SUMMARY
In this video Laci Green discusses dress code controversies. She outlines the distinction between a dress code and a sexist dress code and offers 5 reasons why these are harmful. In part 2, she discusses concerns about hyper-sexualization. In part 3, she outlines the actions taken by viewers in the past and calls others to action. - Розваги
"Hey girl...that shoulder you got there is FIINNNEEEE!" Said no guy ever
Well, a few guys have shoulder fetishes. Not me, but a few strange people.
damnnn...well guys do also get turned on by faces as well. The Dress code doesn`t make us cover that up.
Metalforlife "Thanks, I hear that all the time."
Metalforlife It's not really about the shoulders lol. I think schools have rules about straps sometimes shirts with thinner straps rest lower on the neckline, potentially showing some cleavage. I think the rule is stupid though, I am just giving you a reason why administrators may feel that way.
MetalforlifeShhh,. they'll hear you.
No guys are gonna go up to a girl and say:
Dang girl I like them knees girl show me them knees!
Yeah or "Damn girl, those are some HOT shoulders you have!"
emmaiscool56 or "DAYUMMMM THATS A NICE THIGH." 😂😂😂 women aren't pieces of fried chicken.
emmaiscool56 yeah but people showing of there side boob in math class will surely distract me
emmaiscool56 or shoulders...
emma, in the "old days" men said that about a woman's ankles, because that is all they were allowed to see! And in some Arab countries, women are still not allowed to show ankles under any circumstances at all. Much less their face, head, shoulders, body, nothing. That's why they are imprisoned in "burkas." It's absolutely insane.
I'm a lesbian, and if I can control myself around girls in short shorts/skirts and cleavage showing tops, then I don't see why people think straight guys can't. My guy friends aren't going to lose their shit because they can see some random girl's shoulder or thighs
Sameee
Straight guys can control themselves, but that's not why we have dress codes. Dress codes are put in place to protect a person's modesty, and keep students from wearing whatever the hell they want. School districts here put certain guidelines in place to keep schools civilized, and fully lay out what's considered "proper attire"
It really has nothing to do with "distracting the boys"... I've never heard any of my teachers say that when sending someone home for violating the dress code. Also, I haven't heard of any school that has a specific dress code for girls and a specific one for boys. What I do know is that women can get away with showing skin more than boys.
Because feminist thinks if you have a penis then it's your fault.
Well im a feminist, and I don't think that. I think the idea that men are mindless sex monsters is sexist bullshit
+Bewaretheshoe H same, I hear pretty fucked up shit about us girls in the hall and it pisses me off. Boys don't understand what it is like to be a girl and it makes me angry that we are still not treated equally.
A guy wore a green body suit on the last day of school. My teacher admitted that it was the first time she ever busted a guy for dress code
LOL
+Lkwnineteen I think that's what it's called
Probably because boys are not offended easily and don't decide to break the rules just to get kicked out of school and get attention and followers on social media....
Joshua Labrada Haha that's true! I know people who are breaking dress code because they can. I don't understand why people (typically girls) refuse to follow the rules and blame everyone else when they get in trouble.
^^^
Fun fact: if you're pulling girls out of class because her attire 'might be too distracting' for the boys', it literally means you value his education more than hers.
Not quite. Say there's 20 people in a class. It means you're valuing the education of 10 people over one person.
jojag5
By your logic, boys are slaves to their hormones who cannot control their base desires at all. Whether you blame a girl's attire for a boy not concentrating in class or blame a girl's attire for a boy raping her, you're saying the same thing "No boy or man is responsible for his actions. He has the self-awareness, conscious, and decision-making skills of a gnat; it's up to every girl and woman not to provoke him, because he can't stop himself from acting as a sexual predator."
jojag5 because all guys are straight and distracted by a girls fucking shoulder... Because it's not more distracting to stop class, point it out and send her home...
It means that you're too entitled to follow a simple rule for 6 hours a day
If you could see my penis through my shorts, you would be distracted too. How is it any different for women wearing flimsy outfits?
I never thought about this while I was in high school, but I remember "spaghetti straps" being such a big deal and girls always getting in trouble over it.. It's so dumb really!! PRETTY SURE THE TEACHERS ARE MORE DISTRACTED THAN THE STUDENTS..
i know!!
several (many) years ago, when I was in the FIRST grade, i wore spaghetti straps to school. no one cared until a teacher caught me in the hallways and told me to put a jacket on. so i did. none of the 7 year olds cared! it was the school staff that found it "distracting."
i was seven years old. i can't believe how wrong it is that schools are still doing this, and to children so young...
So teachers are allowed to wear spaghetti straps too?
Zombiestew yeah sure why not! An attractive OR unattractive teacher will be remembered depending on how attractive/unattractive she is ..not by her clothing choice. I remember my junior year english teacher was very cute and had such a nice booty lol ...and a middle school english teacher had a total FUPA. I forgot about a ton of others.
***** Not only is that sexist, but that "ethnic hairstyles not allowed" is downright racist.
They still are, I can't ware anything that doesn't go at least (if I'm lucky) an inch past my shoulder
I got sent home because i was wearing ripped jeans and I wouldn't change into SHORTS!! The only part of skin I was showing was my knee and they wanted my to change into shorts which show way more skin. WTF!?!?
Oh you poor sensitive child, how hard was it to follow the rules like every other human on this planet? it must be hard realizing your not entitled to anything...I'll bring a tissue so you can wipe the tears away... poor thing....
That makes no sense xD
Literally whatt
***** Girls at my school would wear booty shirts and they wouldn't even allow me to wear jeans with 2 holes in my knees! Thats fucking ridiculous!
+Drea Jade if you have time to complain here you have time to complain to the school
+dilyn baumgardner boys aren't held to the same standard
Yes school my acne covered shoulder is too hot for school
I hate dress codes
scrpentine same
my school doesn't allow leggings but my friend literally wore roller skates to school and didn't get in trouble because there's no rule against it.
u wot m8?
Benjamin Miller one thing that was funny at my school was that my boyfriend decided to wear a shirt that said "keep calm and go f##k yourself" to school. he got in trouble.
Benjamin Miller your friend's shirt sounds like something an arrogant person might wear.
It's a reference. They weren't telling people not to sit with them.
Lily Williams oh leggings! that's the other thing the school banned (my school)
"I'm sorry Mr. Teacher Sir, I flunked my test because the girl sitting next to me was wearing short shorts".
sm_loves_cat If all girls wear them, then yes, most boys would be running after girls instead of grades. Perhaps because you're not a boy you don't understand the power of sexual attraction amounst hormonal teenagers.
AWResistance No one takes into account the fact that lesbians exist and they have a pretty okay time not being distracted by girls
+AWResistance I may not be a boy, but I am a hormonal teenager. I'm also gay, I get distracted by cute girls in class, but I also know I can't blame that girl for my poor performance in class.
AWResistance I may not be a boy, but I am a hormonal teenager. I'm also gay, I get distracted by cute girls in class, but I also know I can't blame that girl for my poor performance in class.
sm_loves_cat aybe you need medication for A.D.D
My schools homecoming is coming up and everyday on the announcements they say "The homecoming is coming up and make sure to dress appropriately, especially you ladies" and I'm new to this school so that actually shocked me that they'd target girls like that. They said that there's a dress code for girls at homecoming but not guys. It really irked me.
Take a look around at how the guys dress. You will see they all pretty much dress the same. Now take a look at what the girls have on. Wildly different. All of them pushing how much skin they show. You know there is a reason why the girls get into trouble and the guys don't but it does require a little bit of work on your part.
When I was at school there where shirtless guys everywhere and I can't show a bra strap.
Idk what school you went to, but when I was in school, guys had to wear shirts... everywhere.
Emz Persom at my school, literally every single grade 12 guy got sent home because of a grad prank where they took off their shirts in class
You're either lying or 80 years old, and even then you're probably still lying.
riiiiggghhhhtt
eggies over spinach bullshit
I once was wearing this sweater with an open shoulder. I even wore a tank top under it so nothing was even revealing, all you could see was this small segment of my shoulder. My vice principal came INTO my classroom specifically to tell me that what I was wearing was inappropriate and against dress code because she could see my shoulder, then proceeded to tell me to put on a jacket.
stories like these really highlight the fact that the administration often causes MORE of a distraction by putting so much attention on the dress code than the supposed "distraction" they were trying to avoid in the first place!
xjusttheskyx I'm sorry that happened to you. That's totally unacceptable. I love off-shoulder sweaters and I wear a tank top under it. It makes me feel good. I'd be so upset if an adult did that to me when I was in school.
I hope you can gather more information in your school and find out instances like these, then start a poster campaign! :)
xjusttheskyx It takes a special level of distraction for a Vice Principal to have to interrupt an entire class just to tell a random student to put on a jacket.
I don't think simply having some bare skin would even qualify, unless the Vice Principal was really, really horny.
...
Dark.
This is kind of similar to what one of my friends had to go through. She was wearing a tanktop, just that, a tanktop, not low cut or anything else people could justify that with, and my teacher told her that she needed to put on a jacket and forced her to look for one and wouldn't stop until I told my friend she could borrow mine. This whole system is really unfair, and I'm sorry you had to go through that.
I don't believe that.
I'm glad to see that Laci wasn't putting blame on the guys for this one. Because it's not. It's the school systems and administration's fault for objectifying women's bodies at ALL ages. KINDERGARDEN. REALLY?? The schools having these rules puts the thought that women SHOULD be objectified sexually. They're really doing way more harm than good.
yeah at that age kids should still be considered innocent. which means treated as innocents. which means school needs to back off, hands off. They're applying adult logic to innocence, this happens more and more often, doesn't work. Hands off, schools! wtf!
Like the point about the kindergartener's skort - who is distracted by a child's outfit? Especially in the way that needing to change it implies? Certainly not other children! And if there is someone present feeling that kind of distractions, why the hell are they being allowed around children?!
She didn't put the blame on the guys she was stating that the school system was using the guys like it was a problem when it wasn't
***** Exactly. Why the fuck is hugging considered "sexually inappropriate" at *any* age?
Andrea Mclauchlan Andrea, Skippy said the same thing. You might want to read it again.
Guys in the comments assuming that 10 and 11 year old girls are explicitly wearing shorts for their attention is why this topic needs to be talked about more. I was dress coded in SK for wearing a dress that went past my knees because it had spaghetti straps. I was 4! Do you think my four year old self was just trying to get attention from boys? I have big breasts, and at my school we have uniforms, so we don't have to have crazy dress code standards, and still girls are targeted by teachers and vice principals even when the uniform has not been altered in any way despite the fact that boys sag their pants super low yet they don't get dress coded. You say dress codes are in place to prepare you for the workforce, but is sagging your pants mid-thigh workplace attire?
Yes, i have a uniform too, and a mom tell my mom that girls shouldn't wear skirts of any long, because it will distract the boys, and also in summer, is really hot and we can't take off my long socks or wear my skirt shorter, but guys can bend they're pants till up the knee
Well, the dress got your attention which is why it got worn. So, if it got your attention it’s definitely gonna get unwanted attention too.
@@berypar4740 wtf you’re an anal wart📸🐒
Teacher: MISS PERRY, I NEED TO SPEAK WITH YOU
*goes in hallway*
Teacher: *yelling at the top of her lungs so the class hears the whole thing* A YOUNG LADY SHOULDN'T DRESS LIKE THAT
(I was wearing a semi see through shirt with a tank top)
Me: Like what?
Teacher: You have a bra strap showing!
Me: WHAT? A TEENAGE GIRL? WEARING A BRA?
Teacher: PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE. NOW.
Lol, bruh it's like the teacher doesn't want teens wearing bras
>:O A TEENAGE GIRL WEARING A *BRA?!* WHAT KIND OF SOCIETY IS THIS?!
That's messed up man... In my country we don't have dresscodes and everyone can wear what they want to school. Except roller skates hahaha those are a danger
Riley Freeman lmfao it's great here in the Netherlands with our health care and freedom of speech and being able to marry no matter what your sexuality is and being able to wear shorts or a tank top without being called a prostitute. Though there's nothing wrong with prostitutes? They're just doing their job?
Riley Freeman Let me guess. You're 13.
We must stop this inappropriate, distracting disgrace.
#StopTheRollerbladesInOurEducation2k15
Now THAT'S what I call distracting...
Riley Freeman Lol. Part of me wants to point out everything wrong with your statements but the other part knows it's a waste of my time.
Riley Freeman That's exactly what a 13 year old would say.
The shoulder rule is fucking hilariously bad. What is bad about a shoulder? Honestly.
Don't you know that's where a womans sexual power lies? It's how we trick men into doing bad things! :P
Eli Acevedo I think it's mainly because schools forget that literally everyone has shoulders (or mostly everyone anyway). They think its some mystical thing that only girls possess.
***** yeah, well sexualized shoulders are apparently something only a girl has. ugh.
I think it's to prevent girls from wearing tube tops and spaghetti straps? Idk. That is the best I can think of
skin, some teachers apparently have shoulder fetishes.
i got dress coded the other day because my shorts were “almost too short” like why should i be dress coded if i’m not even breaking the rules
Spaghetti straps are distracting boys because they think of spaghetti when they see them
I love that in some schools male teachers are no longer allowed to report 'dress code' issues about female students because it basically means that they were staring at the underage girls to find the issues in the first place.
So if a girl walks in with extremely short shorts I have to be "staring" to notice? lol
Feminism redefines another word!
Staring:
Noticing basic and obvious visual cues.
EisforEvil lol
*shrugs* go on and twist my words, you've clearly never been oggled by a teacher before so you have no room to tell me that my experience and that other females experiences are incorrect. Keep your world view if you'd like but there is nothing wrong with having an open mind and understanding that maybe some men are staring at the under age girls and some girls especially ones in say kindergarten, should not have to worry that their skort is too short because they are children and they are not objects to be sexualized because someone thinks their shorts or skirt is too short as an adult. Also what is too short is extremely objective, some very religious people think showing any skin at all is wrong but you don't have to live by that standard in your own life so why are we forcing young girls to see their bodies as sexual objects that need to be covered up when it might be 100 degrees outside and they just want to wear a pair of shorts.
julia mahoney Don't bloody dress in exposing clothes, if it's so problematic for you. You don't exactly see men dress in extra tight shorts and extra small and extra tight tshirts, only to complain about it later.
You're making up your own issues, fix them yourselves.
When I was in the 8th grade, I was sent home from school for wearing a tank top. In September. In a school with no air conditioning. And when I ask why it was so distracting, my principle said showing my shoulders could be seen as "trampy."
But a boy is allowed to wear a "cool story babe, now get back in the kitchen" t shirt, no questions asked?
Completely messed up, thank you for making this video Lacey! ❤️
Miranda Marie alot of times dudes hide tha kind of stuff from faculty visability (I did because baby scumbag shirts are against dress code) and it's not inherently obvious. I understand your frustration, but last year I was forced to change on the last day of school (which was an all outdoors hot as hell summer day) for wearing a Michael jordan jersey...
That's fucked
So wait, the guy was wearing a completely different top and wasn't treated the identical way to you? Shock! TERROR!
While I don't agree with the school's decision that they made you violated their dress code and they are within their rights to do so on the other hand as Scummy as it may be the people wearing the T-shirts you mentions are considered expressing themselves and are not violating the dress code as much as I disagree with it those are the rules
mythousandfaces no, her school staff said she looked "trampy" but no one cared when a boy wore a shirt promoting sexist and completely inappropriate ideas
Thats why I think Australian schools are good as almost all of them have uniforms. So everyone wheres the same stuff
Bethany W
I agree; uniform has the potential to solve the immediate problem, but school is, in many ways, meant to prepare you for real, every day life. And the workplace dress code is basically as complicated as school dress codes so the issue just comes up again!
It's fine to not have uniforms and have a fun place as on as the dress codes are sexist
One thimg she didn't say that should be
mentioned is that in most schools boys can show all of their underwear and NOTHING IS DONE but the SECOND a girls shirt slips or moves (sometimes by guys unwantedly touching them) and a shoulder or bra strap is shown the GIRL is dress coded
What kind of school do you go to?
+Troll Breaker high school happened at my middle school too
Musa Maka No I mean what kind of school has a dress code like that?
+Troll Breaker its against dress code but as long as its not a girl breaking the dress code teachers don't give a dang its been like that at every school I've been to boys can wear anything and girls get yelled at for everything
Musa Maka Well at my school, nobody can wear sleeveless shirts with straps less than an inch, and girls can wear leggings so long as they wear shorts or a skirt over them. Also, they allow short shorts if your hands don't go below the pant legs.
Fair enough if they want to have a dress code. That's their choice. But if girls can't wear tops without sleeves or shorts, guys shouldn't be allowed to either. And the reason shouldn't be that it's "distracting."
I don't know about your school, but at mine guys are not permitted to wear tops without sleeves or short shorts.
spacemancool1 I went to a similar school.
The school I went to did ban shirts without sleeves for boys and had the same length requirements as girls shorts.
In all schools I went to in 2 states that's how it was done and during jr high and middle school guys got in trouble more. Sleveless top thing.
Ooooh my yes.
Let me tell you, when I was a teenage girl, those flimsy basketball shorts and track pants were the ultimate distraction because you could definitely see bulge or outlines at times... especially if the boy decided to go commando! And even that aside, they made a lot of those boys' butts look goooooood.
Boys aren't the only ones that get distracted. Girls aren't the only ones that do the distracting. And let's be real, here - even in the winter when everyone would be bundled up and you couldn't see any bodies, I *still* spent probably an absurd about of time dreamily eyeing my crushes during class instead of paying attention to the teacher.
There, of course, has to be an effort to reduce distraction as much as possible in schools, but unbalanced expectations between genders is so not the solution.
I'm bisexual, and the bodies of both the boys and the girls around me were distracting at times. What did I do? I learned to suck it up and focus. I didn't need the school system to baby me for that.
It's like these educators think skimpy clothing will go away once these kids graduate high school. News flash: there are going to be scantily-clad people around outside of school for our entire lives, so it's better for us to get used to it. It's just another lesson to be learned, and isn't that what school is for in the first place?
trumpeterjen Ugh, exactly. I am pansexual, and it drives me nuts whenever people act like boys are the only sexual beings in the universe. I can't imagine how annoying it is for a lesbian to be dress-coded and told that her body is distracting to boys when she isn't even attracted to them in the first place! As for preventing distractions, they're never too worried about girls being distracted. If they had been, they would have banned my hormone-laden ass from the locker room.
bbhouk1 I'm an asexual disabled astronomer who lives on the moon and i am forced to wear clothes that are way to revealing.
bbhouk1 damn thats a valid point about the lesbian thing
Thank you for this
Who are you even talking to? Me?
People don't wear bikinis if they're not at the beach. If a possibility isn't realistic, there's no reason to consider it.
If a guy showed up to school without a shirt on he'd get sent home. It's not about sexism, it's about dressing APPROPRIATELY. You can't show up at work wearing booty shorts and a crop top, so why should you be allowed to dress like that at school? Wear them to the beach or mall for all I care, but not school. Now I can understand debates on what exactly draws the line like how short shorts can be, but dress codes are NOT sexist. Newsflash, men's fashion doesn't usually show as much skin as women's does. Blame fashion, not dress codes.
+Musickt196 High school is not a formal place, it is not a job. Girls wear clothes to be comfortable in while they are learning for 8 hours a day. I work in a school and I am going to college right now. I can tell you that I wear completely different clothes at work than I do to my classes. School is not a formal place.
Elizabeth Jones You're right, but it's still important to dress appropriately. The rules should be respected.
+Musickt196 I personally am not comfortable wearing short shorts and crop tops, but I was raised to believe that if I showed off my body, I was sinning and was going to go to hell. I can barely wear shorts that reach my knees in public. I wear shorts and a tank top over my swim suit. This past summer was the first time I've worn shorts during summer; usually I tough it out in long jeans. I do know what it's like to be shamed into wearing covering clothes. But I'm also learning how comfortable it is to wear shorts and sleeveless shirts. I have a scar on the underside of my arm and shirts with sleeves, even tiny cap sleeves, will irritate it sometimes. I have trouble finding shirts that have sleeves that don't mess with my scar.
I do not think that shirts that show excessive boob or shorts that show butt should be allowed in schools, but I also believe that girls should not be held responsible for boys' thoughts and actions
So many guys getting butt hurt in the comments
Guess I can't say this because I'm a girl seems all the guys are coming after me. Just proving I'm right. Wear what you want.
not as butthurt as woman
+Lauryn Hendry
man how hard is it to look professional in a school area that's trying to get you prepared for life. should I as a man carry a faint mattress behind you because when someone insults your unprofessional attire you can only gasp in the horror of them being correct?
+dilyn baumgardner so a girl can't wear shorts or something with out it being seen as unprofessional wow
Nice of you tho to kinda of think like that. But the guy should be professional too by not staring at a girls body like that in school
so boys should suppress there sexuality?
And yet laci green is butt hurt in the video
Can you just, rule the world please?
Priya Malelu Well Beyonce said, "Who runs the world? Girls!" so they already do I guess.
BawdSpeellar All hail Beyonce
***** ...and its all thanks to feminism I bet.
***** , I'm a history major, and it makes me relieved that someone else grasps basic historical information.
Priya Malelu If she did i'd be horrified.
What I hate most about this bigotry ist that these people who want to tell girls and women how to dress probably hate muslim women for wearing headscarves and think they're aaaaaaaaall poor oppressed victims who are not allowed to wear what they want, who are not about to make decisions concerning their own bodies, who are not allowed or even able to speak up... while at the same thime, this is exactly what they are doing but of course, are completely denying it.
I was scrolling to your comment and i completely laughed. So you know how Muslim women feel huh? You KNOW that they FEEL oppressed? If these women feel perefectly fine with wat they are wearing, than let it be.
Mame Seck Please re-read the original comment. You are misinterpreting it.
Mame Seck
Mame Seck Actually, that is was I wanted to say. I am sorry, if I didn't write precisely enough. My english is not exactly perfect.
Riotschminke Yeah, it sucked.
I believe that girls should not be treated like "meat" or boys or ANYONE for that matter. And that is what these schools are teaching. Like Lacy said of course there should be rules. EVERY place has rules. But there is a limit. Tank tops, shorts, yoga pants, tight jeans, etc. Are NORMAL clothes. Which what I will NEVER understand. Never knew shoulders and knees would be "distracting" -_-
And plus EVERYONE not just boys, should respect.
Guys should start controlling themselves.
I get it, you're going through puberty and changes are being made. But that doesn't mean we can't control ourselves.
your right men should feel ashamed for there own sexuality . some like the same arguments that homophobes make about gays.
Yeah, cuz guys controlling their hormones is easier than having a girl dress how they should.
Stew Gru it is easy. It's called Self-control.
***** -_-
This is ridiculous, guys have self control but if they really can't handle a girl wearing shorts it's their fucking problem.
It's actually the filthy male faculty, not really the boys. That's just the bullshit they yakk to take the eyes off themselves. I don't think any schoolboy ever didn't not love their classmates 'distracting' clothes.
Exactly! It's their problem, not their teacher's!
Mehrunes Dagon evidently this is one of your early attempts at being a troll. Practice in the shadows first.
Mehrunes Dagon LOL Sexist trolls. You guys are fun.
Mehrunes Dagon If the men are hungry they can get up and make food themselves.
And the nit picking on the term "guys"...Brings me back to kindergarten...
If you find shoulders sexually attractive you need mental help. Asap.
Murphy Star Shoulders are sexually attractive but it depends on who they are connected to. Deciding what is sexually attractive is kind of stupid if you're applying it to people other than yourself.
I'm a girl. I'm pissed that I can't wear tanks to school because supposedly it will be a distraction
This is what is wrong with Feminism, Feminazis put out their shit propaganda for every vulnerable little girl to hear and they brainwash the minds of girls everywhere with things that appease them such as less strict uniform rules. Feminists are a bunch of sheep who don't know how to form a complete thought on their own, the minute an idea is put out all the little feminist are immeaditly supportive. Maybe if there were more than one or two feminist that were intelligent, they could actually be trusted to change the world for the better...
How does wearing a tank top make me a hooker? When I was in high school, we had no air conditioning, and it got fucking hot as hell in that building. It was hard to focus on school work when I was pretty much getting overheated. It ultimately affected some of my final grades (we took them at the end of May) so I hope that the men that were going to be distracted by my shoulders are happy.
Didn't you know women only exist on this planet for men's sexual needs? We're not humans or anything. Therefore having our shoulders exposed will distract our poor little men from their precious education.
My school dress code:
BOYS:
-No tank tops
-shoes must be white or black
-no colorful socks
GIRLS:
-Shorts and skirts/shorts must be two inches above knees
-No high tops or heels
-must wear socks
-socks must be two inches above ankles
-no colorful socks
-no tight shirts
-no "spaghetti straps" or tank tops
-no ripped jeans, leggings, jeggings, or skinny jeans
-no exposed midriff, shoulders, chest, back, or thighs
-no dangling earings
-no makeup
-nails must be French tip, white, or clear (if painted)
I absolutely LOVE my reading teacher. He said to a guy once who was disrespecting a girl "You will respect these girls, just because you don't have to follow a dress code doesn't mean you should disrespect them for showing their shoulders and knees" I was like THANK YOU!
Fortunately, I went to a Catholic school, so there was no double-standard. EVERYONE regardless of gender was made to feel ashamed of our bodies! ;-p
Okay, but on a serious note, the double-standards is dress codes is probably the least of the problems with the education system. Dress codes are just one of the ways in which schools teach mindless conformity.
Tumblrina It wouldn't be if the same rules applied, but the other problems would remain.
When I went to a religious school, girls were forced to wear skirts to school, they didn't start letting girls wear pants until after I left. I hated it because during recess the boys would always mess with girls. I legitimately had a boy pull down my skirt one day going to the bathroom as a prank.
In my school, girls were allowed to wear tank tops, but boys were not.
Yeah, I went to a religious school too. We were also forced to wear dresses/skirts which was definitely annoying. (I was a tomboy and loved to run and play) One, I kept getting taller and got in trouble because my dress was not "long enough". Mind you, it was (it was the same length as everyone else) but I was still forced to buy new uniforms when I couldn't even afford it. (I guess since I was so much taller than the other girls, my dress had to be extra long) Then we would have recess and have to wear dresses so we couldn't run around and play on the grass without fear that our uniform would fly up and expose ourselves. Then finally they made a rule that every Friday we could were pants and I remember being so happy because I could run around and do hand stands and cartwheels with my friends like all the boys had been doing all along.
I agree over conservative dress codes are sexist but there should be a dress code than bans EXTREME proactive clothing.
Isaac Willis And I agree. The point Laci is trying to make is the disparity between what is allowed for girls and what is allowed for boys. One of the posters shown had girls being penalized for wearing yoga pants but not guys.
We don't have any dress codes in my country and no one comes to school naked. Sure, some might show a little cleavage but it's not a distraction to anyone :D
Isaac Willis Yea but people have different views on what is EXTREME. Some people have no problem hardly wearing anything and think it's fine----> so to them they are not being EXTREME.
Here in Sweden there is no dresscode, what so ever and NO ONE in fucking history has ever come to school naked or in their underwear, so why would you need a dresscode for that?
Linzepop Isaac Willis ***** Maybe one of the reasons that some people wear proactive clothing in schools is specifically because there is a dress code and they want to rebel against it? I mean it is teenagers are talking about here.
ThERE'S LITERALLY PEOPLE VAPING AND SMOKING WEED IN OBVIOUS OPEN PLACES AT MY SCHOOL AND I JUST GOT A WARNING THAT MY SKIRT IS TOO SHORT
Jake Cooke my school doesn't do shit they're like afraid of the men except for the women
+radtemmie or teachers are just ignorant sometimes.
In my school we have a strict dress code for girls
It's funny cuz the idea behind it is the same idea behind why schools shouldn't have these double standers- it's that were more than a sexual image. We have a dress code because our teachers tell us we are more than a body, our body is something God gave us, and not to show off all of it to the world. Our sexuality should only be shared with important people. And when you are fully clothed, people don't look at your body, but raher at who you are as a person. I think it's so true.
Anya Raco You are welcome.
Your body is only for your partner and no one else, no cheating, no nothing, stay faithful and maybe our future could be pushed to the right direction.
+Marksman the Destroyer girls do not need to hide there bodies in order to be faithful and our bodies are for is not our partners
Local Defender but in the fact of 13 year old girls who shouldn't be having sex and im speaking of i want to wear shorts and a tank top today and not be sexualized becuase thats creepy to sexualize a child and i cant wear leggings to school becuse my body is sexual so i cant wear comfortable pants
Trinity Snow I'm talking about adults.
How is it sexist to tell girls to cover up? The only reason boys aren't told to cover up is because they already do. And how the hell is it sexist to tell girls not to wear yoga pants or leggings? Yoga pants are for yoga, and leggings aren't pants, they're leggings. Leggings are an undergarment.
Nope... They are pants. Long underwear is UNDERWEAR... I personally despise leggings, but I don't see girls walk around in giant wooly pairs of long underwear.
what's your evidence that it is not based on how they look?
Masuna No, based on the fact that leggings are undergarments. They're meant to go under skirts or dresses, to stop you from looking really slutty, and are not to be worn as pants.
If women don't want to dress themselves, and then want special treatment and bitch and complain when they're told to actually wear a proper attire, maybe they're just retarded. I learned to dress myself when I was 3.
where are your facts? you are just supporting it with opinion. also, no. they were meant for sportswear but was then popularized in the late 2000's due to their comfortability.
Masuna No, they were actually meant for an underwear.
Wow this a legit issue, not super bad but still true and sexist. Boys are allowed to wear whatever as long as their junk is covered, but girls are fully made out of "naughty parts".
I've been there too - since grade 7 my boobs were too big for my school shirts and I was always ridiculed for dressing "too sexy", while it was just simply a matter of stuff not fitting me properly or buttons popping open from breathing.
Ayla Cheshir That is so true as long as there "junk is covered" who cares. (sarcastic speaking)
Telling girls to cover up, just as telling boys they may not wear muscle shirts and pants waist down to their you know what., is not telling them their bodies are inappropriate, It tells them that there is a time and place for different kinds of dress.
Both sexes have an obligation. Boys and men need to be taught not to objectify women, and women need to be taught not to objectify themselves. School is a place where education should come first, not learning to leer at women or wearing clothes that entice men. Granted children are learning about their sexuality at this age, but school is not the venue to practice it.
In fact, I'm all for uniforms. They eliminate not only this problem, but help with class distinctions in schools, especially in middle school. If we want to teach our children to be judged for their inner beauty, rather than their outer beauty, parents need to walk the walk.
Joseph S Nobody is claiming that telling people to cover up is basically saying that your bodies are inappropriate. The problem lies not with the dress code, but with unfairly targeting girls and not equally enforcing the rules on boys. When you do that, you are showing that boys don't have to adhere to the dress code if they don't want to (and that thinking may extend to other areas, may teach them to feel entitled), and you are showing that girls need to be dressed a certain way or they are otherwise considered promiscuous, provocative, and/or distracting. Personally, I don't think that schools HAVE to be considered a place where you need to dress like you would when going to work. I think it's great that many schools allow freedom of expression through clothing, but I have no qualms with schools mandating a dress code because they believe that you SHOULD dress for school like you would for work. What I DO have qualms about is when schools don't equally enforce that dress code on both genders; when the faculty end up cutting one gender slack while unfairly targeting the other.
You are actually contradicting yourself when you say that "boys and men need to be taught not to objectify women, and women need to be taught not to objectify themselves". You say men need to learn not to objectify, but then you say that women need to learn not objectify themselves-- you are still putting blame on women for dressing the way they do. Women (and men) should be able to dress however they want to because they have the right to express themselves. If a woman (or a man) wants to express herself a certain way by wearing certain clothing, then she should be allowed to do it without being accused of "objectifying herself". More often than not, her intent is not to cry out for attention, rather, she usually just likes the way her clothing looks and she likes the way it looks on her. That isn't objectifying herself, that's confidence. I am of course, not saying that men and women are not allowed to look or stare at someone because of how they're dressed (we're GOING to do that if we see something we like or if we see something strange), but both genders need to understand that the clothing that someone is wearing is not grounds for objectification, no matter how "provocative" or "distracting" it might be.
Actually, I'd say that school IS the perfect place to practice not leering at women. You are at school to learn, if you allow yourself to get distracted by what someone else is wearing, that is YOUR fault, not the fault of the person wearing the thing that distracted you. That's like saying we need to board up all the windows because it's their fault for tempting children to look out of them and get distracted by what's outside and not pay any attention in class. You're taking away individual responsibility and then putting that responsibility on other peoples' shoulders. You're making it someone else's problem to make sure that the child is paying attention, instead of actually making the child LEARN to pay attention.
Girls going to school generally aren't wearing clothes specifically to entice men, rather they wear them because that's what they feel comfortable in and that's how they express themselves. I'd imagine it's the same for boys, and girls are just as guilty of being enticed by how men dress too. It's perfectly fine if boys and girls are attracted by what they are seeing, but what matters is that they control their wandering eyes while in class. If they fail to so, it is NOT the responsibility of other people to wear clothes that won't distract them, as it is THEIR responsibility to learn how to ignore those distractions. They won't be coddled in the real world, and it's best that they learn that as soon as possible.
Uniforms don't teach children to judge inner beauty because there will always be those who look better in them than others. There will always be those who look more attractive in the face, who have better looking hair, eyes, and skin, and there will always be those who look more physically fit. Uniforms don't magically hide all of that. Clothes aren't even the only determining factor in people's perceptions of beauty to begin with, and in fact, I'd say it has very little influence in general compared to other things like weight, height, facial features, make-up, and body type. I also wouldn't say they help with class distinctions because many families have trouble affording them, and it's obvious which kids are the poor ones when they don't have all the cool new stuff that the richer kids have; the poorer children still feel left out. You still have a divide because the poorer kids will feel more comfortable hanging out with the kids that are like them and the richer kids will naturally be drawn to the other kids that have the same stuff they do.
How is it unfairly force onto women? Male dress code are enforce the difference being that guys don't break the dress code ass often as girls. Then it boil down to choices guys have less choices for clothing option then women do.
Ayla Cheshir The sexes are NOT equal, no matter what Laci says.
STORY TIME!!!
I got dress coded by female facalty once for wearing a pair of black tights with a shirt that covered my behind but not my "lower area," yet a group of preppy, rich girls walked by with shorts that showed their bum cheeks and almost their underwear, if they bent over an inch, and even shirts that would show their entire stomachs if they lifted their arms... Does anyone else see my problem???
WAY TO GO GIRL! YOU ARE SOOOO SMART WITH YOUR THOUGHTS SIS. SERIOUSLY...
You know what would help all this? Uniform. I live in Australia and I'm pretty sure every school here has one. I am in grade 10 now so I have been wearing a uniform for 12 years and I see no issue with it. For one, it is a way for people to know who are students and who aren't (so random people can't just walk around the school unnoticed). It removes the pressure to wear the coolest clothes and follow a stupid dress code, therefore lowers this kind of bullying. You also don't need to spend as much money on clothes! I have been using the same school dress since the start of grade 8 ( 2 years ago) and it's still good because you don't need another uniform unless you change schools. Sure, uniforms can be pretty sucky at times but I wouldn't have it any other way. :D
Bro u were the same uniform every day
Uh, yeah? Your point? hawkeye mehawks
Dana thats nasty
Thank you for sharing your opinion! Yes, I agree that school uniforms are far too expensive. But at least once you buy it, it lasts you the whole year at least. It also removes the pressure of trying to buy new clothes to wear everyday. And about the uniform violation you mentioned, you do make a good point. I see where you're coming from. I guess I was pretty unaware since at my school pretty much anything goes, hairdye, piercings, etc. We can accessorise as much or as little as we want with only a few exceptions. :) JadeTheSquid
I went to a public high school in Australia that didn't have a uniform but had dress code with things like "no sleeve less or singlet shirt, no exposed midriff and no shorter than knee length shorts." These were for sun safety as we were in Queensland. It was okay until they said we can't wear leggings under shorts that were to short to make them longer because it was "distracting".
my school ounce called my mom because my "jeans were to tight around my ankle"
wtf yeah omg your ankle is so sexy
+Eva Solis Yum an ankle, such a sexual body part LMFAO!
The other day I got yelled at by a teacher for having my shirt sagging down so my shoulder is visible. I got annoyed and asked the teacher "I don't understand how this is inappropriate, can you please explain to me how it is?" And she said I walk around the school "half naked" and threatened me to go to the principle. I am really pissed off I almost got sent to the principal for a shirt accidentally sagging down my shoulder. Hell even a group of boys wore their wrestling outfits for Halloween and they won a costume contest. This rule is very sexist
dress codes are in place to guide young people into dressing appropriately. if guys were to wear the same clothes as some girls do they would also get in trouble. I know for a fact because a guy at my school tried to wear yoga pants with nothing on overtop, and he got a detention and was forced to wear the "shame sweatpants". yes dress codes target women more because women have a much more diverse wardrobe option. for guys, we have shirts, pants or shorts. that is really it. girls have shirts, blouses, tube tops, belly shirts, dresses, pants, shorts, skirts and probably a hundred other things that I cant think of.
When onsion says that the dress code shouldn't exist he gets so much praise but when lack says that the dress code should be less strict
This is so ironic that you would make this video today because I go to a religious school and we had a chapel today about how we should mind our behavior during spring break and one of my favorite things the guy said (note my sarcasm) was that "girls who wear revealing bikinis deserve any unwanted attention they might get" which made me livid. On another note my teacher told me that if I don't want children then I should never get married and remain celibate my whole life because raising a family is the point of marriage.
Explain this, Boys at our school can't wear shorts even in summer, but girls can wear trousers (pants), shorts and skirts?
Also boys get body shamed, how many fat boys want to have muscles, abs and all that good stuff? Like 99% of boys want to
Check the channel NateTalksToYou
+Gabriel That's misandrist, not feminist at all and that should be stopped. Misandrists are very uncommon, but they are still in society and their beliefs should not be respected because they prefer women, realizing it or not, and will most likely choose the side of the woman. Boys should also be allowed to wear skirts, dresses, jewelry, etc.
+Gabriel Feminism isn't about making those boys feel invalid. In fact, even though feminism does target women since they are treated like the minority, boys suffer through body image as well.
+Megan Hegeman yea
I've never found a video that could conclude this issue so well! 10/10 WELL DONE!
OMG I absolutely LOVE this video!!!
I have always felt this way and very strongly at that. It is unfortunate that this continues into the workplace...this is where I've had the most problems since I would speak up about it.
At my school there was the same dress code for boys as girls. No shorts, skirts had to come to the knee (there was a boy that wore a kilt sometimes because he could), shirts had to cover the entire shoulder, no stomachs shown, no cleavage shown (for boys no shirts that go down low like that).
It being different for boys than girls in some schools is super weird. But also, to fight to get shorts and spagetti strap shirts allowed is also super weird. It's school. Be happy you don't have to wear uniforms. You can wear what you want later.
Thank u someone who understands back in the day kids had to were uniform still do in some county but hell kids are so ungrateful its free education follow the rule and u won't get in trouble
Are maybe I'm wrong school should let girls were booty shorts and have there boobs showing. Yea right😒
***** having freedom is not the problem I live in america and I see what girls would wear if u let them
Uniform is expensive u know how much fashionable clothes cost in the mall plus the money the parents are saving not paying for school like other countries buying a couple uniform is not a problem
If u think girls should were booty shorts were there ass is hanging out and u can see there thighs and skimpy crop tops showing nipple and side boob we have different opinions
***** I never said u wanted so see that that's what girls would wear and how old are so u really think its OK for boys or girls to come to school practically naked how old are u man
What do u think school is for its preparing them for the future and most jobs people have u would probably have dress code the same reason teachers can't wear booty shorts is the same reason the students can't it's not appropriate school is a professional place for learning not the club if they won't to dress like a slut stop muching off free education pay for home school and wear what they won't well if there parents let them some parents would die seeing what there kids wear to school
There is a time and place for every thing imagine if a person came to a funeral with booty shorts and there boobs hanging out would it be sexist asking them to change into something appropriate Jesus Christ why can't u people see that what next no clothes letting kids fuck each other in school fuck it school is obviously to u a free zone with no rules fuck u say let kids wear what they won't yea let's have them able to wear machine guns straped on there back because rules don't matter haha
***** are u a moron its doesn't matter what clothes they wear the problem it there showing to much plus I really don't get what ur trying to say u say I'm going over bored but ur last comment u say kids should wear what they want
U said most jobs kids are going into don't have dress code bullshit if u can't go naked that jobs has dress code or I'm wrong what job do u want to do a striper
Maybe we should just all have uniform because obviously kids don't know they have it easy compared to other countries
***** what do u mean how are they showing to much with dress code policy u do realize there getting in trouble because they are showing to much that's the problem they can wear shorts just long enough they can were skirts not just short skirts the girls are basically complaining about not being able to dress like a ho
And I'm curious what awsome job ur going to do were u can wear what ever u won't
I like the system down here in Australia, where schools have uniform guidelines (if that's the right word). Where I go, the girls can choose between a skirt or black pants or maybe even a skirt with black leggings. And of course guys have choice as well, like shorts and long pants. There's also everything else like jackets for cold days etc.
What I like more that my school decided to do is, instead of having limited pieces of the uniform in different local clothing stores, we've got every option and every size in it's very own school uniform shop beside the hall. (open four days a week)
With school uniforms, there's less of a fuss about the midriff or sleeveless stuff because it doesn't have any. There are some smaller problems involving out-of-uniform hoodies but that's not too big a problem. That just gets addressed and resolved within 10 minutes.
But seeing as American public schools are already having so many problems around what students wear, as an Australian student, I suggest that the uniform system should be used and hopefully it resolves their problems they're putting up with. I don't know if any American public schools do follow the uniform system, but if some do and it works, why not have it more?
The only problem I see with uniforms in American school is the cost to the parents. Unlike Tesco in the UK, WalMart and other stores in the US jack up prices for "nicer" choices like the collared shirts and long pants vs. cheap printed t-shirts and yoga pants. Lower income family might have more difficulty keeping their kids dressed properly.
Heather Hudson Fair enough. Prices can be crap.
I dont see a reason for a uniform if people would not have so much sand in theyre vagina's and bitch about every little thing, the problem would be solved.
just make gender equal rules like : shirts above nipple and below belly button, and pants 3 cm beneith crotch, bam bitching is done.
Actually the girls in uniform find ways to make their skirts shorter on purpose
I loved wearing my uniform every day. I was proud to represent my school and it made getting ready each day very quick and easy. And also, as something that you wear every single day the price is kind of irrelevant. And this is going to be a controversial opinion... if you can't afford a uniform for your child then you probably shouldn't be having kids. At my school if someone's uniform wasn't up to standard they were given a time frame to fix it in. If they didn't then they are welcome to still come to school, however they will be doing their work from a little room by themselves - when I was enrolling for my school though, we had to sign a piece of paper agreeing to all the rules and standards of the school so the attitude was "Well you decided to come here so you need to abide by the rules".
I'm a female, and I think that you have to be respectful in your wardrobe. You can't get mad at the guys all the time. Nothing's wrong with shorts, until you're showing your behind. There's nothing wrong with a tank top, unless your ta-tas are hanging out. It's a respect on both sides.
Laci, no. I have male and female friends who are teachers, and I've had this discussion with them. All of them said pretty much the same thing; enforcing a dress code serves both to prepare students for a workplace environment and to protect faculty against spurious sexual harassment claims. I don't know you're aware of this or not, but most schools in the United States have a zero tolerance policy for sexual harassment (as they should). This means that if Two-Face Tammy gets a hair across her ass and decides to tell a school official that Professor Poosbury looked at her the wrong way or gave her an inappropriate compliment, Professor Poosbury has a good chance of losing his job, and since most schools have the same zero tolerance policy, he's going to have a real hard time finding a place to teach even if he is 100% innocent. Having and enforcing a decent dress code protects faculty from these types of false accusations.
You are In a professional environment, not a strip club. While dress code should and needs to be enforced for both genders, too many feminists feel a stupid right to wear anything anywhere.
you are not??? how is high school a PROFESSIONAL enviroment
Exactly. Wearing what you want in your leisure time is one thing. But there's a reason why schools and workplaces have dress codes, there's a time and place where different kinds of fashion are appropriate.
halfmonochromy It is your workplace. As the parental saying goes, not a fashion show. You're there to learn and socialise, not sleaze.
is that little girl at 0:59 dressed for a strip club? we're not talking about girls walking into school in their underwear, we're talking about normal everyday clothing i.e shorts and tank tops being described as 'distracting' to the male students and staff.
John Smith It's high school, not a work place.
Ok...
Hi, I'm Serenity and I'm 11. My school thinks that shorts obviously weren't meant to be short. So, us 5th and 6th graders scared of getting punishment always wear long shorts, or pants. We are not allowed to wear tank tops because apparently are shoulder are distracting to 10-12 year old boys.
Another thing here, you guys might make a big deal of how I'm young and what's yapping in high school and middle schools dress codes don't matter for me but, do you realize that one day I will be there. And if it's not what I think my education and style should be restricted to then I will stand tall and proud with you. We should not be told what to wear, who to be. This is our body and we should be allowed to do whatever we want with it.
Who's with me? #OurFuture We should choose are future! Everybody speak your voice.
Serenity, I totally agree with you. And also I'd like to say that your grammar is amazing for how young you are. I've seen people way older than you who seem to not understand the concept of a comma or capital letters.
Dress code is there for a reason. I realize that your generation is extremely spoiled and enabled, but you got to realize that the world doesn't revolve around you. Dress code is meant to protect you and your peers. Opening the door by throwing out dress code leads to different complications and a degradation of society as a whole.
Serenity Byers Good for you, Serenity
+josh stover don't be a douchebag if you don't even know the difference between your and you're
shorts are meant to be shorts. yes.
BUT WITHIN REASON AND THEY WILL LET YOU USE THEM.
hell. normally you cant wear leggings.
put on some leggings and put the shorts over them boom code avoided xD
Either way, It may not be often at your school. but alot of boys at 10-12 are already having sex and want nothing but to get a girl in their pants.
That is the sad reality of todays society.
Now not all boys are like that.
But the number is increasing. Thats why the dresscode is in place. For safety.
If a 10-12 year old girl is wearing booty shorts. She will get called out and callrd to change.
Or worse.
A boy could start picking on her and trying to get her to do him 'favors'
It's sad.
But it's the reality of todays society.
thank you for making this video, i go to a middle school in a suburb of Cleveland Ohio. now my high school's dress code consists of a single simple rule. Which basically means at the high school we could wear whatever we want as long as we don't wear a shirt with swear words or that has drugs on it. but at the middle school, the dress code is over a page long with a good 90% of the list targeting just girls. out of all of the kids at my school, they only dress coded a boy 1 that I know of. he was a friend of mine, and this friend happened to have a hole in his jeans (on his knee) about a centimeter wide. and he got dress coded because he FELL on the CONCRETE where he ripped a VERY small hole in his jeans and this 12 year old boy got dress coded. and i'm not allowed to wear leggings, shorts that are deemed "too short, tank tops, and etc. which targets me more than boys. i'm just glad i've got my skinny jeans. and if boys (or girls) want to look at me, they'll find a way
when i was a freshman i was on my way back during the break between a lunch and be lunch (high school total student body of 2-3k kids at the time, my furst year there they added on d lunch). two boys walked up to me, herded me out of the sight of cameras, and assaulted me. i managed to get away and tell my boyfriend at the time before he went to JEL, and when i told my parents they called the school and demanded a conference with a dean. the first thing the dean asked was "what were you wearing?"i was wearing pj's. PAJAMAS. sweats, a baggy shirt, a sports bra, and a jacket. i was on my period and sick because of it, and i was assaulted at the age of fifteen. i'm thankfully online schooled now. i don't know what would be happening to me in that school right now if i was still there.
You completely ignore that males have dress codes too. We can't wear cut off shirts, or shirts with necks too low. Why isn't there an outrage about males being told what to wear? Why only females?
+Mikki Thompson And what is "waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more revealing things?"
Tank tops? Well, seen a guy walking in muscle shirts? Thongs? NAKED???
***** Ah, but the point I wanted to make was that Laci said females have unfair dress code. So, do you see guys walking in with muscle shirt or thongs?
***** Sorry, I was trying to make a point. Females say that the dress was sexist I said that no male is allowed with muscle shirts or thongs.
At my school guys can wear muscle shirts, low cut shirts, tiny shorts, you name it and guys can wear it. If a guy has holes in his pants above the knee they have to cover it with clear tape, and a girl has holes in her jeans she gets detention, sent home, or have to cover it up with a massive amount of black electrical tape or duck tape. In all the years my school has been built there's most likely 2 at most men who have been dressed coded. Generally, the women are getting punished for their growing body's, but yes she did ignore it and I'm sure it was because it rarely ever happens.
+Minecraft with Duey because you rarely see boys wearing girl clothing.
LITERALLY GUYS AT MY SCHOOL WALK AROUND WITHOUT A SHIRT, AND NOBODY EVEN CARES. I WEAR LEGGINGS AND EVERY SINGLE TIME SOME ADMINISTRATOR WANTS TO STOP AND INTERROGATE ME ABOUT MY OUTFIT. MY TEACHERS TELL ME I "DONT LEAVE ENOUGH TO THE INAGINATION" OR SOME SHIT. WTF IM CONPLETELY COVERED IM WEARING LEGGINGS AND A SHIRT THAT GOES DOWN TO THE MIDDLE OF MY THIGHS WITH BOOTS THE ONLY THING EXPOSED IS MY NECK MY ARMS AND MY FACE WTFWTFWTFWTFWTHDHDND
+Techno Kitty They have it backward... You are leaving too much to the imagination. I encourage all girls to wear the shortest shorts or skirts you can find and as little clothing as possible. If someone doesn't want to see something they won't look. For anybody who finds it attractive it is an exercise in self control and more importantly a nice treat to have some skin to see once in a while.
honestly, I think there should be a dress code, for both genders, school is a place of learning and should be treated as such, much like a workplace has dress codes.
I call bullshit. In my school, guys sagging their pants get a zip tie on their waist. On top of that, we also aren't allowed to wear hats, sandals, shorts that aren't arm length, etc. Dress code targets both genders.
My sister couldn't go to class until someone brought her new clothes because her shorts with leggings underneath were too revealing. How is it okay to stop someone from learning because of what they're wearing? Especially when 9.5/10 times it's a girl.
Courtney Jackson Yes, because girls are not exempt from school rules like everybody else, deal with it.
Yet somehow boys aren't allowed to wear jogging pants and get away with it? That's the issue I have. Plus her wearing leggings underneath shorts had never been an issue before that day.
Courtney Jackson Have you considered that if it is 9.5/10 times its a girl that is because 95% of the time girls are breaking the rules and not guys? It is not sexist if you are breaking the rules and get called on it.
degen83 Why are the boys not called out on it then?
Courtney Jackson they are.
You had me and then you lost me, over and over again.
Typical Laci Green video.
nailin18 Where did she loose you?
At 2:14 she starts with the newspeak, but it's a little more ahead when she starts losing and then having me over and over again, some good points intertwined with doublethink, that's the issue.
nailin18 What exactly don't you understand? I don't mind helping to break things down for you, she does get into a few complicated issues that take a bit of time to fully comprehend :/
Micah MacCallum Oh, I understand just fine, I just start taking issue in many parts, when I say she lost me I mean she loses my support.
Girl: *wears short sleeve shirt*
Dress code: TOO MUCH SKIN! DETENTION!
I'm a boy and I'm gonna wear yoga pants. A-Ha!
Lol. A message is a message. Even if you don’t understand it. For instance, when people intend to have sex they get naked, right? So, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that if you’re attire is close to being naked then naturally people will be distracted into believing the half naked person is looking for sexual attention😂
I once had a cat...
And I still have it
Oh
+Josh “Engineer Engifar” Gundersonia Engineers eyes and ears :)
I love random comments
+Bill Eliseos that comment is more interesting then this video
+Bill Eliseos Hey go please watch my video on weird Girl Dress Code !! :)
There is a dress code at my school saying boys can't wear earrings, is that fair?
Absolutely not.
Taylor Zagorski
Surely if one sex is allowed to wear earnings and the other sex isn't that is unfair right?
The Amazing Apple It's not always girls that have the more restrictive dress codes, it's just more common. While earrings have been more traditionally worn by women through history, you're still right, it's not fair. Genders shouldn't be treated differently to each other in a dress code.
Kyle Butler Taylor was agreeing with you.
If girls are allowed and boys aren't that's sexist and uncool
School uniforms provide an elegant solution to this problem by removing fashion concerns from school life altogether. While it might not be ideal for every school, when designing a standard uniform you can work to make that standard convenient and without problems. Well-designed school uniform policies will allow girls and boys to wear comfortably cool clothing without any drama caused by the possibility of clothing designs considered inappropriate.
what the hell is up with the comment section on any of laci's videos?? it just people hating on her opinion and telling other people to kill themselves! im so done with this! if you disagree with her, then leave the video, don't leave insensitive comments! also this is not a place for judgement! laci is trying to show people about important issues! the comments should be about personal experiences you have with this topic so others and hear some more personalized stories and educated conversations, not telling someone to burn in hell because they shared an opinion. just wanted to get that off my chest...
+AerionFallen um that's what i said, i was saying how the comment section is a place where people should have educated conversation, but what actually happens is people judge others' opinions and tell people to kill themselves
+julia becker

"it's not a place for judgement!"
are you eff kidding me?! Her entire collection of videos are a judgement to all sorts of people. It doesn't hurt a bit if we judge her the same way she judges others (mostly males)
Boys at my school are aloud to take their shirt off at school when it gets too hot but girls are not aloud to wear short "revealing" skirts or shorts and we are not aloud to wear a singlet please help me idk what to do to protest I need ideas!!!
Make posters or something and put them all over the school or something.
Move to a better country?
Seriously, just make a recording of any and all comments about how you dress made by adults and then when you have enough such non-sense recorded, send it to all the 24hours medias, they are desperate for content.
If you are in one of those ridiculously "Christian" parts of the US, just go to school one day wearing a Burqa and see how they like that.
I wore whatever was comfortable for the season, and if any sort of adult informed me I was dressed "inappropriately", I just pointed at whatever random boy who was wearing less than I was and asked if he was going to also be yelled at.
Fortunately, at my school, my teachers didn't really care, and neither did our principal or first vice-principal. The second vice-principal was a bit more conservative and tried to even ban hugging. My friends' and my response? We started greeting each other with hugs every single time we ran into each other in the hallway.
The best way to protest a problem is to get a group of people to break the stupid rule, and refuse to change your clothing. Talk with your parents beforehand, so you have their support. That way if administrators contact your parents about your hooligan behaviors, your parents can respond, "Wait, you mean you interrupted my daughter's education because you have a problem with her dressing comfortably for the weather? That's not okay."
In high school, a boy was made to either change his shirt or go home for wearing a shirt that read "Buddha is the answer." My friends and I were livid, because you didn't see any kids wearing WWJD bracelets or cross necklaces being told to take them off or go home. We put on all our non-Christian religious gear and staged a walk-out. Some Christian friends joined us, as well. We had a few hundred students sign a petition. Had a good 100+ people standing on the front lawn of the school refusing to attend class until the administrators read the petition and agreed that everyone should be allowed to wear whatever religious item they chose as long as it didn't explicitly insult other religions.

What's a WWJD bracelets?
How can the dress code be enforced during gym or swimming class?
You can only wear certain clothes during the said activity. My school had lockers for extra clothes you had to wear
George Mayer I'm a little confused by what you are asking. Do you mean schools with gym uniforms or schools where you bring your own?
For swimming, I remember the rule was one pieces only. No bikinis.
George Mayer gym...long shorts and t-shirts that cover the shoulders. swimming...when for girls one piece suits...and, if they know about them, drag shorts...(short baggy swimming shorts)
When we had swimming in 8th grade, they separated boys and girls. First the girls had the pool and then the buss came, dropping the boys of, and the girls tok that buss back while the boys had swimming. I think the only reason they did this was because the whole class couldn't bee in the pool all at once though. Were I live there's no dress code so u can basically walk around naked, but of course nobody does that
YOU HAVE A SWIM CLASS!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I had a swim class
so many guys in the comment section getting butt hurt 😂
So right now it's summer break, so no more dress code! But today, someone told me that I was just trying to be provocative because I was wearing shorts, and let me tell you they weren't even that short! We've came to a point where our dress code from school makes us believe that seeing a girl's tight is bad and provocative, that we're only doing it for the attention!! The worst about it is that the moment that person told me that, a guy walked passed us SHIRTLESS because it was hot AF outside!!! Excuse me what?? This is how it works now??
my school has the lovely "no b's" rule. Meaning no back, belly, bras (and as our administrator said "not even those cute ones that are meant to look like tanktops") or bra straps, boobs and butt. But of course none of those rules apply to the poms uniforms or boys because obvi boys and cheerleaders are superior to us normal student girls
***** yeah obviously that's where the poms part comes in. Boys don't have any dress code. I've seen guys wearing jerseys with all the holes that are nearly see through. They've definitely showing their belly and back but they didn't get dress coded. This comment is mostly about the poms though.
MuffinMan888 last time I checked no one was playing sports in the middle of the school day; so there's not much need for "airing out" anything is there.
Rotem Steiner Yeah and there is nobody doing yoga in the middle of a school day either but girls still wear yoga pants.
MuffinMan888 exactly. Which is why yoga pants should be allowed if jerseys are
Rotem Steiner Jersey's aren't seen sexual in the slightest.
I personally think dress codes are stupid. I, a man, have not once seen a girl in shorts and been completely distracted that I could not complete work.
A whole bunch of guys at my school put skirts on and came to school in them and they got yelled at by the teacher...but the only reasons they put them on was because they where protesting against the fact that girls could wear skirts but they couldn't wear shorts
I think if it's something you would wear out shopping or just out for the afternoon, then it should be acceptable in school. Shorts, tank tops, crop tops, muscle tanks all that jazz, if it would be allowed in the mall then it should be allowed in school. Men and women should be held to the same standards if a guy can't wear tanks, neither can a girl. If guys are required to wear trousers, so are girls. Simple equality and comfortableness.
So I do agree that the "distraction" excuse is kind of annoying but there is another reason for these dress codes. The thing is that if a girl wears something slightly revealing to school and decides there is a particular male staff member she doesn't like she can target him and say he was checking her out and sexually harassing her even if he didn't even look at her. I know this probably sounds like an excuse but I've actually witnessed this happening. There was a group of girls in my seventh grade science class who didn't like the teacher because he was very strict on the no cell phones policy. He would take cell phones if you pulled them out and used them but he gave them back at the end of class. Of course heaven forbid you take a teenager's cellphone. So she decided to tell the office he was checking her out and that she was "way uncomfortable." If it weren't for how many students reported otherwise he would have lost his job and he was an amazing teacher. Teenage boys being distracted is not the only reason for dress codes. Also, most careers do not involve having your boobs hanging out and being able to see a girls ass cheeks. Schools want you to start learning what will be expected of you in an average workplace but they don't want to force a strict dress code because not everyone can afford it and they want students to have a sense of individuality. Honestly I feel like if this continues to be an issue we should just start doing uniforms in public schools so no one can complain that the dress code is sexist or anything like that.
Haha what happened to the girl who reported the teacher?
If I recall she got suspended and had to use a tracker sheet (teachers sign off that she was there and marked down her behavior and she turned it into the vice proncipal). I think her parents took her phone for awhile too.
+Alexis Bliss (Alex) Haha, did classmates bully her after this?
Haha nah a few of us made jokes behind her back but it was a rich kid school so everyone except the scene kids (including me at the time unfortunately haha) just kinda forgot about it. Her friends were butthurt that the lie didn't work so they were salty for awhile but not towards her or us. Just the teacher.
***** I agree and disagree. It would solve a lot of problems but there's not a huge way to regulate it. That's why you're just not supposed to have it out during class in most schools and most school rules say if a teacher sees it they take it and that's the furthest they can really go. Students here need to learn respect instead of this bullshit rebel or throw a temper tantrum whenever you don't get your way or do something you know isn't allowed attitude. And the thing is teaching your kids respect and discipline doesn't have to be hitting them or even threatening to. When I was growing up one day my mom took me to the juvenile detention center. She told me kids who break the law end up there and generally didn't end up back with their families. Scaring already delinquent kids into behaving doesn't usually work but showing younger kids the consequences of negative actions is usually a good thing. I also think that parents need to praise good behavior more often instead of just punishing bad behavior. I turn 18 in less than a month and everytime I do anything for my mom she says thank you. She's done it since I was little and when I was younger she would even occasionally buy me a candy bar or a doughnut or take me to see a movie or something every now and then as a thank you when I'd been helping out a lot. She also verbalized in a non yelling way when I did something wrong and explained why it was wrong. I think if parents learned to have better communication and discipline less shit like what happened in my school would happen.
My five points
1. Rules; Rules are Rules are RULES!
2. Equality; As a boy I can not go to school in any shirt that contains a hole, or pants with holes above the knees. I can not wear a cut-off. As an athlete I have a multitude of shirts that show off my shoulders, I would be asked to changed instantaneously.
3.Normal; It is not normal for boys to wear yoga-pants or tights to school. So as boys we don't cross the same lines as girls do. So to call it objectification of a singular gender is asinine
4. Inconsistency; In this world we can not be "fair" but we can be consistent. In my high-school the biggest problem is within some girls getting away with it, and some not. Some body figures are given the green light and some are forced to change. This will clear up a lot of problems
5. Rebellion, Girls purposefully by these clothes for themselves. The wear skin tight and sexually objectifying clothes for their own reason. However what we keep missing is that they should be getting in trouble for insubordination rather than dress code. If a male/female student continues to violate a rule (that is not the dress code) they will eventually be expelled. Why is dress code any different?
luv it lol thing is feminists only think about girls and only see wat they want to see because they are 2 stupid to realize that there equal and not better all feminists want to do is give themselfs more rights then guys ik because i have been to a couple of feminist gatherings im not one but i was invited and i disagree on their entire point of view they are just women that hate men
They shouldn’t tell the girls to change. They should tell the boys to keep it in their pants and focus on their school work
this is the subject i did a presentation on in health class. you go girl!
I hate how dress codes value men's education over women's right to feel comfortable
Amelia Webb lol bullshit
Actually I got in trouble multiple times not following the dress code
Amelia Webb well it is a school, pretty sure schools value education very highly over a girls right to wear really skimpy clothing
Amelia Webb I hate how feminists think male are "part of the problem", even males who were raped and attend anti rape rally's.
Stop seeing sexism when there is none. Stop using "sexism" as a crutch.
Amelia Webb And women's education as well because pulling us out of class is taking away from are class time.
I agree that it is absurd to dress uncomfortably just because its "distracting" but I think that it targets girls mainly because... how often do you see a guy come to school with short shorts or something really revealing? Like come on.
+Small Muda Also being attracted to a certain thing makes it sexist now? I guess I'm objectifying girls even though I am one.
+Nico Nico Wry shhhhhhh, stop using logic and pointing out a double standard, before they shame you and say you have "internalized misogyny".
+Nico Nico Wry Hey go please watch my video on weird Girl Dress Code !! :)
954.baby Shut the fuck up and stop trying to promote your shit on someone's video comments
+Creamy Nico "Shut the fuck up and stop trying to promote your shit one someone's video comments". LMFAO IM CRYING.
I went to a private, Catholic school from kindergarten to eighth grade. We had these kinds of rules talked about all the time. Skirts were not to be rolled, nor were the gym shorts. When free dress was allowed, shorts were not to be too short and clothes not too tight. School dances forbade dresses under a certain length and spaghetti straps. Basically, the dress code was really strict and even when one was allowed to dress in something other than the plaid skirts and polos, they were still subject to strict guidelines. Now, guys also had ur own rules. Our polos always had to be tucked in, socks had to be white, shorts were not to sag, etc. However, as a boy, I never felt that the girls were somehow sexual objects. Every time we were told that the girls were not to wear short, tight, revealing clothing, I just reasoned that the school was being prim. That they had a certain level of presentability that must be always be upheld. You were not to dress in a way, which was objectionable or risque. You were to look as a pure and innocent Catholic school child. It wasn't that girls were sexualized and distracting, it was that we had a specific image to uphold. It didn't stop us boys from finding the girls attractive. It just furthered the idea that we were in a school with a totalitarian regime and specific agenda. I do not think that dress codes or increased amount of regulation on girls mean that the system is sexist. Girls were always the ones rolling their skirts. Guys often had untucked shirts, but they were never the ones who caused issue about being too revealing. If guys had shown up in booty shorts, they would have received the same treatment. If chubbies had become a trend, then they would have been outlawed. But, it was always the girls, who pushed the boundaries on 'revealing'. Guys pushed boundaries on 'uniformity'. Unkempt hair, untucked shirts, socks too short, no belts.
At my school, NOBODY can wear shorts, tank tops, ripped jeans, etc. It’s not specific to just one gender. The dress code rules apply to all the students.
"There's a serious and life threatening epidemic going on in our schools"
YES DRESS CODES ARE SO LIFE THREATENING AND OPPRESSIVE THAT YOU CAN'T EVEN DISRESPECT SCHOOL'S POLICIES ON LOOKING PROFESSIONAL. smh.
Mad Brah You didn't watch the video. She's not saying the dress codes themselves are the problem, she's saying that specifically targeting girls is the problem. It's not right when you overwhelmingly punish girls and not boys for violating the dress code. If a school wants a dress code, that's fine, but they should apply it and enforce it equally for both girls and boys, and that doesn't always happen. By the way, the quote, "There's a serious and life threatening epidemic going on in our schools" was a sarcastic quote that summarized what people in charge of and that support school dress codes generally feel about girls wearing whatever they want (where apparently that alone is enough to completely distract the boys from their educators entirely, regardless of the fact that boys (and girls) should take responsibility for their wandering eyes and pay attention in class).
Emma us guys have the same rules and girls do, we cant where excesivly short shorts or reveal our shoulders during school. the difference is girls break these rules more often than guys do
+josh stover the difference is girls' shoulders and thighs are hyper sexualized, and yet for some reason nobody gives a flying fuck about guys' shoulders and thighs
She was parodying a teacher
She was joking when she said that
Even though I don't agree with some things in this video, I would like to start off by saying that I 100% respect your opinion and you were so informative on your video! For me, I have always agreed with dress code. I'm wondering ladies, when is something considered immodest for you? In my opinion, yoga pants/leggings are very immodest because you can see the entire shape of a woman's lower body. The only difference between being naked and wearing leggings is the color. Yoga pants are supposed to be for yoga and at this point they aren't used for that anymore. If you told me that you didn't think they are tight, I wouldn't believe you. When it comes to tank tops, in a lot of schools boys aren't allowed to wear them as well. It's not because "OMG A SHOULDER IS SEXUAL". It's because some tank tops show more than others, including cleavage and some are cut down the sides. It just seems like there is no such thing as immodesty or too much skin showing anymore, it's just if a girl wears it, it shouldn't be considered that. I went to a school where your uniform skirt had to be below your knees, girls were never allowed to wear pants, no cleavage, no shoulders, etc and no one ever had a problem with it and I never felt objectified sexually.
Sorry to spam your videos before really getting a feel for your channel. I dig it though. Keep doing your thing.
one time I was dress coded for wearing a pair of running shorts that were 100% long enough to be in dress code and they made me go change and when I came back to class I had no idea what was happening because I had missed some of the stuff while I was changing. it made me so angry bc they're literally putting my clothes before my education and that's not ok in any way
Ooooh this one hits home. It's like my education should be interrupted over this because it's not as important as the boys.
According to my school I need to dress a certain way in order to gain the boys respect when I should have it anyways.
Thank you for this, I have been pulled out of class for my shoulders, bra straps, my back, and thighs showing. Many times during tests. I have wanted to stand up for myself, but was too embarrassed at the situation, and my classmates judging me to do so. I cried during this video, because of how angry I am at society. I feel helpless. This year, my English teacher, who happened to be my favorite teacher, told me my shoulders were "not okay.". It was my last period of the day, and I had not been asked by any of my other 5 teachers, to hide my shoulders. So I am pretty sure my shoulders were, "okay.". I lost respect for my teacher, and my school. She told my friend Ella that her bra straps were distracting the next day. I was disgusted greatly, and want to stand up for my wrongfully, harassed friend. I regretfully did nothing. Just as I was somehow gaining my respect for my teacher again, she asked me to pull up my shirt. I did nothing. You have inspired me to speak up. Thank you.
Thank you for posting this!
I got sent home once for wearing a dress over leggings. The dress was too short, so that's why I put black leggings under it. You could not see anything, everything was covered, and there is nothing specifically stated in the dress code saying I couldn't wearing leggings under dresses. My principal told me a classmate of mine complained that my leggings were too tight, and told my teacher, so she sent me to the principal. Then, the principal told me that if I put pants under the dress, it would be fine. Okay, SO WHAT THE HELL IS THE DIFFERENCE? I couldn't call my parents because they were both at work, so no one could come and bring me clothes to change, so my principal sent me home. Must humiliating thing that ever happened to me, and I thank my lucky stars every day that I'm not in high school anymore.
Another issue with this is the unspoken dress code for male and transgender students. My male friend, proud of his Scottish heritage, wore a full dress kilt to prom and was denied entrance because the administration claimed his choice of dress was not appropriate formal attire for prom, and the following year when handing out the school dress code "male students must wear pants or shorts only" had been added. This also caused issues for my transgender (M>F) friend who began transitioning over the summer and chose to wear feminine clothes upon returning to school in the fall, and was given the choice to either change and cut her hair back to a "male" haircut, or leave school until she was willing to do so, as her enrollment paperwork had her listed as male and thus she was held to the male dress code (mind you, her clothes were completely in compliance with the dress code rules aimed at females).
Oh my goodness!! That's terrible! I seriously hope her parents pulled her out of that school!
Her parents were pretty much a nonentity in her life, so she had to make the very painful decision to continue living as a male during school hours for her last year of high school; however, there were some great teachers who respected her and used female pronouns, etc, and everyone in our friend group always used female pronouns, so she said that helped. Additionally she found that she liked wearing skinny jeans, and the administration didn't have a problem with skinny jeans on males, so she primarily wore those and shirts that felt more feminine but still were "masculine enough" to appease the administration. But yeah, transphobia is another issue lurking in dress codes that needs to be addressed, especially in places where they're so transphobic that they won't allow traditional cultural dress for males unless it involves pants.
Dude, that sucks.
"Hey dude! Your pants are too tight and I can see your junk. And it's distracting girls!"
"What? No they aren't."
"You're right, they aren't. But simply because you have a junk, you'll be persecuted."
+Random speaker Everyone is equal right? Everyone have's is even worse
Why is a penis called junk? People are calling he male genitals junk like rubbish (trash) IT'S PENIS-IST....Sorry I had to make one bad joke in this comment section,
+SamIsAnOkwerdLion IT'S THE MATRIARCHY KEEPING US DOWN
+SamIsAnOkwerdLion womens ass have junk
At my school in the winter time last year, I know boys who were annoyed with underdressed girls because they were complaining about the cold while wearing little to nothing.
The reason school systems have these rules is because some girls (not all) dont dress properly to go to school. Last year at my school a girl wore a almost transparent shirt and very short shorts. She was sent home and suspended for the week. And i mean why do you have to wear super short shorts or tights. Wear a shirt and some jeans.
