SAINTS & SISTERS
In this Episode of The Bishop's Interview I am joined by 2 friends, Aimee and Songs, as we discuss Prophets, Patriarchy, and the LDS Church. It was such a pleasure to have these 2 on. They did a great job at bringing to light the harm caused by the way women are treated in the Mormonism.
You will find quite a bit more of this topic including "purity culture" on my facebook page...just search Nathan Hinckley. Thanks for your support!

I Don't "Know" Anything
Переглядів 2,7 тис.2 години тому
I have a problem with what Mormons call “testimony”. If you go to any Mormon church on the first Sunday of the month you will hear this sentence many times…”i know the church is true” and if you’re lucky you might hear it followed by “with every fiber of my being” or something like that. Often times one might even go into some rant about the distinction between “believe” rather than “know” and ...

However…the following qualifier will always come out if you ask the right questions…”as far as it is translated correctly”. This stipulation suggests that there are many parts of the Bible that the faith believes is not tr...

You addressed something so subtle here today. It is that we were taught every time we felt elevated emotion it meant the church was true. Even though it had nothing to do with it. I used to feel peace and joy during my daily nature walks. And that confirmed in my Mind the church was true. When in reality walking in nature just makes me feel happy and peaceful. The church always stole the credit.

If Joseph Smith's foundations were not solid, why worry about details of subsequent "prophets"? Former Mormons express concerns about their parents' loss of family members, in the celestial kingdom. If Joseph Smith is discredited, the celestial kingdom dissolves with him; he made it up. I'm even more surprised when people who are excommunicated keep following directives from church officials about what they can and can't do or wear or donate to. Joseph Smith could not have expected all this to last for 200 years, if he thought Jesus was about to come again. It seems, from what I've heard from questioning Mormons, that Joseph Smith wanted a free house and a bunch of sex, while people were waiting for Jesus to come and sort things out. He would not have done well, under most people's beliefs about the final judgment.

Bishops Nathan Hinkley. You and two other excommunicated Bishops were on a panel with John D. Your presentation was the pivatol point of my life when I started my real deconstructed process after being excommunicated, and rebaptized ... followed by many more years of spiritual pain, shunning, etc. I felt joy finding out I wasn't alone. I am enjoying your podcasts and want to thank you. I can identify with being a woman in the LDS "Mormon" church and it's soul destructing double standard process. I am a retirering psychotherapist, a grateful recovering Mormon/Latterday Saint. As a young covert, I jumped from the frying pan and into the fire. Thank you, again. You are a gift.

I think people try to make God this hard thing that you have to accomplish…. And I don’t believe that.! God always came down on everybody else’s level he met them where they were broken into pieces! You are righteous you don’t need me! That’s what he said that’s what he repeated. Nobody is set above or beyond anybody else I wasn’t looking for you today but I found you because I’ve been praying to God. I’ve never been treated as well as I’ve been treated by this church ever in my life I’m 71 years old. I want to believe badly that the Mormon church is the church but like you I find it difficult to lie to myself God is simple yes only one thing that you believe in him and love him with all your heart and strive every day to be like him. It’s that simple.

I was raised Pentecostal Baptist catholic Methodist Lutheran never Mormon what brought me to church was family….There is goodness and wholeness! I’ve just been unable to swallow that Joseph Smith found these plates and wrote down the book of Mormon. He could’ve been a very firm believer in God he could’ve been a good man. Maybe he felt that was the only way to get people to follow. I don’t know sometimes and I go in circles about all this. Which tells me I know the truth. Right even though I don’t wanna admit it.

-=- I was raised Pentecostal Baptist catholic Methodist Lutheran-=- Thats too wide a range to have been "raised." Sounds more like visiting or dabbling. Changing that many times makes Mormonism just one more dabbling visit. :-) Church-hopping is interesting and illuminating, but it's not being raised, 18+ years, in a church.

I am a baptized member of the church but was away from the church for yrs and wanted to reconnect with it but now watching your video I can't in good faith follow a religion where a man took advantage of so many women and young girls. I agree I should let go of denominations and follow my heart and not the flawed views of these prophets. It just breaks my heart that so much of this faith is built on dark secrets. Also, the arrogance of how we view ourselves as the be all end all is what drove me away in the past. I hope God blesses you and your family and that you've truly found peace.

As a Baptist who has witnessed to Mormons who say that how can I believe what the Bible says without a prophet to tell me what it says. I’ve remarked to them that the Catholic Church says the same that I need a priest to tell me what the Bible says so who should I believe and it’s always just pray about it and ask God for the answer. And I say and if God says you’re both wrong what then? They say well we know that we have true prophets.

That would be my answer too about when I prayed to know what to do and which Church to take my family to. I think it was a coincidence that the Mormon missionaries knocked on my door at that moment. I think that most mormons would disagree but most other religions would agree with me. If it had been someone from their church though, then it would have been an answer. Confirmation bias.

I was in an oppressive cult in my youth. After I got out I was bitter and became atheistic for a while. But it dawned on me that I was judging God on the basis of what I had experienced in the cult. I took me a while to realize that that man was not God, nor was a reasonable facsimile of God. Therefore whether I was to believe or disbelieve had to be totally separated from my experiences.

The key to getting answers from God is to be open to the answer. You have free will and God will not violate that even if you ask. You need to ask God and tell him to show you where you are blocking him. God also has his time and that is rarely your time. God may keep you somewhere until the time is appropriate. Then and then only then will he have you somewhere else until the time is appropriate. Life is a journey; let God love you. Embrace the awkwardness of not getting your answer by embracing God. (Also God usually speaks in parables). The simplest way to enjoy life is: Let God love you everyday. That is success. Enjoy your journey.

God is real we should never give up on God . The lds church is false But that doesn’t make God any less true . I’m new to your channel I really love what you have to say ❤ I think we get into that mindset over the years that what we believe is the absolute truth so when people start deconstructing they throw everything out including God . I had a difficult time with my diconstruction and I know that I was led to a podcast that has been life changing ) opening up our understanding and broadening our learning can open doors that have been closed . There’s a whole beautiful world out there with Beautiful people who all have differing beliefs But the church keeps people locked in a box And over time we come to believe that thier is no other way , we know that that is not true but we don’t see it while we are living it . I highly recommended moment -“Let’s get biblical “ by Rabbi Tovia Singer these books have been life changing It’s just been a god send And we need to open up ourselves enough so that we can connect the dots For a wonderful Happy authentic life , putting Gods wisdom first and then loving people with all hearts and letting our light shine !!!! Thanks brother for shedding g Light on these difficult conversations Happy Holidays 🎄🎄🎄

I’m a life long member of the LDS church and I also have wrestled with a lot of the history of the church off and on but I keep coming back to the conclusion that my faith is not in the arm of flesh but in God and the teachings of Jesus Christ. So instead of focusing on all of the negative history of men I try to shift my focus to only the things that will strengthen my faith in Jesus Christ and do my best to follow Him. This means I have to tune out a lot of the emotions and feelings and strive to align my moral compass toward God. At the end of the day I know that I’m only accountable for my own sins. I do agree that we have to be careful to not confuse emotions with the Holy Spirit. Some times in prayer if I rephrase my prayer I receive an answer. I also know that God has the power to reach us in many ways. Even Jesus Christ spoke parables to the Jews in things that were familiar to them. In other words we can hear truth in however the Lord can reach us individually. God Bless.

And this may work for you, but the church makes demands of us, gives us expectations of ourselves and our families and members around us that can be overwhelming. What may work for you, may cause deep emotional trauma for your children and grandchildren. God is not making those demands and giving out expectations of them, fallible, opinionated human men are, and it does deep damage for some.
