    Cool bike! Back 'in the day' the Schwinn Sting Ray was the bike to have. Closest I had when I was a kid was an AMF 'Renegade' in a really beautiful orange/copper paint that sparkled in the sun like metalflake paint. Always wanted a Schwinn Sting Ray so two years ago I bought a new reissue Sting Ray in sky blue with silver/gray forks and silver/gray/blue chainguard. Mine has the small diameter seven-hole front chainring which I believe was called the 'lucky 7' chainring which makes for very easy putting around town but is not so great for distance riding because of a lot of leg cranking. I also like the original style handlebars the reissue ones have a narrower width handlebar which I believe Schwinn went to in the later production years for safety concerns. I put an aftermarket chrome front fender and 'vintage style' bullet headlight on mine I get a lot of compliments on it. Totally enjoy riding it. Great to see an original in such good shape regardless of the worn paint.

      Thanks Thomas glad you enjoyed the video I have a lot more old banana seat/stingray videos on a playlist on my channel if you’re interested I know exactly what bike you have very cool I believe they originally ran that color scheme in the mid to late 70s they also had a green/yellow one that I’ve also really dug hopefully this summer I’ll be able to put a few more bike videos out thanks for watching

    Arnold and Schwinn were two separate people, the bike is a dream!

    • @HansensSpeedShop
      @HansensSpeedShop  2 роки тому

      Yes I know they were two different people I believe I mentioned that in the video Arnold was an investor that gave Schwinn the money to really get the company going, by the late 60s Schwinn bought Arnold’s shares in the company out and the AS was gone, yes 2 people like Harley Davidson, glad you dig the bike I’m so happy to own it, thanks for watching

      Really what makes this bike the most special is that it was made in opal violet which was only produced in a very small quantity, glad you dig the bike more to come and there’s a lot more muscle bike and banana seat bike videos on my channel, thanks for watching

    Great video and bike. I always thought the springers were so cool. I think the solo polo seats looked better than the banana seats and the square back sissy bar made it easier to slip off the back of the seat if you accidentally popped up too far pulling a wheelie. I agree that the color was awesome. I think the more robust stem was a good idea with the springer and the handel bars were much better looking than the newer style.

    Never could afford a Schwinn Stingray as a kid (1960's) but I did have a Huffy that I customized with the metal flake banana seat and grips. I also put on a tall sissy bar and the rear cheater slick. Always wanted the springer fork for mine. Great old bike!

    Very nice early super deluxe. I have bee collecting stingrays for many years. It’s almost like an addiction. The violets & limes are my favorite colors. I have 4 super deluxe in copper, blue, violet & lime. A red 1963 1/2, early standard red 1964, standard blue 1964, standard violet 1964, 1969 orange krate, 1970 Lemon peeler & one of the very first late 1964 lime slik chic. All of them 100% all original and still in my collection & I have bought & sold just about everything Schwinn stingray 1963-1973. I love these old bikes & can’t stop! I might need an intervention?

    Over here on the east coast they were referred to as Banana bikes because the seat shape resembled a banana .

    • @HansensSpeedShop
      @HansensSpeedShop  8 місяців тому

      I heard people refer to them as banana seat bikes banana bikes but that era is referred to as the muscle bike era because the bikes began to be styled after cars hot rods dragsters ect. even most of the names were automotive related especially once the slicks and stick shift bikes came out

    Beautiful bike. But just to let you know. Your bike is just a regular J33 stingrays with aftermarket non schwinn Springer. Not a Super Deluxe. Super deluxe had chrome chainguard and fenders. Late 64 square back. The solo polo is the early 63 dog ear persons seat, very sought after. Couldnt see if the rims were center stamped. But Everything else looks correct. I know the original Springer are going for big bucks and hard to find. Love the bike tho.

    • @HansensSpeedShop
      @HansensSpeedShop  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the info and thanks for checking it out, I know the rear wheel is the correct 36 spoke center stamp wheel and I’m not positive on the front, I know the fork isn’t correct but it’s the best I can do since original ones are way expensive and this is just a rider not a show piece

    • @Schwinn_Addiction
      @Schwinn_Addiction 2 роки тому

      That 36 spoke rim is a rare piece as well, used on 63 stingrays and early 64's.

  • @JasonB33

    The springer steer tube where the pivot bolt goes should be rounded on the bottom. The one on your bike is not original . I’m sure you know this though.

    • @HansensSpeedShop
      @HansensSpeedShop  2 роки тому

      Yes I know it’s what I had to work with at the time I tried to make everything else as correct as possible, someday if I come across the correct fork and it’s reasonable priced maybe I’ll swap it out but for now since the bikes just a rider it’s fine, thanks for checking it out

  • @asasinphoto
    @asasinphoto 2 роки тому

    OK I know a lot of us know this definitely NOT A SUPER DELUXE. Possibly a J33, but not even the Springer fork is Original. Chainguard is incorrect for a SUPER DELUXE. The SD Were chromed with a paint in the center.
    Cool bike but not a Original SUPER DELUXE 😉

    • @HansensSpeedShop
      @HansensSpeedShop  2 роки тому +1

      That’s what I was told the frame was when I got it the chainguard is original to this frame and it is original paint and it is an original springer fork bike the fork is a Schwinn just off a newer model I tried to make the bike as correct as possible I don’t think it’s to bad considering I have around $800 invested in the bike and I know it’s probably worth triple that

    • @asasinphoto
      @asasinphoto 2 роки тому

      I'm thinking it is a J33, In my opinion it's much more rare bike.

      Im trying to build my 1968 schwinn delux out in Hawaii. I wanted to add a springer fork. I have a springer but it seem to come off of a crate bike. I put it on but it seems to be alittle high. The tire seems to be about 5 inches away from the steering tube. I measures the straight truss rods from bolt to bolt. It's 20 inches long. Just doesn't look right. What size springer do I really need if im using a 20 inch s7 tire and rim.
