@@Thebishopsinterview Nathan, if you had asked for advice first, I'da told you to go to Weigel's or Pilot and get you some regular old gas station coffee. It's as good as any. Put some Splenda and creamer in it. I prefer French Vanilla. Having said that, my wife likes Dunkin coffee too. But that's just regular coffee, not those fancy fru-fru drinks. And on that note, if you ever wanna try alcohol, start with one of those alcoholic root beers or apple ciders.
My first coffee was January 8th 2016. I was on the road and for got to take my wallet. I was three hours drive away from home without enough cash to fill up my car with gas to drive home. I stopped at my bank to pull out an cash card to get me home and was hungry and thirsty. They had coffee in the lobby. I did partake. By the way, I like my coffee dark, black, scorched, and stale as can be. Thick enough to stand a spoon in it. Give it to me as nasty as you can. I grew up in a Mormon household drinking hot Postum. I had a taste for coffee.
I didn't like it at first either, but my never Mo friends said most commercial coffee is burnt. I thought I'd try roasting some myself to see if it helped. After I got past the learning curve, I found my sweet spot, a light medium roast that I drink black, no sugar or other additives necessary. The aroma is amazing. Instead of pastries or donuts, I frequently eat dates along with my coffee. The combination tastes like caramel.
My coffee 2-cents: 1. Most coffee people drink is unhealthy because of what they put in it. Specifically syrup flavoring with high fructose corn syrup, sugars, maybe some creams. And even the milk can degrade the absorption of the healthy polyphenols from coffee. So in that sense the word of wisdom (as silly as that is) is coincidentally right that coffee as typically consumed is unhealthy. However… 2. Black coffee (and probably coffee sweetened with a zero sugar sweetener like monkfruit or allulose) is very healthy for your liver. ~2-3 cups (8 oz) of black coffee per day can reduce your risk of liver cancer and can help with weight management by helping the body’s metabolic and liver functions. Polyphenols in coffee are beneficial for health. And as someone else mentioned, coffee can help the digestion process and alleviate constipation for anyone that needs a little help. I’ve always thought it would be weird to meet a Mormon Gastrointestinal (GI) doctor because the doctor would know the science behind the health benefits of black coffee and green tea (other teas too, but especially green tea). And I’d like to see if the Mormon GI doctor would have the professional integrity to recommend liver disease or obesity medicine patients to consume black coffee and green tea as-is or lightly sweetened as mentioned previously or with an modest amount of organic, pure raw honey.
Start with iced coffee drinks. Or if you want hot, try a white chocolate mocha coffee. That feels yummy and smooth. Left the church at age 61, took a bunch of experimenting and trial. Now 4 years later, I love a hot black Mocka Java ! But drinking coffee will grow on you, Bish!
Try a local coffee shop! The quality is so much better than the chains. You don’t need all the sugar or flavorings when it’s made correctly. But I do have a taste for coffee. I would drink it as a kid with my exed dad!
Grew up Lutheran and missed my coffee big time when I joined the LDS church. Had my name removed about a year ago and tried coffee again for the first time in 25 years. Tasted pretty crappy. After about 3 times, my taste for delicious coffee is back. Love it, it’s great!
Flavored coffees mostly suck, in my opinion. Get a coffee pot, brew your own. Drink a small cup black and see how it goes! Add some half and half and some sugar if you like. Never Mormon here and been drinking coffee most of my adult life 50+years.
I tried coffee for the first time in my mission. A nice old lady wanted to give us hot chocolate but didn’t mention it had coffee too. It was delicious until my companion smelled it and asked. since then and for years I secretly like it but didn’t drink it until now that I am not Mormon
I have a bad liver. My liver specialist told me that black coffee is good for your liver and to drink 1 cup of black coffee first thing in the morning and wait to one hour before I eat or drink anything else. Being raised a Mormon, I never drank coffee in my life. I got some cold brew because I knew I could never tolerate hot coffee. IT TASTED AWFUL, but I force myself to drink it every morning. I have been drinking it every morning for the past 4 months and it is still awful. COFFEE IS JUST PLAIN NASTY.
Coffee is an acquired taste. I started drinking it after I left the church with 3/4 Hot Choc and 1/4 Coffee. Now I drink 2 Mugs of Regular coffee with Chobani Creamer and sugar everyday. Wouldn't go back to not drinking hot products.
Coffee alone tastes like drinking the water after you washed your socks in it. Adding sweeteners or flavorings is the only way to do it. It basically becomes coffee flavored sweet drinks.
Hazelnut is awful. Mocha = chocolate. Being a jack mormon for a lot of years , i started at 16. Now i drink flavored coffee with flavored creamer. Hot or cold depends on the weather.
It takes a bit to figure it out and how to make it taste good without it being unhealthy. It's definitely healthier than monster drinks or sodas. Get you a Mr Coffee maker and brew yourself. Foldgers has a more burnt taste but the McDonald's or IHOP brands are really good. Best wishes for the holidays.
You need to try Starbucks. Ex Mormon left 1 month ago and I get right now a hot Carmel Brule ex sweet. Mocha is chocolate coffee. If you want cold coffee my favorite is cookie mocha in a frape
my first was a frosted coffee at Chick-fil-A. I did not like it and threw it away. I’ve never liked the smell of coffee even in the grocery store. So it doesn’t really surprise me that I’m not a big fan of the bitterness. I also don’t like beer for that reason. call me crazy, but that’s just my personal preference. However, I was able to find out that if I have a white chocolate mocha coffee drink, and go heavy on the white chocolate, I can handle it.
It’s ok, coffee isn’t for everyone. But I do like coffee. I’m a PIMO and haven’t given a lick of care about the no tea or coffee rule in years. Like Cartman says “I do what I want”, as far as the WoW goes.
I haven’t tried this yet but let my teenage son buy a Starbucks latte. He said it tasted like burnt toast. I’m not sure what a good gateway drink would be to coffee.
Did you get any sweetner put in it?!!! It's all about the sugar. If you got them plain of course they're gonna suck. I take a half a bag of sugar with my coffee. Now go to Starbucks and get a White Chocolate Mocha. That's better.
You know you’re going to hell now, right? (Lol) I started drinking coffee a year ago… it kind of grows on you! My favorite is Kirkland (Costco) Cold Brew mixed with a Fairlife Chocolate Protein shake with a splash of heavy cream! SO delicious!
You are hysterically funny. Remember I was where you are now. I grew up with parents that drink coffee and I thought the smell and the flavor what kind of hideous. This was before I was a convert at 20. You'll have to find your so-called coffee go to. I don't like Starbucks drinks they are too strong. I have found that 7-Eleven pumpkin spice latte that starts out hot and I stick it in the fridge and make it cold and chilled is delicious. Don't laugh but I will add some water once I've drank it down a bit so that it's not too sweet and it is also not too coffeeish. My colleagues at work jokingly say that I am having my homeopathic coffee because it is not super coffeeish. You'll have to find your go-to. I will take a extra large now and then and I will get 3 days out of it because I don't drink it up in one sitting due to the sugar content not so much caffeine. I am intelligent and smart enough to know how to drink this stuff in moderation. Haha don't need the church for that. Govern yourself is my motto and I don't judge others for their coffee habits.
