The year was 2006. The PlayStation 3 was fast approaching, and the creators of Sony’s most celebrated 3D platformers were hard at work creating experiences that would appeal to the upcoming console’s mature audience. Naughty Dog, the acclaimed creator of the kid-friendly Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter series, was busy developing Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, an action-adventure game that would follow a gun-toting daredevil’s journey into unknown territory. Sucker Punch Productions, which had recently risen to fame with its swashbuckling Sly Cooper series, was working on Infamous, a gritty action title starring an electricity-wielding superhero. And Insomniac games, which had fathered the lighthearted Spyro and Ratchet & Clank series, was on the verge of releasing a science fiction first-person shooter set in 1950s England. A shooter called Resistance: Fall of Man.
With a lengthy single-player campaign and a robust multiplayer suite that mixed the realism of Activision’s Call of Duty with the fantastical of Bungie’s Halo, Resistance: Fall of Man seemed poised to become a massive franchise. And yet, despite receiving an initial groundswell of support and multiple sequels, over a decade later and the name Resistance is all but absent from the current PlayStation ecosystem. Where the Uncharted and Infamous series enjoyed acclaim well into the life of the PlayStation 4, Insomniac’s Resistance franchise would ultimately fail to escape the orbit of the PlayStation 3, collapsing almost as soon as it would peak with the release of Resistance 3 in 2011.
This is the story of the rise and fall of the Resistance series.

this was actually pretty sad. The Resistance games were beautiful
I remember my mom even played co-op with me the game had so much reach
They were...
The good old days
I believe there is a budget movie called chronicle something, check it out
Emperor's Champion I like halo but I don’t think the games are very comparable as they play completely differently and have different story and background.
It's 2020 and I still believe Resistance will make a return on the Playstation 5 at some point.
IT WILL DAMMIT!!
lol, I hope. If Battle Front can make a come back after years of hope(despite disappointments), then theres hope for a new Resistance, StarHawk, and Bloody Roar for next gen.
Insomniac seems pretty preoccupied with spider-man and ratchet and clank now. If the franchise makes a return I doubt it’ll be featuring the insomniac magic sadly :/
Alphabetti Spaghetti Why would you come in here with all that evil bro? Leave 😂
i would say F*ck insomniac , give the rains to some other studio , and let them reboot the series Sony! for me resistance clearly surpasses ratchet and clank , i don't care for those type of games , PS5 reveal event didn't even feature one decent exclusive SP shooter , i was expecting at least something like a resistance or a killzone
@This is what a LOWER END CONSOLE looks like those would be part of my picks as Well!
The huge Resistance 2 multiplayer battles were so cool. I want that back
The unique weapons made that multiplayer
The good ol days
8 player co-op was a fun time. 2 player co-op for campaign on 1 and 3 was good too.
@@LordofMovies91 I loved the 8 player co-op I wish more games would do something like that
@@rachaeldangelo1337 wish more big ass games like Star wars BF had strong support for coop mode
The Chimera are one of the most interesting and digusting video game antagonists of all time.
They really made me want to kill them.
Yeah i hate creepy games 'cause im too scared of a pussy, but a great story and a genuine will to kill those things made me play it. Why do we lose such great franchise:(
big facts
like DOOM
Daniel Partogi LT not even close, doom they’re just punching bags. In resistance you really see humanity get hounded and hunted like rats
The Locust sound worse.
Resistance 3, Uncharted 2, and Infamous.
Good memories.
EatitHarvey The original infamous was far ahead of its time, at least the story
Y2 Jericho The cutscenes, the setting, and the very grimdark feeling of Empire City felt very reminiscent of a Graphic Novel. Infamous stood out in style.
EatitHarvey "IGN Always Independent". Yeah thats as honest as Electronic ARTS.
Resistance 1, Uncharted trilogy, Infamous: Second Son, great memories.
Resistance 3 was garbage resistance 2 was the best in the series
It's a shame Resistance is dead. I enjoyed the story of resistance more than most FPS games, including Killzone.
Wait somebody likes Borezone story?
@@brajuhani #killzonelivesmatter
It was a fantastic story. Truly original sci fi very seldom seen these days.
Are you me?
true
The first Resistance was the first online multiplayer game I had ever played, and I loved it. That first game is extremely underrated.
Agreed.
R/YoungPeopleUA-cam
Paperslop326 r/virginswhothinkredditiscool
Absolutely right. Great story and the Multiplayer side of Fall of Man was epic fun.
I preferred it over the sequels. Obviously not as polished or graphically impressive but the story and lore was so unique and so much better. I still remember playing that game vividly.
I have to admit, the Resistance 3 campaign was powerful. They did a really good job portraying a sense of hopelessness and defeat.
Halo did it better
@@OverlordZephyros which one im guessing its reach because that one gave me those feelings the most
Yo man I've said that resistance 3 really captures to hopelessness and being so bleak that you feel like you're fighting an unwinnable blattle. It was a beautiful end to an amazing series
It's one of the most underrated ps3 games and imo the best of the resistance games which is probably a controversial opinion. I always have felt resistance 2 was the worst of the 3, and fall of man and 3 are almost equal with 3 being the tiniest bit better.
@@OverlordZephyroshalo is poopie
The Resistance Trilogy was amazing! Coop, Deathmatches, Singleplayer everything was fun! Good times!
Gaming Kick they need to bring it back
I bought a PlayStation 3 specifically for Resistance. It is still almost the only thing I own on it. I LOVE them. And the cooperative was amazing and even the online was great and I usually don’t like online. There are a few other games I intend to get but this was what I got it for. If they made a 4 I would buy a ps4. It’s pretty much the only way I would.
Yp. Sad to see it gone
I miss the co-op gameplay. Storyline wasn't bad aswell.
Resistance: Retribution was pretty awesome too.
"Battlefield 3, Killzone 3, Uncharted 3, Modern Warfare 3, Resistance 3..."
Thats a lot of three's. I wish valve could achive that number.
びんびんごはんケーキー I always see 2011 as the year of the number 3.
Too close to home man
Don't forget Gears of War 3 :P
For the ps3
Don't forget Saints Row the Third lol
in 2009, my older brother and I went through co-op resistance 1 and 2, wonderful memories, miss this time☹️
It was the one time my father was willing to give a game a try
@@ImNotFine44 Got my dad into consol games myself haha
Great memories with my dad as well we completed the game well over 30 times. He would wake me up on Sundays at like 5am just to play it, we would beat it before football came on in the afternoon, the nostalgia is real and one of the things I took for granted he died 10 years ago yesterday, thats what brought me here and it's great to see comments about other dads and sons playing this master piece. It's a huge coincidence 🤔
@@HadeZStudios It's so touching to hear someone else shared the same experiences as me, replaying the game over and over with their loved ones. Man what I would give to go back 15 years to those days...
@@lstatic21 a ps5 remaster would be awesome, insomniac definitely should do it, they would absolutely make some EZ money, its not exactly easy to remaster a game, but it's not as long as a process compared to rewriting a new one..
Resistance didn't fall. It played itself out and the developers chose to let the series go after giving it a proper conclusion instead of attempting to milk it for endless sequels. As it should be.
Exactly how it should be but not for Activision.
What conclusion? Chimera are still on Earth, we still know almost to none of them, we dont know who wiped them of the Earth 60 million years ago. We know nothing and humanity achieved nothing.
Resistance's world has a lot of potential.
@@archie2038 Resistance won't make the cut for Sony and Insomniac seems busy these days with Spider man.
@@archie2038 They were dead dead though, it ends with you killing them all then humanity having to live through a second ice age
I've still got all three Resistance games on Disc for my PS3.

F to Killzone and Resistance
Same dude
I grew up playing resistance. Damn those were some good memories
tom 95 i played all of them and the co op with my brother, good times
tom 95 I thought resistance fall of man was amazing when I was a kid. I still do today.
tom 95 same I just wished that resistance continued it's series sadly there's was an end to it....
Played coop for years
"Until it comes home"
That sent chill down my spine
Same. That must mean.... in the future we might see another resistance game but maybe its from a different game developer (they might sell and give the rights about the idea of the game and the franchise) kinda like The Last of Us, except the part of a different developer. The Last of Us 1 was released in 2014* (*I think, correct me if I'm wrong) The Last of Us was released this year 2020, maybe in the near future they might have another story to the series. You get the idea right?
@@bluehernandez3594 in all honesty what i would love to se in resistance 4 is a campaign in russia fighting all the way back to the chimeran point of origin on earth, fighting with the cloven, answering many yet unanswered questions and finally finding out what caused the mass chimeran extinction millions of years ago, what caused them to leave and what the alien race that caused this actually is
Resistance 2’s multiplayer was one of the biggest masterpieces on console. It was so ahead of its time
And Man does this series need to rise again! At least ps4 versions!
Joe, The Alternative Gamer Never going to happen after resistance 3 and burning skies Poor sales
Gorgeous Gremac never say never
Joe, The Alternative Gamer ughhhh
I would only be interested if it became an arcade shooter like the original
There's really no story left in the Resistance games. It be better if all games got remastered.
Who thinks the Resistance trilogy needs a PS4 remaster.
14 people.
I'd get a PS4 for that
Only the third one.
@@DrSleazoid Why? I want the second Resistance and 3. Resistance 1 feeling old I think should stay that way it's feel weird to have resistance 3 or even 2s movement in that game.
I’d play it!!!
Resistance 2 was such a great game. I love the giant bosses and the closed dark grim locations. The game had such a way to make you feel different ways... please bring these games back.
2019 and want Resistance 4. Resistance 2 Coop still haunts my dreams.
It should be an online only game if it does happen and that probably won't happen tbh because it's a series remembered much more for the campaign than it's online. Resistance 3 concluded the single player experience perfectly. Humanity won the war and they shouldn't mess with a fantastic trilogy of games.
If they have made Resistance Remastered for the PS4 then confirm I'll buy it 🤧
Ken Hou I'll be the first one to buy it ;)
They definitely must make it....
I would rather have a brand new Resistance game for PS4 rather than a remaster.
Killzone and Resistance Remastered Collection. PS4 instant buy
This 1000%
I felt like I was alone in a dark alley wondering what happened to Resistance....thank you for showing me that someone else gave a shit too
The Resistance series was so criminaly underrated, man. Resistance 2 was the first game ever that I played on the PS3 when I get it to christmas, and it has an special place in my heart. #BringResistanceBack
"we believe that the series has reached it's logical conclusion"
What you really mean is "we believe that the series has lost its profitability"
I don't know, Resistance 3's plot did feel like a good ending to the series. I'm sure that Insomniac would have made more if it would have been profitable, however I feel that Resistance 3 was a good a place to stop as any. Quit while you're on top right?
Noah Mincheff they planned on 3 being the ending to the series it’s in some of the unlockable dev diaries in the game
There are only 2 logical conclusions to the series, either dark: Human extinction, or Light: The extermination of all Chimera left on Earth.
Right.
No, they ended the game where they felt was right. This is something most companies won't even remotely consider.
It makes me sad that this series died. I fucking love it. The trilogy and Retribution on the PSP are all such great shooters. I have not played the Vita game
The vita version is just like r3 but toucgscreen and an axe
It would be cool if they did a Resistance prequel set in Russia during the start of the outbreak, and the rise of the Cloven. Ad like a Metro 2033 feel to it.
An early pitch for Resistance 3 was actually this exact idea. It ultimately got scrapped, as Insomniac felt that it was too removed from Capelli and Hale's story, but I can see it working as a reboot, given how long its been since Burning Skies.
Perhaps they were too ahead of their time, a Resistance game of that nature now would be perfect for a revival. Although, I'm thinking something between the newest metro game and something of an RPG à la Fallout Vegas.
Does Resistance REALLY need RPG elements?
Can't we just stick with gun upgrades?
maybe a alternative WW2 where Nazis experiment on making super soldiers but it goes wrong and causing the infection to go widespread would be an idea for the story?
zakback99 There were never any Nazis in Resistance.
r3 was a damn good game that is severely under-appreciated
I still remember it to this day

Dr. Loomis it was OK

By far my favorite story in a trilogy. I'd pay full price for every single game again to get a PC release of them.
same, but chances are slim to none if Sony still owns the rights
try running pcsx3 if you have a good pc
Chances of that are pretty low . Your best bet use an emulator

I didn't play the Resistance trilogy till about a year ago & Im bummed that the franchise died with a whimper. Kinda like Dead Space (oh god i love that franchise) I wish there was another Resistance game developed.
Hey everyone! I wrote the script for this video, and had a great time doing so; resistance 3 is one of my favorite shooters on the PS3. I'll be hanging out in the comments answering any comments, questions, or concerns you might have for the next hour or so. Thank you for watching!
lol
You two are liars. Its obvious I wrote the script.
Oh dear
Alexander Kozina The narrative is worthy of the culture and i appreciate the channel's effort. What i have is more of a request specialy about syphon filter being also a forgotten gem in the last and current gen, and an episode would provide more insight to what the game went through and also what it could have become.
Thanks again for the awesomenes and quality of your content guys.
We'll definitely look in Syphon Filter. The develop of the first game in that series in particular is especially interesting (as Sony Bend had just come off of making the infamously poorly received Bubsy 3D), and I think that there's a very interesting story to tell. Thanks for the suggestion!
I’ve been a fan since 2008. It’s sad every time I remember this game. But it was a great ride tbh.
Narrator has all the matter-of-factness of a History Channel presentation on WW2 and the enthusiasm to match it.
God damn. That Kraken boss fight in 2 was amazing. And getting swarmed by those zombie chimera (forgot their name) with a full squad of players was just good fun.
If they have made Resistance 2 Remastered for the PS4 or Resistance 4, confirm I'll buy it. ( Resistance 2 was my favourite of the franchise ).
id actually buy a console just to play a new resistance game like resistance 2, god exploring the American towns taken over by the chimera was bone chilling
Pretty sure Insomniac themselves dislike Resistance 2 the most. The online was dope though.
@@tomstonemale : I'm pretty sure as well, which is weird because consensus seemed to be fans preferred it. The multiplayer and co-op for 2 was the best, and the story was the most exciting, imo. It was nice that 3 brought back couch co op, the weapon wheel, med kits, and just better general combat, but I feel like Insomniac was just done wiht the series at that point. You can just tell with the Phantom Menace fairy tale ending.

Rise and Fall of Lost Planet?
Noted!
Filmcameras4evr YES
i would wet my pants if a video about lost planet will be published
Filmcameras4evr Just CAPCOM being CAPCOM. DmC, Lost Planet 3, & their obsession over milking action-like RE games (like RE6, REORC, & Umbrella Corps) while abandoning other great franchise like Onimusha, Megaman, etc. Only just recently they redeemed themselves with RE7, RER1 & 2, Dragon's Dogma remaster, & the promising MH World.
next up rise and fall of paragon
The intro made me wanna cry, so nostalgic we all have been nowadays...
There are so many players out there that would come back to this multi-player/map format in a heartbeat. It was the competition and worldwide friendships, that made this an experience of a lifetime. ☮️ ✌️
The second game had some fantastic boss fights. The leviathan and kraken where both cool as one was in the middle of the water on board and the other was in a skyscraper. They were easy, but they were still really fun and cool imo. The swarm was weird though. I didn’t Fuck with that boss
I could barely pay attention to the bosses in R2. They all just felt incredibly hollow and random; I mean, why was the 2nd to last boss an adventure quest zard?
The bosses were all heavily scripted so they weren't that great, just visual fluff to help sell the game. The Swarm was interesting, and even made a reappearance in another game of theirs, Sunset Overdrive.
Man I remember the PSP Retribution spin off, had a blast playing it at the time
Wonder Waffle I totally forgot I played that one on my psp alot as well
That was the first Resistance game I played. Fucking loved that thing! Then the one from Vita was the second one I played... it, uh, looks nice, I guess. Touchscreen aspect of it was a waste, the story was forgettable, the uh... FUCK, that was so long ago I don't even remember the things that made it suck, which is a good thing I guess. I do remember I was excited to play it and when I beat it was disappointed and the very next day traded it in for something else.
I loved Retribution so much I got it for emulator but didn't play it for years because it crashed on the first level (there's a fix using code to do it but I don't know that much about compooters) as soon as you take control of the player, finally fixed the crash using a fix on YT (by changing emulator settings) but now there's a few smaller problems and the frame rate is a bit off, still playable, but not the way I want to enjoy it. One day, one day...
I dont even remember how i ended up with it, i think it might have been a gift. Regardless, it was a fun one. It was my travel game too, great time killer when it came to long road trips and flights
Resistance was just a fun bundle, like that game also killed the boredom of long flights and roadtrips for me, i just recall the fun i had with the weapons, and even got sucked into the story. That and James Grayson had a KILLER bomber jacket. Man i would love to rock that thing
Retribution was a fantastic game it had a better story than fall of man and 2 although I definitely enjoyed those games too
A resistance trilogy ps4 release would be icing on the cake for that system. Not even a remaster, just a compilation.
Resistance: Fall of Man was my first PS3 game. It also made me more interested in science fiction and its alternate history setting revived my interest in 20th century military history. It's a pity it never got any novels. :(
First ps3 game was Ratchet and Clank 1 ps3 version. Still have it, and I still love it.
It was your first PS3 game because it was the game that launched with the ps3. Cool
It did though! There are two novels based off of this series: Resistance Gathering Storm and A Hole in the Sky both of which are fantastic. Highly recommend!
I truly miss Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. (RFOM more so). Those games were my highschool experience, and I was so in love with those games before I had an Xbox 360. I swore that before Resistance came out, that it was going to be amazing and give Halo a run for its money. Boy was I wrong, but even though I was, i loved every moment of playing Resistance. I loved the multiplayer, the single player and all of its weapons (Although there was literally never any ammo for the Hailstorm in #1), and most importantly the Chimera. The Chimera were so badass and memorable. They are to this day one of my favorite alien/virus bad guys in a video game. I remember I would come home and do nothing but play CTF with friends all night long and re-visit the story all the time to just experience it all again. Ah the memories. What I would do for a complete remaster of 1 and 2 for the PS4. Now that would be a dream come true.
The Rise and Fall of TimeSplitters
Oh hellll yea, still waiting for time splitters rewind!!
WE NEED A NEW GAME
That one really hurts, considering its "fall" was almost entirely because of the LucasArts management changes that caused Battlefront III's cancellation. Free Radical basically collapsed right when that project fell through.
Not sure if you're all aware of this, but Homefront: The Revolution has a fully playable Siberia level from TS2 since a bunch of former FR devs made Dambuster Studios. Now that it's had a few patches, I have to say that it's a surprisingly good game.
Amen brother
Bad Texture Don't forget how Haze took important resources from Free Radical, which resulted in them not meeting deadlines anymore
When I tell you that I've spent hours in the Resistance 2 Co-op mode... fam, I have spent HOURS. I leveled up all 3 classes and collected all of the Grey Tech.
When they came out with Global Resistance, I spent hours making a base and in the group chats coordinating with the other players. I really loved this series man.
The first game was shockingly good for a launch title. I loved the main rifle in that game, 50 rounds and a grenade launcher, made it really reliable and scarface like lol
To be honest, a remaster for the Resistance series ala the remaster for Uncharted would be pretty damn neat.
Played and loved them all was gutted they never made anymore
Michael Duffey They were all different but I loved them all.
I was finding RFOM matches for CTF so many years after it came out. I also really miss RE2's multiplayer and 8 player co-op. I still own them all. love them.
I love RFOM coop and multiplayer. Still remember how me and my brother were playing this game.
And I really like how multiplayer had a great variety of customization like you could adjust your health, available weapons during the match and so on
A Resistance: Fall of Man re-imagining with graphical changes, gameplay improvements, and additions to online would be really nice.
I feel like I'm watching a PBS documentary. That's a good thing. I'm not even going to skip ads. You deserve whatever revenue you can get for these masterpieces.
resistance 1, 2, and 3 were always my favorite fps game of all time
If they remaster Resistance, the multiplayer needs be intact as well. Especially, Resistance: Fall of Man's multiplayer.
I still remember getting my first Playstation 3 and watching my dad play Resistance on it.
Thank you Insomniac Games
Resistance 1, 2, 3 Collection PS4?! :'-(
With the success of the DOOM remaster and relaunch. It would be nice to see a rework, remaster and relaunch of Resistance.
+Mike Fenton Well Doom is a almost universally known game. Resistance isn't as well known as Doom. Although I think it would be a cool idea to remaster it.
Resistance 3 is easily the best campaign followed by the first one.

...uh...relative to the others in the franchise, what else?
AnEn
I am 100% sure he was not comparing this game’s campaign relative to others in the genre...

Maybe if the comment section is full of praise then it ain’t so ‘mediocre’ as you like to portray it to be...
AnEn
Aw...who’s a cute little pseudo-intellectual?...yes you are!....yes you are!
Joking aside you have inflated this game’s following way,way out of proportion...how big of a following do you think this game honestly has that it has lead to a rather large, dedicated fan base full of as you in your infinite wisdom put it: “tasteless fanboys”.
Also I’m still in the mindset that he was indeed comparing campaigns between the games in the franchise as when people compare a game’s campaign they usually do it between game’s in the same franchise, which don’t you dare deny because you know it to be true.
Also...”Triggered?”...Ha,Redpilled much?

Why do you talk like an anime villain? What’s with this “Game.Set.Match”...I can’t help but picture the most neckbeard-y of people behind that keyboard...maybe owns a katana...lots of figures...just get that impression...
So Mr.200 I.Q, what would you consider a ‘good game’...lemme guess?...Half life...oh boy can I have a field day with that circle jerked mess of unoriginality...
I still remember this series fondly. Hope it makes a comeback someday.
“Instead of charging $180 for a game, we’re charging $60... pffff, Go figure...”
Aaaaand the birth of microtransactions are now a thing.
Yeah that guy was an ass for saying that honestly.
@@xfinafire He wasn't, like the documentary said they worked way past scope. Resistance 2 had a well tuned single player that wasn't dull, a cooperative mode with active leveling up and customization of your character, and then finally a multiplayer that had arena and class like modes from call of duty. Bio shock 1 is on the same level of complexity in terms of resources as resistance 2's story alone. They did everyone a huge favor by being good producers for their consumers by making the game 60 dollars. He was saying "go figure" because they know their effort despite being rightfully priced at $180, no one would buy it.

this is one of the best games I'd played. this deserves a remaster. and killzone 1,2,3 😭😭😭😭
This trilogy has awesoms lore and hidden intel , trullg dark and terrifying. I used to shake when i first played fall of man at 10 years old
Resistance 2 was my favourite of the franchise.
I agree, Resistance 2 was the biggest reason I purchased a PS3 when it first released... That and God of War.
SHONENJUMPBOY Same here, one of my favorite games.
I played just bit of the first one , but I heard a lot of good about the series , make me want to find the copy and try it again if free time will be available)
I loved every Resistance game
Cooperative mode was crazy fun. Spent countless hours playing that mode.
Who could dislike this video? It's so incredibly well done.
@KeizerGodzilla so mature of you
@KeizerGodzilla Flashbacks to middle school.
KeizerGodzilla halo is amazing
Wish they would have talked about the giant bosses in RFOM2..leviathan, that last level where Hale goes nuts
the resistance 2 multiplayer was so much fun :D
Resistance 1 was one of the game which allowed us to bond a lot with my little brother, playing together and crushing the campaign. When the 2 went out, we were crazy. You can imagine the disapointment when we discover there was no coop campaign. Living in a remote village in France, we had almost no internet and couldn't even play the coop mod...
PLEASE REMASTER THE TRILOGY ON THE PS4 or PS5 WHEN IT COMES OUT.
Same.
i always thought resistance was more succesful than kilzone
The coop in R2 was amazing. Some of the best memories and moments I’ve ever had in terms of video games
I have to chime in here to say that Resistance 3's box art is masterpiece material. Simplistic and yet something I'd love to have framed in my living room.
Resistance should've been an incredible take on the typical ww2, Cold War genre
Ah, what could've been
Yeah, because stuff like that has never been done before....
Dude the first resistance was sooo fun as a split screen campaign. one of the best almost as good as halo.
Kyros Droztamyr Arma 1 did that, so did World in Conflict, Command and Conquer, Hotline Miami 2, GoldenEye 007, and Operation Flash Point Cold War Crysis.
Goldeneye 007? What?
Yeah you're right, it was basically 1 man against Russians, not a case of cold war gone hot. As for Hotline Miami 2, well Hawaii was invaded then the whole world gets nuked so if that's not a hot war i don't know what is.
i liked the franchise but it suffered from a identity crisis.
The 3rd game returned gameplay elements from the original & was even better.
Resistance 3 biggest problem was the release date. They released it in 2011, which was the best year of this decade for game releases. We had Battlefield 3, Killzone 3, Uncharted 3, Batman Arkham City, Skyrim, Dark Souls, Portal 2, Saints Row 3, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Dead Island, Witcher 2, Dead Space 2, Crysis 2, Infamous 2 and the 3DS console. Not every game could become a comercial success.
Just about each of those games were successful, except Crysis 2 and Idk bout Killzone 3.
Exactly. All of those games belonged to very successful franchises (except Dead Island and maybe The Witcher 2) and all of those franchises had more fans and recognition than Resistance. If Resistance 3 had come out in 2012, it would've been way more successful since that year was kinda weak in AAA releases.
Seamus McKnight thats a very good way to put it
Resistance 2 was my favourite game on the ps3. The absolute chaotic 60 player battles were lit 🔥.
The weapons design were actually incredible. The M5A2 Folsom Carbine is something easily possible from that time period.
Watching this just made me buy Resistance: Fall of Man for the 3rd time. Awesome documentary as always!
I would buy a PS4 just for another Resistance game.
I still have my ps3 plugged in and play these games sometimes. It's something special about them
Thanks for giving some love to Resistance 3. I thought it was a terribly underrated gem. This is purely anecdotal, but one of the things I believe hurt Resistance 3 was some of the changes in Resistance 2 that diverged from the core gameplay of the first game. I know a lot of people that were turned off from the series with Resistance 2.
Resistance Retribution is on of my best all time game back in college days. Multiplayers was fun, campaign was immersive. James Grayson!!!
Rise and Fall of Killzone?
Eggsy Mason killzone 3 was soooo good
God... I don't wanna see that. I pray they right the wrong that was shadow fall. I think Killzone 2 and 3 remaster would be successful with 60 fps and lower multiplayer latency.
Talon Marshall you’re he reason these developers become lazy and remaster games.
Would rather see an easy remaster of the phenomenal multiplayer that was Killzone 2, than never see a Killzone 4. Or see a Killzone 4 that was rushed out like Shadowfall.
Could be interesting but everyone of the Killzone games I ever played always felt so incredibly meh in it's game feel, stories and aesthetics that I'm not sure it would be worth it - it's odd actually seems like a series they just get a company to shit out in an almost mandatory fashion for each new Sony device.
Of course, that's just my opinion on the series.
If there isnt a new entry i just ask for a remake of Fall of Man, imagine a World War II setting with Chimera as the enemies. With the power of the ps5, if Bluepoint develop it it could be amazing
This is the way.
All the resistance games were worth playing in their day. Even the switch version. It is my hope that one day these games can comeback.
The switch version?
Switch?
This was so beautifully narrated!
Someday I hope Resistance will return. The campaign and competitive multiplayer in R2 was a big let down for me. The 8 player co-op was amazing. The PS3 changed so much from 2008 to 2011, and Resistance was mostly forgotten. R3 is still my favorite Insomniac game overall. I think the marketing for R3 hurt it a lot too. I thought the box art was great, but didn't really tell us anything. The Kevin Butler commercial portrayed it as a PS Move and 3D game with the PS Sharpshooter and such.
As for Retribution and Burning Skies, they were fine, but especially didn't like Retribution. I know people think its great, but I never got into it. Burning Skies was just okay, and a sad end to Resistance.
R2 was a very good game the online competitive and coop
was amazing
R3 had the bad sides and good sides to it honestly.
That being and the ending pissed me off.
Ricky Dupon Oh right.. yeah that ending was a big let down. I forgot about that lol.
BossmanCCrowder1 and we still haven't figured out the biggest mystery of resistance: our enemies
Unfortunately Ted Price confirmed there is not Resistance games anymore. Btw is there any chance they turn the servers back on?
I really like Resistance 3. It still holds up to this day. Graphically and in playability
Wish you could play it on pc or newer consoles
@@aumua2876 a full HD 60 fps remaster of the trilogy would just be incredible
Resistance 3 is one of the most underrated games ever made. Its a masterpiece. One of the best pure fps to tell an awesome story.
I find it funny that all the people that seem to want to make "Halo killers" went with muddy grey and brown set in familiar places at some point.
Seemed to be a common thing with games from 2007-2010
Just look at the original gears of war it's colour palate is mostly brown and grey
The Boss Stage1 yeah but Gears can get away with that because it wasn’t advertised as a Halo Killer. It strived to be different
Not So Melancholy
And with an super soldier.
Halo is already dead sadly
Hans Sandhu it’s almost as if I wasn’t referencing this year
The 3rd game was very good
Devastated that Resistance 2 PVE coop is gone. Enjoyed it thoroughly and only ever hoping for a remaster or sequel that probably won’t ever come is disheartening.
Resistance 3 > killzone shadowfall
The alternative history sci-fi franchise Resistance had so much promise. It's such a shame these trilogy games that came out during peak of COD franchise, which im sure hurt its sales & resulted in Sony & Insomniac games discontinuing further games in this promising franchise. You can tell Insomniac Games were establishing a vast promising sci-fi franchise that never really got fully fleshed out eg full back story of Chimeran race & mysterious faction that collector's lore notes kept referring to who created 'Gray tech' who battled the chimeran race
For me Resistance 1 was the best! I love the way the story was told. The weapons! And multiplayer
I love your Rise and Fall videos!
This channel has been extremely useful for research about games I never played. The history, general reception, plot synopsis, and differences in scope and gameplay are great pieces of information for someone looking into these series for the first time.
I love how your team isn't overly rude or cynical, and treats each abandoned game series as a genuine loss. Even if the final entry in a series is poor, you don't kick a series or its fans while they're down.
You guys do incredible work, and I hope your channel explodes in popularity. The games being talked about just aren't in the public eye right now, but hopefully your channel becomes huge once people get nostalgic for the seventh generation.
Keep up the incredible work. 💜
Killing off Nathan Hale in Resistance 2 was also a big nail in the coffin I think. Like mentioned in the video, the series needed an iconic protagonist and if they went into designing a converted Nathan Hale and made him look pretty unique, he could've been a cool flagship character.
