One thing I genuinely like about the Ranged DPS is that you feel like a dancer, engineer or bard in terms of pressing buttons. Bard like playing music, has a steady beat your cycle through like a time signature, with flashes of flair based on your procs. While dancer is like going full improvised dancer, going as the "passion" does, and follow the flow, rather then adhering to a ridged machine format like the Machinist does. Where every tool is made to be used at a specific time in a specific sequence (in a good way).
As a Dancer main, this is exactly how I feel, too. I feel like my fingers are dancing across the keyboard (Granted, I guess that's more about my keybindings, but still)
As someone who started and ended msq with archer/bard, I never thought of my rotation like a beat, but in retrospect, that is actually a great way to describe it!
Playing dancer really is just doing all the spinnies in the world and watching your new best friend and temporary life partner dps #1 do the thing you should be doing while you aggressively flip coins in the background hoping for those sweet sweet fourfolds. I love it so much.
"endangered species" as a descriptor for dots is incredibly apt, especially since I really wouldn't be all that shocked if they took them away from BRD in 7.0

@@treedude4246 Ideally they would put said dots on something like a Green Mage. Y'know, a Final Fantasy class that has traditionally had some sort of DoTs in their toolkit. I've never understood why two iconic classes like Bard and Summoner even had the things as a core part of their damage rotation to begin with. But I am also fairly traditionalist when it comes to Final Fantasy, so many wont agree with me. Don't get me wrong I love classes like the Reaper and Sage, but if Square is going to use iconic classes that have regularly appeared in previous titles the least they can do is make an actual effort to keep the theme of said class similar to previous titles.
@@solaris8260MNK has one, Demolish, which they can apply when in Coeurl stance. And WHM has Aero/Dia, which lasts 30 seconds so it should usually be up unless they really can't squeeze it in because everyone is standing in the fire. I haven't played every class yet so I'm sure there are others.
Everything with Machinist was great, and Dancer was perfect with the musical interludes! Can't ever get enough of this, Jocat! And can't wait for you to do my main with Magical Ranged DPS!

When he low key called them supports I laughed hard. Ranged used to be only bard and bard's LB used to be a healing one. The songs also used to buff your allies by far larger amounts. Hell the mage's ballad used to increase mana regen for the group.

I’ll never forget the Dancer job quest. Usually the job quests bored the hell out of me but I went through them just to get the job, but Dancer’s made me stop and enjoy every second of it
I especially loved the call back to FF9 with the dancer theme being the chocobo hot & cold theme. Drag forth the audience's deepest fears and regrets into a manifested mass and dance it to death!
Yeah, dancer does a good job of justifying itself. They are basically societal surgeons, and they learn how to fight because...well... just ask any sage. The tumors around here fight back when you try to cut them out.
You know you now have to do a full version of that little Dancer ditty like you did for Spooky Slice, right? JK, love Dancer, favorite ranged class, super fun!
As someone with all regular classes at 90, the best way to level a class is to do your roulettes and do fates/ beast tribes while you wait on queues. That's honestly the long and short of it. Everything else is just how much time you're willing to put into it.

Unlock scholar too, even if you don't plan to use it straight away Summoner and Scholar level up at the same time since they are linked to the same base class. So when you do decide to give support a go you will already have a leveled healer to try out.

As someone who started with archer, and beat endwalker with Bard, you were completely accurate in your description. Haven't played much Machinist in a bit, but that also sounded really accurate. We may not hit as hard as others, but we still get the job done. Great video as ever!

not to get too of topic, but i back the aspca, peta is kind of the lunatic version of that, strident, fanatical and some of their policies are actively harmful to animals because of ideaology. you can love animals and still feel that peta does way more harm than good.

Ranged dps starts very dull compared to other dps classes, especially if you choose ranger/bard as your starting class; but definitely keep at it! Once they pass 50 and start getting more of their special moves they are a blast to play.
@@caosisaac I am indeed starting out as Archer! Currently level 18 and on MSQ level 15. I really like Archer so far, so I'm definitely keeping it going. I look forward to getting to higher levels for sure! Once I start unlocking those songs, that'll be a real treat.

What he also didnt (probably for legal reasons) mention is there are sites you can find where you can copy scripts to auto play certain fan created songs so you can put on grand performances if you want! I dont have a bard yet myself but its close on my agenda to level and i plan on snagging a few harp or piano covers of some kingdom hearts songs to play at my leisure haha. The ranged dps i have the most experience with is my lvl 80 dancer.

When the video appeared in my recommended, I thought it was just one of the old videos reappearing ... then I suddenly noticed it was posted *hours* ago. 👀 I might have mentioned this in another video, but you're actually the reason I started playing. For a time, I told myself I'd rather revisit WoW than start another old subscription MMO. It was your video talking about getting into it that I finally decided to try. 😊 I'm glad I did, because while it's not hugely different, there are some key differences that make me feel more connected and immersed. For example, there's much more emphasis on story, and the way the NPCs talk to me and make eye contact with my character, it makes me feel like I'm an actual part of the story. It feels so much better than WoW's quests, where an NPC turns in your general direction and shows you a page of quest text. Also, while WoW has recurring "hero characters" who occasionally show up to take the spotlight from you, FFXIV has a cast of characters who accompany you along the way and make you feel loved and appreciated. I recently did a Shadowbringers MSQ where something happened to me, then I got back to find the others were looking for me and worrying about me. 🥺
THIS WAS EVERYTHING I WAS HOPING FOR AND MORE! As a dancer main, gotta admit, JoCat is 100% spot on. 😆 The only thing I would add is the healing dance and shield samba can majorly save a party when the healers are struggling to get rezs.

As a bard main, I can confirm, a fancy hat (or coat for those who can’t wear them) is mandatory. When I was thinking of playing FF14 I was actually in your twitch chat asking questions. And I ended up getting recommended a ranged class based on my general play style of either mobility with consistent damage, or a tank. I ended up picking Archer to get used to playing ranger with the ultimate goal of going to machinist, and the ability to get big cool hats was also a bonus… well my machinist is still sub 50 and my bard is maxed and I took it to attempt my first current patch savage today (p4s). Something about it just worked for me.
I really hope JoCat makes BLU its own separate video about how it is objectively the best and most fun job of them all, and not just a footnote in the caster video.
Important Note: Stormblood is not being added to the Free Trial. When purchasing FF14, you can either purchase a Starter Edition that is... basically just ARR and Heavensward like the Free Trial, but without the Free Trial restrictions like the level cap, gil cap, or social restrictions, but still requires a paid subscription, or you can just purchase Endwalker directly and get everything. People who were suckered into just buying the Starter Edition can now add Stormblood to their account for free while the promotion lasts (until May 8th I think). I enjoy the Dancer quest too but I most enjoyed the darkknight Level 30-50 quest. But every Job quest is good when you like it:)

Really love the guide! (That said, yes, ranged can stand wherever, but that bard backflip is still a joke. Rarely actually helps me because getting away from the boss is usually not an issue to begin with because that's not my place to be in the first place, and when AOEs drop all over the arena, getting away from the boss won't really help. Gimme dancer dash, let me gracefully accidentally dash over cliffs like a dragoon!)

not to get too of topic, but i back the aspca, peta is kind of the lunatic version of that, strident, fanatical and some of their policies are actively harmful to animals because of ideaology. you can love animals and still feel that peta does way more harm than good.
@@ryanweible9090 Yeah, I was just saying that PETA's crap isn't anything to laugh about in itself; sometimes not even going for strays, but kidnapping dogs out of people's yards that are chained up, and killing them, for one thing. So when I was calling myself an actual animal lover, I was overall saying in comparison to those idiots who just kill animals out of nowhere and even make up complete bovine crap like reasons not to shear sheep.

Ranged dps starts very dull compared to other dps classes, especially if you choose ranger/bard as your starting class; but definitely keep at it! Once they pass 50 and start getting more of their special moves they are a blast to play.
@@caosisaac I am indeed starting out as Archer! Currently level 18 and on MSQ level 15. I really like Archer so far, so I'm definitely keeping it going. I look forward to getting to higher levels for sure! Once I start unlocking those songs, that'll be a real treat.
@@mythicmysticmoon im glad you are enjoying it! Another special thing about bard you may already know that jocat mentioned is theyre the only class that can play instruments. What he also didnt (probably for legal reasons) mention is there are sites you can find where you can copy scripts to auto play certain fan created songs so you can put on grand performances if you want!
I dont have a bard yet myself but its close on my agenda to level and i plan on snagging a few harp or piano covers of some kingdom hearts songs to play at my leisure haha. The ranged dps i have the most experience with is my lvl 80 dancer.

I, myself, play clarinet and already have a bunch of songs from video games and movies and such that I transcribed written down. So I have a good repitoire to go through. When the video appeared in my recommended, I thought it was just one of the old videos reappearing ... then I suddenly noticed it was posted *hours* ago. 👀
I might have mentioned this in another video, but you're actually the reason I started playing. For a time, I told myself I'd rather revisit WoW than start another old subscription MMO. It was your video talking about getting into it that I finally decided to try. 😊 I'm glad I did, because while it's not hugely different, there are some key differences that make me feel more connected and immersed. For example, there's much more emphasis on story, and the way the NPCs talk to me and make eye contact with my character, it makes me feel like I'm an actual part of the story. It feels so much better than WoW's quests, where an NPC turns in your general direction and shows you a page of quest text.
Also, while WoW has recurring "hero characters" who occasionally show up to take the spotlight from you, FFXIV has a cast of characters who accompany you along the way and make you feel loved and appreciated. I recently did a Shadowbringers MSQ where something happened to me, then I got back to find the others were looking for me and worrying about me. 🥺
Yup. Mch is my comfort class. It's my main job and I do story content with it. Because it's easy. And it does a lot of damage.

THIS WAS EVERYTHING I WAS HOPING FOR AND MORE! As a dancer main, gotta admit, JoCat is 100% spot on. 😆 The only thing I would add is the healing dance and shield samba can majorly save a party when the healers are struggling to get rezs.

As a bard main, I can confirm, a fancy hat (or coat for those who can’t wear them) is mandatory. When I was thinking of playing FF14 I was actually in your twitch chat asking questions. And I ended up getting recommended a ranged class based on my general play style of either mobility with consistent damage, or a tank. I ended up picking Archer to get used to playing ranger with the ultimate goal of going to machinist, and the ability to get big cool hats was also a bonus… well my machinist is still sub 50 and my bard is maxed and I took it to attempt my first current patch savage today (p4s). Something about it just worked for me.

Final Fantaqsy XIV is an amazing MMO and I hear they have a free trial that includes Heavensward up to level 60 AND NOW STORMBLOOD.
