Yeah it depends on time of day, but when I could heal or tank and usually find those more fun in dungeons, I dont bother muchh

Defensive skills are for dps because you take less damage, so need less healing, so healers spend less time healing you and more time dealing dps
where on the whole video did u see any rampart....?

Yes, this, exactly. This is why I wish Mog station would lock out anyone from buying level skip items unless they have a character with a class at the level it skips to.

@@mr.gasmask8585 Yeah, if you really don't want to level a class, you can just buy level skips. Useful for players who've maxed out at least one class, utterly horrible for newbies who don't know the game.
Hot take, if people wanna skip let them skip, Echo and Limited did so and are better raiders then 90% of the original players. Touch some grass.
@@imaran1303 Alright, gonna break this down into two parts.
1) That's an Ice Cold take, don't know where you thought it was hot from. "Just let players skip most of the game" is an idea that's been around for quite a while and according to most studies and examples is not a good idea.
The only games that allow it are ones that either have greedy devs who don't really care about player enjoyment, or like FF14 have a lengthy process involved in leveling *_multiple times._*
Which leads into #2
2) Most players aren't Team Echo or Team Limited. Team Echo and Team Limited were already dedicated Raiding Guilds in WoW. They can by no means be described as a "New Player" for any longer than it takes for them to *read the tooltips* and practice a little bit.
This is a team that is already familiar with coordination, the idea of ability rotations and OGCDs, and boss mechanics.
How many players coming to FFXIV are dedicated Raiding Groups? How many players are members of Top 3 Raiding Guilds moving to a similar game? How many players are literally coming to FFXIV as an already existing group?
They are the exception, not the rule.
I love the "read your tool tips" bit. I always read mine, sometimes multiple times, because I'm a dumb person who retains information very poorly. I even forget what I just read as soon as I finished reading it. One day, I hope to have a job fully memorized.

I play healer. I always commend the best glamour. It doesn't matter how much you suck if you know you're looking good while doing it!
Let's spread the new commend law:
Tank commend healer, Healer commend tank, each dps commend the other, unless it's 8 men, then it's a hell to coordinate
I feel like the healer commend dps (because good dps means the fight is shorter and you dont have to heal so much), dps commend tank (because a good tank makes the dps easier) and tank commend healer (because obv reason)

Funny thing about the tiny bit of damage section, he used Alexander as an example... when on one of the videos made just to put the battle theme out on youtube there was a group that in the middle of the lockdown time is stopped autowipe mechanic Alexander died... because of a dot that someone got off on him just before the mechanic started.

No, ya silly sausage- Rampart improves DPS by keeping you alive, thereby avoiding multiple seconds of 0-DPS while the healer raises you and a subsequent _minute_ of lowered DPS from the 'near-death' debuff.
A paladin that pulls back from the mechanics AoE and just spams Shield Toss on cooldown while it pops (or even just sits there with a thumb up their ass if the AoE is too wide to toss past) is still dealing more deeps over the course of the entire fight than a pally who sits there, facetanks the hit, and then has to deal with 'Near Death' for the next 60 seconds.
I'll admit, when they BACKFILLED abilities, but I was already lvl 80 RDM, I didn't see those new AOE abilities for MONTHS..... Verthunder 2 and Veraero 2 were not on my bar for way too long, because I didn't even know those abilities EXISTED until I accidently pressed P and saw "what are these?"...... felt sheepish, but they didn't even EXIST when I levelled the class.
That's why you check what's changed every job rework.
Your first mistake is giving a new player a lvl 80 Sam...Sam is not hard unless you dont take steps to learn it step by step

Defensive abilities still help deal damage because there's less heals the healer has to toss you meaning more deeps.

Come on we all know you commend based on the best Glam role doesn't matter.
You are wrong ruri. Rampart does not contribute to DPS by standing in mechanics getting vulnerability stacks for you to deal more damage. You play a PLD you should know that is NOT how you use Rampart. You have hollowed ground for that! Stand in mechanics that deal 0 dmg to you AND prevents you from getting vuln stacks! PLUS now the healer can just put a regen on you so it can concentrate in dealing even MORE damage!....for 7 seconds BUT! 7 seconds od raw, unadulterated damage can make a huge difference.

Yeaaaahhh, we do have to wait. But I try to be the first back in range when it's safe, using Shoulder Charge. Though, you can buff those who CAN attack from afar with Brotherhood. Or at higher level, charge Anatman.
The tank is the go to zero thought virgin option to commend. If you commend the DPS either you have been paying attention and noticed they did well. or you really like their Glam.
Best Glam is a perfectly valid reason to commend

I too use tank cds to stand in aoes xD mostly in dal or cll dont care about my 15 badges of honor cause fell cleave go BRRRRRRR!!!!
I usually commend the one who plays best, unless they are about equal then i give it to the DPS.

I always commend healer because it's the one role I don't want to play and I appreciate them lol
The Rampart bit. That one is more like it's a free ability to use so you don't take a humongous amount of auto-attack damage from the mobs you're tanking so the healer can spend last time healing you and more time DPSing.

But lets be real even the not sprouts will be lost if they somehow got to level 80 but never read what their skills do. They'll just wonder why they keep getting kicked from parties and wipe every raid
As a healer main I disagree, healers deserve all the commends. We have to babysit and keep everyone alive when they suck at dodging things while also having to do dps. Tank just pops a stance and do dps. I NEED more commends damn it!
If there's one good thing NA does its giving commends to healers, was so easy when I played there. But when I went EU they SUCK at commending healer, even if you revive a guy like 5 times in a dungeon the dude still wont commend you in most cases.

DPS is my favorite class type in FFXIV. I don't like Healing, and Tanking I can do just not my preferred way to play. Dragoon, Reaper, and Bard are all really fun to play as long as you pay attention.

Dps’s job is making sure everyone gets to do as much dps as possible.
Not just them.
So using defensive skills with the tank, and timing their personal regen abilities helps mitigate damage the Healer needs to heal on both them and the tank. Thus, Healer can do more Dps, Tank doesn’t have to burn any extra defensive cooldowns for a bit, and their ability to mitigate damage lasts longer.
Thus, healer does more damage with things under control.
And dps with buffs? Well, the more people you hit with em the more damage everyone does. It’s really quite simple. A decent Dps does their combos and pulls their weight.
A great Dps however knows how to play their role to a T, being able to mitigate damage, roll through their combos, and dodge Aoes while keeping the Healer free to keep on throwing magic at the boss.

Did you know that the average Yu-Gi-Oh player will go months without ever reading their cards?
So it makes perfect sense for people to never read their tooltips in a game where they can skip every main story cutscene and go back to leveling their guy to unlock more buttons.
I actually did get SAM just from tooltips. But EW Summoner? Geez, that was overwhelming.
Rampart is for DPS because the less damage you take, the more time the healer can spend spamming that one DPS attack. Boom.
I guess the serious way Rampart helps with DPS is by meaning the healer doesn't have to heal you as often, so they can DPS more
Just because an action isn't a direct dps increase to your role/character, doesn't mean it isn't a dps increase for another players role/character.

Rampart let's your healer deal damage rather than healing you, yes the purpose of rampart is to let dps continue

Yup. Any skills/spells that can ruin your combo will no longer do so in patch 6.0 onwards

Nah as a tank you are to collect stacks and prove how good you are by facetanking a tankbuster with 5+ stacks and not die.

I thought healing was the simplest job until I tried tanking, its really just put on your stance and stand in the right spot. Gratz, you're tanking.
Man why do people think dps don't deserve commendations :( If they do well in a dungeon, they do all the mechanics and don't die, I'm commending them. Good job dps, without you doing everything right the dungeon would've taken forever and a day
Yeah learning Sam is next to impossible for me lol. When I first unlocked it and my friends told me the basics of how it worked I did fine and got it to 80. But a few months ago when I was considering trying to learn its proper rotation when I wanted to change things up from Monk and went to a guide and tried to follow it I didn't know what the fuck they were saying or what abilities they were on about and gave up. Fuck that shit lol.
I am a Monke main, and I decided to get gunbreaker as my backup class. So I bought lvl 80 boost for it so I won't lost time with its leveling or class quests, so I can focus on my monk and main story
I gave up on trying to learn Samurai. The combos are like goddamn spiderwebs.
I got 6 commendations in a raid a couple days ago as a RDM because everybody got wiped except for me in the tank and we took them down the rest of the way from 3%. I tried to get one of the healers back up but they died almost right away from a mechanic and I was low on MP.

Personally I think they should have like basic combos in a literal menu and how they work for every class. So you don't go hours not realizing some random ogcd triggers the main big chain. Sometimes the tooltips don't even tell you what combos into what so it can get confusing fast.
Would make trying out new jobs and preparing hotbars a lot better. Atm its better to just Google a good basic rotation or combo and go off that like most games. Which might scare people away if they accidentally run into an ultimate rotation spreadsheet lmao. Made the mistake of showing that to a casual friend once
