Romanian here from Transylvania So from what mythology and folklore I know, Saint George is a really big deal in this story because it was he who slayed the big bad dragon ("balaur" in Romanian), and Dracula having connections with dragons (Vlad the Impailer coming from the Order of Dragons) it was natural that they'd place the events in Saint George's Eve, which is basically a Halloween when evil spirits such as strigoi (undead) roam the earth and villagers need to use herbs to keep them away from stealing their cow milk (I'm not kidding). Not sure if this is also the time when holy werewolves sent from God would battle these evil strigoi or if that is a completely another story. Also while "dracul" meant firstly "the son of the dragon" it now means literally "the Devil" which really didn't help Vlad the Impailer's reputation (later generations would percieve him as Vlad the Devil instead of Vlad the son of the Dragon, however teachers nowadays make sure to highlight the difference).

I heard two things about Vlad and now I wonder if they are true. The first is that he didn't really spend that much time ruling over the territory. The second is that he was beloved by a lot of the people for keeping peace and order. Mostly out of fear of torture and execution.
He does get kind of edgy in the latter parts of the novel. When the party is chasing the coffin across Europe, he mostly spends his time sitting quietly and sharpening a kukri in preparation to fuck Dracula's shit up. Jonathan is kind of a wimp until any point when Mina is put in danger. Then all bets are off.
I like how he emphasized that he would kill the monster with the help of God, even though he straight up killed more villagers that Dracula did in this game

Even here in the past year when I played the game myself (because I'm not embarrassed to admit pnc adventures are a guilty pleasure and I *adore* these style of pre-rendered graphics) the lady with the glowing eyes was STILL uncomfortable for me to look at. That speaks a lot to how well her character was designed (even if it's hard to tell with the change-in-mood this video casts over the story). my favorite part about these point & clicks was that near the end of the game there was always some fantastical extended cutscene where the budget got put, of the protagonist going through multiple biomes/contraptions just so they could get the screengrabs for the boxart & make it seem high production, like johnathan literally was in a cave to a minecart to a pully boat thing using one mechanic the whole time, just as buffer to get to the area to finish the game

Seward the doctor helped out too, and he was not too bad in it, but Jonathan Harker, man...I remember reading one of the novel by Dacre Stoker (the sequel, Dracula The Un-Dead), that during the fight from the first book, every shot Jonathan took with his gun was a miss 😂Although yeah, he found his strength to stab Dracula at the end but he wasn't quite a fighter.
