The same people (read west) are standing behind this in Ukraine. The only difference is that in Ukrain thay are using the war as opportunity to try to put hated on Russian Orthodox Church. This has been happening for a long time. Moscow Patriarchate Orthodox Churches has been suppressed by the Ukrainian government for years. They even created a new church that is one-sided (without council) & isn't canonical.
A good friend of mine had his priest detained for days by the police just because he was a priest in Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine.
Patriarch Bartholomew approved,so it's a legal decision,but corrupt Patriarch Kiril doesn't want to obey Patriarch Bartholomew.
The Moscow Patriarchate is who's done the suppressing. They have endorsed the invasion and some clergy have even actively aided the invaders. It is past time to finally eliminate that disease from Ukraine.
The Eastern Orthodox religion that is practiced in this Lavra has been the main religion in Russian Empire for over 1000 years. Historically, the "head office" was in Moscow. The current Ukrainian division does not support war, does not pay dues to Moscow, they are just affiliated historically. And in 2018, Ukrainian government created a new Church and were pressuring all believers of the original 1000-year old religion move to the new stream. It is just so ridiculous.

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church as a legal entity is actually older than Independent Ukraine! Of course the history of Rus-Modern day Russia and Ukraine began in Kiev with prince Vladimir. Terrible shame. I can see the one argument because they won’t denounce the Patriarch of Moscow, but refusing to denounce a Patriarch is not the same as supporting the Kremlin’s decisions. I also recall one of my Orthodox friends telling me that denouncing a Patriarch simply is not the done thing, especially given that the church does recognise the Pope as patriarch of Rome, but says he is in abuse of his power, or something along those lines.

@@HopeLaFleur1975 Ukrainian government expired an unlimited lease on all the buildings in the Lavra and told over 200 monks to leave within 2 weeks, clergy to leave. The main priest of this Orthodox church Pavel gave a speech that like they are against the war, they never were pro-Russia, they were supporting Zelensky to win the election (asking religious people in the country to vote for him), and instead he is kicking them out of the grounds of their home, the grounds of the original religion on Ukraine? The monastery and churches they restored on their own church money, with help of free work of the monks there. So the priest said like "God won't forgive you", to Zelensky, and then said a phrase from the Bible like "our tears won't fall on the ground, but on your heads". That was enough for the government to arrest that old priest and put him under the house arrest and prohibit him to speaking to parishioners. Very sad story.

There are multiple elements which contributes to this tragedy: the political involvement of US politicians in Ukrainian religious matters through the Ecumenical Patriarchy, the war started by Putin against Ukraine and the support of Patriarch Kiril of this war.
