while i see parts of this, they didnt even give venture a chance making skins is a process but not having any upon release, having NOTHING for 3 seasons is egregious, hazard is dropping with at least an epic skin thats more than a pallet swap and a hat instead of goggles, if they know the high picked hero skins sell why not sell them with the lower picked heros like the power ranger theme which had wrecking ball or the halloween one that had torb heros that arent that highly picked
1:27 Didn't Overwtahc have a literal checklist called "Diversity Space Method" where the OG characters were listed by certain elements? Such as age, ethnicity, gender? The new characters are checklists - Venture hit a niche spot they needed, they wanted to appear inclusive, a bunch of dudes in a room would totally nod in agreement and go "Bring out the trans!" all for the spotlight, all for the attention, then hook in and sink their fangs into a naive person thinking they found a safe space. But then again, who care's... who care's about these characters. They're not the OG or ones added, not the writing, not the dedication... they're added all for the sake of COLLAB SKINS BABY! AW YEAH! GET THAT COLLAB SKIN FOR HERO ACADEMIA, YOUR WAIFU JUNO WILL LOOK SICK AS YOUR MANGA WAIFU!! MMM!
I respectfully disagree that venture isn’t a box to check just because you seem to be under the impression that just because someone is an “old straight white man” they’d never add a character for representations sake. I don’t say this because I hate Venture (I am happy they were added) but because I believe it’s the truth. If you think they wouldn’t add a character because it’s ridiculous that they’d believe it would do well for their reputation, they definitely would. Venture as a character feels very off from the world of Overwatch. Every other character added has had some connection to the lore with maybe the exception of Juno (kind of), but venture feels like a character from a different game. Their cinematic trailers notoriously sucked, they have no skins, no interesting interactions (subjective, but true imo), and they were completely forgotten about within a season. Their kit is good but the writing for Venture (by extension, Juno somewhat) is awful. Hazard is interesting but I’d have to see more.
Idk this is just biased. A lot of people love venture, they have a very core audience, their pick rate is low purely because their gameplay is quite limited to being in the enemies face. They have a good personality, it's fun, they are goofy, people like them because of that. They have so much charm and people like you just ignore that. That's not to say that they are definitely not content drained because ye they are, nothing happened with anubis and the way finders have hardly been touched.
The one character where I actually have no idea where they can be related to OW is Illari. Her whole village dies in a freak accident and now she’s just here? At least venture has had some mishaps with talon making sense for them to be there.
@BigPro1123 I kinda hate illaris backstory more so because nothings explained lmao. Idk accidentally genociding an entire tribe or warriors your in is ???????? idk its just weird lmao
While I agree that skins aren't the be all and end all, blizzard has demonstrated a certain level of greed and lazyness regarding skins. They by no means are obligated to deliver purely good skins, since beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But the fact that hazard has a legendary skin in his FIRST Battlepass. And venture STILL has no usable skin yet? Absolutely ridiculous. It means that they don't even care about pick rate since hazard got released with skin. I know skins are purely cosmetic, but the crow mindset a lot of humans possess, means it by no means is irrelevant.
no body wanted ow2 to be f2p, nobody wants to spend $30 on a skin, and wat content 6v6 so they are bringing back original ow, the new content we get is recycled old content, wow cool i got a new name card that everyone has sick
I genuinely believe f2p was the right move, its really the one of the only ways to have a big multiplayer game like this survive and continuously get content.
@@Rohandle not really, yes it brings people in but if the game is a piece of shit, its piece of shit that people won't like to play and move on to better games and with said games having better better dev teams that balance and fix their games im not gonna other games won't overprice their skins, cause they are inflation is a thing and its been happening, best example is marvel rivals skins and bundles costing nearly 20-50 USD
Overwatch adding a trans character has made me question if they are transphobic way more than if they just didnt add them bc its so crazy how nobody cares about venture and the only skin they can "design" is a colab skin and not even a skin for the charecter themselves idc if its stupid its crazy how they just dont give a shit
Well they are adding skins to characters that sell well. Its not blizzards "transphobia" its the average communities inherent likes and dislikes. Blizzard is just messed up bc they have plenty of capital to throw around for any and all characters.
I mean i think its more about who people play as. Lots of people player Mercy, Dva, etc. So why would they spend money on making something not a lot of people would buy? Also, Mercy skins are hot and people like booba. Sex sells i guess?
I notice when it comes to unpopular characters getting skins like sym, LW, illari and torb no one complains they are even excited. When it comes to venture I see people say “she doesn’t deserve a skin” “blizzard won’t make any money” it’s funny how they don’t like the “won’t make enough money” until it comes to venture getting a skin. Shows the real transphobics are the community, not blizzard.
Venture's low play rate could go up if they actually got skins. Skins appearing in the shop or BP tells the player that the character exists, and some people even play characters for their skins.
im gonna keep it real, yes this is about money. do i agree with every aspect of how they are going about generating money from the game? no i dont. I do however think the game needs to make money, and i can tell you I dont think anyone i know would spend money on a venture skin, even a good one, over another hero. its not about their representation as trans, that doesnt bother me. i get that its about inclusivity, and i think inclusivity can be a good thing when done the right way. with that said just because I support venture being in the game doesnt mean Ill find the skins appealing, and i can tell you im not the only one who feels that way. i would dare to say its commonly accepted that there is a smaller percentage of people who would buy a venture skin over a kiriko skin, and blizzard knows this. they do alot of research into what will and wont sell. a venture skin wont sell as well as a kiriko skin, and thats why you see so many kiriko skins. the game has to make money. i know venture has gotten jack shit, and really they should get a skin, but I understand why its not a priority.
Blizzard released a hero with no backstory, no lore implications or affiliation's just a non binary artifact obsessed nerd, which is fine! But they also didn't give them ANYTHING on release besides an emote they reused as a victory pose, and 1 epic skin, they couldn't even be bothered to release VOICE LINES for the hero for fucks sake. Venture was so rushed their default highlight intros and emotes released silently with no announcement into the hero gallery THE FOLLOWING SEASON (the same thing happened to Juno as well, and Hazard too since he has 1 victory pose and 1 of his 2 highlight intros are in the BP) . I don't think Venture is non binary *just* for brownie points, but they definitely all agreed it was time for a non binary hero so they were designed from that concept. Then they probably didn't know what the fuck to do from there, because people would be up in arms if the nonbinary (female to they/them) character got a feminine skin first, but they'd also be mad if venture leaned too masculine, so stuck between a rock and a hard place chose to not give them anything at all, which was the wrong choice for sure.
The real discourse should be about the garbage balancing team (Al-Qaeda) and the fact the new gamemodes blow. Despite the complaints about Clash, they still added it to Ranked. You're absolutely fucked if you don't have a Lucio or play high mobility on Flashpoint. Push is literally designed to prevent stomps and comebacks are way WAY too common. Also, despite being one of the most popular heroes in the game, Winston went 7 MONTHS without getting a new skin so I don't want to hear the "pick rate" excuse.

I get where you're coming from, but to me they fit very easily into OW and personally I love their personality.

@jukefishron honestly very fair, and they have certainly gotten complacent
Blizzard did in fact have a matrix that measured how diverse the characters were and I believe that venture is a marked off box on that list

Winston has a lot of skins already, it isn’t a direct comparison
