasy beyond following unicorns when we're little. That's why romance is actually the best selling book genre.
I get ASMR from awesome music. Like, not relaxing music, but awesome music I really love gives me a tingly feeling in my scalp. The calming stuff never gave me that tingly feeling.
Oh wow, I get that feeling too. Most of my favorite songs and music tracks give me that tingly feeling, and some are even.. euphoric. They put me in a trance of some kind, and I love it.
Mukbang is something I really take issue with tbh. As someone who has had eating disorders for the last 20 years (anorexia then bulimia to now binge eating disorder with arfid) I think it's incredibly harmful to make disordered eating fashionable and profitable. The best example of the reality of those eating habits is sadly Nick, as he went from being slim with bulimia and probable arfid to rapidly gaining large amounts of weight when he stopped purging and restricting (his EDs changed to now having BED). Other mukbangers also have disordered eating, as to keep their low weights while bingeing on camera they restrict their intake outside of filming, similar to the restrict-binge cycle of binge eating disorder. So many people have unhealthy & disordered thinking patterns around food & weight that this content is unhealthy not only for the creators but for everyone exposed to it too, because so few have the healthy mindset needed to not be affected by it.
It’s quite unfortunate and sad to see that this is what mukbang has come to. It used to just be people eating regular sized meals and the videos were meant to mimic having a companion while eating, to help people feel less lonely. But now people are so focused on getting views that they’re making it way more extreme. I hope you’re able to have a good recovery too🥰
Lol I enjoy those role play ASMR videos like "rude cashier insults your grocery choices" and "bad hairstylist ruins your hair while belittling you". I also like the Japanese and Korean bakery prep ASMR videos.
i did watch mukbangs when i had an eating disorder but for different reasons than most others doing the same thing i think. i have mesophonia so it was more like hearing the chewing for me made me feel sick. i know it also triggers people with bulimia and binge eating disorder a lot just by the nature of the content. i wouldn’t say it’s a bad thing though overall cause a lot of people find it comforting.
The thing that sucks is its not just fans that sexualize ASMR, it's ASMRTISTS too. I can't find a normal video without finding dozens of videos with women in 'questionable' positions in the thumbnails. I also hate the new genre of those "beauty extraction" videos. They're so disgusting and I don't understand how anyone could like those. I've seen thumbnails of these animated subjects with half their face gone, maggots in their neck, huge pimples, and earlobes destroyed.
If you ever do another one of these videos again GhettoAsmr is an absolutely insane and depraved asmrtist and I would recommend looking into his story and beef with Jojo asmr
I've seen quite a few comments here saying they hate ASMR, but in a way that make it seem like there is just one way of doing ASMR. The genre is huge with so many different concepts and content creators, like what is it they hate exactly? I think the best ASMRtists are those who also put a lot of effort into the "visual ASMR" in their videos, you can actually enjoy it even without the sound if you don't want to listen to anything, just enjoy the artistry
So I watch ASMR and find it incredibly helpful. I have chronic pain. One day a teacher at my school recommended it for me and it really helped me relax when I'm struggling with my condition.
Great video, I'm a nerd gal and I'm into roleplay asmr, regular asmr, not so much. I do enjoy the book of the damned series, and can't wait to see what the next one will be about.
I have sensory issues and insomnia since I was born, ASMR has helped me a lot over the years. Nowadays tho, I only listen to specific videos by specific creators cause the genre is filled with weird ass videos. I wish more creators sticked to old school asmr.
Like 2 years back, when I was having a panic attack, watching asmr calmed me down but only when I was watching lol. Other times tho, it worked pretty well to calm me down overall.
ASMR is genuinely beneficial, most ASMR is made to help people with anxiety, depression, PTSD, inability to relax, and inability to sleep, etc. Please don't stigmatize it because of some stupid stereotypes or one off incidents that have nothing to do with the community as a whole. Everybody likes different triggers and dislikes different triggers, it's not that big of a deal, it's a huge community with lots of different people. Some ASMR can be sexual in nature, and some won't be. ASMR is for COMFORT. Some people feel 18+ ASMR is comforting and helps them because of the roleplay aspect of it. Let people live their lives and do what they want to cope with their own issues. Yeah there are gross people out there who do gross things but that's an extreme minority in this community, get over it. If you can't handle it, don't watch it. But don't stigmatize other people and call them gross for liking something you don't like, it shows how ignorant and bigoted you are.
I only listen to one or two ASMR. Typing, and soap cutting! I’m autistic and very very anxious, generally easily freaked out when silence is present. Whispering, tapping, etc. whatever is not for me, makes me feel sick, but I love ASMR. So I suppose I’m part of the ASMR neuroticism group. I just like the sound of typing to give me soothing tingles and then send me to sleep.
I absolutely despise the sound of clacking, tapping or anything that sounds intentional, i prefer those that are basically just them doing everyday things etc brewing coffee at home, or cleaning kind of stuff
Big fan of ASMR, particularly men speaking German or Russian. I don’t want to kink shame, but mukbang makes me feel so icky. Even the name gives me bad tingles
When you started talking about animal asmr I thought you were gonna talk about that one kitten eating 2 cocktail sausages for like 4 minutes but I have been horrifically mistaken 😟
As someone who’s interested in both ASMR & ASMRotica, I honestly had little idea on a “dark side” to ASMR. But god dammit those last two stories really are infuriating. Like why would you torture an animal while trying to eat it for… good noises I guess? Can you even describe Mukbang or that type of Mukbang as anything pleasant; I don’t think so.
The only pet-related ASMR videos I watch are the ones by bear soong nyoong. You know why? Because they PAMPER their cats. It's korean spa roleplay with extremely relaxed kittens and cats. Its SO CUTE!
It makes me sad that mukbangs are like this now... they used to be videos of someone talking about their day and eating to help people feel less lonely
I have major anxiety and ASMR just makes the anxiety worse tbh. If it helps you with your anxiety, that's amazing! It's just not for me, scandals aside.
If you need some wholesome pet asmr, there is this one video of a kitty cat eating a sausage, and he is very happy. It is a normal sized sausage, he is just a small kitty. It’s one of my favorite videos so I hope you can enjoy it too
@@FoxAkimbo I am a longtime avid ASMR consumer, I've seen it all. Could be an algorithm thing, I just saw your video today. Could also be the title scaring people from watching it. I think your video was pretty fair but I was worried from the title that it would just be the usual asmr hate from your average ignorant internet person, and I was afraid to start watching it.
I was very confused when u said asmr was banned in China, I’m a Chinese person who is currently living in China and there are lots of videos about asmr on douyin(chinese tiktok) and bilibili, some of the asmr content are direct reuploads from UA-cam and some are made by Chinese asmrtists who are still uploading videos on these platforms
A friend of mine Muga Matsui does some pretty good ASMR work. I definitely recommend her. Especially her hairdresser scenario. I personally like ASMR that involves people opening up booster packs of stuff from Pokémon and yugioh (the crinkly noises sounds pretty nice). But finding one that isn’t weirdly sexual is actually pretty hard.
I'm probably mixed as I am not interested in vocal ASMR at all. But in the case of mechanical things, very much so. Like for example I play a lot of Retro FPS games and currently Prodeus has just such fantastic sound design overall but the reloading and some of the shooting sound effects are just fantastic. Such as the Mammoth, a stupidly powerful revolver weapon, as when you reload the casing fly out of the chamber with this strange spring-y scraping sound and is followed up by a very meaty, in the term of giblets, slideback as the gun is returned to it's firing position. So yeah that's my little tangent here (Also Prodeus is pretty cool, very much recommend!)
I have watched ASMR for over a decade now and it helps me sleep. I have to get up early for work and sometimes I get insomnia or anxious that I’m not going to get enough sleep and ASMR is the only thing that can help me sleep. I don’t get aroused by it and my fav videos to watch are makeup/hair/spa and personal attention.
ASMR doesn't work for me. It actually does the opposite; it's like I can hear all the saliva laden clicks and plosive whispers and uuugh, gross it just sounds...wet. Like I really need to step back out of spitting distance from whoever is talking to me. 😝 That being said, right before I fall asleep I'll pop on a video or playlist about space. I can focus on that, as I find the topic interesting. The narrator needs to speak clearly, at a slower pace, with some light soundscape in the background; I'll usually be dead asleep with 5 to 10 minutes. It's like clockwork.
You can try "asmr cooking" like "Hidamari cooking", "Cooking tree", etc. You don't hear whispers or anything creepy to hear. You can feel like you are there, baking some cake and stuffs. It's really relaxing.
The only reason I enjoy ASMR is because I love the feeling of having someone next to you in bed telling you that they love you even if its just playing pretend, in the end I know I wont have anything like that but at the very least I can enjoy the feeling, even if its just in my mind.
I watch ASMR very often and his whispering was not that bad it sounded pretty good. I've always thought of mukbangs as a whole different category I find eating noises kind of gross but ASMR is very relaxing to me and I like getting tingles. Also, I realized that there is a possibility I have Neuroticism I do experience the symptoms. That study is very interesting. One story you didn't mention was MemeCow. For some reason, when searching for ASMR, some people have been finding a channel called MemeCow but it's not ASMR, it's horrendous animal abuse and I have no clue how it hasn't been taken down. Also, you showed one of my favorite ASMRists, Gibi ASMR. She was the first one I found and she does great videos :) and so does FoxAkimbo! Edit: I also watch ASMR Glow, her live streams are hilarious even if she's whispering I love it. I think the werewolf boyfriend asmrs and anime boy asmr has made it have a weird reputation, the ASMR I watch is not that
The asmr community is… a mixed bag that I am NOT interested in sticking my hand in. I myself can’t stand mukbangs or a lot of the sounds (sensory issues) but for some reason the roleplays help me sleep. I genuinely… drumroll please… watch them for the plot. Let me explain. Podcasts used to be my go-to (being alone with my thoughts is bad, and even background noise can’t drown them out, In need actual voices, substance, words), but they would keep me awake a lot of the time because I would get too invested. Then I discovered asmr roleplays, like storybooks where I’m the main character. People speaking enough to keep my thoughts from drifting to bad places, but soft and repetitive enough to let me sleep. I make sure to stay away from boyfriend/girlfriend audios (those make me uncomfortable for some reason), and mostly listen to first aid ones, rescue ones, and/or ones set in fantasy/dystopian/apocalyptic worlds. It really helps, but looking for them is always a horrifying ordeal of scrolling past UA-cam thumbnails of “yandere catgirl licks your ear” or “mafia alpha boyfriend pins you down, br**ds you”. Anyone else??? Please tell me I’m not alone? I feel like I’m living stuck in the middle of a thinly veiled internet war.
I had never considered mukbangs a part of ASMR. The noises drive me nuts.
Yes, to me mukbang is a completely different niche that sometimes might overlap a little bit with ASMR... But mukbang is a genre of its own, not a subcategory of ASMR
Bro it's so gross
Completely agreed.
I hate it.
I remember when they started doing
Mukbangs it was a sub genre of ASMR tho I feel it has definitely evolved into its own thing
@@FoxAkimbo yes, I've only seen some pretty innocent ASMR of owners filming their dogs/cats drinking water or eating their regular, balanced intake of food (like eating dog food or even small portions of cooked meat and veggies), but (thankfully) I've never seen those forcing the poor animal to eat tons of food that will make them obese and having plenty of health issues even mid-term
I have a dog myself, I carefully take care with his food intake bc he's a small Pomeranian and he can get overweight pretty quickly, so I need to monitor how much food I give to him, and this including veggies he like, such as carrots and brocoli... I just can't imagine giving so much food on purpose to a dog, a cat etc, it absolutely breaks my soul bc they are all so dependent of us for food and will never know that this exaggerated amount of food is basically harming them... And that the humans they trust doesn't have the best intentions for them 😔
I really hope some animal activists can remove those dogs, cats and other animals from those vile ppl making money off their suffering and give them a proper life with loving owners
@@FoxAkimbo i love that one! Its so cute :)
same its so cruel, disgusting and vile. it makes me soo angry when dogs have been abandoned, abused and i guess overfed
oh god i went to comments before watching the video and let me tell you "animal mukbangs" sounded a lot worse in my mind, still animal abuse though
I think I like a similar category, like unboxing videos from the relaxing end as well as custom keyboard sound test videos
Agreed. I first got the ASMR feeling from watching Bob Ross back in the day, and had long long wondered if I was the only one who felt like that.
@@Account_Not_Applicable japanesestuffchannel! i love that haha
Tarot card flipping videos are the best for unintentional ASMR. I’m not even a believer, I just love the sound
I HATE the social stigma around asmr. My social life would be utterly ruined if any of my friends, family, or coworkers knew I watched it. I don't even think I get that tingling thing, at least not how it's described, I just really find it relaxing, and it helps me sleep. I just like the calmness that comes from watching something like a doctor appointment, or a massage or something, or even a lecture.
fr i just wanna relax. the way people talk about it makes me feel embarrassed to be a fan even though nobody would know unless i told them and it genuinely helps me.
not to mention the asmr community (with some exceptions like in this video) are some of the kindest seeming people on the internet
exactly! whenever i come back from school i just listen to asmr, it calms me down 😅 it seems that i cannot study without listening to asmr.
There’s literally a subreddit dedicated to 18+ ASMR and voice acting, and it’s a shockingly wholesome community.
I’m always curious about this kind of stuff and having a safe space to look into it would be nice.

for me, things like tapping, ticking, certain kinds of scratching etc can be pretty calming (not sure if it's an ASMR response or not, it's just nice), but anything to do with the mouth (so whispering or especially eating) puts all my bones in attack mode. like, it actively increases my anxiety.
It is like tokyoasmr they have messages or scratching sounds. Most videos don't have talking.
That's how I feel about ASMR too
I'm exactly the same. I literally cannot listen to eating sounds, I actually get legitimately upset and anxious when I hear them. But I love clicking and tapping sounds, like keyboard ASMR and they calm me down pretty effectively.
Idk, i have autism and they actually calm me down
Same haha
The fact people either hate or love ASMR is so interesting, I'm autistic (which makes me very sensitive to sounds) and have anxiety, and I hate ASMRs, literally can't stand them, let alone mukbangs, but some of my friends that are autistic and have anxiety actually really enjoy ASMRs and mukbangs
I just think it's interesting how people have different opinions on that stuff

I know there has also been some drama between ASMR UA-camrs, including bullying and doxxing private content to humiliate the creator. I know there are much worse communities with drama but it’s sad that the claim is to help people relax and sleep, but a few of them still choose to act like high school bullies
I’ve also noticed that. I don’t know if you’re talking about audio asmr tubers or just regular asmr ones but the ones on the audio side of things have even worse drama problems. It’s pretty ironic.
@@Goku_Black1.1 bc you can't see their faces, it's like Twitter for ASMR

I’ve heard about this before, like that this was one of the reasons why people liked mukbangs, it’s good that it helped you :)
Woah, same! Mukbang helped me to finish my big full meal, when I used to eat less (I ate 1 small meal per day). Now I can eat full meal or 2-3 meals per day.
That's great! It had the opposite effect on me, I watched it to kill my appetite. Eating sounds are so gross to me. I hope you're doing better

ASMR has always given me the opposite feelings. Whatever people feel, it just makes me feel uncomfortable, weird, or out of place in some way. Some are also just gross.
100% agree. Makes me feel super uncomfortable and relaxing music is far better for sleep anyway
It's that lip-smacking that does it for me, it just makes me cringe
I experience ASMR but am not a big fan, especially mukbang ASMR, i think it's just gross
*misophonia fist-bump*
i think a part of the reason i personally find ASMR so uncomfortable is because i hate the sound people make when they eat and i hate how close and personal it is, it's way too intimate
I listen to inaudible/mumbling asmr because the talking makes me think alot instead of blanking out. Plus to me it feels sort of gentle, like hearing someone talking to themselves as they work on art or a craft. (I personally do that idk if others do but it's very relaxing)
When I was in HS I used to listen to ASMR storytelling and it definitely helped calm me down after a hard school day.
I do that currently
I never got the hype! I have tried to listen to all sorts of asmr videos but never got that tingle that everyone went on about. I wish I knew, just to understand it :x Another awesome video, Fox :D Love your stuff
Thanks for watching :D
best way i can describe tingles are that pins and needles feeling you get when your arm or leg fall asleep if it wasnt unpleasant and fainter. i really just listen to asmr to get my mind off things and to fall asleep
Me neither. Ironically I have for music though lol. I use ASMR for background noise because i like it, I just don't understand the hype
It’s a cool feeling, kinda like tiny little explosions in your brain (for me). It’s more bodily for other people though which is interesting.
I use no talking ones. If you specify no talking you can stick to nice sounds with no mouth noises or whispers.
@@shadow_shine3578 same
Different sounds work for different people and you might be the type to not enjoy breathing sounds BUT its also the case that when people make satire asmr or do asmr as a joke, they dont know what they are doing and therefor might be doing it the wrong way.
I just do it to see the food and end up getting hungry watching it and i don't even sleep to them
Why do you watch it then?
Wait...mukbangs are a completely separate genre, no? I've watched ASMR for at least a decade and have never heard anyone compare the two...
Actual asmr made by a creator who is passionate about it is so different than someone getting a bunch of rainbow candy and attacking it like a 3 year old
I actually like the eating way more than other types of ASMR, the sounds are awesome😃. I also enjoy crunchy slime asmr videos as well🥰
ASMR is one of the only things that can truly help me calm down as an autistic person who struggles with horrible anxiety and hyposensitivity.
Maybe because of getting accustomed to it I stopped feeling tingles, but I continued to listen to ASMR anyway simply cause it was routine at that point, and that's when I found out the real reason why those audios help me sleep, they:
1) Cover any possibly annoying noise, be it from the other people I live with or things out of my control
And 2) Give me something SIMPLE to focus on and think about.
Like "I wish I could have the type of food they have" or "man, I wish I had that money they spent on that food"
It also helps with hunger, as if I already ate and want to eat more but also dont want to, I watch (I know it sounds counter productive, but it works for me)
I like how most of the top comments are from people that absolutely hate ASMR.

Yeah same
I don't think the people who get a sort of sexual gratification are "creeps and weirdos" like stated in the video it's an inherently intimate type of media so ending up getting some kind of erotic sensation while partaking isn't dumbfounded. Just because you experience something differently doesn't mean you should mock those who aren't the same as you.

I never counted mukbangs as ASMR, because asmr is relaxing, calm, and peaceful, most mouth sounds such as biting, chewing, and swallowing I find absolutely disgusting to the point of vomit inducing. is asmr weird, yeah a lot of it is I'm willing to admit that, but I also can't deny how fast it puts me to sleep, it's also allowed me to practice my writing for scripts (some asmrartist allow fan scripts for asmr roleplays) yes it's kinda cringe but I still enjoy it
hopeful asmr is probably the best asmrtist in my opinion because she makes it sound so relaxing
"the low growl of a turned-on man" bro what 💀💀
@@unclekath3800 Some of us women like that, yes. Sounds like you could learn a few things from those guys. Women enjoy fantasy beyond following unicorns when we're little. That's why romance is actually the best selling book genre.
@@unclekath3800 Womens enjoy fantacy roleplay
I get ASMR from awesome music. Like, not relaxing music, but awesome music I really love gives me a tingly feeling in my scalp. The calming stuff never gave me that tingly feeling.
Oh wow, I get that feeling too.
Most of my favorite songs and music tracks give me that tingly feeling, and some are even.. euphoric. They put me in a trance of some kind, and I love it.
It's called frisson.
@@secretsecret6381 You serious?
I've never heard of that word before, so that's neat.
It helps me sleep. I have insomnia and bipolar disorder. The sounds calm me down.
I think you might have a humiliation kink 😆😆
@@reatile Bruh...I just think they're funny. The insults are creatively passive aggressive. 😂😂😂😂
@@jojojo89517 yep
i did watch mukbangs when i had an eating disorder but for different reasons than most others doing the same thing i think. i have mesophonia so it was more like hearing the chewing for me made me feel sick. i know it also triggers people with bulimia and binge eating disorder a lot just by the nature of the content. i wouldn’t say it’s a bad thing though overall cause a lot of people find it comforting.
This was such a great video, thank you for discussing this
Glad you enjoyed it!
ASMR is the epitome of everything that makes Hank Hill go "BWAAAA!"
That slurping sound in mukbangs... I just can't. It freaks me right tf out!
Great video, I'm a nerd gal and I'm into roleplay asmr, regular asmr, not so much. I do enjoy the book of the damned series, and can't wait to see what the next one will be about.
I love understanding WHY I love ASMR so much especially since the pandemic. So glad I clicked this. Thank you.
I like the slime and miniature cooking videos 😂 I can't handle hearing people eat though, especially the loud chewing 😣
I don’t get asmr. Great vid though. Thanks for always delivering, Fox.
I just like the sound of typing to give me soothing tingles and then send me to sleep.
i have misophonia and asmr makes me so incredibly mad
glad i’m not the only one!!
High five!!
I absolutely despise the sound of clacking, tapping or anything that sounds intentional, i prefer those that are basically just them doing everyday things etc brewing coffee at home, or cleaning kind of stuff
what?? you pay people to binge eat and they'll develop disordered eating habits?? *insert surprise pikachu*
I've been waiting for someone to make a video like this
Big fan of ASMR, particularly men speaking German or Russian.
I sometimes use ASMR to relax, but I never watched mukbangs, I mostly watch like cat purring or slime
Great video again, I've been watching for a while now!
Thanks for watching! I truly appreciate it ❤️
I have major anxiety and ASMR just makes the anxiety worse tbh. If it helps you with your anxiety, that's amazing! It's just not for me, scandals aside.
Asmr makes me incredibly uncomfortable and anxious
If you need some wholesome pet asmr, there is this one video of a kitty cat eating a sausage, and he is very happy. It is a normal sized sausage, he is just a small kitty. It’s one of my favorite videos so I hope you can enjoy it too
I’m surprised how little legit ASMR content consumers are present here
Same here, I thought that there would've been more of an ASMR community here haha
What I mostly hate about Asmr are those GF/BF "roleplays". It's so cringe and many poeple get lost in that "content" actually thinking they have a GF.
Perhaps the decision was reversed, but at least based on articles I read by The Guardian, The Verge, and asmrblog.com, they claimed that it was banned
That being said, right before I fall asleep I'll pop on a video or playlist about space.
Awesome video! Love your videos!
I think the werewolf boyfriend asmrs and anime boy asmr has made it have a weird reputation, the ASMR I watch is not that
I love Fandom ASMRs like Danganronpa ASMR and Persona 5 ASMR. They are just calming to me.
Asmr really relaxes me but the muck bang eating and sexual noise asmr are vile and I find very disturbing.
Agreed.
Same here
The asmr community is… a mixed bag that I am NOT interested in sticking my hand in.
I looked the first one I found for asmr who was not a female was a tortoise
was it eating a watermelon?
Yes it was
