    You’re a Legend bro! I’ve got a 99 hd 883 and wish you could work your magic on her. Thank you doing an old Harley!

      For sure, I appreciate it. There's going to be a lot more Harley content on this channel this year - Version 2.0 of the Buell "PSiclone" is up next, the bike is a wheelie machine now. You'll get a kick out of it. Cheers!

    My second Motorcycle was a 1974 Ironhead Sportster! I loved her and we had 8 Years of fun together ❤❤

    Man I’ve been wrenching for more years than I care to admit and I still learned something today from you. I liked the brake cylinder in the ultra sonic cleaner, never seen that before.

      Thanks! It was pretty badly clogged, I was surprised it worked tbh.

    '70s vintage Ironhead, the bike that turned me off of Harley-Davidson for the rest of my life. I walked into a dealership when I was maybe 17 or 18. I was looking closely at a Sportster. The sales guy made be feel less that welcome but the guy at the Honda store talked bikes with me. I guess that's why over half or the 60 or so bikes I have owned have been Hondas. With the exception of my Buell M2 Cyclone not one Harley. (Oh. . . and Harley will not admit to having anything to do with Buell.) That was a very fun video! There are lots of abandons Ironheads out there.

    Skip skip boom boom 💥 I've had best luck with points on the old irons

      This whole ordeal made me understand why a lot of old timers throw electronic ignitions in the garbage. Would've turned right over with clean, adjusted points.

      @@DoctorMotorcycle lot of guys back in the day would have a bad coil and just throw whatever on it ,and wrong ohms melts down the pick up ignition coil, when I had my 79 bastard it was electronic ign. Swapped right over to blue streak points for a 66 nova 2 from auto zone

    Great job. I flipped so many of those Ironhead sportsters. I used to bring a spray bottle of Awesome, soak em down while they were tied down in the back of my pick up. I would blast them off at the car wash on the way home. 😅 Smitty in Vegas

    You must have known the motor wasn't locked, cause you started by washing, then opened up a fresh looking 1:16 carburetor. I'm still doing the "back and forth" with a breaker bar on the crankshaft nut first thing myself. I've had guys bring me (just purchased) bikes needing "just a battery", that had been locked up for years!

    • @DoctorMotorcycle
      @DoctorMotorcycle  9 місяців тому

      Yeah I always have a good Carb laying around to use for occasions like this. I don't like working on dirty stuff, hence me washing it first. Even if a motor is locked, you can usually un-stick it with Marvel Mystery Oil and application of heat. Funny you mention the "just needs a battery" thing, I was just talking about this the other day. Usually it's a small list of things to get roadworthy, lol. -Doc

      @gregwillis7767 9 місяців тому +1

      @@DoctorMotorcycle I'm happy to hear that the Mystery Oil and Heat usually works, cause I've had to pull engines, pry up cylinders enough to cut the connecting rod, then beat the piston out with a 2x and sledge! Of course, this was in a "dirt floor shop" and I was a child, but they hired me full time cause I "didn't have a home". When in doubt, replace the oil pump - or just replace it anyway was a good practice..

      Yeah EVO sportster are mostly what I work on these days, that's why I had a complete ignition laying around including the timing cup. And yeah, I've head the bikes w/Generators can be a pain. It's 40+ years old, it's the type of stuff you expect. Cheers!

    1974 was the last year for right side shift and 1978 was the last year of the classic style Ironhead Sportster chassis. After that Harley-Davidson absolutely completely lost their fricken’ minds and ever since then built the ugliest motorcycles known to man. Yank the motor, cut the neck off the frame and build something that LOOKS LIKE A MOTORCYCLE!!!!

      The crazy thing is it looks like the whole motor was gone through - The valves are brand new, it has squeaky clean .020" over pistons, cross hatching that looks like it was just honed and then.....someone couldn't get it to start and gave up.
