Took a full blood test 9/22. Numbers not good. I started my Keto/Carnivore lifestyle. It was amazingly easy. I wasn't hungry. On 11/1/22 I checked my bloodwork. Everything is in check!! Its a miracle healing to me 🙏🏻 And I am down 14lbs! With my thyroid being removed, losing weight has been almost impossible. Not now, living the Keto/Carve lifestyle is the best for me. Dr berry has helped me get in the best shape of my life. I used to eat a good amount of fruit. I used to be bloated and my weight was stuck at 185. After listening to this great doctor I've lost another 20. I'm 41 now and I have more abs now than when I used to workout everyday in my 20s and I hardly work on my abs now. It's absolutely incredible. 💯

It's a an empty statement like: the team that scores the most points will win. We're all trying to find the truth. Admittedly, I don't know if carbs from fruit are optimal compared to 100% carnivore. It's hotly debated.
I live in an Eskimo village in Alaska. I can look back and see exactly the diet that was here for the natives and there is no fruit or honey at all not even vegetables other than a few greens in the spring and short summers. They were primarily carnivores and survived very harsh winters and environment and lived healthy.
Fruit use to be limited to two servings a day. A large apple would be shared. Tomatoe was considered a fruit serving. It was also seasonal for the most part. Now people put 10 servings of fruit in a blender and add sugar or honey. That is breakfast. I still eat fruit, but not daily. I like to have some clementine at Christmas. I forage for blueberries in the summer. I have a little homemade apples on my pork on occasion. I have homemade, keto friendly cramberry sauce with turkey. But I consider fruit a treat. Not a daily food.
I really think we fail to grasp how much work would go into attaining even a small amount of fruit. We have abundant fruit & nut producing plants on our property. But the wildlife all know it's here & have a knack for getting it the day before we would. Our ancestors might have put in the work to get a little, but as mentioned, it would've been a rare treat. It wouldn't have been pounds of super sweet fruit in a sitting.
Also keep in mind domesticated fruit sold at grocery stores are adulterated and genetically different from their counterparts in the wild. A wild apple tastes NOTHING like a grocery store apple. It’s less than half as sweet, and is TINY.
@@CC86CA Yes, most people have no idea how adulterated our food is. Most vegetables come from one plant that was engineered by scientists to create a whole other plant. When I found that out I didn't quit eating them. With the carnivore diet I feel confident that it is what the body really needs for optimum performance and have dropped all plant foods, as a new carnivore dieter.
@@herbbowler2461 That's what I do. I eat fruit only occasionally and chicken meat maybe twice a week at the most, and red meat as a treat. It all comes down to being sensible and keeping all things in moderation.
I literally just finished reading five articles, by medical professionals, claiming that my carnivore regimen (I refuse to call it a "diet") is making me more susceptible to developing breast cancer and/or other types of cancer, and that reducing or eliminating meat consumption and focusing on eating fruits and vegetables is the ONLY healthy alternative. I was actually considering adding some fruit UNTIL I found this video, even though I avoid fructose due to its confirmed association with dementia and my general carb aversion. As I have nothing but the utmost respect and faith in the info you share, I will stay the path with carnivore. I've lost over 50 lbs; am one of the only senior-aged women I know who is not obese; and have had my hypothyroid medication cut by more than half, all in the last two years. Thank you so much for being such a valued and dedicated resource! Though I'm definitely done with fruit, you're the one "Berry" I refuse to do without!🙏❤😉
In June 2018 after watching Gary Fettke’s video “Is Fruit Good or Bad For You?”, I did my first Diet Elimination Trial in which I stopped eating fruit. Within 2 months I had dropped 35 pounds and was feeling amazing! Turns out “wholesome, natural” fruit was the biggest driver of my prior obesity and painfully arthritic knees and lower back. I eventually lost another 35 pounds as I progressed to become the very healthy low meal frequency carnivore I remain today. Despite Paul Saladino’s recommendations, I had zero intention of adding fruits and honey to my diet given my previous negative experience. This important finding Dr. Berry presents in this video gives me even more reason to continue on this path that has been working so well at keeping me far healthier at age 57 than I ever was the rest of my life.
um aren't fruits rich in vitamins - more so than vegetables? where are you going to get your vitamin c? from supplements? better off getting it from foods. but I see what you mean cuz american food is gmo-heavy, full of pesticide or antibiotics.

I checked some of the studies you linked (not all) and the tests used fructose in isolation, not as a complete food like honey or fruit like a banana. So you can not draw the conclusion that fructose in fruit causes glycation. Fructose in isolation seems to cause this problem, but not in fruit as a complete package as other studies have definitively proven there is a difference between a complete fruit/food and fructose, lactose, or sucrose in isolation. I am hesitant to demonize fruit, milk, and honey these days as after 12 years of keto and IF (including carnivore) I ruined my electrolyte system in my body - I couldn't retain electrolytes and supplementation didn't help. My heart was pounding non-stop for 3 months and it drove me crazy - though specialists and doctors said my heart physically was fine. It would sometimes pound so hard that I got jitters and felt very unwell. I reintroduced fruit after 12 years - just 1 fruit with each meal, and stopped fasting and I was feeling better on day 1 and completely recovered in a week. Will the fruit make me fat? No idea, maybe, time will tell. I'll check my bloods in 90 days. But definitely feeling much better. YMMV 🖖
@@veniqer yes, but delivery mechanism is different. And this makes a difference. Fructose in fruit is fine, and, if anything, has a positive impact on health. Plenty of studies show this in humans and animals and if you watch Paul’s video he will list some examples.
High insulin levels prevent the kidneys from secreting electrolytes. This can cause high blood pressure when electrolytes are also high. There's a very well known recommendation on keto/carnivore to get plenty of salt and electrolytes because our RDA is grossly underestimated when we don't have chronic hyperinsulinemia.
@@mikafoxx2717 I get that, but I had the same issue as Paul Saldino, after two months of strict carnivore (so zero carbs) and a decade of IF/Keto (with weekly cheat days) my body could not retain electrolytes. I ended up dosing myself with very high/dangerous levels of them to no avail. Your body ends up just dumping electrolytes, it can't retain them, which leads to severe heart palpitations (though I wasn't hospitalised others have been). As soon as I added fruit into my diet - just 1 with each meal, and cut out fasting entirely, my heart calmed down immediately and I was fully recovered after about a month. More recently studies show that insulin reaction is critical to the electrolyte cycle of the body, and, if you go for long periods one zero carb (so no insulin reaction) you will crash your electrolyte system. Surprisingly, after 3 months of the "animal based diet" with all its fruits and honey I have not gained any weight but feel much better. I think the thing that kept me going, in retrospect, so long on keto and IF were the cheat days. As soon as they were eliminated I got this issue. No idea if its a specific to my genetics or specific to people of Mediterranean descent (Paul Saldino is Italian) or what, but keto is untenable for us long term, or that the carnivore people are actually cheating just enough to get by (and I Just mean they are getting carbs somehow) but, I wouldn't wish what I had on anyone. /shrugh, YMMV.
@@solomani-42 what I've heard, is that you need to up your protien dose and have a good sized meal so you get an insulin response. Also a possibility is that you were drinking too much water as well. I think one of the issues is that people think you need to constantly be in ketosis and dare not get kicked out, but when in reality things like fish and most meat has plenty of protein compared to fat, closer to 50/50 or less. The people eating 80% or more calories by fat to stay deep in ketosis and eating several meals to not spike insulin via the protein may be doing themselves a disservice. There's also the possibility of genetics. Those of some genetics that trended north interbred with Neanderthals ~65,000 years ago, which gave them a better ability to deal with cold among other things. Perhaps they kind of differences change how people react to all carnivorous eating. The Inuit seem to have done fine for hundreds of generations. I do believe that sugar isn't good for us however, nor a daily occurrence. I'm outdoorsy and I know the local wild fruit and for the few months it exists a year, you'd have to spend all day picking and eating to gain weight. The locals are fish and cervids mostly, which have higher protein to fat ratios than what most peddle for keto/carnivore. Perhaps it's that we need to fat adapt firstly before allowing protein load to be increased.
Dr Ken, you were the initial person/expert who I watched and made the decision to go carnivore back in June of this year. It only took a few months for major changes to start happening, and they are continuing to get better and better. Family and friends are amazed, some are making the leap to a PHDiet based on my results. I was overweight and out of shape and very depressed. In fact, it was your video with Dr Palmer that made me decide to go full bore carnivore, immediately, rather than wait another day, week or longer. So glad I did the results are amazing!!! I'm a true believer now and hope any others maybe still on the fence give it a try - truly a miracle way of life! Thank you
@@mctow8554 I always suggest looking up any food on google and finding out from there how high (or low) the carb count is of any food you are thinking about eating. If it's high carb, you really do not need it...some foods you may be able to get away with eating a much smaller amount though...but rice for one is generally high carb.

I live in Istanbul Turkey, which means I have zero chance of getting a medical exam by Dr.Berry. However, his book "Lies My Doctor Told Me" has helped me more than any doctor I've seen face-to-face. In my opinion, Dr. Berry reminds us of an important forgotten value, "honesty". We just do not need more charlatans but doctors as Dr.Berry.
Be sure to learn what you can about lab tests, how to get the ones you feel you need (or if you just want some the information for a baseline you can track future results against.) The "Common Sense Labs" book is out, but Dr Berry talks about different tests in so many videos
Hey Dr Berry. As someone who was having hormonal issues on the carnivore diet with things like elevated cortisol and lower testosterone. I think you should cover these topics more often. I started carnivore last year because of autoimmune and overall health issues. Not because I was fat. I feel like most of your advice is directed towards overweight people which is fine but what about the rest of us who aren’t overweight but have chronic health issues? I had diarrhea the entire time I was on carnivore and it never cleared up until I started eating fruit again. This isn’t a sugar craving or an excuse to eat other things. I actually enjoyed eating 100% animal products. Can you answer this for people like myself that had issues on carnivore? It would be much appreciated
There is no one size fits all diet. I see nothing wrong with adding fruits like berries to your carnivore diet, especially if it helps with diarrhea. I am 3 weeks into my first 30 day carnivore diet and I have already lost 15 pounds. After 30 days I plan to return to a well balanced diet, while eliminating processed foods and processed sugar. - Dave
Diarrhea is not bad . Usually clears up in a few weeks . If not it means you were eating too much fat.. That fruit is going to do a lot of damage to your body .

If I consume 200 grams of fat In one meal I will immediately be running to the bathroom. If I consume 70 grams of fat Per meal I have zero diarrhea. Diarrhea is not bad, is not painful . Diarrhea is just you wasting your money. Wasting fat. It can take a month to develop the enzymes to digest large amounts of fat
Oh boy this answers a lot for me. I used to eat fruit and honey until going carnivore in October. I have huge health problems and massive amounts of inflammation but the majority of time my A1c was great. Thanks for all that you do.

Yes, fruit and honey just aren’t as nutrient dense, so not optimal nutrition compared with meat-/animal-based products. Honey is insect-based, an inferior food source for humans who have a choice about what they fuel their bodies with!
It's known just not spoken about for so many reasons most people don't realize that the medical world raised the fasting insulin up 13 points to normalize higher readings as normal. Trust me they know.
When I started eating cherries for pain in my elbow, it was numb the next morning, and gone the day after that, never to return, probably because I caught it at an early stage. Other joints have been helped by cherries, an old treatment for arthritis. Fresh cherries are not really that sweet though.
This is brilliant. So now we know why somebody can have a normal or slightly impaired a1c, but extensive atherosclerosis. The fructose damage is not measured in a1c, so the lipid damage is also not only not measured, but not even proxied for by the a1c.

@@gmailaccount-liamcousins9932 Certainly, however everything has a limitation and as someone mentioned foods being seasonal one would not consume the quantities that we are today. If we stayed in the daily allotment that the body can tolerate it does not cause this issue. But today people consume far more fructose than the body can deal with whether from too much fruit and juice or from other means. You do not see this issue so much with vegetables that do not have higher fructose levels. Fructose can not be blunted so it affects the body differently than sucrose does. Hence why we need to pay attention to all three tests fasting insulin, glucose and A1c but we have raised the range of normal insulin levels to higher levels normalizing what we are seeing, the range was raised about 6 years ago I feel because someone knows the truth. The fiber does not blunt fructose as much as it does sucrose therefore higher levels of fructose is more damaging. No one is saying not to have it but keep in proper limits.

Holy cow! My health problem makes so much more sense now. Inflammation but excellent a1c and excellent blood pressure. Been on carnivore since June 2022. No more inflammation and no meds or problems now.
@@VidNibs Inflammation is caused by carbs, sugar, seed oils, and anti nutrients in plants. I eat meat mostly - bacon, eggs, steak, a little bit of cheese. Sometimes chicken or other meats.

Thank-you Dr Ken. Fructose is ten times more glycating than glucose, and we have no way of measuring that damage. That doesn’t fit into my health plan. The elevated view of the perceived wholesomeness of “fruits&vegatables” is leading us down a road that is not healthy. Thank-you !

Is it the carnivore diet or the fact when you went on this diet, you stopped eating all the things you shouldn't? As an 80 year old, I just had my blood work checked last month and it's still perfect including cholesterol levels. Just a healthly balanced diet, exercise, and my vities. No medications.
@@sharsue5596 Going carnivore is stopping eating the things you shouldn't. A lot of people who watch this channel and start carnivore do it after having already cleared out the obvious junk but are still not seeing optimal health. It's once they clear out the junk that people tell them is "healthy" that they start to really improve. You say "healthy balanced diet". That's a phrase you have been taught to use, and is not based on any actual science. My late grandmother remembered coming in (she passed 5 years ago, age 89). I'm glad you are healthy at 80, I've seen plenty of health conscious 70+s with metabolic issues, but follow a "healthy balanced diet" because that's what they were told to do. It may work for you, but for most people, it really doesn't.
Dr Berry, thanks for all you do. I was wondering where your data about the content of honey comes from? My understanding was honey was low in fructose and mostly sucrose/glucose. My grandfather (a beekeeper born1896) swore by honey and consumed quantities of it daily. Was never sick a day in his life, never went to a hospital a day in his life (kids were all born at home-he said hospitals are were people go to die! how prescient in the era of Covid!). He lived to 93 working every day until the day of his death (which ultimately was from lung cancer as he was a leather worker/shoe maker as well (inhaled a lot of nasty solvents/mercury I am sure, and smoked a pipe regularly for 75+ yrs). All in all if I make it to 93 and still active and strong as he was, I won't be complaining.
I used to have honey often, until I learned that it had so much fructose. I gave up fruits and honey ,but I still consume candy bars , I'm trying to not eat those things. Food unlike people can be way less problematic. It's like a hostile individual we have to deescalate a situation. Sugar kills
@@lisashapiro4714 eat some butter if you tolerate it and that will help with sugar cravings...or it does me...type 1 diabetic I just had to eat a little extra butter yesterday because I had a craving for sugar. Tallow, Lard also...I have boiled a couple eggs and put bacon grease on them to get over the craving...hope this helped...keep going you will be the sugar addiction!!
Thank you Dr. Berry. You just confirmed my intuition. I was carnivore for 2 years and decided to add fruit and honey on recommendations from another carnivore MD and my health and training performance went downhill. I've dropped them from my diet and I'm I'm back to being well. Also I noticed the faces of the high carb proponents is weathering at an accelerated rate.

I'm down 50 pounds since watching your video on Triple B&E. I decided to do it for a month and just see what it was like. My sleep normalized, I stopped snoring. Pain is non-existent for me now as well, and I had chronic back pain from a car accident and surgery to correct it in 2018 (it didn't). I planned on doing Triple B&E from 9/21 to 10/21, lost 36 lbs through the diet change alone during that period (no exercise). I've just kept going because I feel completely different, physically, emotionally, mentally. So wild. For December, I've added in weight lifting to see how the nutrition change with exercise works out. So strange to not be extremely sore after lifting decently heavy weights. This nutrition info is life changing. Thanks Doc!
as someone that eats a lot of fruit and uses honey quite abit, this is very eye opening and i know that many years ago when i went on a diet of just meat and veggies my body changed drastically with weight loss and i felt great but when my wife kept complainging about how different i looked i went back to eating the usual diet to put some weight back on and it has never been the same since then, being single and in my 70s i will be finishing up what ever fruit i have and cutting out a lot of stuff and going basically meat and veggies again. tooooooooo much coffee and fuit smoothies that have contributed to my health issues
Why on earth would a wife complain that you are getting healthier, feeling better, and looking better? She should have been proud of you. It's never too late to change...so good for you for working towards a healthier you again. And the coffee, it's awful for the adrenal glands anyway. When I hear people say they cut out coffee and had horrible headaches....that right there tells you coffee isn't good for your body. At that point, it's an addiction that the body doesn't need. LOTS of people in the health world today cutting out the caffeine...and it's been so much better for their health.

Although I keep my fruit consumption to small servings scattered throughout the week and limited to berries, it has me considering dropping the frequency or entirely eliminating except for rare special occasions. My HA1c has dropped from 7 to 6.1 over the last year. It has my doctor thrilled. I’ll take that with a smile and eye roll-she also informed me that all white cheese has no fat and can be consumed as much as desired and that only yellow cheese has fats. I didn’t bother to tell her the yellow comes from beta carotene not fat. Figured I would be pissing in the wind.

@@muchasalud2011 oh she most definitely is! I’ve moved and that was my last visit with her, simply for the renewal for a couple scripts and management of my labs at that point. I was excited for my a1c because I knew what I’d been doing and that I’d have a great result. I believe my a1c came down slower simply because I’d been diabetic for about 4 years and the body has a hard time changing what it’s been accustomed to but certainly removing fruit is worth a trial.
Why do people go back to see obviously stupid doctors? That will bite you in the butt one day, trust me. I've been harmed by doctors , and lost loved ones to their stupidity. That's a sign to find a new one.

Had a CT scan a couple of months ago that revealed fat on my liver. It didn't get diagnosed as NAFLD, but I know that that's what fat on my liver means. From all the smoothies over years. Not much one for alcohol, so it's from fruit. I have been being a strict carnivore for about 12 weeks. Next time I have a CT scan I'm going to ask them to take a peek and see if my liver has cleared up from the fat deposit. Seems kind of shocking that fruit could be detrimental to one's health. But when you consider that we absolutely did not evolve with any of the fruits that we are eating today, especially not consumed daily, in multitudes, it becomes not surprising that it is problematic for our physiology. Good thing meat and fat are so tasty! I really don't miss sweet things.
You don't need a CT scan you can have an ultrasound of the liver to check for fatty liver. I'd have another scan in 6 months and see where you are, talk to your doctor.
@@muchasalud2011 that's not the point, the point is the person needs to talk to their doctor about fatty liver disease and have their doctor recognize the issue and keep track of how the liver is doing, liver enzyme tests for one to test it's functioning. I have a fatty liver and keep a close eye on it as I go through carnivore dieting.
So my question is, what is “a lot” of fruit and honey? I’m a very active, 6ft 210lbs 44 year old carpenter, manual labor and exercise every day. I eat a Whole Foods diet of meat and leaves and some fruit. I have a apple with my egg yolks and avocado for breakfast, maybe a few handfuls of berries (raspberries, blueberries and blackberries) with my dinner (steak,salmon,beef ribs, hammer in daily rotation) and about a half a teaspoon of honey with my chamomile tea in the evening. It seems we are in the infancy of truly understanding what healthy IS, thank you for taking us along in your evolution.

All the studies quoted are based on extracted, isolated fructose. Fructose in whole food complex does not affect body in the same way. Also, mice handle fructose poorly physiologically so results would not replicate in humans.

Thank you very much, Dr Berry. I'm surprised that this information hasn't been made known more widely. Having said that, the medical system and research is heavily biased towards making money and not towards the promotion of health.
I have diabetes type 2,I take all the new drugs, still my sugar is not going down,after talking to my endocrinologist,he asked how much fruit I eat,I was honest I love fruit,I would eat 4-5 pieces of fruit like the guidelines mention,my doctor explained to me that being diabetic I should try and stop eating fruit and go on a fructose free diet.i was surprised we were told how healthy fruit is and filled with vitamins. I have started my fructose free diet this week, very eager to see the changes.
A vegetarian friend of ours eats a LOT of fruit: smoothies and juices mostly. He became diabetic but insisted to his doctor that he didn't have any white sugar in his diet! His doctor had to point out that he has a very high sugar diet, and the fact these sugars are 'natural' doesn't matter. I can't believe he couldn't figure this out for himself.
As always, great information delivered by a medical physician known to all of us as Ken D. Berry, MD. Really kicks those in the shorts that sell fructose as being safe. It should be illegal to add sugar in any form to foods when people can add it themselves if they want it and all they get with it. Thank you doctor! Be well.
I am very happy that you made this video. It opened my eyes. The problem is that family doctors are not aware of fructose and the damage it creates. On the other hand, they encourage the consumption of fruit from the age of 0.👍

I know and understand what your saying, I have lost 35 lbs eating carnivore, but giving up Honey every morning I am now suffering with all the allergies that I had before. Went to doctor twice for sinus infection. He recommended Zyrtec but not as good as the honey was doing.🤷♂️
I was amazed when I first watched this. I don't eat honey or fruit but I know a bunch of my carnivore FB friends do. I'm hoping they see this. Some of our best-known Carnivore influencers are recommending fruit and honey!
Thanks, Dr. Berry. I had to leave the fruit and honey behind, mostly because they were refusing to leave my behind behind (if you follow my meaning). Your video today makes me aware of how big the gaps in our understanding still are. I also wonder how badly glycated some of our guru friends out there might be.
Dr. Berry, Thanks for the eye opener! Wish I had known this 20 years back. I am a long term diabetic who has changed his lifestyle significantly over the last 7-8 years. I am down to a HbA1C of 6.2 and I hope to pull it down to early 5s in due course of time. I used to consume significant quantity of fruits for 'health reasons' a long time back - I stick to occasional berries now. This revelation has made me somewhat wary and reevaluate the changes I have made in my diet!
The saddest thing is that it's obvious, just look at pictures of him over the last 2 years, he aged 10 years in that time while Dr Berry only looks younger. Sure it's not scientific evidence but it's a big enough hint that something is amiss.
Yet I reversed diabetes eating mostly fruit. The look on my Drs face when I told him I was eating bananas and mangoes after he announced I no longer need meds. 3 years later I'm slim, energetic, healthy, have great blood work, lowered cholesterol. Agreed. We’re all human yet all have unique needs. I eat fruit and honey as I was losing too much weight on only meat and dairy. Now I feel so much better, and the weight loss has stopped. I’m super active as housecleaner, so I may just need it.
The key word in there is you mentioned you were thin. You can eat fruit as long as you are not gaining weight thereby using the fruit sugar as energy and not storing it. Any diet will work as long as you are not on a calorie surplus. That being said, you would probably be healthier if you avoided the fruit and ate more fats and protein instead. Your insulin levels were much higher eating all that fruit
I realized early on in this adventure that any kind of fruit was terrible for my reactive hypoglycaemia. However the absolute worst thing I can have is honey. Being that I understand that I don't eat any and haven't for years. It's not hard to do.
My wife and I were in great health. But when we started to listen to Dr. Berry about the Carnivore Diet, we thought we give it a good try because we're always willing to learn. We were perfect weight when we started, but started to lose weight we couldn't afford to lose. I lost 18 pounds of muscle which made me lose my strength. My wife also lost quite a bit of muscle. My heart was no longer beating regularly because my electrolytes were too low. We ate plenty of salt, butter and even Dr. Berry's electrolytes, but our health continued to decline. We also lost a lot of our hair. I could tell my testosterone had went way down. I told my wife we had to quit this. This diet was killing us. That's when we found Dr. Paul Saladino and added fresh fruits and raw honey to our diet, along with the grass fed beef we were already eating. Our health began to turn around and we started to feel better immediately. Over the next several months, we got our muscle back and our hair grew back in. I also got my testosterone back. But the thing I wasn't expecting was, I could do the splits! I haven't been able to do the splits in decades. I'm more limber now than I've ever been. I believe this is due to the raw honey. I discovered a researcher that studied and lived among a tribe called the Honey Shepherds. They walk many miles every day looking for trees to climb to gather their honey. They lick it off their hands and arms while they gather it and their diet consists of mostly honey. He noticed how heathy this tribe was. But what impressed him most was how limber and flexible they were. He believes it is because of the raw honey. He discovered several people that are serious Yoga people that swear by raw honey to make them flexible. I am a believer now!
This story is atypical than what most people report. OP should be doing some resistance training regardless of his diet. If it works to eat honey and fruit then fine. Not the case for many people. I don’t eat honey. I do eat a few berries-covered in heavy whipping cream.
Fructose is not kryptonite (nor are we Superman). In fact, there are enzymes in the body specifically for the purpose of converting glucose into fructose. Also, the liver is not constrained in metabolising fructose, as it is with glucose, so that metabolism occurs relatively rapidly. And glucose is one of the principal end products. The author of the cited paper refers to premetabolic production of AGEs in the gut due to dietary fructose. No mention is made of how these are then able to somehow escape the fate of other unneeded substances in that location. There is no lack of evidence for the other ill-effects of excess fructose consumption -- NAFLD, elevated triglycerides, metabolic syndrome risk, etc. But the "hidden" risk of tissue and organ damage due to fructose-induced AGEs seems to be lacking substantiation (and just because it's hard to measure doesn't mean it's really there -- don't forget Mr Occam!)
I'm a fruit smoothie fanatic, and this isn't as surprising to me as you'd think. Taking 'organic chemistry' in college, I was fascinated by the sugars and their role in oral bacteria and weight gain; and in the fact that everything seems to boil down to glucose, even fat and protein. So I had my suspicion yet I satisfied myself by saying using whole fruits has so many other benefits. Now I'm looking at salad again :(
Glucose itself does not contribute to weight gain but a caloric surplus contributes to weight gain. Spiking glucose can make you feel more hungry and can contribute to eating more. Your body needs carbs which is why our body has the ability to convert fat / protein into glucose via gluconeogenesis. I got to around 6% body fat with a heavy carb diet because the amount of energy needed to perform at the level I needed could not have been done without significant carb intake. In the end I was at a deficit when losing weight regardless of macro/micro nutrient intake. I'll outperform a strictly carnivore individual who has no carb intake any day of the week
@@chickendumpling1335 I have seen misleading articles saying you don't eat carbs on the keto diet. Half of the calories consumed are supposed to be carbs on the most extreme regimen.
well if you’re a competitive athlete and need to burn rocket fuel then knock yourself out with sugar. But I’m here for health and quality of life. I’m DONE performing! Don’t care to impress anyone except myself that my body can heal from illnesses and enjoy a good life. When I stopped eating plants my energy & strength shot up & my body wasn’t swollen up looking anymore. I was never fat, just puffy. When I was 30yo, tiny & ripped from the gym is when I got my first medical diagnoses with hypothyroid. Plants & lo fat destroy digestion & ruin hormones. 2.5 decades later Carnivore is now dramatically improving my hormone imbalances & first time ever NO constipation. Hallelujah for carnivore! Little did I know all my elaborate, time consuming & expensive smoothies were killing me.
Interesting about what the test actually tests for. I was like you and thought it tested "sugars", not just glucose. Thanks for letting us know about this test that is actually lacking. Hopefully, some enterprising scientist will come up with a complete "sugar" test that won't cost an arm and leg.
Wow! This is great data. I have been getting an A1-C test every year for 47 years and my endo doctor never mentioned this. Probably because he didn't know. Every endo MD needs to understand this data so they can effectively council their patients Very glad to have this d now. Thanks Dr B!.
Would love to see Paul Saladino's response to this. I've recently started my carnivore adventure and am planning to ad back in fruit and honey in a month, but might reconsider.
be carefull with it b, very easy to overdo. try to add in skinned potatoes and and apple in here or there if you need a treat. starches have more anti nutrients but arent as addictive as fruit
@@Saundersstrongthat’s terrible advice. Potatoes are loaded with oxalic acid/oxalate crystals and other anti-nutrients. Look up “Sally Norton and Oxalates” on UA-cam if you want to learn more.

Dear Doctor, I really appreciate the job that you and the other good doctors are doing, you guys are not selling anything and helping people with information for free, I'm researching this carnivore and fruit diet, I listened to Peter Atria podcast and one of their guests was also your guest in the past, can't recall the name now, and he was saying all the things you say about fructose, addictions, cravings, liver produce glucose and fructose etc but he also was very clear about the fact that this bad things happen in a body of a person that is eating the normal Mediterranean/carb loaded diet for a person that doesn't eat extra carb this fruit carb and sugars in moderation of course don't get so much metabolized and they couldn't tell the difference in improvement of metabolic health between patients in a low sugar low fructose diet and patients in low sugar low fructose diet but that will still eat fructose eating real fruits ....in moderation of course.... I did all the diet in the world I love carnivore, did the lion diet but I feel much better if I also eat some fruit doing carnivore, I hate that this community becomes too much intolerant with people that have the goal of health and not the goal to stick to a new religion or to new doctor God to follow like a new messiah, I would love for you all to discuss this without holding your ground because in love with your ideas or what said before. What is the point in eliminating fruits if you have to take supplements on a carnivore diet? And what is so bad about glycation? Every time I try full carnivore I get chest cramps and lethargy. Kinda sus. Is lactose in raw milk and cheese just as bad?
I don't know that this really matters very much considering most of the fructose you consume is going to be converted by the liver into glucose anyways, i.e. it isn't going to be running around your body free to do all that damage - in which case, the HbA1C test would still give you most of the picture of the glycation in your body.
Using outlier's as a standard is not honest. If you find 10 000 people like your grandma, then and only then, it will BEGIN to be relevant. We all know smokers that never got cancer.

Glycation IN VITRO was 8-10 times higher...But what do we know about what actually happens in the body? Orange juice and honey added to the diet actually improved endothelial function in the blood vessels for instance. Paul Saladino has videos about this where he shows the studies on this. Also, his inflammation markers even improved after reintroducing fruits and honey. This is a very interesting video but I think we need to have more information of what actually is going on in the body when eating fruits and honey.
Thank you, my body always wanted to tell me not to eat so many fruits, but I believed the fruit gods that fruit is ok to eat at least 5 servings a day.

Eating a bit of fruit is still heaps better than all of the chocolate, sweets, cake, bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, cereal, crap nut milks etc, that I used to eat. Heaps better than gorging on vegetables oils and corn syrup. I eat mainly meat. I think ppl need to just find what suits them.
Just a thought. Honey is a biblical food. Quite a few fruits too mentioned in the Bible. Besides my grandpa never ate lunch for as long as I can remember he instead ate a huge bowl of fruit and we just celebrated his 102nd birthday on 20th June 2022
This is an interesting question but then I was thinking about my great grandfather who died at 94 and smoked from age 15 every day of his life. Some people just have strong genes and can get away with a lot more than people like myself who have metabolic issues that make me have to watch everything I do. It's a mystery but I'd say maybe his mother was robust or he ate very well as a child. Myself growing up in the 70s -90s I ate a lot of processed garbage SAD low-fat etc type foods so I think it really has had an impact on what I can get away with now. The grandfather I mentioned, I specifically remember him taking the fat trimmings from our plates at family get togethers and eating it saying "that's the best part!"
I think we need to consider that the fruits and vegetables grown back in those days were grown in the soil, as opposed to hydroponic farming, and were non gmo . The quality of fruits and vegetables today is what’s killing us .

I make 24-hour yogurt at home. All or most of the lactose is replaced by lactic acid. I have confirmed this with my glucose monitor. I am unsure of how much galactose remains, but now I eat half a cup of my homemade yogurt daily with some raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. Current a1c is 5.7, down from 6.6. Do what Dennis Pollock says test test test your blood sugar to know exactly how foods are reacting in your body ! I lost 60 pounds reversed pre diabetes and I now weigh what I did in high school at 54 and menopausal ! Keto and carnivore are great initially but as time went on it stressed my adrenals too much raised cortisol and I decided to add a modicum of organic fruit and even lower amount of organic vegetables and eat meat based and I started to sleep again ! Cortisol lowered so the stress in my body dropped / resolved best yet I now keep a steady A-1C of 4.8 eating meat , eggs, butter , fruit, vegetables in small amounts ! DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO SCARE YOU ! TEST TEST TEST GET AND USE A GLUCOSE METER !!!!!!!!! YOUR PROPER HUMAN DIET IS UNIQUE TO YOU NO ONE ELSE !!!!!!!!!!
What test are you doing to figure out how much of the fructose is glycating your proteins? Or are you satisfied because your a1c is 4.6? Just wondering? 🤔
I have been on low carb for a while now and I only eat meat, veggies and some healthy fat.Prior to this, I ate a banana and and apple every day and honey laden oatmeal. I have also been researching on glycation and this video just makes it clear

Over all a mess. I watched your Ketogenic video. I then read up on it as well. Took a full blood test 9/22. Numbers not good.
I started my Keto/Carnivore lifestyle.
It was amazingly easy. I wasn't hungry. On 11/1/22 I checked my bloodwork. Everything is in check!! Its a miracle healing to me 🙏🏻
And I am down 14lbs! With my thyroid being removed, losing weight has been almost impossible. Not now, living the Keto/Carve lifestyle is the best for me.
I still have friends and family making jokes. I have a new moto...

Dr berry has helped me get in the best shape of my life. I used to eat a good amount of fruit. I used to be bloated and my weight was stuck at 185. After listening to this great doctor I've lost another 20. I'm 41 now and I have more abs now than when I used to workout everyday in my 20s and I hardly work on my abs now. I live in an Eskimo village in Alaska. I can look back and see exactly the diet that was here for the natives and there is no fruit or honey at all not even vegetables other than a few greens in the spring and short summers. They were primarily carnivores and survived very harsh winters and environment and lived healthy.

Fruit use to be limited to two servings a day. A large apple would be shared. Tomatoe was considered a fruit serving. It was also seasonal for the most part.
Now people put 10 servings of fruit in a blender and add sugar or honey. That is breakfast.
I still eat fruit, but not daily. I like to have some clementine at Christmas. I forage for blueberries in the summer. I have a little homemade apples on my pork on occasion. I have homemade, keto friendly cramberry sauce with turkey. But I consider fruit a treat. Not a daily food.
I really think we fail to grasp how much work would go into attaining even a small amount of fruit. We have abundant fruit & nut producing plants on our property. But the wildlife all know it's here & have a knack for getting it the day before we would. Our ancestors might have put in the work to get a little, but as mentioned, it would've been a rare treat. It wouldn't have been pounds of super sweet fruit in a sitting.
Also keep in mind domesticated fruit sold at grocery stores are adulterated and genetically different from their counterparts in the wild. A wild apple tastes NOTHING like a grocery store apple. It’s less than half as sweet, and is TINY.
@@CC86CA Yes, most people have no idea how adulterated our food is. Most vegetables come from one plant that was engineered by scientists to create a whole other plant. When I found that out I didn't quit eating them. With the carnivore diet I feel confident that it is what the body really needs for optimum performance and have dropped all plant foods, as a new carnivore dieter.
Meat for me is an occasional treat. No red meat and no dairy protein!
@@herbbowler2461 That's what I do. I eat fruit only occasionally and chicken meat maybe twice a week at the most, and red meat as a treat. It all comes down to being sensible and keeping all things in moderation.
I literally just finished reading five articles, by medical professionals, claiming that my carnivore regimen (I refuse to call it a "diet") is making me more susceptible to developing breast cancer and/or other types of cancer, and that reducing or eliminating meat consumption and focusing on eating fruits and vegetables is the ONLY healthy alternative. I was actually considering adding some fruit UNTIL I found this video, even though I avoid fructose due to its confirmed association with dementia and my general carb aversion. As I have nothing but the utmost respect and faith in the info you share, I will stay the path with carnivore. I've lost over 50 lbs; am one of the only senior-aged women I know who is not obese; and have had my hypothyroid medication cut by more than half, all in the last two years. Thank you so much for being such a valued and dedicated resource! Though I'm definitely done with fruit, you're the one "Berry" I refuse to do without!🙏❤😉

In June 2018 after watching Gary Fettke’s video “Is Fruit Good or Bad For You?”, I did my first Diet Elimination Trial in which I stopped eating fruit. Within 2 months I had dropped 35 pounds and was feeling amazing! Turns out “wholesome, natural” fruit was the biggest driver of my prior obesity and painfully arthritic knees and lower back. I eventually lost another 35 pounds as I progressed to become the very healthy low meal frequency carnivore I remain today. Despite Paul Saladino’s recommendations, I had zero intention of adding fruits and honey to my diet given my previous negative experience. This important finding Dr. Berry presents in this video gives me even more reason to continue on this path that has been working so well at keeping me far healthier at age 57 than I ever was the rest of my life.
um aren't fruits rich in vitamins - more so than vegetables? where are you going to get your vitamin c? from supplements? better off getting it from foods. but I see what you mean cuz american food is gmo-heavy, full of pesticide or antibiotics.

I checked some of the studies you linked (not all) and the tests used fructose in isolation, not as a complete food like honey or fruit like a banana. So you can not draw the conclusion that fructose in fruit causes glycation. Fructose in isolation seems to cause this problem, but not in fruit as a complete package as other studies have definitively proven there is a difference between a complete fruit/food and fructose, lactose, or sucrose in isolation.
I am hesitant to demonize fruit, milk, and honey these days as after 12 years of keto and IF (including carnivore) I ruined my electrolyte system in my body - I couldn't retain electrolytes and supplementation didn't help. My heart was pounding non-stop for 3 months and it drove me crazy - though specialists and doctors said my heart physically was fine. It would sometimes pound so hard that I got jitters and felt very unwell. I reintroduced fruit after 12 years - just 1 fruit with each meal, and stopped fasting and I was feeling better on day 1 and completely recovered in a week.
Will the fruit make me fat? No idea, maybe, time will tell. I'll check my bloods in 90 days. But definitely feeling much better.

The fructose in fruit and isolated fructose...are still the exact same thing -- fructose.
@@veniqer yes, but delivery mechanism is different. And this makes a difference. Fructose in fruit is fine, and, if anything, has a positive impact on health. Plenty of studies show this in humans and animals and if you watch Paul’s video he will list some examples.
High insulin levels prevent the kidneys from secreting electrolytes. This can cause high blood pressure when electrolytes are also high. There's a very well known recommendation on keto/carnivore to get plenty of salt and electrolytes because our RDA is grossly underestimated when we don't have chronic hyperinsulinemia.
@@mikafoxx2717 I get that, but I had the same issue as Paul Saldino, after two months of strict carnivore (so zero carbs) and a decade of IF/Keto (with weekly cheat days) my body could not retain electrolytes. I ended up dosing myself with very high/dangerous levels of them to no avail. Your body ends up just dumping electrolytes, it can't retain them, which leads to severe heart palpitations (though I wasn't hospitalised others have been). As soon as I added fruit into my diet - just 1 with each meal, and cut out fasting entirely, my heart calmed down immediately and I was fully recovered after about a month. More recently studies show that insulin reaction is critical to the electrolyte cycle of the body, and, if you go for long periods one zero carb (so no insulin reaction) you will crash your electrolyte system. Surprisingly, after 3 months of the "animal based diet" with all its fruits and honey I have not gained any weight but feel much better.
I think the thing that kept me going, in retrospect, so long on keto and IF were the cheat days. As soon as they were eliminated I got this issue. No idea if its a specific to my genetics or specific to people of Mediterranean descent (Paul Saldino is Italian) or what, but keto is untenable for us long term, or that the carnivore people are actually cheating just enough to get by (and I Just mean they are getting carbs somehow) but, I wouldn't wish what I had on anyone.

@@solomani-42 what I've heard, is that you need to up your protien dose and have a good sized meal so you get an insulin response. Also a possibility is that you were drinking too much water as well. I think one of the issues is that people think you need to constantly be in ketosis and dare not get kicked out, but when in reality things like fish and most meat has plenty of protein compared to fat, closer to 50/50 or less. The people eating 80% or more calories by fat to stay deep in ketosis and eating several meals to not spike insulin via the protein may be doing themselves a disservice. There's also the possibility of genetics. Those of some genetics that trended north interbred with Neanderthals ~65,000 years ago, which gave them a better ability to deal with cold among other things. Perhaps they kind of differences change how people react to all carnivorous eating. The Inuit seem to have done fine for hundreds of generations. I do believe that sugar isn't good for us however, nor a daily occurrence. I'm outdoorsy and I know the local wild fruit and for the few months it exists a year, you'd have to spend all day picking and eating to gain weight. The locals are fish and cervids mostly, which have higher protein to fat ratios than what most peddle for keto/carnivore. Perhaps it's that we need to fat adapt firstly before allowing protein load to be increased.
Dr Ken, you were the initial person/expert who I watched and made the decision to go carnivore back in June of this year. It only took a few months for major changes to start happening, and they are continuing to get better and better. Family and friends are amazed, some are making the leap to a PHDiet based on my results. I was overweight and out of shape and very depressed. In fact, it was your video with Dr Palmer that made me decide to go full bore carnivore, immediately, rather than wait another day, week or longer. So glad I did the results are amazing!!! I'm a true believer now and hope any others maybe still on the fence give it a try - truly a miracle way of life! Thank you

@@mctow8554 I always suggest looking up any food on google and finding out from there how high (or low) the carb count is of any food you are thinking about eating. If it's high carb, you really do not need it...some foods you may be able to get away with eating a much smaller amount though...but rice for one is generally high carb.

I live in Istanbul Turkey, which means I have zero chance of getting a medical exam by Dr.Berry. However, his book "Lies My Doctor Told Me" has helped me more than any doctor I've seen face-to-face. In my opinion, Dr. Berry reminds us of an important forgotten value, "honesty". We just do not need more charlatans but doctors as Dr.Berry.

Hey Dr Berry. As someone who was having hormonal issues on the carnivore diet with things like elevated cortisol and lower testosterone. I think you should cover these topics more often. I started carnivore last year because of autoimmune and overall health issues. Not because I was fat. I feel like most of your advice is directed towards overweight people which is fine but what about the rest of us who aren’t overweight but have chronic health issues? I had diarrhea the entire time I was on carnivore and it never cleared up until I started eating fruit again. This isn’t a sugar craving or an excuse to eat other things. I actually enjoyed eating 100% animal products. Can you answer this for people like myself that had issues on carnivore? It would be much appreciated
There is no one size fits all diet. I see nothing wrong with adding fruits like berries to your carnivore diet, especially if it helps with diarrhea. I am 3 weeks into my first 30 day carnivore diet and I have already lost 15 pounds. After 30 days I plan to return to a well balanced diet, while eliminating processed foods and processed sugar. - Dave
Diarrhea is not bad . Usually clears up in a few weeks . If not it means you were eating too much fat.. That fruit is going to do a lot of damage to your body .

If I consume 200 grams of fat In one meal I will immediately be running to the bathroom. If I consume 70 grams of fat Per meal I have zero diarrhea. Diarrhea is not bad, is not painful . Diarrhea is just you wasting your money. Wasting fat. It can take a month to develop the enzymes to digest large amounts of fat

Oh boy this answers a lot for me. I used to eat fruit and honey until going carnivore in October. I have huge health problems and massive amounts of inflammation but the majority of time my A1c was great. Thanks for all that you do.

It's known just not spoken about for so many reasons most people don't realize that the medical world raised the fasting insulin up 13 points to normalize higher readings as normal. Trust me they know.
When I started eating cherries for pain in my elbow, it was numb the next morning, and gone the day after that, never to return, probably because I caught it at an early stage. Other joints have been helped by cherries, an old treatment for arthritis. Fresh cherries are not really that sweet though.

This is brilliant. So now we know why somebody can have a normal or slightly impaired a1c, but extensive atherosclerosis. The fructose damage is not measured in a1c, so the lipid damage is also not only not measured, but not even proxied for by the a1c.

Certainly, however everything has a limitation and as someone mentioned foods being seasonal one would not consume the quantities that we are today. If we stayed in the daily allotment that the body can tolerate it does not cause this issue. But today people consume far more fructose than the body can deal with whether from too much fruit and juice or from other means. You do not see this issue so much with vegetables that do not have higher fructose levels. Fructose can not be blunted so it affects the body differently than sucrose does.
Hence why we need to pay attention to all three tests fasting insulin, glucose and A1c but we have raised the range of normal insulin levels to higher levels normalizing what we are seeing, the range was raised about 6 years ago I feel because someone knows the truth.
The fiber does not blunt fructose as much as it does sucrose therefore higher levels of fructose is more damaging. No one is saying not to have it but keep in proper limits.

Holy cow! My health problem makes so much more sense now. Inflammation but excellent a1c and excellent blood pressure. Been on carnivore since June 2022. No more inflammation and no meds or problems now.
@@VidNibs Inflammation is caused by carbs, sugar, seed oils, and anti nutrients in plants. I eat meat mostly - bacon, eggs, steak, a little bit of cheese. Sometimes chicken or other meats.

Thank-you Dr Ken. Fructose is ten times more glycating than glucose, and we have no way of measuring that damage. That doesn’t fit into my health plan. The elevated view of the perceived wholesomeness of “fruits&vegatables” is leading us down a road that is not healthy. Thank-you !

Is it the carnivore diet or the fact when you went on this diet, you stopped eating all the things you shouldn't? As an 80 year old, I just had my blood work checked last month and it's still perfect including cholesterol levels. Just a healthly balanced diet, exercise, and my vities. No medications.

A lot of people who watch this channel and start carnivore do it after having already cleared out the obvious junk but are still not seeing optimal health. It's once they clear out the junk that people tell them is "healthy" that they start to really improve.
You say "healthy balanced diet". That's a phrase you have been taught to use, and is not based on any actual science. My late grandmother remembered coming in (she passed 5 years ago, age 89). I'm glad you are healthy at 80, I've seen plenty of health conscious 70+s with metabolic issues, but follow a "healthy balanced diet" because that's what they were told to do. It may work for you, but for most people, it really doesn't.
Dr Berry, thanks for all you do. I was wondering where your data about the content of honey comes from? My understanding was honey was low in fructose and mostly sucrose/glucose. My grandfather (a beekeeper born1896) swore by honey and consumed quantities of it daily. Was never sick a day in his life, never went to a hospital a day in his life (kids were all born at home-he said hospitals are were people go to die! how prescient in the era of Covid!). He lived to 93 working every day until the day of his death (which ultimately was from lung cancer as he was a leather worker/shoe maker as well (inhaled a lot of nasty solvents/mercury I am sure, and smoked a pipe regularly for 75+ yrs). All in all if I make it to 93 and still active and strong as he was, I won't be complaining.
I used to have honey often, until I learned that it had so much fructose. Then, I swore off any sweeteners...😥 But so much the better for it today!😺

Tallow, Lard also...I have boiled a couple eggs and put bacon grease on them to get over the craving...hope this helped...keep going you will be the sugar addiction!!

Thank you Dr. Berry. You just confirmed my intuition. I was carnivore for 2 years and decided to add fruit and honey on recommendations from another carnivore MD and my health and training performance went downhill. I've dropped them from my diet and I'm I'm back to being well. Also I noticed the faces of the high carb proponents is weathering at an accelerated rate.

I'm down 50 pounds since watching your video on Triple B&E. I decided to do it for a month and just see what it was like. My sleep normalized, I stopped snoring. Pain is non-existent for me now as well, and I had chronic back pain from a car accident and surgery to correct it in 2018 (it didn't). I planned on doing Triple B&E from 9/21 to 10/21, lost 36 lbs through the diet change alone during that period (no exercise). I've just kept going because I feel completely different, physically, emotionally, mentally. So wild. For December, I've added in weight lifting to see how the nutrition change with exercise works out. So strange to not be extremely sore after lifting decently heavy weights. This nutrition info is life changing. Thanks Doc!
as someone that eats a lot of fruit and uses honey quite abit, this is very eye opening and i know that many years ago when i went on a diet of just meat and veggies my body
changed drastically with weight loss and i felt great but when my wife kept complainging about how different i looked i went back to eating the usual diet to put some weight back
on and it has never been the same since then, being single and in my 70s i will be finishing up what ever fruit i have and cutting out a lot of stuff and going basically meat and veggies again. tooooooooo much coffee and fuit smoothies that have contributed to my health issues

Why on earth would a wife complain that you are getting healthier, feeling better, and looking better? She should have been proud of you. It's never too late to change...so good for you for working towards a healthier you again. And the coffee, it's awful for the adrenal glands anyway. When I hear people say they cut out coffee and had horrible headaches....that right there tells you coffee isn't good for your body. At that point, it's an addiction that the body doesn't need. LOTS of people in the health world today cutting out the caffeine...and it's been so much better for their health.

This is good to know! Although I keep my fruit consumption to small servings scattered throughout the week and limited to berries, it has me considering dropping the frequency or entirely eliminating except for rare special occasions. My HA1c has dropped from 7 to 6.1 over the last year. It has my doctor thrilled. I’ll take that with a smile and eye roll-she also informed me that all white cheese has no fat and can be consumed as much as desired and that only yellow cheese has fats. I didn’t bother to tell her the yellow comes from beta carotene not fat. Figured I would be pissing in the wind.

I highly recommend the UA-cam channel, BeatDiabetes. Dennis is a serious advocate of post prandial blood glucose testing in order to identify which particular foods are particularly problematic for you.
@@muchasalud2011 oh she most definitely is! I’ve moved and that was my last visit with her, simply for the renewal for a couple scripts and management of my labs at that point. I was excited for my a1c because I knew what I’d been doing and that I’d have a great result. I believe my a1c came down slower simply because I’d been diabetic for about 4 years and the body has a hard time changing what it’s been accustomed to but certainly removing fruit is worth a trial.
You have to treat fruit like nature’s candy. Eat very sparingly or never at all.

Had a CT scan a couple of months ago that revealed fat on my liver. It didn't get diagnosed as NAFLD, but I know that that's what fat on my liver means. From all the smoothies over years. Not much one for alcohol, so it's from fruit. I have been being a strict carnivore for about 12 weeks. Next time I have a CT scan I'm going to ask them to take a peek and see if my liver has cleared up from the fat deposit. Seems kind of shocking that fruit could be detrimental to one's health. But when you consider that we absolutely did not evolve with any of the fruits that we are eating today, especially not consumed daily, in multitudes, it becomes not surprising that it is problematic for our physiology. Good thing meat and fat are so tasty! I really don't miss sweet things.
You don't need a CT scan you can have an ultrasound of the liver to check for fatty liver. I'd have another scan in 6 months and see where you are, talk to your doctor.
The Real Deal what is your height/weight or BMI?
@@muchasalud2011 that's not the point, the point is the person needs to talk to their doctor about fatty liver disease and have their doctor recognize the issue and keep track of how the liver is doing, liver enzyme tests for one to test it's functioning. I have a fatty liver and keep a close eye on it as I go through carnivore dieting.

So my question is, what is “a lot” of fruit and honey? I’m a very active, 6ft 210lbs 44 year old carpenter, manual labor and exercise every day. I eat a Whole Foods diet of meat and leaves and some fruit. I have a apple with my egg yolks and avocado for breakfast, maybe a few handfuls of berries (raspberries, blueberries and blackberries) with my dinner (steak,salmon,beef ribs, hammer in daily rotation) and about a half a teaspoon of honey with my chamomile tea in the evening. It seems we are in the infancy of truly understanding what healthy IS, thank you for taking us along in your evolution.

All the studies quoted are based on extracted, isolated fructose. Fructose in whole food complex does not affect body in the same way. Also, mice handle fructose poorly physiologically so results would not replicate in humans.

I have diabetes type 2,I take all the new drugs, still my sugar is not going down,after talking to my endocrinologist,he asked how much fruit I eat,I was honest I love fruit,I would eat 4-5 pieces of fruit like the guidelines mention,my doctor explained to me that being diabetic I should try and stop eating fruit and go on a fructose free diet.i was surprised we were told how healthy fruit is and filled with vitamins.
I have started my fructose free diet this week, very eager to see the changes.
A vegetarian friend of ours eats a LOT of fruit: smoothies and juices mostly. He became diabetic but insisted to his doctor that he didn't have any white sugar in his diet! His doctor had to point out that he has a very high sugar diet, and the fact these sugars are 'natural' doesn't matter. I can't believe he couldn't figure this out for himself.
He should have drunk way more water than fruit juices. Green tea with lemon, a little honey, and cinnamon.

My grandma smoked 2 packs of non filter Camels a day from the time she was 13. She lived to be 100. There's always those strange cases.

Dr. Berry, Thanks for the eye opener! Wish I had known this 20 years back. I am a long term diabetic who has changed his lifestyle significantly over the last 7-8 years. I am down to a HbA1C of 6.2 and I hope to pull it down to early 5s in due course of time. I used to consume significant quantity of fruits for 'health reasons' a long time back - I stick to occasional berries now. This revelation has made me somewhat wary and reevaluate the changes I have made in my diet!

The saddest thing is that it's obvious, just look at pictures of him over the last 2 years, he aged 10 years in that time while Dr Berry only looks younger. Sure it's not scientific evidence but it's a big enough hint that something is amiss.

The look on my Drs face when I told him I was eating bananas and mangoes after he announced I no longer need meds. 3 years later I'm slim, energetic, healthy, have great blood work, lowered cholesterol. Agreed. We’re all human yet all have unique needs. I eat fruit and honey as I was losing too much weight on only meat and dairy. Now I feel so much better, and the weight loss has stopped. I’m super active as housecleaner, so I may just need it.

The key word in there is you mentioned you were thin. You can eat fruit as long as you are not gaining weight thereby using the fruit sugar as energy and not storing it. Any diet will work as long as you are not on a calorie surplus. That being said, you would probably be healthier if you avoided the fruit and ate more fats and protein instead. Your insulin levels were much higher eating all that fruit
I realized early on in this adventure that any kind of fruit was terrible for my reactive hypoglycaemia. However the absolute worst thing I can have is honey. Being that I understand that I don't eat any and haven't for years. It's not hard to do.
My wife and I were in great health. But when we started to listen to Dr. Berry about the Carnivore Diet, we thought we give it a good try because we're always willing to learn. We were perfect weight when we started, but started to lose weight we couldn't afford to lose. I lost 18 pounds of muscle which made me lose my strength. My wife also lost quite a bit of muscle. My heart was no longer beating regularly because my electrolytes were too low. We ate plenty of salt, butter and even Dr. Berry's electrolytes, but our health continued to decline. We also lost a lot of our hair. I could tell my testosterone had went way down. I told my wife we had to quit this. This diet was killing us. That's when we found Dr. Paul Saladino and added fresh fruits and raw honey to our diet, along with the grass fed beef we were already eating. Our health began to turn around and we started to feel better immediately. Over the next several months, we got our muscle back and our hair grew back in. I also got my testosterone back. But the thing I wasn't expecting was, I could do the splits! I haven't been able to do the splits in decades. I'm more limber now than I've ever been. I believe this is due to the raw honey. I discovered a researcher that studied and lived among a tribe called the Honey Shepherds. They walk many miles every day looking for trees to climb to gather their honey. They lick it off their hands and arms while they gather it and their diet consists of mostly honey. He noticed how heathy this tribe was. But what impressed him most was how limber and flexible they were. He believes it is because of the raw honey. He discovered several people that are serious Yoga people that swear by raw honey to make them flexible. I am a believer now!

This story is atypical than what most people report. OP should be doing some resistance training regardless of his diet. If it works to eat honey and fruit then fine. Not the case for many people. I don’t eat honey. I do eat a few berries-covered in heavy whipping cream.
Fructose is not kryptonite (nor are we Superman). In fact, there are enzymes in the body specifically for the purpose of converting glucose into fructose. Also, the liver is not constrained in metabolising fructose, as it is with glucose, so that metabolism occurs relatively rapidly. And glucose is one of the principal end products.
The author of the cited paper refers to premetabolic production of AGEs in the gut due to dietary fructose. No mention is made of how these are then able to somehow escape the fate of other unneeded substances in that location. There is no lack of evidence for the other ill-effects of excess fructose consumption -- NAFLD, elevated triglycerides, metabolic syndrome risk, etc. But the "hidden" risk of tissue and organ damage due to fructose-induced AGEs seems to be lacking substantiation (and just because it's hard to measure doesn't mean it's really there -- don't forget Mr Occam!)
I'm a fruit smoothie fanatic, and this isn't as surprising to me as you'd think. Taking 'organic chemistry' in college, I was fascinated by the sugars and their role in oral bacteria and weight gain; and in the fact that everything seems to boil down to glucose, even fat and protein. So I had my suspicion yet I satisfied myself by saying using whole fruits has so many other benefits. Now I'm looking at salad again :(
Glucose itself does not contribute to weight gain but a caloric surplus contributes to weight gain. Spiking glucose can make you feel more hungry and can contribute to eating more. Your body needs carbs which is why our body has the ability to convert fat / protein into glucose via gluconeogenesis. I got to around 6% body fat with a heavy carb diet because the amount of energy needed to perform at the level I needed could not have been done without significant carb intake. In the end I was at a deficit when losing weight regardless of macro/micro nutrient intake. I'll outperform a strictly carnivore individual who has no carb intake any day of the week

When I stopped eating plants my energy & strength shot up & my body wasn’t swollen up looking anymore. I was never fat, just puffy. When I was 30yo, tiny & ripped from the gym is when I got my first medical diagnoses with hypothyroid. Plants & lo fat destroy digestion & ruin hormones. 2.5 decades later Carnivore is now dramatically improving my hormone imbalances & first time ever NO constipation. Hallelujah for carnivore! Little did I know all my elaborate, time consuming & expensive smoothies were killing me.

Interesting about what the test actually tests for. I was like you and thought it tested "sugars", not just glucose. Thanks for letting us know about this test that is actually lacking. Hopefully, some enterprising scientist will come up with a complete "sugar" test that won't cost an arm and leg.

be carefull with it b, very easy to overdo. try to add in skinned potatoes and and apple in here or there if you need a treat. starches have more anti nutrients but arent as addictive as fruit
@@Saundersstrongthat’s terrible advice. Potatoes are loaded with oxalic acid/oxalate crystals and other anti-nutrients. Look up “Sally Norton and Oxalates” on UA-cam if you want to learn more.
The healthiest I've ever been was grain free eating fruits and honey. But i guess if you want to add carbs you will need to eat grains.

Dear Doctor, I really appreciate the job that you and the other good doctors are doing, you guys are not selling anything and helping people with information for free, I'm researching this carnivore and fruit diet, I listened to Peter Atria podcast and one of their guests was also your guest in the past, can't recall the name now, and he was saying all the things you say about fructose, addictions, cravings, liver produce glucose and fructose etc but he also was very clear about the fact that this bad things happen in a body of a person that is eating the normal Mediterranean/carb loaded diet for a person that doesn't eat extra carb this fruit carb and sugars in moderation of course don't get so much metabolized and they couldn't tell the difference in improvement of metabolic health between patients in a low sugar low fructose diet and patients in low sugar low fructose diet but that will still eat fructose eating real fruits ....in moderation of course.... I did all the diet in the world I love carnivore, did the lion diet but I feel much better if I also eat some fruit doing carnivore, I hate that this community becomes too much intolerant with people that have the goal of health and not the goal to stick to a new religion or to new doctor God to follow like a new messiah, I would love for you all to discuss this without holding your ground because in love with your ideas or what said before. The goal is to understand not to find a market slice and talk to them only

What is the point in eliminating fruits if you have to take supplements on a carnivore diet? And what is so bad about glycation? Every time I try full carnivore I get chest cramps and lethargy. Kinda sus.

I don't know that this really matters very much considering most of the fructose you consume is going to be converted by the liver into glucose anyways, i.e. it isn't going to be running around your body free to do all that damage - in which case, the HbA1C test would still give you most of the picture of the glycation in your body.
My grandma eats and has eaten fruit every day of her life and she is 94.

Glycation IN VITRO was 8-10 times higher...But what do we know about what actually happens in the body? Orange juice and honey added to the diet actually improved endothelial function in the blood vessels for instance. Paul Saladino has videos about this where he shows the studies on this. Also, his inflammation markers even improved after reintroducing fruits and honey. This is a very interesting video but I think we need to have more information of what actually is going on in the body when eating fruits and honey.
Thank you, my body always wanted to tell me not to eat so many fruits, but I believed the fruit gods that fruit is ok to eat at least 5 servings a day.

Eating a bit of fruit is still heaps better than all of the chocolate, sweets, cake, bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, cereal, crap nut milks etc, that I used to eat. Heaps better than gorging on vegetables oils and corn syrup. I eat mainly meat. I think ppl need to just find what suits them.
Just a thought. Honey is a biblical food. Quite a few fruits too mentioned in the Bible. Besides my grandpa never ate lunch for as long as I can remember he instead ate a huge bowl of fruit and we just celebrated his 102nd birthday on 20th June 2022
This is an interesting question but then I was thinking about my great grandfather who died at 94 and smoked from age 15 every day of his life. Some people just have strong genes and can get away with a lot more than people like myself who have metabolic issues that make me have to watch everything I do. It's a mystery but I'd say maybe his mother was robust or he ate very well as a child. Myself growing up in the 70s -90s I ate a lot of processed garbage SAD low-fat etc type foods so I think it really has had an impact on what I can get away with now. The grandfather I mentioned, I specifically remember him taking the fat trimmings from our plates at family get togethers and eating it saying "that's the best part!"

I think we need to consider that the fruits and vegetables grown back in those days were grown in the soil, as opposed to hydroponic farming, and were non gmo . The quality of fruits and vegetables today is what’s killing us .

I make 24-hour yogurt at home. All or most of the lactose is replaced by lactic acid. I have confirmed this with my glucose monitor. I am unsure of how much galactose remains, but now I eat half a cup of my homemade yogurt daily with some raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. Current a1c is 5.7, down from 6.6. Do what Dennis Pollock says test test test your blood sugar to know exactly how foods are reacting in your body ! I lost 60 pounds reversed pre diabetes and I now weigh what I did in high school at 54 and menopausal ! Keto and carnivore are great initially but as time went on it stressed my adrenals too much raised cortisol and I decided to add a modicum of organic fruit and even lower amount of organic vegetables and eat meat based and I started to sleep again ! Cortisol lowered so the stress in my body dropped / resolved best yet I now keep a steady A-1C of 4.8 eating meat , eggs, butter , fruit, vegetables in small amounts ! DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO SCARE YOU ! TEST TEST TEST GET AND USE A GLUCOSE METER !!!!!!!!! YOUR PROPER HUMAN DIET IS UNIQUE TO YOU NO ONE ELSE !!!!!!!!!!
What test are you doing to figure out how much of the fructose is glycating your proteins? Or are you satisfied because your a1c is 4.6? Just wondering? 🤔
I have been on low carb for a while now and I only eat meat, veggies and some healthy fat.Prior to this, I ate a banana and and apple every day and honey laden oatmeal. I have also been researching on glycation and this video just makes it clear
