Resistance 1 was planed to have vehicles in MP but they were cut due to the power of vehicular man slaughter being to OP so it was almost like halo in ww2 :/
I love the Resistance series so damn much. Owned every one and remember beating them all in like a single weekend they were so good. Please review them all, including the PSP game. Not enough people talk about the series anymore even though they were the highlights of console FPS's during their hayday.
this game was so difficult i loved every moment of it. very few games gave me such a satisfaction with every level passed. lol its funny because i finally learned about the homing feature on the very last level. which i used to cheesed the boss and never died once. it felt so good to give him all my pent up frustration i built slogging thru entire game.
My grandfather once told me about life before safety gloves, working with metal and shit. You would get slivers of metal threaded into the skin of your hands, and my grandmother would have to pry the slivers out with tweasers and pliers. That's what happens when you don't use a carabiner to rappel into battle.
people in the past used to get off work and pull the metal slivers out of their hands, people today feel violated if someone in their city isn't vaxxed or says a word that offends them are we sure that we're advancing or 'evolving'? :P
How is it possible that I randomly came across this channel a few days ago and right when I lamenting the time since I last heard this angelic voice? Been on a binge ever since.
I was part of this really small multiplayer community on this game when I was 11 or 12, I remember the game mode being called Conversion? The game was ridden with people who used the Ethernet lagswitches to win. I also remember there being Ratchet and Clank in-game loot you could get as well. Such a simple yet brilliant game. Oh and of course, the glitch on Somerset to jump out of the map through that window on the 40-player map. So many fond memories.
Oh the laggy thing to win was just Australians, we had terrible internet back in 2006 and it made it so online we would teleport around the map in online games and no one could see us but we could see them, you had to shoot where someone would be in like 10 seconds time, fun stuff.
It feels like Parker was added to the game in order to have her spell out the story in those slideshow exposition pieces. I was wondering why the devs didn't have cutscenes to show the story instead, especially since the slides look like they were taken from cutscenes. Maybe it just wasn't feasible (rushed production?) so they used Parker to compensate. That's probably why she's everyone's commander as well. It's a reason for her to know all the details and to be relevant to the story she tells. Her line "I knew Hale would eventually find the map room." is such conjecture, it really sounds like the devs didn't plan for the voiceover at first.
I'm sure they didn't have all the resources of their studio available for this game. They had to also be working on Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction, which released the following year.
@@chrisrichfield8906 Yeah, Resistance 1 was an experiment for Insomniac along the lines of "what if we made a FPS with guns as good as Ratchet and Clank"? You can see the massive increase in production in Resistance 2 and 3 once they realized people loved the first game and it had a solid future.
It was a launch title so you're probably not far off. Hitman 2 had this same thing where the cutscenes were replaced with slideshows due to crunch and limited funding.
5:41 I love how you singled out the quote "The Conversion Center was Built on top of an Old Fish Cannery" Like its the most important quote in the game lmfao
For some reason, I finished Fall of Man but have extremely vague memory of it. I mostly remember the game to be quite challenging, but I also think it was the DualShock 3 terrible trigger button that caused all shooter game on the PS3 to be annoying. Other than that, I do remember the basic of the story, the virus, invasion and all of that. It was quite absorbing back in the day, but not particularly so. It had that proper blend of horror and military. It’s half way between Halo and CoD. Too bad, they essentially ran out of ideas. Part of what made it a little forgettable was the brownish, grey colour tone. The Xbox also had Gears of War, so it didn’t feel like Resistance was doing anything special. Overall, I found that era of gaming quite fun. Gaming was approaching cinema, it was interesting to see what kind of things they wanted to adopt from cinema. Now it’s just the same thing recycled, after the novelty wore off.
This game wasn't just my intro to the PS3. It was the _reason_ I got a PS3. I suppose it was Playstation's answer to Halo because they play very similarly but as far as personal taste goes, I always like the setting of Resistance more than Halo.
@@slicedtopieces same, I went over to a friend's house and watched him play this on his big plasma TV. I was used to the OG Xbox on a CRT, so this game blew me away visually. It looks ok now, but back then the materials looked so crisp and "next gen".

Nathan Hale: "I regret that I have but one life to give for my country." Nathan Hale after finding out that, not only is reincarnation a thing, it drops you into an alternate reality: "I regret regretting having only one life."

@@douglassun8456 If you wanna get too deep college essay style analysis with it you can say that Hale represents to the combined mankind forces what the original did to the American revolutionaries. I'd also recommend one of the series on UA-cam that goes deeper into Resistance lore (Roanoke Gaming channel) and it's actually pretty damn thought out for something that looks like a generic alien shooter. I personally liked the other 2 games. I had my issues with Resistance 2, especially visually I found it pretty weird with plastic-looking textures, but overall I thought it wasn't so bad, even though I still prefered the first one. Rural US was a pretty nice setting too. Really liked the 3 though, which brought a deeper meaning to the title, as at this point humanity was very much on the brink of extinction with the Chimera being all over. I also liked the take on the "feral" Chimeras, showing how the Earth's whole ecosystem was shifting. Overall a pretty good and underappreciated franchise in my opinion.
This has almost the exact same conceit and execution as the Blight in Dragon Age: Origins, down to the maze of caverns to the ancient spawn point. DA:O came out well after.
Tbh there’s a ton of fun weapons in this game that make gameplay more interesting, it’s a shame whoever made the playthrough video basically stuck to the first few you pick up lol

@@LangstonDev The second had the 2 weapon limit and health regen mechanic. They realised how dumb that is and with the third, thankfully reverted back to weapon wheel and health pick ups.

@@yetipotato8567 I mean, she's just reading a dossier. It shows when the scarbs infect Hale and she's narrating "No one knows how Hale was infected" showing that documents can be unreliable and miss crucial evidence.

Following the liberation of Britain, Parker worked quickly, initiating restoration and rescue efforts throughout the country, restoring and re-deploying armed forces, beginning research efforts into the Chimera's mysterious history and reverse-engineering Chimeran technology alongside Special Research Projects Administration. At this time, Parker was promoted to Colonel and made official head of the British Intelligence Corps and British Armed Forces.

Holy crap I didn't realize you nuked over 40 videos. Thank you for keeping em in the playlist.
But why?

Needless to say I’m both excited and upset these were hidden from me.
I really enjoyed this series. The lore they gave felt like observations on a new species. The other games were fun too. Seeing the wild varieties of chimeras that werent part of the hive mind and lacked coolers
All that fossilized lore I have from playing this back in the day is slowly coming back to me. The Chimera, the hints of another alien race they fought aeons ago hinted about in the last game, the whole Clovis organization, the books they wrote for this series- how Hale killed the president in one of those. It’s all coming back to me.
wait... there are BOOKS!?
THE LORE CHEFWONDERS WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!

The series overall (games included) are great...
Except for the vita title, that one felt meh...
This ancient lore cannot be translated
This game had some of the best weapons in this shooter generation. Also fast roping (going down a rope from a helo without a lanyard) is very much a thing. Doing it barehanded would burn the ever living crap out of your hands though
Navy seals use glove.
Green berets use gloves.
Chimera hybrids wipe their rear with said gloves
I also had alot of fun, would be cool if they could bring the series back.
The only thing that sucks in my opinion is that games from those times are always so colourless with that ugly grey/brown touch
You don't grip with your hands though, you squeeze the rope with your legs
@@1CJMac1 even then you’re burning the hell out of your hands with the rope lmao. You need specialized gloves for fast roping-dudes will wear their shooting gloves and the rope will burn through them immediately. You’ll have a pair to rope down, and then pull them off and use the shooting gloves you were wearing underneath to work your weapon.
@@Blexg or just wear thicker Shooting gloves. Thats what I do.

this game was so difficult i loved every moment of it. very few games gave me such a satisfaction with every level passed. lol its funny because i finally learned about the homing feature on the very last level. which i used to cheesed the boss and never died once. it felt so good to give him all my pent up frustration i built slogging thru entire game.
My grandfather once told me about life before safety gloves, working with metal and shit. You would get slivers of metal threaded into the skin of your hands, and my grandmother would have to pry the slivers out with tweasers and pliers.
That's what happens when you don't use a carabiner to rappel into battle.
That's what happens when you rappel with metal cable for some crazy reason.
Xerox actually created the 1st safety gloves in 1977 but they didn't realize the potential gold mine they were sitting on.
@@rook1196 I'm inclined to believe Xerox also invented sliced bread at this point.

How is it possible that I randomly came across this channel a few days ago and right when I lamenting the time since I last heard this angelic voice?
Been on a binge ever since.
Greatest voice in the history of the internet, innit.
The editing for this video is straight up godlike.
I love the low-key, casual style and humor .
You're not special
Hitman 2 had this same thing where the cutscenes were replaced with slideshows due to crunch and limited funding.
to be honest i always liked those story telling slideshows in the game, they always set the mood right for me

5:41 I love how you singled out the quote "The Conversion Center was Built on top of an Old Fish Cannery"

Well as a serious explanation, it’s to establish the setting.
But for comedic purposes it is a hilarious sentence
The voice actor "Sir" is the Head of team America spotteswoode 😂
That Jim Can't Swim edit was damn perfect. Earned a subscriber for that.
This game was my introduction to ps3. Played it coop with a friend. Amazing game.

I always loved the concept of this series but the controls and health system always made me stop playing on level 1
@@Error-33 Yeah, I missed out on infamous, too poor, but I played it at a friend's place once and it was just so amazing. I don't know how well they executed the idea but the idea of becoming a hero or a villain is always great in my eyes, the less clear cut, the better. Like I love the idea of slowly becoming corrupted and becoming stronger in defiance or succumbing and seeking something like revenge.
The funny part of this is not the game nor the jokes but the fact you made this video using another UA-cam video.
I applaud your efficiency sir
Nathan Hale: "I regret that I have but one life to give for my country."
Nathan Hale after finding out that, not only is reincarnation a thing, it drops you into an alternate reality: "I regret regretting having only one life."
I honestly wonder if the writer understood the irony of naming an American who cooperates with Brits to save the UK after Nathan Hale. Dick Winters, I can see that. Nathan Hale? Not as much.
@@douglassun8456 If you wanna get too deep college essay style analysis with it you can say that Hale represents to the combined mankind forces what the original did to the American revolutionaries. Alternatively, Hale gets his wish in having more than one life to give when he "dies" in the initial infection and comes back to life to continue fighting

There is good editing too
Is it just me or is that woman trying to narrate a How It's Made episode about these fictional creatures
Please, continue. You guys are amazing and I'm quite addicted to your videos

I remember hating that they went to the COD/Halo "only 2 weapons at a time" thing in the sequels, the weapons and variety were the most fun part of the game imo
@@LangstonDev The second had the 2 weapon limit and health regen mechanic. They realised how dumb that is and with the third, thankfully reverted back to weapon wheel and health pick ups.
the foam gun always made me laugh!
UA-cam interrupted that scene talking about getting bugs in your mouth with an ad for Domino's pizza. I don't know what that means.
What a game! Resistance 1 & 2 were a huge part of my childhood, the amount of hours I put into Resistance 2 online is second only to MW2. Fond memories.

The co-op in Resistance 2 and 3 was amazing! I played that for hours. Also I didn't realize how similar this game is to halo. You have your driving level, run and gun level and the final level is you running around destroying vents in a tower/ship structure to kill the alien/ monsters lmao
Sony really did everything they could to try and get some of that sc-fi- FPS love that Halo created by combining Halo with WWII...not once but TWICE. Killzone and Resistance.

Military ranks are a bit weird since they're two completely separate career tracks.
While a Lieutenant *technically* outranks a Sergeant like this guy, Lt. Butterbars is going to listen damn well to him if he has any sense.
He certainly seems to.
I can see since its a combat situation theyd ignore ranks like that.
IIRC, that's Comissioned vs NonCommissions ranks...
Comissioned = went to school/college to kill people for your "glorious" state/govt.
NC = drafted/enlisted, and worked your way up thru guts of dead brown folks.
NC >>> Cs in combat. 'Practice vs Theory principle'.
In army the lt can can go into the forces straight away with higher education but hardly no experience whith a cp or seargent they have had experience and raised up the ranks thru time sweat and tears so in affect lot of people with lower ranks can have lot more experience
There’s a story about an LT that made CSM pick up cigarette butts in the parking lot. He got disappeared…

Thanks for this. Back when the PS3 and Xbox 360 came out, my home had neither until at least a year after release. My father once took me to one of his cousin's homes where they had a PS3 with Resistance, Fall of Man.
