Truly beautiful bikes of which transcend time. I’m excited to get my back 66 Stingray Deluxe back together! The drag racing was pretty darn cool too! :)
SCHWINN FOR THE WINN ! Speaking of Schwinn Bikes, i had a Schwinn Varcity 10 speed in 1969, it was a solid Transportation Bike, i used to ride to the closest city from my home which was 27 miles away, I would ride there twice a weekend, took lesss than two hours, without breaking a sweat, and return for dinner. Those bikes were fast.
My bike was a banana seat Columbia that was a fantastic bike. I loved my bike. It was good looking as the others in it’s time. When I was 16 in high school I extended the front fork and then custom painted it adding then raised lettered tires. I wish I still had it today. I’m 61
That was some fun in the sun, thanks for sharing your big day of bikes and good eats. And I rode my Sting-Ray hard from the Summer of Love in San Francisco until the summer of '75 in Frankfurt, West Germany--we moved overseas from Pacifica in late '74 because my Dad was always up for new adventures. And my thumbnail was a moment in early '75 when my Dad walked over from our apartment building and snapped a few photos as I was doing my Evel Knievel thing and missing my friends in Pacifica and just having fun on my Sting-Ray.
this is sooo bitchin!!! reminds me of my bicycle drag racing days. one night, a kid on a souped up mongoose had his crank kick the bearing out at full speed. he went into a barrel roll and didn't jettison the bike until the third or fourth time over. that launched the bike skyward and he walked away with a broken collar bone. I scattered a tire once and almost had to lay the bike down before I got it stopped.
