Honestly, on my last day of school, I wore a tank top with lacy straps, and shorts that reached past my mid-thighs. I don't normally dress like that, but I did and no teacher said a word. I guess it depends if you look sexual or not, because I am in no way a sexual looking girl. XD
If dress codes are so specific, or vague given some circumstances, why can't they just go with a uniform. Like, "wear only light blue polos and khaki pants" instead of all this measuring garbage?

I’m English and my secondary school has uniforms but apart from the jumper you have to buy it individually and we have a sixth form (which I am in) which has a dress code. One of the schools leadership team (a teacher) said girls have to dress like this because it is distracting for the teachers. Not the teenage boys the teachers

Dress codes actually there to try and help you for when you're older and have a job. If you're a pediatrician, you probably wouldn't come to work in booty shorts and a spaghetti strap tank top. However, a lot of schools (based on my experience) tend to not take the dress code seriously or if you do get sent to the nurse to change, they use the excuse of a girl being too distracting to boys. Anyways, that's just my thoughts :/

Honestly what's the issue high schools are trying to fix? My high school actually had a seminar for the female students basically telling the larger girls that the dress code is for them, that they can't wear what the smaller girls could. It was humiliating and totally unfair, the Boys just watched a movie. As far as I'm concerned as long as everyone is atleast covering up what Wonder Woman covers up then we're good.

At my school, girls can't wear shirts that reveal your chest below your collar bones, shorts (are they even shorts now?) can't be more than a dollar bill away from the knee (aka the length of the shortest part), nothing that exposes the tummy at all, no backless shirts, profanity, no tank tops (whole shoulder must be covered), no distracting contacts, hair colors, or flashy jewelry. But guys can wear shorts and muscle tanks and shirts that say "shut up and make me a sandwhich". Did I mention I live in central Arkansas? Humid capital?
Oh, and your bra strap can't show or a heavy outline, and you get sent home if the color shows through any. No rips in your jeans above the knee, or flip flops.

+Mady Powell I think it's kind of a two way street. If we're gonna teach boys not to view girls as sexual objects, then we have to teach girls to not appear as sexualized objects. Not to say that all girls should go around in nun garbs, but boys (especially the younger ones, who are just starting to notice "things") are almost immediately sidetracked by exposed flesh such as legs, bellies, to say nothing of swimsuits.

At my school during spirit week there was one day that was "gender swap", so you could dress as a gender other than your own. Most of the boys at my school either came to school wearing crop tops or booty shorts, and one boy was literally just wearing a bra. None of the teachers cared at all, and some of them thought their outfits were funny. But when us girls wear shorts where you can see part of our thighs, nope, that's not appropriate. Here's a really simple guideline that every school can follow without much incident
For Girls: don't expose anything you wouldn't expose in a two-piece bikini.
For Boys: don't expose anything you wouldn't expose in a typical bathing suit.
Now, this is not perfect, I get it, but I honestly think that teenagers can tell when they are too hot or too cold. Besides, this way we can punish bad behaviour, and not the outfits students happen to be wearing.

I go to a private high school. today, because there was testing, for gym all the girls had to change but the boys could stay in their regular uniforms to go outside and just do whatever on the turf. Also, my friend on the soccer team mentioned that they are not allowed to wear just a sports and shorts for practice, but on the boys soccer team, THEY ALL PRACTICE WITHOUT THEIR SHIRTS BECAUSE ITS SO HOT. it can be 90 degrees and the boys have no shirts but the girls have to keep them on..... Also the girls get dress coded for everything. The rule is no skirt shorter than two inches above the knee but this 5'10 girl was standing next to me and she got dress coded even though she is so tall that they don't even make skirts that long for my uniform!

literally all the clothes she was wearing break my schools dress code by literally everything. i get dress coded almost every day, i live in Utah, and my principal is so "prude" i guess and cant handle bodies.
