I put this open primary on my '95 Fatboy along with an Ultima 6 speed transmission with kicker kit .. Love this set up. Installed easy and works perfect. The only issue I had was the clutch throw out push rod. I had to install a longer rod to make the clutch fully disengage ... I also went with the heaviest clutch springs, I think 98 pounds...
Whats up with that West Coast Chopper CFL on the shelf up top? Still building it?
Would be a good opportunity to change all the transmission oil seals (and shifter seal) since they’ve been in there at least a quarter of a century - that would really suck if they started leaking just after you buttoned everything up.
excelent video thx
This is so helpful! I need replace my stator/rotor and wasn't sure how to get the clutch basket off. Now I see the entire process of it going on, i can easily reverse engineer the process. Curious if you can point me in the direction of the instructions with torque specs you were using?
I am trying to get my old 3” BDL off. Got all the bolts out but doesn’t seem to want to budge. How’d you get it off?
the plastic primary tool, did you have to modify. i have similar stepped tool and wont fit
Many thanks for the video! I have a problem that my clutch isn't releasing at all so I have to disassemble the clutch to see what's wrong. Any idea of what it could be? Johnny from Sweden
Hi Johhny, thanks for watching! We'll need a couple more details to assess the issue, send an email to info@throttleaddiction.com with a detailed description and some photos and we can try to help you out
Have you tried a longer clutch throw out push rod? I had to do that on my '95 Fatboy to make the clutch disengage fully...
I have a 2000 ultra jackhammer dry primary clutch and I cannot get the jack shaft to turn over my engine could you tell me what I need to do? Really enjoyed your video definitely am going to be watching many more thanks God bless
Hi Joey, thanks for watching! We'll need a couple more details to assess the issue, send an email to info@throttleaddiction.com with a detailed description and some photos and we can try to help you out
How bought starting from the start taking the stock bike apart and installing the belt drive
Thanks bud. I like the eazy co approach of like and subscribe lol. What’s you’re thoughts on the overall quality and performance of it?
havn't fired it up yet, but all in all quality and fitment looks good, install was a breeze.
@@ThrottleAddictionCo thank you 👍
Any suggestions on what oil tank to run on this setup with the electric start? Looking to be able to clear everything with a starter in there.
www.throttleaddiction.com/custom-use-round-oil-tank-with-battery-tray-raw-side-fill/ here's what we're running on that bike and that's worked for us
The BDL instructions said to use red loc tight on the clutch hub splines. Does the ultima kit not have anything about it in the instructions ?
Personal preference whether or not to use red loc tight with the Ultima Kit
The open permit change would be a 04 Softail
Cool video but don't you have to put red loctite on the cluch hub ??
Can you do the Open primary on the Softail frame or does it have to be on hardtail and can you convert it to chain without changing the frame😊😊
Yes you can install this open primary on a 2004 Softail frame, and yes you should be able to do a chain conversion as well without changing the frame
Can different brand clutch plates be installed in an ultima 2” primary ?
Something of better quality. What’s recommended as best ?
The plates that come in the kit are made in the USA Alto high performance clutch plates so they're pretty good already. We don't know of another band making better plates for the 2" inch kit. If they exist, there should be no problem running plates from a different brand.
Does The primary bearing race have to be removed from the main shaft to use the BDL inner primary and bekt
Poker, YES SIR YOU WOULD, if you had a stock primary CHAIN set up. This bike apparently already had a belt drive, and you can see the sealed bearing in the inner primary. So unless this bike originally came from another planet, the inner race was once removed. No if and or butt.
T.S. RACING
Yea I just got around to doing it and did pull the race. My engine pully was machined bad and I had to reset size the pully to get the insert in. And after that the clutch hub gets really wobbly when you pull in the clutch. Guess I’m gonna do every part of this three times too fix there little inconvenient mistakes.
Does it have to be a kickstand application?
www.throttleaddiction.com/adjustable-kickstand-stop-89-99-softail/ you can use this to keep the kickstand away from the belt
What size clutch push rod did you use
We don't know for sure, the bike we're working on in that video came with a 3" open primary and we just reused the push rod that came on that primary
What was the copy of the tool you bought of Amazon? I couldn’t hear it clearly.
"Primary Locking Tool" should get you there. Not sure if there's a more official name. Here's a link to one on Amazon: www.amazon.com/CICMOD-Primary-Locking-Transmissions-Davidson/dp/B075S4YLGR/ref=asc_df_B075S4YLGR/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312195936700&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8332420765941501224&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9019301&hvtargid=pla-762449384592&th=1
Thank you!
What’s the torque spec on that front pulley? You said the clutch nut torque but not the front pulley.
It depends on the bike you're putting it on, you'll have to consult your Chilton manual for your specific spec
i don't know if it is just me, but this guy sounds just like Maynard from Tool... i was waiting for him to go "christopher walken"
Will this primary work on my 98 dyna wide glide
This specific primary will not, it's meant for Softails and custom use. However we do sell the 2" open primary Ultima makes for 90-06 Dyna's, it's just the polished finish instead: www.throttleaddiction.com/ultima-2-open-primary-belt-drive-harley-big-twin-evolution-twin-cam-1990-2006-dyna-polished-finish/
you have an kit for an evo softail from 92( 4 gear )...?
Yes we do! The kit in the video is compatible with a 92' Evo Softail. We expect to get this kit back in stock on ThrottleAddiction.com on Friday. You can check back in then or early next week. We also have an email alert system for when products are back in stock. If you follow the product link in this video's description you can sign up for alerts there and get a message as soon as it's available to purchase. Thanks for watching!
@@ThrottleAddictionCo ok I will do this tommorow thx for the answer
I think I have the evo 1 engine
easy compony !!!
Damn. I can't believe you went so small as a 2" that's crazy! 3" or bigger
your correct why would you take a 3" off and put a lesser 2" on . i have 110 stage 4 and i run the top fuel BDL with 3 3/8 belt drive . i guess the bike he is working on does need a heavy belt size because the motor has less power ...lol but ASM built my motor ,it would burn that tire off in one burn ..he may be correct with a bike that small he just don't need a wide tire or oversize belt ..lol i see it all the time , crazy $$$ shop and lack of skills ,,,....
Those extra holes on the back plate need to be addressed other than that, very nice
How many teeth is that belt?
It's a 2" Goodyear belt and it's included with this kit
You don’t EVER lock tight especially red the primary backing plate this guys knows NOTHING about building bikes. He also didn’t mention after you tighten the backing plate down you need to shim your motor and trans BEFORE locking down the trans and motor. People like this should not make builder videos 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
