      THIS! actually bothered me so much when all the new mercy players were complaining on tiktok that the GA nerf made them have to focus more on positioning instead of just constant SJ to stay in the air. like mercy has always been about positioning especially with old SJ mechanics in overwatch 1

      @@Punk3rGirl Same, a lot of people don't understand what Mercy is all about. Also knowing how to keep yourself safe by positioning is what you want. So if you are solo Queuing you don't have to rely on everyone to keep you safe all the time. Especially when you don't have people who are good at team playing and not realizing when you are been flanked.

      omg I feel this. I honestly don't play with friends much just for this reason. it's hard to ignore the fact it's your friend AND I know I often have a lot of confidence in my friends. even if this confidence isn't misplaced (some of my friends are very good!), it does 100% keep me from trusting my other teammates
      if you trust your friend, you're less likely to take the risk of investing tons of resources into someone else because you don't know how that will turn out

      @@icevee686not in bronze necessarily 😅 but I think the person's point was when you queue with friends, there is a chance you'll tunnel vision on them either out of loyalty because they're your friend or because you trust their skills more than a random person, if that makes sense. and it can be hard to unlearn that

    I'm definitely noticing the mercy in the video isn't thinking about why she's GAing, and some of her GA's have no purpose. and in higher ranks she would POSSIBLY get punished for not having GA off cool down, because of a "useless" GA

    • @sethescope
      @sethescope Рік тому +1

      yeah, this really shows how Mercy - like many heroes obvs - has to be centered on intention. there has to be a reason for everything you do. making a bad decision is miles and miles better than not making a decision at all and just going on auto pilot. bad decisions happen to everyone, and at least you're thinking. if you misjudge something, that's fine because you can learn from it and then not make that mistake in the future. but if you're just doing something to do something, then you're not making good plays or bad plays, it's just random

      for REAL. it's one thing to ask for feedback and critiques. it's another thing entirely to agree for your vod to be published on such a big channel for your mistakes to be used to teach others. takes hella courage and shows a real commitment to improving.
      there are channels who will show bronze gameplay but just to have fun with it (and not always in a mean way, emongg does a very wholesome spectating bronze series), and that's fine but it's not as scary because you know your mistakes won't be "nitpicked"
      it of course helps that Niandra has always been kind and encouraging and compassionate, but it's still a risk!

    Is there an auto super jump setting I’ve missed 😂. Using GA to jump cover to cover is almost aways better than super jump, which you address. I think OW would benefit massively from proper on-boarding for each hero, explaining movement, what each role does, basic tech, and putting it into practice in a small mission. That would also require the devs knowing how to play their own game though 🤦‍♂️

    • @PIKIWII
      @PIKIWII Рік тому +2

      In my opinion you can't compare bronze elo to plat elo. Bronze is such another world. I'm high Master Mercy, got deranked gold1 on 2nd season with their stupid comp. Until I reach back Master I had to heal so much more than I though cause my main sup couldn't keep up. If I stopped healing and had faith in my second sup it was lost. Most of game I was ending with 60% heal done and 40% damage boost, sometime even less boost. In Master it's better but sometime I still have second sup that don't give me the possibility to do my job correctly and it's frustrating af. Moreover when it's an Ana.

    • @xunqiew
      @xunqiew Рік тому

      @@PIKIWII Sure, you can't compare the 2 elos. But i'm a dia support main that plays a lot of mercy; My stats are usually 70/30 (dmg boost/heal) even when comps aren't in my favor, i still win games by not healbotting and i'm gonna rank up soon. There's no excuse to not dmg boost even if ur co-support isn't the best ( Unless you have a dps moira that refuses to heal). I hate when i have to play ana/kiriko and when i check my co-Mercy stats shes at 90% heal beam usage by healbotting the tank while being dia, so if mercy's in masters are like this i'll just quit the game fr. Theres a diference between healing when necessary and refusing to use dmg boost, and sadly many mercys in this elo fall under this category, that was my point btw.

    • @PIKIWII
      @PIKIWII Рік тому +1

      @@xunqiew I understand better your point yea, sadly it's the case in every elo. When a GM tell you many gm mercys don't damage boost at all you're like "how the fuck they gm ?". Also there is many factor that can explain how you win games that's not in your favor, but it's another point.
      I dunno maybe i was just extremely unkucky with the main sups I got until reaching master again. Maybe they were just dpsing intead of healing like you suggested. Never had more than 70 heal usage tho (and it's already way to much but luckily was rare) so 90.... I understand your feeling. It's better in Master you'll see. (well not always ofc)

    • @xunqiew
      @xunqiew Рік тому

      @@PIKIWII Yeah, the thing about my mercy gameplay is that i get extremely bored if i have to healbot so i try to dmg boost as much as i can ( Always tracking my teams ults and act like a little nano so i can help them. ) the 30% dmg boost can actually save way more team fights than healing in certain scenarios, not all but most of them. And honestly if we don't have enough healing, it's always better to switch to a main healer and help your team rather than healbotting with mercy since u won't get a lot of value given they reverted the valkyrie changes back to what it was before, it's basically useless if you're not gonna dmg boost. But thank you for your insight, and let's be real many gm and masters mercy's are usually very boosted since they even can't utilize the chars kit properly. I remember when i had a dia1 instalock mercy on my team that was hardpocketing the tank and when i told her to dmg boost our dps that were popping off she told me that she "wanted to keep the team alive" like bro... play other char for that no?

    • @PIKIWII
      @PIKIWII Рік тому +1

      Boosted ones are the reason people love to say we're getting boosted when we duo. 😑
      Mercys hard pocketing tanks don't understand an important thing that is, they restrain the main sup with charging their ult correctly. A good ana can have a nano each fight if the mercy don't stole all the charge from her. Or if mercy have her ult, let the Ana do most of the heal so she can charge her ult. Sadly, like we said, many mercys don't know how to play her correctly and they insta pick her. I hate that so much. I became otp mercy in ranked for this reason (and many other) but I'm trying to improve my Ana and learn Zen. Zen can have a big impact so I want to know how to play him correctly to can improve on him later.
      Btw it's not by hardpocketing the tank she'll had value to the team... Her gamesens was not onpoint...🤦‍♀
      On my side, it was a diamsomething that instapicked her and was rezzing in the middle of enemies (so dying and being in cd for nothing) or her rezzing a tracer (that can come back fast from spawn so an useless rez most of the time) when we were only 2 left (I was sup too) and I was in huge need of heal. Team was almost there so if she kept me alive like I was keeping her alive, it would have saved the game, but no, we lost the point and the game thank to her🙃

    Mercy is a fictional player character developed by Blizzard Entertainment for their Overwatch franchise. She was introduced at launch in their 2016 first-person hero shooter video game of the same name and again appeared in its 2022 sequel, Overwatch 2. Mercy has also featured in its related animated and literary media. Lucie Pohl voices Mercy in English-language Overwatch media.
    Within the Overwatch narrative, "Mercy" is the callsign of Swiss doctor Angela Ziegler, who provided key medical support for the original Overwatch group. In-game, she is a Support class character who can heal and buff teammates and resurrect fallen teammates.
    The character is one of the more popular in the game, being noted by Blizzard to be the most played support character during the game's beta. However, her resurrect ability has been criticized in competitive and professional play levels, given the swing in momentum the ability creates. Her gameplay mechanics have undergone various reworks and patches in an attempt by Blizzard to make her a more well-rounded playable hero.

      which is why, as someone who isn't like you and isn't as good, the shorter cool down is so important because I'm making fewer unforced errors lol the cool down makes me seem like a better mercy 😅

    I feel like maybe this Mercy has some kind of muscle memory ingrained to SJ right after GA maybe? Watching all these instant SJs made me think that. (As if they are trying to Mercy's OW1 SJ method.) It's interesting how overusing Mercy's mobility ends up making this player less effectively mobile.
    Also I love these videos. Even though I'm Masters, a lot of the plays I do/don't do are a bit second-nature, so hearing things broken down is still interesting food for thought. Plus Bronze is simply a fascinating world. Seems so chill.

      hello friend 💖 I agree with you, and I LOVE your observation that overusing mercy mobility can end up making you less mobile overall and less mobile when you need to be. it's one of those things that I definitely already know, I'm not in masters but I've played a lot of mercy and I have a lot of mercy knowledge in my brain, but having it said this way makes it even easier to actually implement. I know I definitely struggle thinking beyond the immediate moment when I'm playing overwatch, it can be a really overwhelming game, and sometimes you just spam an ability because it feels like it helps in the moment and I don't always have the discipline and in the moment awareness to remember or value the fact that I might need that ability more at a later point.
      so thank you for commenting this because it gave me a more specific way to think about my own gameplay! I'm so rusty, due to my brain doing migraines on cool down, for me playing overwatch a lot means more than 3 games on more than one day in a week, so anything that makes it easier for me to play better when I'm able to play is really appreciated 💖 obviously there's no substitute for the improvement that comes with consistent experience, but hey, every little bit helps and it helps me have more fun, so thank you :)

      also, I feel the same way about bronze vods. a lot of the mistakes they make the most are mistakes re: the fundamentals of Mercy. because we have a lot of the basics down - and you have them down more than me, ofc - we don't think about them. but bringing it back to basics is always helpful, even if all it does for one specific person is reiterate what they already know. there's always value in being reminded of the basics because it makes doing the more advanced stuff easier and less complicated because the advanced stuff is built on the basics and it's the natural next step once you've got the basics. so yeah, I think every single player can learn from everyone else and the vods of everyone else, no matter the rank!
      btw you should post overwatch videos! I would watch them all the time and spam your comments bc I stan

    I spam superjump only when i know that i can afford it. I deranked from diamond 5 to platinum 3 so i changed my SJ usage to match the skill level of my enemies.
    Whenever i see that the enemies don't have hitscans or any real threats to me (for ex: they got pharah-junkrat), i like to spam SJ to stay in the air (but mostly behind cover).
    I've started doing this since season 4 started because of the super jump glitch aswell. Basically, if you press crouch and space at the same time while guardian angeling, you don't get the extra cooldown and only get a normal 1.5s cooldown. I find this safer than getting a 3 second cooldown from slingshotting, especially when nobody is punishing me for staying in the air.

    • @sethescope
      @sethescope Рік тому

      what makes this hard is a lot of the time, GAing all over the place can be the right move! but like so much about playing mercy, it really depends on the situation. I think playing it safe and minimizing the amount of time you're in active view of the enemy is going to be the best way to at least start every match. I think the longer GA cool down just was a big reminder to all of us that we really need to stop relying on just GA to get us or keep us out of trouble lol at least that's what I noticed for myself. I don't play enough to benefit from the time it would take to learn all the fancy techs like canceling GA super early (I know not super fancy but still takes time and intentional effort) so the better approach for me personally was just not to expect it to be there to help me in the same way I used to (and can again now).
      tbh, something I notice about myself is I'm generally overcomplicating things too much. any chance to simplify my gameplay and my thinking is typically good for me.

    Dark seems like a player with a lot of potential. He may not be aware that Mercy heals/dmg boosts multiple allies at once during valk (with the right positioning). It's super difficult to get allies to take advantage of this at mid and lower ranks. Dark might try using voice to shot call a bit once he gets more comfortable with how to maximize beam use during his ultimate. Another tip that might help: using cover during valk is typically much more beneficial than flying around the map.

    • @sethescope
      @sethescope Рік тому +3

      your comment made me laugh because it reminded me of something ml7 once said, that basically as Mercy you have to help your teammates even when they don't want to be helped. THEY don't know how to or aren't going to take advantage of mercy's multiple beams in Valkyrie, so you have to position the main beam so they benefit anyway lmao
      honestly I feel like that's unironically such a good way to think about playing support, especially mercy. you can't wait for or expect your team to capitalize on what you can do. you have to capitalize on what your team is doing lol
      by this, I mean "don't just damage boost your (insert s tier damage boost target here) and wait for them to do something. instead, damage boost the best teammate based on who's actually doing something at that specific moment"
      maybe this is obvious but thinking about it like this has really helped me. it helps me be more intentional because I'm not just holding down damage boost and waiting for something to happen. it lets me feel really impactful because I'm choosing to contribute value instead of waiting for someone to do something, if that makes sense. maybe this isn't a helpful frame of mind for everyone, but I offer it anyway because I just love talking about my ding dang favorite hero in this here video game!

      basically, I think it's better not to do things until you're ready to do them intentionally. sometimes you'll still make mistakes and do them at a bad time, but if you intentionally do it and it ends up being at the wrong time, you can learn from that. if you're just doing it to do it, then you can't really learn from it because it's just random. I hope that made sense, even if you disagree which is okay.

    Absolutely, i’ve reached diamond with Mercy and I find myself against some pretty cracked DPS that track every inch of my movement in the air. Even at this level, I’m starting to move around and super jump less than before. Usually just to reach a better position or to escape an ult. A solid corner covers me much more than being in the air 30 meters above everyone

    I am curious how to submit these. I'm stuck in silver and I was wondering if there was a way you could look at my vod and see what my issue is. I try to use cover, I try to use ga for positioning myself, I spin a lot looking for needed assistance. The only thing I can think of is I'm not getting a lot of damage boost and I often get left healing. I'm hoping I could get your opinion.

    Hello Niandra, I didn't know how to reach you, so I just came to the latest video you uploaded. I'm a D2 Mercy player from Brazil, I've beeing doing a better usage of Mercy's blue beam these days, but I've been stuck in that thought of prioritizing it's porcentage over its actually damage, so I've been trying to balance my gameplay to make the most value of blue beam, but also keep my team alive. I played this game just some minutes ago, in the open queue plat 2 where my beam usage was very close to 50/50 but I boosted 4497 damage. So, considering that was a game 17 minutes long, did you think those are good numbers, or maybe I could've make more of that take with another hero, such as zenny wich also was a great pick to their comp.

    They should get more used to using cover more especially with the new mercy changes, also knowing who’s gonna focus you and if your even being focused during the match. I think another good thing to practice is beam flicking with each hero. Sigma is a very easy hero to practice beam flicking. Just more experience and watching other mercy’s play is the best thing to get better. Really good game overall though.

    Oh okay I get it now. I'm trying out Mercy for the 1st time and I keep superjumping alot and my postioning and movement feels really sloppy. So should I just be using normal GA or GA +A boost more? And I think I'm supposed to only use super jump to get to high places and not stay in the air. Okay I get it now. Also I want to look at other teammates while I'm healing/boosting someone but I always get the feeling that I'm not healing/boosting the current player the moment I look away. Anyways I hope this is what I need to improve myself.

    This VOD is the perfect example to the question: can a Mercy carry a game at lower ranks? The answer is NO IF they are using the typical support style of low risk and low aggression. This Mercy is clearly just existing and her team is carrying her (or most of her opponents are just very terrible at the game). I could be Mercy on the other team and dramatically outplay this vod Mercy and my team would still lose and it wouldn't be close.

    From what I’ve seen, with the OW2 changes to Mercy mechanics, gameplay with lots of superjumps and almost no horizontal slingshots seems to be a hallmark of inexperience on the hero. The jump doesn’t require as much thought to execute, so I think it’s easier to spam and then gets used out of habit at times when the slingshot was really needed.

    I feel as though dark was trying to stay in the air. When i started learning mercy i learnt most of my mercy "skill" (i have none) from watching vods and mercy gameplay. Most of the time you'd see people stay in the air for A WHILE which could be good but only if you know what you are doing. Because of that i was trying to stay in the air as much as i could and i died way too many times. It was only later that i realized that there has to be a reason for a GA, not all the time but without having a good enough reason it's a bit of a cooldown waste. After i realized that i indirectly got better at mercy because i died less frequently and all my movement actually helped me, i learnt that i can walk on mercy(crazy right) and i just got better overall.

    One of my friends, who usually picks Mercy when needed as we play together, was surprised by my settings (hold ga, not toggle). And I explained to her that "Oh, it's to have more control over the distance, canceling ga with taps is wonky" and her reply was "Why would you cancel, I just superjump/slingshot." And I was so shocked by that! I guess it's the playstyle difference, because she plays pretty well and is more team-focused than me and in general we have good synergy, and my Mercy is rusty af, but it was so weird to hear that from her, I never noticed, so it wasn't even a problem, but I didn't expect that.

    • @sethescope
      @sethescope Рік тому +1

      I think there's always value in learning someone does something differently! like you said, it can just be a different play style, and you can learn from that (either by trying it and adopting it or knowing it won't work for you because of X reason). it's always good to think about things! even if you still decide your settings work the best for you, that's good because you KNOW they're working for you instead of them just being what you've always used, you know?
      if they're enjoying their settings and you're enjoying yours, then that's a W to me :)

  • @softtacos1
    @softtacos1 Рік тому

    im a pretty average mercy imo but this does look like a lot of sj usage even for me lol. usually i use a lot more slingshots to give myself more horizontal mobility and reach teammates and souls easier and use sj mostly as a tool to see the team and escape since it's so easy for you to just get shot down while descending. i just felt like the sj usage definitely wouldve been punished if they had not been in bronze.
    but i understand. a lot of mercy mains on youtube and for vod reviews and coaching etc really emphasize the use of mercy's mobility (eg super jump) to reach teammates and do your job/maximize your kit.
    but what do i know i main genji :D (i play a lot of support too)

    • @sethescope
      @sethescope Рік тому

      hey, learning about other heroes is always good, regardless of who you main. it's good to learn details of other heroes even if you will never touch the hero because then you know more about how to play with and against them :)
      I think the issue with too much SJ and how many people talk about mobility is that they don't focus on the nuance and how situationally specific mercy gameplay is. sometimes doing one thing is the right play in Game A, but it's the wrong play in Game B. I kind of sigh and roll my eyes when people give blanket advice because that's generally not helpful when playing Mercy.
      mercy is definitely a hero where ability spam is just punishing yourself. you CAN super jump, but there are so many reasons and situations where you absolutely shouldn't do it, and imo, helping people improve with mercy is about helping them develop good judgment. the buttons are easy, but knowing how and when to push them is hard, you know?
      so basically, I wish people would stop saying "do X as Mercy" (damage boost the DPS, super jump, etc) because it's a lot more complicated than that

    • @Fluffybunniii
      @Fluffybunniii Рік тому

      Check if your team is in critical or taking a lot of damage, rezzing when they're taking a lot of damage is a good indicator that you shouldn't. However, if your team is doing well against the enemy team and the rez is safe to go for (meaning no enemy will randomly pop up on you to cancel rez) then go for it. A lot of going for a rez is pure judgment call, pay attention to whether or not the enemy team have used their abilities that can cancel your rez. Have they ulted yet? Has the ana used her sleep yet? Things like that.
      Even in Valk you could be pretty vulnerable while rezzing, so you have to think of the enemy team's abilities and if your team needs healing more than an extra teammate.

    Learning mercy isn’t the hard part it’s dealing with terrible people who thinks calling you slurs is okay, I had an ana and her duo call me terrible things all cause I wasn’t dmg boosting much but it’s hard to dmg boost when you’re other support has 1k heals three minutes into the match…
