This shopping experience obviously isn't for someone on my humble money, but I refuse to ignore the value of this collection.
It's nearly invaluable, one of a kinds, and items that won't ever be made exactly the same way again.
There's something romantic and precious about what this retailer has achieved.
I support them, if not by wallet by well-wishes.
From a torch against an evening sky on a South Floridian Riviera...cheers.
@@ayylmao8562 Its it beutiful! Just because you are small minded and can't see this is art doesn't mean they can't!!!
Aiden Lynch
Yeah that was a bad comment, sorry about that, I think I just found his comment to be kind superfluous or pretentious, you’re right.
@@ayylmao8562 Omg, you are so nice, I feel so bad lol! As someone who works in the fashion industry I'm use to people acting like that!
Aiden Lynch
No it’s ok, don’t feel bad I have lot old comments that are honestly horrible, I’m kind of ashamed, I don’t know what was going on with me at the time.
@@ayylmao8562 😁🤣❤
I love her because she doesnt have a bougie attitude and is very open to everyone
Vinny Guerrero she is literally the opposite of everything you just said.
She vets everyone and turned down 6 figures for a dead bird clip in-that’s so bougie, even migos would shake their damn head😳
in time If the piece is rare and the only of its kind, you shouldn’t sell. It will become a priceless piece of history. If she was bougie she would have sold it for a lot of money
l thought it was just me...
Vinny Guerrero
Then why is there in the shop if it's not for sale?
"The Way We Wore" is a better shop in L.A. ran by a lovely woman named Doris Raymond. She also has 2 floors, but no vetting. If u truly care about fashion and fashion history, Doris will welcome you.
What a cool woman, the fashion industry needs more women like her. Hope that store has good security!!!
and fire preventative measures
yes that store have armed security
Joe Wong oh you know it!
That’s what I was thinking
Ha, she assured me it does! And I'm sure she has insurance.
I lived at the Hotel Chelsea and worked at a vintage store on 28th street in the 1990s. Must have been just before this shop opened. We loaned tons of items every day for editorial, except 1920s dresses had paillettes made of gelatin, so they disintegrated like crazy. This shop is like a museum!
I would be the happiest individual if I could go to that store. My love for vintage clothing is big.
me too! it's like a heaven on Earth!
Me too!
Old theaters have collections like this too. My mother still works as a tailor at one. The clothes dampen sound a lot, so you feel like you are in an anechoic chamber. It is a surreal experience.
My old highschool has a wardrobe, as well. It was fun!
I'm really curious to know how she acquired these amazing pieces! I'm sure that wouldn't have been easy.
avismoon me too would love to know the story behind it
Estate sales, auctions, thrift stores that don't know the value of what they've got, major inside connections in the fashion and entertainment industries...
Maybe the shop is not hers? Maybe she works for that shop owner who is rich enough to collect this stuff...
people know people. She has a vast connections with celebrities, and yup they will introduce her something.
Estates her nephew is my best friend
Heavily beaded garments should never be stored on a hanger, even with support straps. The weight of the beads will cause the fabric to simply disintegrate. Many vintage pieces have been found lying on closet floors after having been in storage over time. Most beading is done on silk and the fibers simply can not withstand gravity.
I was horrified when I saw that. For someone who has been working with vintage, she should know that...
jeff hyder do you know what designer those dresses were?! They were beautiful and I wanted to look them up
She should hire some sort of consultant to property educate her on how to store this stuff. Honestly, a lot of it should probably be in a museum where they have every preservation technique available to them. It'd be a shame for any of these pieces to waste away because of irresponsibility. What's more important, the visual impact of the showroom with its hanging racks or ensuring that 100 year old items are still here in another 100 years?
yes they should be stored as if sleeping in bed sorry for bad grammar
Correct. That disturbed me😦
In love. I have a business degree in fashion and one of the things I loved most was going to universities to view their collections of historical fashion
Im surprised they don’t use gloves and pieces are just randomly hanging there
They're clothes. People wear them. There's limited point to wearing gloves to handle something that's going to be worn by someone, unless you're concerned about sterility.
I agree. Didnt get the impression that the antique fabrics were handled with care as they could be. Everyone has oils on their fingers and the expensive, old real fabrics should be better preserved and handled.
florenceandthemakeup that’s because it isn’t that exclusive
These are items to be worn. They are not locked away. Maybe one day they will be taken off the wearable market, but they are still viable and present a piece of history in today’s world.
Even if items are worn eventually there is a difference between one or two people touching a historic item compared to hundreds
Literally a fashion museum 😍
I think it’s the same as Oldtimers . Nobody would say : uhhhh they are just old cars ! Because those cars have a history you can see and feel . And that’s the same as those rare vintage pieces .
I just keep going back to this video. I can’t get over it. She’s living my dream. This is what I want to do.
I just love classic vintage high heels~ they're the best
3:52 on the far right shelf, super sexy
I'd have low key anxiety about having such priceless items housed in a shop - I mean, what kind of security and/or protection and/or insurance does she have I wonder?... Those items in total must be worth an insane amount of $$$.
@a h so pressed for what
I really loved this video... wish it had been 5 times longer showing more things.
It would be a dream to be able to own such wonderful pieces of clothing!
I would be happy just to be able to go in and see the archives. But yes, owning one of those gorgeous vintage gowns, hats, etc. would be amazing.
Would you kill for it though ladies?
When she said Josephine Baker wore that bra I was jaw dropped
I love vintage. I have one designer piece and cherish it. However, I hit some estate sales and Goodwill for the rest. You find done surprising things at Goodwill. Especially if it's in an affluential area.
Judy Clark I have a friend that found a vintage, 900 something € scarf from Hermes in a second hand shop for like 20€...=))))
I know that my local goodwill regularly stocks stuff like giant North Face parkas that are pretty much pristine for like 20 bucks. My friend does all her shopping there uwu
Affluent area. Affluent is an adjective already.
I always found gems at a thrift stores.
21whichiswhich me too people donate all kinds of things. And you and I get them cheap!
Where do you shop?
b Philantrope Family Thrift Oultet in Houston in the Bellaire area
I once found and purchased a 1970s Bottega Veneta handbag for $15.00, in mint condition. Love thrift shopping. My most enjoyable job was working in a vintage boutique.
That woman seems so lovely. Usually places like this or designer stores the workers are usually snobby. Even while talking about the very rare pieces she’s not snobby about it
Wow nasty comments from miserable people who seem to have no love of fashion. The craftsmanship of the high end houses is obvious when vintage garb is still in such good condition. It seems like a museum people can buy and rent from which is an interesting concept. I usually like vintage style rather than feel the need to wear something because a celebrity has but it is nice to see the artistry being preserved and appreciated.
We live in an era of cheap disposable clothing. Of course the dim-witted of this era have no appreciation of handmade garments by masters of their craft that have shaped fashion.
Anna Vajda There's this new trend of being super proud of one's own provincial livelihood. You'll find the bumpkins on every gourmet food video, making it everyone else's fault that they can't get black sesame seeds at the dollar store. If they're so proud, and so much more authentic, why are they watching gourmet food videos?
@@seigeengine I think they do understand the quality of such garments but as they prefer to wear cheap unstylish clothes they act as though that is somehow superior and attempt to minimize genuine craftsmanship.
tbh i dont think most have the money to rent the amazing vintage clothing you are talking about. secondly style is a matter of perspective
If you have experience seeing how incredibly rude she can be to people in her store you would feel disgusted by her behavior too.
Wow, having pieces made by Worth sounds so ethereal. I mean he put the bases of what we know today as Haute Couture. Is like having a Da Vinci around your house somewhere. I would love to see those garments and just be amazed by them!❤️❤️❤️❤️
People like her keep elegance Alive....
I love vintage-inspired designs & anytime I see coutfits that are somewhat vintage at an affordable price/discount, I buy it( Yes esp. on the website Modclth when discounts are available that is lol). Loved how the owner described as a fashion time capsule & she couldn’t be more correct. Despite being old, the design, style, & condition of those props, accesories, & clothing still look as inspiring and amazing since they were created. Almost like wearing and appreciating history in an intimate level💃
I love how history make this pieces invaluable. Great collection.
Love this! My favorite time period 20s 30s 40s I would go nuts in here.
vintage is so special only a specific type of person is truly interested in this stuff, someone nostalgic and fashionable
Glad that this store is still around and that the owner is quite aware of what she has. She obviously isn't in for only the money.
Loved this video!!! Great storytelling.
So glad that the history and craftsmanship of these items have been preserved!
My high school fashion club stopped here spontaneously on our way to visit FIT. The guy behind the counter was totally great and told us all about the pieces. They have beautiful pieces and everyone there was genuinely dedicated to the collection.
I love the celebration of fashion and unique vintage pieces but the elitism and classism inherent to the industry are revolting.
ur soo beautiful
What elitism and classism? Make an actual point.
@@seigeengine only 'a list' people can even look at the second floor etc etc...
Did they say that? No.
Totally agree. I am so turned off to the snobbery of the nobodies in the industry who believe they are above everybody.
Having a piece of Frederick Worth would be amazing!
look on etsy, theres a few.
i was giddy about the schiaparelli collection haha
While the shop might be very expensive and very exclusive, it has one of a kind items. You’ll spend your whole life waiting to come across items like these in thrift stores.
One my last trip to NYC I walked in here not knowing anything about it. The pieces here are beautiful and pricey for my budget. Just walking threw there gave me a lot of inspiration and I hope this place lasts for a long time.
Love this! Love her! ❤ She kinda looks like Lily Rabe❤
This is great for fashion history but I doubt u can call it the greatest given how much more fashion history dates back too in England and France. It would be interesting if they had something like this in London or Paris, that would be a treat to see.
I moved to NYC about 6 mos before COVID hit, and I wish I knew of this store. My grandmother sewed couture for Adrian when he had his sown salon in Beverly Hills. Maybe that will help me get a research appt since I am a fashion history grad. student Hopefully, it will open for appts after COVID. It's not great that so many costumes are not stored upstairs to prevent damage.
Amazing shop. My dream closet.😍
I have been to this store and just going in is an experience but if u walk just another 15min up the street u will find a goodwill with amazing clothes
I may not be able to dress or live like the other half, but I thank you Kim for SHOWING us how the other half lives with your videos. I love these!
That has to be the most beautiful shop I have ever seen. If I went in there I would never want to come out.
She's definetly very fond of herself
Riley Dominics As she should
Becoming an experience is what will keep retail alive.
I looked at the SATC feather piece, and in the movie clip, it’s so much more vivid colour to it. Here it’s shown more dull. But it’s the exact item worn,,,
Bowler hat and top hat is currently my favorite hats to buy in the future.
Things expensive because they are rare. But don't get a good vibe from the conversation. Stopped at half.
agreed. shes pretentious and self righteous as fuck. when she gets real scared she will try to call princess whomever and sell that bird fascinator...
@@caligulalonghbottom2629 What do u mean "gets scared"?
Imagine u own a bird accessory, which earns u more than 6 figures, by renting it out once in awhile, repeatedly. Of course u won't sell it to someone offering 6 figures. Cuz u make way more in the long run with that.
Scared that her bank vaults are going to burst open? -__-
@@1..0w0..3 The market for bird headpieces is quite small....rental or otherwise. She's not renting that singular item out very often... The only people who would rent it are stylists for fashion editorials and eccentric socialites and aristocrats and there are very few of the latter. Its not been seen on Daphne Guinness...its not been seen in any editorial ive seen in the past decade...
@@caligulalonghbottom2629 Maybe some people who rent such things have stricter privacy? Maybe they specified to the owner, that the details of their rented product, are not to be shared with anyone.
@@1..0w0..3 You aren't grasping the concept of small market. There aren't many people period who would RENT a bird fascinator. The market for them is nonexistant. She's not making six figures on any single item regardless but certainly not something like that. Movie prop, socialite, popstar or fashion editor. Thats it. Socialites would only wear it to be seen in it. Thats the damn point.
Wonder ful!!!!.....i too have a collection of vintage. ALSO had a VINTAGE booth@local market/ fair...nothing this calibre...but nice just the same.....not appriciated in my area...but on a POSITIVE note...this is a college town" i was building a unique clientele.....💜
wow, such history in this place!
Im soo inspired for this women right now .
I cringed when she mentioned letting her kids run around the showroom. Imagine if they ruined something irreplaceable?
Not all children are ill mannered. As a vintage clothing retailer my children were taught early on about clothing and accessories. Some of the best things in my store were items found by my children. The value and history of the items was instilled early on.
@@stuartlee6622 jealous bitch.
I cringed when she mentioned Big Mike Obummer ....wanting to dress him in Vintage ..wtf
The only thing irreplaceable IS the kids. The rest is old clothes. Albeit, very lovely, inspired pieces, but still clothes. I would gather ( due to her attitude in the video ) that she has taught her children the value of the pieces as historical documentation and the work of highly skilled artisans. Regardless, parents are responsible for the upbringing of thier children period.
This was fun. I'm eager to watch more in the series.
Keeping history alive and showing the public. Way to go👍👍
A NYC landmark. Their fashion archive is incredible!
I wish this kind of show is longer
Hella salt in the comments 😂😂😂
Indeed 🤔😒
The bitterness of provincials
I love old New York
so upstairs things are just for renting out? not for sale?
That's interesting, my aunt used to design clothing in NYC in the 1960-1995 time period.
She is no longer alive, so wish I know who she had worked with/for...
It's worth researching.
@@miriamhavard7621 have been trying to she owned an apt across from Centreal park in the 70's,had quite a few purses I remember and later realized they were Birkins (I was maybe 10 and thought they were "square aunt and gramma bags".

She seems like a really nice person, down to earth.
Don't throw away your clothes. Not the pricey stuff any way
Hi Very interesting Creativity is essential in all areas and so glad people are inventive and can use their imagination.I love vintage
God bless New York Vintage and all stores like it! Where else could these irreplaceable pieces be carefully preserved, yet allowed out to play?
Wait i dont get it, so the vintage clothings on yhe second floor are for rent only? Not for sale? Thanks
History is best taught by engaging the senses and the imagination.
tell me why this host cant afford anything he ever looks at lol
Who said he couldnt afford any of it?
He's not there to buy. He's there doing a story about the shop! ✌
Great store hope to visit one day if we can ever fly again!
great video I used to love vintage shopping you can find the most amazing items :)
Very cool and humble woman!
Amazing! Thanks for the tour.
I would be in heaven on this store...this is my time peroid...may this store live forever!
This was great.
Love the top hat. I wish men still wore top 🎩
I was expecting to see someone snobby but this lady was great. Amazing vintage store & so happy to see how they appreciate the value of history on their items.

I have an item from this shop but i need it authenticated. Does anyone know how to help?
I would hope items from a store like that would be authentic. What type of item?
Are there some delicate pieces require special preservation?
Fantastic!
i love vintage stuff. i guess I am phoebe buffay in the family. I dont believe in mass produce goods. it's better to own stuff that has history in it. love every pieces in the video!
Amazing...❤️

Amazing stuff :)
With such a valuable collection, I would feel better if the rarest, best pieces were donated to the Met and not used for a commercial enterprise. Just imagine a fire or flood in the building. And some of the oldest pieces should be in light, humidity, bug controlled storage.
I would love to look at everything in the 2nd level the roaring 20s would be my Favorite
It is such a shame that place closed for us, ordinary people. Why not create a museum or maybe open one time in a month, or something like that.
Loved this video! Thank you both for sharing!!!
ive been in there and might i say that it is intimidating being surrounded by clothing you cant afford
this dude running the second hand store means bizness
