"Where were the heals?" As someone who mained healing for about 15 years in my MMO career, i HATE people like that with a passion.
As someone that recently picked healing, I also hate people like this with a passion.
Also, people that does not read party chat when explaining mechanics, or does not even try to follow those mechanics.
As someone who play both tank and healer as main, i can say that i hate people doing that and when tanking i just use heal on myself (im a paladin and scholar main)
Best part? He whined about getting bored of the plot and easy combat so he bought a couple boosts and assembled a team to carry him. Lmao

I was leveling monk today and had a sprout tank that I can almost guarantee was from WoW because they refused to stop moving... The pain, the horror, the strife lol.

@@Sovek86 Which is fine, that's why Monk has Perfect Balance in the rotation and True North to help with mechanics limiting their movement.
Maybe but then he wasn't a good tank in wow either. It's not all that different in both games... At least for good tanks . Pull them together and then form a solid package for your dps while mitigating dmg, dishing it out yourself, etc. etc.
It's not like a reasonably good tank coming from wow is too stupid to know how positionals work.

I wouldn't call them stupid, especially new players that only play tank and don't realize the a monk literally has positionals on everything, it's not uncommon to see new tanks that move when it's not needed or just stuff like dodging and aoe and don't come back to their position after the indicator goes away so the boss repositions, it's just easy to guess certain MMOs those players might have come from where it isn't that big a deal.
@@mismismism I suppose that's true. It's definitely less of a concern in something like WoW. Could always point it out to them in a nice way ... I also started recently and sprouts generally take advice well.
Tbh I've already learned that players who already played a while AND do things wrong are the most allergic to criticism/suggestions.

Dark knight damage area should be bubblegum pink and baby blue.
The dark pool of dark energy that does dark damage of darkness got me.
Looking back at that clip of Quin, even if the aoes didnt overlap, he would still die. Even if he had full health after the Levinbolt. Only the tanks would survive one of those AOEs.

Now it makes perfect sense as to why every time I watch a wow player tanking in their first ffxiv fights, they dance back and forth and spin the mob.
So i have a very sprout question to ask. But first some background. When you tank (I'm a main tank, maybe not a good one, but I am) and pull wall to wall you take a MASSIVE amount of damage. When I start to die if it happens I run side to side through the mobs. This way the mobs at the back have to stop attacking me and run forward. This always reduces damage and the mobs as a whole don't really move too far. They're still in the aoe circles placed down and easily hittable. There's no positional's on any aoe attacks so why do I keep being told to stop? I legitimately don't understand. Its not like I do that for bosses so whats the problem? Pls and tanks. hehe xD
My guesses are A: The dungeon you're in twists enough that you're making the healer's job more stressful via blocking LoS on their heals to you
B: Caster AoEs might still be hitting, but melee DPS still have a range limit for attacks, and if they're aimed at something that walks away, it can fuck with their combo, and depending on level, many melees don't even see their AoE combo till like, 30 or higher, iirc Dragoon has the painful indignity of waiting till friggin 42
C: If you're starting to die you have defensives and the party isn't seeing you using them
Lol, I love getting in eden groups with a tank with 30k less hp that has provoke in their rotation. I just turn my tank stance off and let the hilarity ensue.

13:33 As a healer main, and especially a scholar main, pulling wall to wall is literally all I want tanks to do. Stop wasting time, we haven't even gotten to the point where I have to stop dealing damage yet.
@He Judged well I define healing as avoiding your death, more than just abilities that gain you hp, but scholar has plenty of tools for that too without getting in the way of my book slamming
Also yeah, it happens sometimes, but so many people just stick to single or double pulls it hurts
My rule of thumb, at the start of the dungeon ask my healer "Big???" If they say yes, we wall to wall
If you died as a tank, it is your fault for not tanking harder. Tanks never die.

2:45 just reminds me of my last raid: my friend was main tank, other tank left, we got a new off tank, no stance on said tank, battle commences... They have stance but they're standing behind with the rest of the party. End up taking enmity for the smallest amount of seconds ... Just in time for that sweet cleave.

AS Main Tank i will stand still and Not move except the enemy can't be stun or the floor has change, and if there i become Off Tank i will Turn off my tank stance, if i meet people like you i will give all my amity and i will tell healer to not heal you or i will give All my amity to healer and turn off my tank stance and lets see you has the alpha tank. The duty of tank is make sure the enemy or boss not hit party, the duty of off tank is make sure the enemy soldier or seperated 2nd boss or if main tank in danger and pass amity at off tank and pass it again when main ready.
I haven't played in a while but I'm a healer main and I've had quite a few Tanks that are like him...

When I first started playing Dark Knight I actually kept running away from my own Salted Earth.
Yeah I had a party back then which both tanks have their stance on in Tsukuyomi. No one wants to turn off their stance. The other tank is positioned with us dps and healers. We were avoiding him because we were afraid he will snatch the boss' attention towards him and we're all gonna die but he kept on sticking with us. I guess because he's not familiar with the mechanics and he thought where we are will always be the safe zone. So our nightmare became a reality, when he finally got the boss emnity, the boss is casting a tankbuster in our general direction and before we squishy peeps can even run away we were already hit so all of us except the two tanks fell on the floor. So it's not always a good thing especially if the tank doesn't know where he should position himself.
Quin 69 was a not that great of a tank. Dude story and level skipped and did not learn the class and diss story despite never playing it. then Blamed healer like a dumass. I wonder if he got the Joecat vidio sent to him after those clips.

The whole turning your tank stance off thing irks me. One tank is going to hold aggro regardless. Whoever gets it gets it and the other guy backs off a bit so that you don't trade back and forth. Give him 4 seconds or so and you'll never pull off him so long as you're not absolutely balls to the wall and spamming provoke.
THERE IS A REASON FOR THIS!
If HE DIES... and YOUR TANK STANCE IS OFF... Provoke is the ONLY thing that will get the boss on you. If there is more than one target, or adds are up at the time... SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET ATE.
If your tank stance is ON, and you just let him get ahead of you enough so that the chart looks like this.
Him->you->a big FUCKING GAP->EVERYONE ELSE
Then if the main tank dies, ALL OF THAT SHIT goes to you, seamlessly... no provoke needed, they just come to you, cause you're second place. And then the mt can be ressed and use his provoke to get the boss back if needed, or he can build back up and be #2 to you from that point on.
The stance dancing is needlessly complicated for less results.

Dude, you don't even get to be a dark knight until lvl 50 in Heavensward. If you just skip to the end of ARR or HW and get butthurt that you can't differentiate between an enemy attack (A big Neon-Orange circle for those who have no idea) and an ally's ability/skill/ect. looks like, you deserve your Darwin award.
My only problem with this video is the horrible and near unforgivable misinformation it gives out to players.

Our AOE does not do “dark” damage it does SALT damage! We then later modify it WITH dark damage in endwalker but it is still, primarily SALT damage. Thus the name.. SALTED earth.
Wait hol up... people say monk is hard? bro, literally you get 2 self heals early on. you just have a restricted move rotation. Handily if you read your tooltips and how your moves shift between 3 forms, you're a god of dps! Nevermind you get a insta'heal for emergency when the healer is lacking or focused on the tank who's getting fucked, plus the other heal move grants heals per attack... which means the faster you drop your moves the more you heal, which means you could afford to get a little lazy when aoe is dropped because you'd heal it back quick. Nevermind your stuns, self buffs, enemy debuffs, i mean it's no more complicated as a caster! I even started with the pugilist. It's my main!
Really, just like any and all abilities, read your tool tips. Monk/pugilist benifits greatly if you know the move rotations and what they do!
I started as Bard in Heavensward, and back then that had a ground aoe attack that tanks would run away from all the time. It was called Flaming Arrow and it would put a circle of fire on the ground that did damage over time. So many tanks would run away from that thing back then causing its damage to go to waste...
Suggestions, put timestamps in for when you do your useless talking/non-reaction so a 3 minute video doesnt turn into 20.....oh wait you're starved for content aren't you?

As an AST main and omnihealer, Superbolide is by far the best invuln that isn't hallowed ground. It only makes healers panic if they don't know kits and are new.

Before ShB each tank skill had a different enmity gain stat. So sometime we did indeed spam shield throw.

Eh, sometimes the other tank provokes the boss but I regain aggro anyway coz the other tank cannot keep up with my ridiculous damage.
I've had this problem, especially in groups with a scholar in it. Between the frequent heals and constant DPS, he will pull aggro off things, sometimes that I cant even get a rotation done without one of the mobs deciding that the healer is more dangerous

As a main GB i can confirm that I can out enmity any tank without the use of taunt............but then I go plop on tank buster
Same problem with the Demon Hunter in WoW and their dark field. I think there's a buff that can be applied to it that extends to other players or something, I forget it's been a while, but even during combat *I* would move out of it if I wasn't on my Demon Hunter and someone else put it down because I'd think "danger!" and avoid it.
It looks cool, admittedly, but it's shit design to put something menacing in front of player characters as a beneficial effect. No one is going to do their research or react the way you want them to to it.
Players run away from anything with a shape, sometimes you see people fleeing fucking AST and NIN persistent AoEs, the menace factor is a bit of an issue, but also people are stupid about circles
And there is a bit of consistent language to AoEs, player AoE pools tend to just be rings, where enemy pools actually are filled in and cover the floor inside the circle
Big brain play - you move the boss so that the dps with positionals dont have to move and still be able to hit flanks and rear 😎
Anytime you join a raid with other tanks you must immediately assert dominance.

Also I hate Living Dead. So much. I like my tanks, and after using Hallowed Ground on flexing trash pulls...good god. Living Dead is the worst one. It doesn't warn your healer with a heart attack, they just just think "oh ok he's just using a stubborn ability I can just chill for a bi- wait why're we all dead wtf bad tank" because they HAVE to heal 100% of hp for me to live, whereas the others don't. Gunbreaker might give the healer a heart attack but you have a much higher chance of living and not just...flopping over because you didn't get 1 more healing spell. Sorry for that rant. >_>
I mained ninja through ARR and I feel like the Dark Knights and I kept freaking each other out with our resoective AOE circles.
If another tank wants to try to take hate off me, I don't really care. I'd rather the mob be stationary so the DPS can do their thing. That said, to make sure I'm second the hate list, I'll turn it back on shortly before the other tank dies, because they usually do. I then stand on their dead body. "Want to measure d---s? Let me give you a good view."

As a Nin... I feel the AOE tank leading the damn boss away from it stuff... Tanks are the FFXIV equivalent of people who eat paint chips.
I know this is late but man, as a dragoon in HW when we got that dragon tether, so many players had no idea what it was and would run to break it cause that same expansion taught them how to break chains XD

Real question here. At times I get so excited that I do occasionally to little shuffle dances while tanking a boss. Have I been making my dps' jobs way more harder then it needed to be???
Depends on the distance in those dances, if you look at the boss, there's a 45° section in his back that doesn't have the lines of the targeting circle, that's what marks what counts as 'rear'. Melee DPSers have to be able to swap between rear and flanks at a moments notice when their rotation demands it. If your shuffle dances are rotating the boss too much, they can miss their intended position and lose damage and/or other bonuses. It's better to stand still when possible.

You just gotta groove and dash everywhere. (While also balancing the other effing dancers technical dance buff in a timer with your crit buff to line up on your dance partners rotation while using Saber dance to drain your esprit, your other dance step buff and an rng combo in an rng combo in an button to just nuke it all down.)
....but as a healer main myself. Cards go slap!

I went to a training dummy an added one skill to my bar at a time and practiced until I had all abilities on my bar and learned my rotations. It’s actually a pretty easy class.

what does it mean to "drop your rotation"?
Rotation usually indicates which order you use skills (and then repeat them, ie: rotation). So dropping your location would mean (I assume) to break from your habit to play more optimally at the moment.
