When you play her, yes. When you are a DPS/Tank only, Mercy player are just brain dead, no aim and no skill. I'm a Mercy main so you already know my point of view.
@@MrEpyLeptik it’s so funny that they think mercy is boring and takes no skill and my teammates would also get mad at me for not having more healing than an ana or moira lol
@@fatherpleasereturn2088 yeah, im silver but i actually got the hang of using mercy really well, i do mistakes with her GA and i do some dumb decisions, but honestly i think the things holding me down are some games where one team rolls the other. usually my team gets killed immediately, so i switch to kiriko in order to do more dps and potentially get more picks which would help my team get kills, bc i switch to a more dps-type support if my dps cant do enough.
im a diamond rein main and ive gotta say after watching a lot of these vids and trying mercy on my own......it feels like a whole new world of overwatch has been opened in my mind that I never really considered. Definitely going to get better at mercy, I feel as though it will help my game sense overall.
She’s one of the best heroes to learn game sense on imo. You’re really not having to focus on much besides your movement and now with the GA nerf, you don’t have to focus on it as much. This leaves you with a LOT of mental space to focus on gamesense things like positioning, ult tracking, making callouts, etc. Even with Rez, you have to make an assessment of whether or not it’s safe to try, which forces you to consider where the soul is positioned, where the enemy team is positioned, and where an ally for you to fly away and back to cover is once the Rez is complete. What Mercy lacks in mechanical skill requirements, she makes up for in microdecision making. A lot of supports that mess up their positioning can save themselves with their own abilities or combat potential but all Mercy has is GA and the dinky pistol (where if you win a 1v1 with it, it’s generally because the other player whiffed). So you need to be verrrrrry careful about positioning with her because once you screw up, you have to live (or die) with that decision because nothing in her kit is going to save you the way other supports have rip
I also believe it would be very beneficial for anybody who plays tank or damage to play mercy just so they can get an understanding of the support role. It’s beyond annoying when you’re getting yelled at by people telling you how to play the role that they have never played before.
No. Mercy mains are the worst tanks and even more bad dps. There is a reason for that and it's not mechanical reason at all. I'm former Mercy main myself and we gotta stop pretending it's not a pattern. Mercy is designed to be passive support that follows the battle, not opens it. Every other support have more to their kit to make a play and impact a match here and there, not only follow. Ana is way better for learning gaming sense, if that's what you seek, you can and you should control the battle with anti and sleep, where Mercy's only objective is to enable dps and occasionally fix some mistakes with res. Can she shut down enemy tank completely? Can she clutch save her team from enemy ultimate? Can she damage pressure effectively while healing at the same time? Can she be a threat to squishes? No. Mercy is very good at her objectives but that's it. It's so not very complex, despite what all these Mercy main contents creators try to portray. And if you are not aware enough, Mercy actually might damage your good habits of being aggressive or looking for play. Her whole mentality is about "escape - enable - escape". That's the worst mentality for other roles. So yeah, I wouldn't suggest you to play her every match.
@@rezq9109 I think you have missed the entire point of what was being said in this section it was not about you should play Mercy every game, and I never said anything about them being good tanks or dps I said it would be good for those who do play tank or dps to play support like mercy yo understand better. Just like it would be beneficial as a support main for me to play as tank or dps to understand those roles better. Because when you are willing to play the different roles and understanding them, it can help you. For example, with mercy when you start playing as her you have to learn her cooldowns. And because I played her quite a bit I know her cool down. So now if I play as a tank and the enemy team has mercy I know as soon as she does rez i have 30 secs to strike. A really big thing that made me instantly improve as mercy was just never flying when you dont need to fly. GA is an escape/dodging movement tool; if you can stay behind cover never giving enemies LOS and do your job, then just stay behind cover (Beam lasts for ~2s without LOS to target, so use this as much as possible). Floating down is also a very big trap for mercy players. 80% of the time, you would never want to float down, as that makes you an easier target to hit. The other 20% of the time is when you NEED to be high up to take advantage of LOS. 1:38 I have to point this issue out. The body is literally in walking distance, using GA there puts you vulnerable. If the enemies went on a massive push there, you would get caught off-guard without an escape. Imagine a winton jumping on you as you GA to res, yikes. (Niandra points the waste of GA out at 5:50 as well) 6:21 and 7:27 as well, dont waste GA, just stay behind cover as much as possible. 2:20 Also, please heal squishies to full instead of leaving them at 175, as this allows soujorn to oneshot them. Beam micromanagement is important for squeezing the most value out; 5 damage is the difference between life and death against soujorn. (also bad beam micromanagement at 9:00) 3:20 Bad positioning, being too out in the open and not having any cover for when their dps targets you leads to most of your deaths. 9:30 Yes, seeing more is important for managing your team's health resources. Frantic spinning to see all your teammates is never punished and always gives you more information. I'm not saying that you should spin, but spin. Overall this mercy understands a decent amount of what to do, but fails in staying safe and maximising beam usage. Their movement is also very clunky and they waste GA a LOT. The main issue with most low rank mercy mains is that they either dont do enough, or are vulnerable too often. Having full situational awareness will also help them a lot, because they mostly disregard slightly hurt teammates (which is very bad when playing against high burst dmg characters such as soujorn).

Have you ever done a guide on the best times to pop mercy’s ult? For me I usually use it when I have more than 2 critical teammates but I feel like I could be utilizing her ult better.
In my experience popping an ult when youre about to go into a teamfight can give you a big advantage as you can damage amp more rather than have to heal your teammates and you can get more value out of the ult :D
If the enemy Mercy ults, wait a bit before also popping your ult, and then fly up to her as her valk ends and pop her in the skull gotta show em who's boss
I think it's best not to limit your decision making to something like numbers, i.e., two people are critical, I'm using it. I don't mean to say it's that simple for you because I'm sure it's not. but I think it's better to have a PROACTIVE plan, not a REACTIVE one. obviously, sometimes you just gotta valk for healing, it's not bad to valk just for healing if that's what your team needs. but I think it's better to have more of a process. for example, if two people are critical, who are they? a tank being critical means they could have, like, 300 hp. that's still quite a lot. if two Squishies are low, do they really need Valkyrie chain healing or are they positioned in a way where just beaming them normally is fine? however, maybe the team fight is actively happening and your team is brawl-y and they can't disengage easily and you can see multiple people are getting low and just juggling your beam around is starting to feel like not enough. that's a situation where healing with valk might be the highest value use of it. also! if multiple people are low, always remember that you don't need to heal one person to full before moving onto someone else, especially if that person is a tank with a mitigation cool down ready (shield, etc). even if its two squishies, sometimes it's best to get one person above half health and then swap to someone else. your teammates don't need to be full hp to help win the fight. they only need 1 hp. I think it can also be helpful to remember that healing is only ONE of the things you can do at any given time. one. it is not inherently the most important, and it is not always the right choice. sometimes it's better to just save valk for the next fight and use it to damage boost. ml7 has a GREAT vod review of a bronze mercy that has insane advice, and something he said stuck with me. he said, yes, you need to heal your team but you also need to win the fight. so using valk for healing can sometimes be the right move, but it's not the only move and sometimes it's the wrong move. I think the best way to learn how to use it more optimally is just to take risks. yes, it might worry you and be kinda scary, but try damage boosting longer than feels safe. play a ton of games where you NEVER use it defensively. you're never going to find the limits of what you can do if you never push them. and the best way to learn how to use your ult optimally is to find every single non-optimal way to use it lol so just try different things. don't limit yourself to specific criteria or only use valk to heal. play a bunch of games where you try something and then watch them back and see how it went (don't look or pay any attention to stats, they are not helpful at all 99% of the time). see what worked and what didn't.
I just reached plat yesterday and i hope i'll be able to climb even more, especially when Niandra posts, gives me a boost of hope. I always forget to check where enemy dps is so i hope i can become better at that
I feel this so hard. it's really hard because you have to be aware of EVERYTHING your team is doing and that's a lot to manage! and then there's also the whole enemy team you also have to be aware of, it's tough. just find something very simple and easy to start with, don't try to just be aware of everything all at once. if all you do is start just keeping track of one of the enemy dps, I think that's a massive W and a great place to start. this is a hard game and we all need to just work on things one at a time imo

Her talking abt healing brain with mercy, really makes me wanna try out those settings where damageboost and healing are on the opposite parts of the mouse to see how I do lol But I also worry I would let allies die because I forgot where my healing is 😂 Also - those 3 ults agaisnt a mercy valk hurts but also brings up my confidence weirdly? Lol like aww you think my valk is worth like 3 massive ults in retaliation 💀
It seems like they are still use to the old GA, which is what im guilty of. Im struggling to get use to it because i keep thinking i can do these movements without thinking there is a cooldown for it.
This plat mercy have alot of feering from dying and he should be faster and confident in his acts And sometimes he left someone unhealed for too long more than one time or he heal the tank before the dbs even when the tank was at safe health If he fix this points he would be alot better
As someone who has issues with hitting the keys fast enough to use Mercy’s movement abilities apart from a basic forward slingshot (pushing 40yo so my dexterity certainly isn’t there any more) so you have any tips on the ‘easiest’ set of keybinds to utilize her directional superjump? Probably an awkward question but I thought I’d try. 🌺
I HIGHLY recommend an MMO mouse. they aren't too expensive and they have 12 buttons on the side. I rebound crouch to 7 on my mouse, which is the button that my thumb most naturally lands on when holding the mouse. 4 is melee so it's within easy reach. it also helps with voice lines - I have I need healing and group up on my mouse too, which is super nice to have. you also don't need to use all of the buttons, but most mice just come with two buttons and that's not enough for me personally.

watching this in late 2024 and its crazy how bad plat was in ow2 release. Obv still get bad players like this, but mercy gets punished so fast now, and that other support was trolling in this game
I believe Niandra still offers vod reviews as a patreon reward (I might be wrong though), but they also have a discord where people will do vod reviews for free. not always in depth but any amount of constructive feedback is helpful. also, the most helpful thing in my experience has been reviewing my own vods after seeing a lot of reviews so I know what to look for and can critique myself. but external feedback is super helpful too! recently a friend reviewed one of my replays and it actually helped something really click for me, so I definitely recommend doing both!
diamond and up absolutely do need to review their vods and have others look at their games if they want to stay diamond+ or climb higher. you don't stop learning just because you hit a certain rank and even if you're top 500, you can always do more and you can always be better.

@@RayJames-mk3yq on occasion yes. Depends on the dps im playing alongside. Have less deaths with soilder and bastion type heros. Pharah results in more deaths, or heros like junkrat. there is a reason why i reached plat 2 a few months ago
@@AbigailS25 if you're committing so hard to your teammates' risky plays without an escape plan of your own, is that really THEIR fault? or is it yours? something to think about. if you can't keep yourself safe while playing with a Pharah..... don't play with the Pharah. any value you might get from damage boosting them and then dying on cooldown will be outshined immediately by the value you get by staying alive and helping the rest of your team who is likely to be positioned more safely. the worst mistake you can make as a support is relying on your team to keep you safe or trusting that they will position in a way that will also be safe for you.

obviously, sometimes you just gotta valk for healing, it's not bad to valk just for healing if that's what your team needs. but I think it's better to have more of a process.
for example, if two people are critical, who are they? a tank being critical means they could have, like, 300 hp. that's still quite a lot. if two Squishies are low, do they really need Valkyrie chain healing or are they positioned in a way where just beaming them normally is fine?
however, maybe the team fight is actively happening and your team is brawl-y and they can't disengage easily and you can see multiple people are getting low and just juggling your beam around is starting to feel like not enough. that's a situation where healing with valk might be the highest value use of it.
also! if multiple people are low, always remember that you don't need to heal one person to full before moving onto someone else, especially if that person is a tank with a mitigation cool down ready (shield, etc). even if its two squishies, sometimes it's best to get one person above half health and then swap to someone else. your teammates don't need to be full hp to help win the fight. they only need 1 hp.
I think the best way to learn how to use it more optimally is just to take risks. yes, it might worry you and be kinda scary, but try damage boosting longer than feels safe. play a ton of games where you NEVER use it defensively. you're never going to find the limits of what you can do if you never push them. and the best way to learn how to use your ult optimally is to find every single non-optimal way to use it lol
so just try different things. don't limit yourself to specific criteria or only use valk to heal. play a bunch of games where you try something and then watch them back and see how it went (don't look or pay any attention to stats, they are not helpful at all 99% of the time). see what worked and what didn't.
A little battle mercy as a treat 😂😂😂
@@sethescope sweet tips :D since 2 months has past I'm already diamond. Not really that motivated to play comp anymore tho, just kinda playing with friends in qp :)
@@1nutmegg actually pog! good job :D hey listen it's a video game, it's supposed to be fun, and playing unranked with friends is fun. absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying the game however makes you happy :)
my main gripe was that he's always slow/hesitating to pop valk. i find charging mercy ult is quite fast so i wouldn't be that worried about using it in big fights when multiple teammates are critical but he kept hesitating
Thank you! Super helpful showing what you would have done instead.
Awesome positioning tips
Can you do vod review but looking at the beam usage and priority
That could be a fun one!
I didn't think there would be much to talk about but mercy is probably the most movement intensive hero other than Lucio. Guardian angel usage is the difference between good and bad mercys.
in the words of niandra "its important to ask yourself
What should Will have done at 5:25 instead of walking around the corner?
I almost think his constant jumping is a tick or a pacifier reflected in the game.
The mercy pick in the bottom left corner looks so goofy with that skin
I'm...curious to send out a possible game code to review but I suppose its more complicated as well as its being more so a review of my friend on mercy instead of me since I'd be either rein sym or lucio instead
also the trouble being that we're gold (even tho I was higher ranks on support and tank but doesn't matter by now), we are reaching plat sooner than later tho
Her talking abt healing brain with mercy, really makes me wanna try out those settings where damageboost and healing are on the opposite parts of the mouse to see how I do lol
But I also worry I would let allies die because I forgot where my healing is 😂
Also - those 3 ults agaisnt a mercy valk hurts but also brings up my confidence weirdly? Lol like aww you think my valk is worth like 3 massive ults in retaliation 💀
Do it and practice in quick play till you get used to it
It seems like they are still use to the old GA, which is what im guilty of. Im struggling to get use to it because i keep thinking i can do these movements without thinking there is a cooldown for it.
11:05 so we should sacrifice our safety for helping the team?
how do you select vods to review, it would be so cool to see you look at one of my games
No, no, no. They gave Mercy five extra bullets. I intend to use them.
This plat mercy have alot of feering from dying and he should be faster and confident in his acts
And sometimes he left someone unhealed for too long more than one time or he heal the tank before the dbs even when the tank was at safe health
If he fix this points he would be alot better
As someone who has issues with hitting the keys fast enough to use Mercy’s movement abilities apart from a basic forward slingshot (pushing 40yo so my dexterity certainly isn’t there any more) so you have any tips on the ‘easiest’ set of keybinds to utilize her directional superjump? Probably an awkward question but I thought I’d try. 🌺
put "crouch" with the button on the side of your mouse, superjumping is much easier this way
@₊˚bunni୨୧ I will, thank you lots for the advice!
I set as the second keybind for crouch/superjump.
@@sigkil Oh nice! Thank you oodles!
How can I submit a VOD? I just switched to mnk and I feel like I have hit a plato in progression. Im in plat
Id love to get a vod review! How would i apply for this?
how do i get a playstyle review i need it desperately i cant rank up went from plat 2 to gold 5 and idk what im doing wrong
She's hard to play on console with the GA nerf 😢
0 death mercy vod with a big dps gap. Might as well vod review a pharah into mei junkrat
I absolutely love the vid review and would love if you could give me some pointers as I will try to start the ranked grind soon.
me, a GM mercy watching this anyway
This is plat mercy game play and i'm stuck in bronze? I'm gonna be ill.
bro switch to Moira or Kiriko and u will get out of Bronze why do u one trick Mercy with shitty teammates ? Also, bronze players always have a really bad vision on themselves, u maybe aren't playing Mercy as well as u think
How can you get your vods review by you?
watching this in late 2024 and its crazy how bad plat was in ow2 release. Obv still get bad players like this, but mercy gets punished so fast now, and that other support was trolling in this game
Hiii I love your vods they help out so much! Could you maybe vod review my diamond gameplay? I think my rezes could use some work
This whole time I thought it was well not will
how do people get games like this I'm only in silver and all my games have platinum widows/hanzos on the enemy team T~T
8:48 lmaoo
VALKYRIE DOESNT SELF HEAL ANYMORE ?? 😭
i would pay money for a vod review of my mercy gameplay
I believe Niandra still offers vod reviews as a patreon reward (I might be wrong though), but they also have a discord where people will do vod reviews for free. not always in depth but any amount of constructive feedback is helpful. also, the most helpful thing in my experience has been reviewing my own vods after seeing a lot of reviews so I know what to look for and can critique myself. but external feedback is super helpful too! recently a friend reviewed one of my replays and it actually helped something really click for me, so I definitely recommend doing both!
I made a alt just for mercy and im really wanting to get better at her
Crunchy the house
doing this for plat and lower is great tbh, diamond and up dont need a review vid lol
diamond and up absolutely do need to review their vods and have others look at their games if they want to stay diamond+ or climb higher. you don't stop learning just because you hit a certain rank and even if you're top 500, you can always do more and you can always be better.
❤❤❤
“Platinum” positioning makes no sense when you can have anywhere from GM to bronze level team mates. Wins and losses feel random. It’s sad, but it’s just not worth taking the game as seriously as this anymore :(
for you. it's not worth it for YOU. please don't speak for the rest of us who haven't given up on improving.
Can you help a diamond mercy
Can u help me with mine bc damn 😭😭😭
I swear enemy DPS never go for mercy .. just kill mercy ez team fights.
Will plays better than me lol
brave of u to assume my silver lobbies listen to my res pings
Read me to sleep? lol
LOOOL
BRUH meecy is beyond me
mercy is elo inlfated
Im so confused how this person is in plat tho... no shade but I keep deranking. Just 15 losses over and over. And i play a lot better than Willllll here... Awesome video though. I learned some things
Well for starters, they didn't die once the whole game. Can you go a whole plat game without dying?
@@sethescope I typically avoid playing with crappy pharahs. They expect pocket but go flying into a Cassidy. At that point I'll stay on the ground with bastion or someone else.
@@AbigailS25 it was just an example of how you possibly misplay by focusing too much on what your teammates are doing instead of keeping yourself safe. the fact of the matter is that you need to identify the mistakes you make which are holding you back. you may not make the mistakes that the person in this vod review does, but you're making different ones. it's impossible for me to intuit exactly what they are because I can't see your replays but I'm sure that if you spend some time examining your games *critically* and focus on *your* mistakes and deaths and whatnot, you'll find many things to work on.
This person is trying to be pretty too much floating dont fly when its unnecesary
Thank you so much for your videos! You single handedly have been carrying my overwatch mercy career since ow1 with the new ga nerfs my positions had me stuck in plat 1 🥲these vids have really helped w that especially w risky rezes too :)
is there a way i’d be able to get a vod review? i have been struggling to climb and i can’t understand why🥲
