As a disabled person, your videos remind me of things I miss being able to do. They reconnect me with nature and the amazing things out in the world. Thank you so much for making these videos
This exactly! I'm also disabled and I totally agree. I'd love to go mountainbiking but I know I can't even feasibly try (severe visual impairment + mobility issues make it a very bad idea for me to try, probably bad for anyone else on and near the trail too). There are lots of other things like skiing that I have the same problem with. I know I shouldn't try these things logically, but I still can't get it out of my head. At least watching these videos I can get sort of an idea of what it's like to do these things and that's such a big help. Even though I still want to go mountainbiking and skiing and all sorts of other stuff like that.
@@parker5323 I haven't, I didn't know they were available. I live in the Netherlands, which is mostly flat, so I'd have to go abroad to go skiing or mountainbiking in nature in any case, which complicates things. Do you know what types of adaptive programs are available and where?
Your honesty is refreshing and makes you highly relatable. I think we would all like a Yuka to test things for us but there is only one Yuka and she's yours. Love your work.
Nice work Eric. That step up is absolutely massive. It's one of those features that videos really does it huge disservice, but it's probably one of the best bike park jumpsI've ever hit.
I truly appreciate this video. It is always a struggle with me to believe my skill set is good enough for some things I’m afraid of. It’s refreshing to watch someone I consider and absolute shredder to still go through the same emotions I do on my rides. Thanks for keeping it real. And hey, congrats on really pulling it together and trusting in yourself.
Everyone does its crazy weather they are a pro or a first timer its pretty funny. Mental strength is key look at something but not too long seems like when you do that fear starts to take over and your more likely not to try it. Its nice when you can have someone to tow ya in that alone has helped me progress this year way more than i could have imagined.
Good for you Eric! I like that you're not a great big Alpha Male that thrives on adrenaline and arrogance. You're an inspiration for the rest of us normal folk that shows tenacity gets the job done.
I can only imagine how huge these trail must be without the GoPro effect. You and Yuka are more skillful than I will ever be, and trails like Dirt Merchant can still make you pause. I realize how completely overwhelmed I'd be, lol. Thank God for green trails, lol. Signed, a complete novice, in awe.
Jordan Boostmaster talks to him in his video (Riding crazy lines and fully sending it, @ 2:30) He says its a 20" hardtail with a front fork that was made for the bike. Basically a BMX bike he says.
I have to say, I've been binging your content and I'm not even a mountain biker. I've never been interested in it so there's something else keeping me glued to your channel. IT'S THE STORY TELLING! Our content couldn't be more different (I make movie props) but I've learned and been inspired by so much in your videos. STORY. You can make anyone watch anything if you tell them a story and you're kind of amazing at it. Thank you!
One of the best videos you've posted and I have watched Eric. Mad admiration to your editing skills plus, your story telling rythm. The music added was just on point. First time leaving a comment doesn't mean this is the only video I enjoyed. Huge respect, keep it up and stay safe mister.
Coming back to mtb after 15 years after the accident was scary. I was out of shape and will to ride even basic city trails… got myself an ebike to be “out” more and started using less and less of the support. Once I was comfortably doing 40-50km on a rather heavy bike I got myself an enduro bike (giant reign sx) and started riding trails near me - not even close to what you have there! But after a month I signed up for an enduro race and despite being last (I wasn’t last on any of the sections but overall time combined I was last) I was happy as I managed to prep for it within 2 months and finished the entire thing within the time constraints I was given :) 45km and 1700m elevation gain in 5.5h :D beforehand I was watching a ton of videos on UA-cam, including yours! All of them helped me be in a proper mindset and understand that it’s okay if even trying a feature require a mindset and some good preparation. We’re no longer 15-20 yo where you “just go”. Thanks to your videos (and many others!) I learned to find a best approach to learning new features. Today I was helping someone else clear two new jumps :) it felt good to be on the other side of the tow ;D
More than any other videos yours motivate me to want to take on scarier features, because you address the process and show the vulnerability we all have.
A few things I really like about your videos is that they're not just all the highlighted clips, you talk about real life problems you face when riding and you're not afraid to say things like I wasn't feeling to good about myself and mental blocks. you then go on to show us how you move on, get your head in check, come back then and over come it. we go through this to so we can relate to it a lot, we learn from it and it helps us to progress so I just wanted to say thank you and great work over coming your fear, absolutely great work :)
Mountain biking is such an odd sport. Watching someone else “fail” unlocks success. But, anyone who mountain bikes understands these mental battles. Nice job breaking through
I have to say Eric watching your progression on jumps is awesome. I like that you're honest about your fears. And eventually you do it. I also like your trick that you do when warming up to the jump that you talked about a few videos back. Doing run ups to get the adrenaline going. I use that now. Here's to you buddy. I'm right there with you all the way🤙
it's unbelievable for a guy that cautious and bit scared of consequences how many injuries you've got by the time. cheers and keep it coming! wish I had that patience in my riding...
Hey, Eric, I stumbled across this channel almost a year ago now and as someone who works overnight, I don't have a lot of free time to go out mountainbiking or to find decent places open late enough for me - I need my sleep as I do hard labor. These videos give me comfort when the house is too quiet at 3am and also allows me to get in touch with "the real world" sometimes. Thank you for creating, and I hope you can grow and develop your skills more ....without hurting yourself, hopefully
Lovely video Eric, love seeing you progress and beat that mental game, especially on that huge step up! Next year you'll clean that step up onto the container easily! Whenever i don't do jumps for a while i deal with the mental game too but after some riding it always gets better! And damn, someday i want to ride whistler too, just got to practice for another 10 years and then travel half the globe haha.
The way you tell a story, overcome your fears and push through all the challenges is amazing. Would have loved to see you hit that container step up, guess we'll have to wait.

It may sound a bit intellectual, but having tried out some of this stuff, it is hugely powerful. Great job out there i hope someday i can take a trip here. I can relate on some of these types of features this past weekend i was able to clear the 1st 8 features on fort hill at thunder mountain. Lots of hiking and a good friend to tow me in each time and by my 4 time down the trail i was able to make the dirt to dirt jump which is around 35’ once i got it we hiked back up and hit it again and i was able to continue down the trail and tackle more. You should have a look at this on on my most recent short vid 🤘keep up the great vids man🤘
@bcpov, out of simple curiosity, are pro lines designed so that track speed alone will get you through most of it. Guess part of the go pro effect is that I'm wonder how hard you work between features.
Only been watching your videos a short while after a friend's told me to check them out and what I've seen so far I think you really doubt your skill if I'm honest, obviously there is risk hitting big jumps but you got it man and watching videos from a few years back to recent ones can see the progression, keep up the good work Love from the UK 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
I think you both are amazing. If you ever come to the lake district I’ll pick up some good tips from you. Stay happy and in your comfort zone. Well done Ross Cumbria England
Step-ups: if you don't quite make it/almost make it/case the top, you are at or near the apex of your jump arc and at the slowest speed. In other words, you have bled off most of your upward and forward momentum and you haven't yet entered your downward gravitational reacceleration. It is actually one of the safest screwups. Next time you 'just do make it', by landing right on the lip, take note how soft and easy you smooth right over. Then notice how you don't start going fast again until you are well into the downhill of the landing. I've hit step-ups on a dirt bike before where I could hit the brakes on the peak and stop right on the top - even though I had to roll in like madcap to make it. This is why you saw all of those other riders case it time after time and nothing happened. Also consider, with a tabletop, if you land at the lip your suspension compresses and then decompresses just at the worst possible time - right off the landing lip into nowhere. With the step-up under the same scenario, you still have some 'earth' left to go 'up' to on that decompression, and your angle of decompression is more negative and thus even or back rather that pitching you forward. Those darn mind-blocks are just brutal though. Been there plenty.
Mental blocks are no fun. I injured my self quite badly skating in the 90's. I fractured my spine, bad enough that I had to be immobilised while it healed rather than risk a full break. I still haven't been able to put my skates on since then. I get terrified just looking at them. Good on you for pushing through it.
awesome :) you have convinced me that i need to gain the skill to hit dirt merchant before i travel thousands of miles to visit whistler, lol. it would be a shame to go all that way and have to leave that trail behind. have you ridden fort hill at thunder mountain? (charlemont, MA, usa) i'm wondering how similar the difficulty is between the two pro jump lines.
i always say in motocross and freestyle skiing you get 2 or 3 roll ups at max after that if you dont hit it your done. once your scared or nervous thats when you make mistakes and freeze. when your confident you react and make corrections.
Amazing video. FIrst time on your channel. I like the bike park, you captured it perfectly! Also, loving the honest and vulnerable take. No macho nonsense here!

With the step-up under the same scenario, you still have some 'earth' left to go 'up' to on that decompression, and your angle of decompression is more negative and thus even or back rather that pitching you forward.
Those darn mind-blocks are just brutal though. Been there plenty.
Nice ride 😊👍🏻👍🏻
Somehow back in Whistler now lol
Mental blocks are no fun. I injured my self quite badly skating in the 90's. I fractured my spine, bad enough that I had to be immobilised while it healed rather than risk a full break. I still haven't been able to put my skates on since then. I get terrified just looking at them.
Good on you for pushing through it.
@BCpov I have the exact same headspace as you about big features, got any tips?
awesome :) you have convinced me that i need to gain the skill to hit dirt merchant before i travel thousands of miles to visit whistler, lol. it would be a shame to go all that way and have to leave that trail behind. have you ridden fort hill at thunder mountain? (charlemont, MA, usa) i'm wondering how similar the difficulty is between the two pro jump lines.
Such awesomeness!! Nice work Eric! Are you guys coming to Sedona in a few weeks? Would be so awesome to ride with you!
I would love to ride with eric he's an awesome guy!
i always say in motocross and freestyle skiing you get 2 or 3 roll ups at max after that if you dont hit it your done. once your scared or nervous thats when you make mistakes and freeze. when your confident you react and make corrections.
Ayyyyy! 🔥🔥🤟 I saw you guys in the line up! My friend fell over on the gate, and almost hit you guys 😂
Amazing video. FIrst time on your channel. I like the bike park, you captured it perfectly! Also, loving the honest and vulnerable take. No macho nonsense here!
I would love to see some more footage from riding in the snow and from Vanderhoof :)
another great video!
