Books? BOOKS?! Send me your recs! Inspo to give you a jumping off point: Red Rising, The Expanse, The Dark Tower, Wool trilogy. Basically Sci-fi, fantasy, horror epics! But I'm open to other ideas 🤓🤓🤓
My favorite Sci Fi book is The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury! As for Fantasy, The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss and the rest of the series is really great! Also the Stormlight Archives Series by Brandon Sanderson are very interesting fantasy books! Hope this helps! Love your videos :)
The Monstrumologist! It's dark and a bit thrilling, set in early 20th century America, about an orphan taken in by a scientist who studies monsters. (Think old lore of rural communities of what monsters are killing their livestock or what monsters a hunter might stumble across in the middle of the night. Think chupacabra, wendigo, bunyip, Mongolian death worm, etc.)
Robin Hobb has a good fantasy epic series that I've only read like 6 books of like a decade ago but I remember being obsessed. Seanen McGuire's October Daye series is faerie crime-problem-solving in San Francisco, 16 books but easier reading.
Its not weird to be over the car dependency situation in this country. They’re so bad for so many reasons. We definitely need better public transit and pedestrian friendly infrastructure
i regularly think about urban planning, car culture, and lack of public transit in america because it really is such a bad use of funds and causes so much stress and accidents that are ultimately unnecessary. whenever i get the chance to visit a place with robust public transit the experience is so nice and straightforward. and then i come back to america where you need a car just to get to essential places like the grocery store or doctor's offices and i hate it so much. not to mention the traffic. oh my god the traffic. @.@
I know this is an old comment but I had to agree. Not only is car dependency expensive and bad for the environment, but it's not neurodivergent friendly. I have severe anxiety and have panic attacks whenever I have to drive. I also have ADHD and driving is just sensory overload. I've avoided driving my whole life (literally just did enough to get my license and that's it) and am so excited to finally be moving to an American city with good public transportation. Even just crossing a street packed with cars/crazy drivers who run red lights and blow their horns at pedestrians gives me so much anxiety and I've cried before bc of people like that. I hate it so much

This makes me miss nyc in the 90s and Cheap Jack’s, which used to be near 14th St. I got a vintage blazer there for $1.99 when I was an undergrad that I still love. How do I remember it was $1.99? Cuz the handwritten receipt is still in the pocket, along with a Mets schedule from 1992…

Congratulations to you and your team on the award win!! 😊👏 Hope you had a great time- sure looked like you did, and you found some amazing pieces as well!! ❤ I had no idea The Expanse is a book series! I watched every season of the show and absolutely loved it so I might have to read the books! If you haven’t watched the show I highly recommend (I obviously don’t know how closely it follows the books but I thought it was good!).

Kino used to be up in Rockefeller square by Minomoto kitchen; if you want traditional Japanese sweets, it’s a must. Also, Chinatown, omfg love the food there, literally able to spend all day in that corner of the city. I miss NY
I was just in Chicago and definitely obsessed with public transit. I live in St. Louis and have been without a car for a over month and the public transit here is trashhh. Thanks for sharing bc your exploration with us!!!
Really surprised no one directed you to a Housing Works, especially in some of the fancier neighborhoods! Or... anywhere in Brooklyn. My two favorite thrift stores are in Brooklyn.
When I used to live in nyc hmm about 15 years ago? 😂 the stylist I used to work with told me this vintage shop called “angel street” at union square, but not sure if it still exits🤔 they had amazing stuff for a really good price because they get stuff from rich people upstate as donations✨ also there were few nice vintage shops on the same street as well❤ every time you show some love to Japan, it makes me happy🥰
@@sukimuki52 - I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news😢! I’m glad you still have some things, I still do as well. It’s so sad how many little family owned little shops, restaurants are gone😢. I had a vintage stall at 26th St Flea Mkt, then the Garage, then a B&M shop (which morphed into something else) & had to close in ‘06 due to the Marc Jacob-isation of the WVill; I barely recognise my old home💔. At least “Cowgirl Hall of Fame” is still there! (Think just called “Cowgirl” now, but still same😃!) NY has become one big chain store after all the nonsense these past few years. So many homeless yet again as well💔. If they’d stop giving tax breaks to greedy corp landlords for keeping spaces empty things would change back quickly. It’ll burst & it’ll be back to the “good old days” soon as many friends in real estate keep telling me, let’s🙏🏼🤞! J. 😘🧡
@@RnR-Rebel I haven’t y been there for over 10 years, so it’s so sad to hear the city has changed so much😭 but when I get a chance to visit there again, I’ll try the shops you recommended💕 at least I can look forward to find some treasure again in the city, cheers🫶
@@sukimuki52 - There’s still a hearty vintage scene when you visit again! “L Train Vintage” (along 14th into Brooklyn) has LOADS of shops! I’m odd as I know values very well, so I won’t pay overinflated prices which sadly some have; tho there are bargains to be found everywhere if you look closely! If you come again, get in touch, if I can, I’ll show you around (even my “secret spot” which has gotten a touch pricey but is still good, always find exactly what I want there, fair $ to me). Cheers & have a lovely weekend! 😘🧡
as a resident new yorker i loved your reactions to all the little things we often take for granted lol- usually the subway for us is a chore to be on T-T but happy to have had u there! :)
Kathleen! You are always the cutest li'l bean! Heh heh, I rhyme good, huh? So, as a Chicagoland native, I LOVE NYC! It's my favorite city I've been to. One of my dream vacations would be to visit for a few weeks and see every Broadway show I'd want to see at least once. Sigh! And also eat lots of NY pizza and cheesecake while I'm there. And thrift, you, of course! You found some very nice pieces!
Ooooo I *loved* watching you in NYC, my city! Many new spots I've marked to check out, and you made me want to revisit Kinokuniya. ❤ Have you tried my fave pen, the Uni-ball Signo?
Is it really a trip to NY if you don't feel violated at some point? lol I recommend you hit up the outer boroughs if you ever come back, we have multiple chinatowns, even a japan village. Lots of good thrifting.
Hi, i just found your channel!! Oh the stores you went to!!! Im a little jealous. But i did go to my local Goodwill and found a pair of Hermes's flats. And they had the color tag that made them .99. i could not have been more thrilled and they fit like a glove. Love your video.
De Cineribus From the Ashes is a good Fantasy book, a second one is in the works and a third one is planned so maybe add it to your list for when it's complete. I really enjoyed the first book though would recommend
Just a note to say I enjoyed your NYC vlog! That green dress looked amazing on you! Oh, and a great SF series to start is the "Murderbot Diaries" series by Martha Wells. The First book is "All Systems Red". Security Unit (SecUnit) gains sentience and hacks its own programming to better protect the humans in its care -- as well as download thousands of hours of miniseries to watch. I just finished the fourth book, "Exit Strategy" and I love it!
Found your channel this morning.. YAY...oh and I also ordered the red temptation and into the night combo...can't wait to smell delicious...haha❤. Thank you so much for the inspo.
Definitely a cutey patootie and buttery little bean! I'm happy you brought your emergency support ruler in case of crisis, or as a playmate for more adventures.
Oh bummer, I’ve been away- would’ve taken you to my “secret” spot! Maybe next time. Congrats on the win & I’m happy you enjoyed my city! I used to live 2 bocks up from Tokyo 7- fab place to buy quality! No EVill for me anymore, so much cooler in the 80s prior to gentrification, but I’m happy some little shops survived! Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️🏍
We went to Kinokuniya two days in a row when visiting NYC. We ate at their little cafe both days. I think one day we had to share a table with strangers, but hey.
New subscriber here. I love thrifting also and introduced thrifting to my two nieces when they were pre teens. They find so many great bargains. Also, I thrift with my middle son who has great taste. Definitely looking forward to watching lots of your fun, interesting videos.
I loved this so much! Hope you had a great time at your event! I'm a native NY'er so I can appreciate finding sweet little shops that deliver on content...loved the yellow frock! 💛 Thanks for taking time to vlog on your trip, you're a star! 😊 Edit: Book series. ..Flint Maxwell's Whiteout Series is a good read...As well as Stephen Donaldsons 'Thomas Covenant' series...Read both several times...
omg i went to auh2o! it was actually a very stressful day because i was on a school trip (from england like whattt! we were so lucky) and i was running through the rain with my bag of vintage goods to get back to the hotel in time and ended up dropping a shirt on the way and running back for it!
Loved this! You are most definitely a cute little bean in that dress. I've never been to NYC, but if I ever go, you better believe I'm thrifting there. 🍎
Hey there Kathleen, I just wanted to tell you that you're a beautiful lil bean in everything that you wear & don't let anyone tell you anything different!! Congratulations on your award that's super cool!! And I'm glad that you had such a good time in NYC thanks for bringing us along for the ride. Can't wait for next week's video. Have a Blessed & Beautiful night in Jesus name I pray, Amen! P.S. I'm praying for you & yours❤
I just had the best thrifting haul on Friday, I've been looking for some more summer clothes and I found five new short sleeve button-ups (my brand lol) for 30 bucks
When I should be working I just had to watch a thrifting, but not thrifting, video but it was worth it so I added another sub to my list of procrastinating diversions. Great clothing choices, especially the pants, good score. On a different note, I really like your haircut and believe my last cut was my stylists attempt at the 'wolf' cut when I tried to describe something similar. Since mine has grown out and is really a mop now, I've got to ask you, what would I ask my stylist for to get a similar look? It looks so cute on you. Thanks
welcome to the family, jennifer!!! :)) as for hair - i think my stylist refers to is as a curly shag - the bangs are kind of "custom" though because I ask for more of the hair on the top of my head (the crown? i guess?) to be included in the bang so that they're thicker, floofier and start further back on my head instead of starting right at my hairline. she refers to them as "blocky" haha, maybe that's a technical term. if you want to check out my stylist on insta, she does tons of curly cuts and might be good reference! instagram.com/alaynas.chair/
Would ou ever make a video about how you do your hair? I often struggle bc I HATE the feeling of products in my hair but I also have curly hair and sometimes I wanna shush it up so yeah :D
Beautifully, the 2nd hand garbs in New York have more chic than Los Angeles, CA . What is their moto? The purses look almost new, and the t-shirts don't have that dingy spotting to them. Did I miss the cookware, or are these people too good to cook? Is it mostly models & actors throwing away the wares. Well, you made thrifting more susceptible.
Raven cycle series / Dreamer trilogy by Maggie Stiefvater & All the Grisha-verse books are great fantasy books! I also love shadowhunter books, Which is probably the longest going series I've read that continues to get better throughout the years

nothin wrong with being a train kid!

City Opera was my recommendation! Im so happy you went!
There's something about your outro music I find so soothing. Just thought I'd share that with everyone.
So glad you like it! It’s called Scuba by Louie Zong if you ever want to listen 🏊🏼♀️💕
@@KathleenIllustrated Thanks, I'll check it out. Have been meaning to mention it, it's just so cute and chilled out.
The green dress is giving Buffy the Bridesmaid vibes I love it
I bought an 80s Chanel jumbo in Tokio 7 in 2007 for $700 ❤😮 I was on a work trip and blew up my CC 😅 I was not leaving without it 😂
You are so right! The yellow dress looks beautiful on. Fun finds! Just subscribed ❤✌🏼

Found your channel this morning.. YAY...oh and I also ordered the red temptation and into the night combo...can't wait to smell delicious...haha❤. Thank you so much for the inspo.
Haha Aw Veronica I hope you love your new scents!!! Thanks for being here!
Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️🏍
aw shoot! it sounds like you know of some really great spots
@@KathleenIllustrated - Next time😃! Love your channel & you! J. 😘🧡
We went to Kinokuniya two days in a row when visiting NYC. We ate at their little cafe both days. I think one day we had to share a table with strangers, but hey.
Im so glad you got po box!! Ive got a collection of fun goods to send your way from my own thrift times
oh la la!!! consider my interests PIQUED!!!!! (that's so kind of you, please never feel pressure but it's always appreciated!)
New subscriber here. I love thrifting also and introduced thrifting to my two nieces when they were pre teens. They find so many great bargains. Also, I thrift with my middle son who has great taste. Definitely looking forward to watching lots of your fun, interesting videos.
Hey you!! So glad to have ya 💕 my first and fondest memories of thrifting are with my aunt, so you’re doing very important work with these kids! 😉
@@KathleenIllustrated such a coincidence. Thanks.
So fun! Ok not to be THIS person but was Billie there 👀 SO cool you contributed to that whole competition/marketing. ❤
Hehe!!! No she was not.. and she has no idea who I am BUT it’s very cool all the same!!!
So nice! I enjoy watching you thrift especially the styling afterwards, always so quirky and fun! Thank you so much for your videos 🌈
That salmon dress looked awesome on you!!!
🫣💕 thanks so much!
I loved this so much! Hope you had a great time at your event!
I'm a native NY'er so I can appreciate finding sweet little shops that deliver on content...loved the yellow frock! 💛
Thanks for taking time to vlog on your trip, you're a star! 😊
Edit: Book series. ..Flint Maxwell's Whiteout Series is a good read...As well as Stephen Donaldsons 'Thomas Covenant' series...Read both several times...
That pink dress looked BEAUTIFUL on you! 😍
i too am a train kid, the vibes are immaculate
train kids UNITE (into the longest train on earf)
Ah!! This video was so so fun to watch Kathleen! I adore you!
omg i went to auh2o! it was actually a very stressful day because i was on a school trip (from england like whattt! we were so lucky) and i was running through the rain with my bag of vintage goods to get back to the hotel in time and ended up dropping a shirt on the way and running back for it!
This is my first time watching you and I adore you. :) You kind of remind me of Jenna Marbles, which is a fantastic thing!
That is truly the highest compliment anyone on UA-cam can receive 🥺 thank you!!!
@@KathleenIllustrated Aww! I'm so glad it made you happy!!! Wonderful. ☺
Loved this! You are most definitely a cute little bean in that dress. I've never been to NYC, but if I ever go, you better believe I'm thrifting there. 🍎
oh my god that little dragonfly pouch is to DIE for. you really lucked out on that thrift trip i’m jealous
I love your channel, you are funny and so refreshing
Aw what the heck! Thanks for being here!!
WOAH that’s a treasure trove! Nice job 😳
as for hair - i think my stylist refers to is as a curly shag - the bangs are kind of "custom" though because I ask for more of the hair on the top of my head (the crown? i guess?) to be included in the bang so that they're thicker, floofier and start further back on my head instead of starting right at my hairline. she refers to them as "blocky" haha, maybe that's a technical term. if you want to check out my stylist on insta, she does tons of curly cuts and might be good reference! instagram.com/alaynas.chair/
You are awesome! I love everything! I would absolutely rock that pink cover up all year long! So fun!!❤ come to Buffalo next time!
Tara! I've heard awesome things about the Buffalo thrift/vintage/estate sale scene! Thank you so much for watching :)
@@KathleenIllustrated we have great estate sales! If you’re ever in town let me know! It’s estate sale season again! ❤️
The yellow dress is fab
Would ou ever make a video about how you do your hair? I often struggle bc I HATE the feeling of products in my hair but I also have curly hair and sometimes I wanna shush it up so yeah :D
BUTTER BEAN…. You looked like a cute little butter bean in the yellow dress ❤
that guy is peter cooper! you shot some b roll at my college! i got a BA in printmaking at cooper union! makes me miss nyc this time of year 😭
Beautifully, the 2nd hand garbs in New York have more chic than Los Angeles, CA . What is their moto? The purses look almost new, and the t-shirts don't have that dingy spotting to them. Did I miss the cookware, or are these people too good to cook? Is it mostly models & actors throwing away the wares. Well, you made thrifting more susceptible.
Hi 👋 fun video to watch. Always great to find out good thrift stores in NYC. On another note, where is your phone case from?
Hi camila!!!! It’s from Pela - I love it! It’s biodegradable & super protective 💕
Raven cycle series / Dreamer trilogy by Maggie Stiefvater & All the Grisha-verse books are great fantasy books! I also love shadowhunter books, Which is probably the longest going series I've read that continues to get better throughout the years
Also, thought you might buy a new ruler in the stationary section 😂 y’know when you wanna switch up your microphone handle
😩😩😩 why did I not think of this!!! You’re a genius 🧠
Just what i needed this Sunday❤
